In this paper, we consider the Monge optimal transport problem with distance cost. We prove that in some metric spaces, possibly with many branching geodesics, an optimal transport map exists if the first marginal is absolutely continuous. The result is applicable to normed spaces and Hilbert geometries.

In this note, we show that sub-Riemannian manifolds can contain branching normal minimizing geodesics. This phenomenon occurs if and only if a normal geodesic has a discontinuity in its rank at a non-zero time, which in particular for a strictly normal geodesic means that it contains a non-trivial abnormal subsegment. The simplest example is obtained by gluing the three-dimensional Martinet flat structure with the Heisenberg group in a suitable way. We then use this example to construct more general types of branching.
In this paper, we first evaluate topological distributions of the sets of all doubling spaces, all uniformly disconnected spaces, and all uniformly perfect spaces in the space of all isometry classes of compact metric spaces equipped with the Gromov--Hausdorff distance. We then construct branching geodesics of the Gromov--Hausdorff distance continuously parameterized by the Hilbert cube, passing through or avoiding sets of all spaces satisfying some of the three properties shown above, and passing through the sets of all infinite-dimensional spaces and the set of all Cantor metric spaces. Our …
We prove that on an essentially non-branching $\mathrm{MCP}(K,N)$ space, if a geodesic ball has a volume lower bound and satisfies some additional geometric conditions, then in a smaller geodesic ball (in a quantified sense) we have an estimate on the isoperimetric constants.
We prove that on an arbitrary metric measure space a countable collection of test plans is sufficient to recover all $\rm BV$ functions and their total variation measures. In the setting of non-branching ${\sf CD}(K,N)$ spaces (with finite reference measure), we can additionally require these test plans to be concentrated on geodesics.
In (Calc.Var.PDE 2018) Schultz generalized the work of Rajala and Sturm (Calc.Var.PDE 2014), proving that a weak non-branching condition holds in the more general setting of very strict CD spaces. Anyway, similar to what happens for the strong CD condition, the very strict CD condition seems not to be stable with respect to the measured Gromov Hausdorff convergence. In this article I prove a stability result for the very strict CD condition, assuming some metric requirements on the converging sequence and on the limit space. The proof relies on the notions of \textit{consistent geodesic flow} …
This paper contains two contributions in the study of optimal transport on metric graphs. Firstly, we prove a Benamou-Brenier formula for the Wasserstein distance, which establishes the equivalence of static and dynamical optimal transport. Secondly, in the spirit of Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto, we show that McKean-Vlasov equations can be formulated as gradient flow of the free energy in the Wasserstein space of probability measures. The proofs of these results are based on careful regularisation arguments to circumvent some of the difficulties arising in metric graphs, namely, branching of geode…
If $u : Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d \to {\rm X}$ is a harmonic map valued in a metric space ${\rm X}$ and ${\sf E} : {\rm X} \to \mathbb{R}$ is a convex function, in the sense that it generates an ${\rm EVI}_0$-gradient flow, we prove that the pullback ${\sf E} \circ u : Ω\to \mathbb{R}$ is subharmonic. This property was known in the smooth Riemannian manifold setting or with curvature restrictions on ${\rm X}$, while we prove it here in full generality. In addition, we establish generalized maximum principles, in the sense that the $L^q$ norm of ${\sf E} \circ u$ on $\partial Ω$ controls the $L^p$ …
The Lott-Sturm-Villani Curvature-Dimension condition provides a synthetic notion for a metric-measure space to have Ricci-curvature bounded from below and dimension bounded from above. We prove that it is enough to verify this condition locally: an essentially non-branching metric-measure space $(X,{\mathsf d},{\mathfrak m})$ (so that $(\text{supp} \; {\mathfrak m},{\mathsf d})$ is a length-space and ${\mathfrak m}(X) < \infty$) verifying the local Curvature-Dimension condition $\mathsf{CD}_{loc}(K,N)$ with parameters $K \in \mathbb{R}$ and $N \in (1,\infty)$, also verifies the global Curvatur…
