We consider three classes of linear differential equations on distribution functions, with a fractional order $α\in [0,1].$ The integer case $α=1$ corresponds to the three classical extreme families. In general, we show that there is a unique distribution function solving these equations, whose underlying random variable is expressed in terms of an exponential random variable and an integral transform of an independent $α-$stable subordinator. From the analytical viewpoint, this law is in one-to-one correspondence with a Kilbas-Saigo function for the Weibull and Fréchet cases, and with a Le Roy function for the Gumbel case. By the stochastic representation, we can derive several analytical properties for the latter special functions, extending known features of the classical Mittag-Leffler function, and dealing with monotonicity, complete monotonicity, infinite divisibility, asymptotic behaviour at infinity, uniform hyperbolic bounds.
Let $\{B_β(x), x \in \mathbb{S}^N\}$ be a fractional Brownian motion on the $N$-dimensional unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^N$ with Hurst index $β$. We study the excursion probability $\mathbb{P}\{\sup_{x\in T} B_β(x) > u \}$ and obtain the asymptotics as $u\to \infty$, where $T$ can be the entire sphere $\mathbb{S}^N$ or a geodesic disc on $\mathbb{S}^N$.
Anomalous subdiffusion characterizes transport in diverse physical systems and is especially prevalent inside biological cells. In cell biology, the prevailing model for chemical activation rates has recently changed from the first passage time (FPT) of a single searcher to the FPT of the fastest searcher out of many searchers to reach a target, which is called an extreme statistic or extreme FPT. In this paper, we investigate extreme statistics of searchers which move by anomalous subdiffusion. We model subdiffusion by a fractional Fokker-Planck equation involving the Riemann-Liouville fracti…
In this paper, by using the exact tail asymptotics derived by Debicki, Hashorva and Ji (Ann. Probab. 2014), we proved the Gumbel limit theorem for the maximum of a class of non-homogeneous Gaussian random fields. By using the obtained results, we also derived the Gumbel laws for Shepp statistics of fractional Brownian motion and Gaussian integrated process as well as the Gumbel law for Storage process with fractional Brownian motion as input.
Limit theorems for strongly and intermediately supercritical branching processes in Markovian environment with linear fractional offspring distributions
In this paper we study finite velocity planar random motions with an infinite number of possible directions, where the number of changes of direction is randomized by means of an inhomogeneous fractional Poisson distribution. We first discuss the properties of the distributions of the generalized fractional inhomogeneous Poisson process. Then we show that the explicit probability law of the planar random motions where the number of changes of direction is governed by this fractional distribution can be obtained in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions. We also consider planar random motions with r…
We investigate the limit behavior of supercritical multitype branching processes in random environments with linear fractional offspring distributions and show that there exists a phase transition in the behavior of local probabilites of the process affected by strongly and intermediately supercritical regimes. Some conditional limit theorems can also be obtained from the representation of generating functions.
It is shown that some convolution semigroups of infinitely divisible measures are invariant under the random integral mappings $I^{h,r}_{(a,b]}$ defined in $(\star)$ below. The converse implication is specified for the semigroups of generalized s-selfdecomposable and selfdecomposable distributions. Some application are given to the moving average fractional Lévy process (MAFLP).
We investigate the distribution properties of the fractional Lévy motion. We consider separately the cases $0<H<1/2$ (short memory) and $1/2<H<1$ (long memory), where $H$ is the Hurst parameter, and present the asymptotic behaviour of the distribution density of the process. Some examples are provided, in which it is shown that the behaviour of the density in the cases $0<H<1/2$ and $1/2<H<1$ is completely different.
We propose a discrete-time, finite-state stationary process that can possess long-range dependence. Among the interesting features of this process is that each state can have different long-term dependency, i.e., the indicator sequence can have different Hurst index for different states. Also, inter-arrival time for each state follows heavy tail distribution, with different states showing different tail behavior. A possible application of this process is to model over-dispersed multinomial distribution. In particular, we define fractional multinomial distribution from our model.
We study fractional smoothness of measures on $\mathbb{R}^k$, that are images of a Gaussian measure under mappings from Gaussian Sobolev classes. As a consequence we obtain Nikolskii--Besov fractional regularity of these distributions under some weak nondegeneracy assumption.
This paper is devoted to a fractional generalization of the Dirichlet distribution. The form of the multivariate distribution is derived assuming that the $n$ partitions of the interval $[0,W_n]$ are independent and identically distributed random variables following the generalized Mittag-Leffler distribution. The expected value and variance of the one-dimensional marginal are derived as well as the form of its probability density function. A related generalized Dirichlet distribution is studied that provides a reasonable approximation for some values of the parameters. The relation between th…
We prove that the distribution density of any non-constant polynomial $f(ξ_1,ξ_2,\ldots)$ of degree $d$ in independent standard Gaussian random variables $ξ$ (possibly, in infinitely many variables) always belongs to the Nikol'skii--Besov space $B^{1/d}(\mathbb{R}^1)$ of fractional order $1/d$ (and this order is best possible), and an analogous result holds for polynomial mappings with values in $\mathbb{R}^k$. Our second main result is an upper bound on the total variation distance between two probability measures on $\mathbb{R}^k$ via the Kantorovich distance between them and a suitable Niko…
We construct a family $I_{n_{\eps}}(f)_{t}$ of continuous stochastic processes that converges in the sense of finite dimensional distributions to a multiple Wiener-Itô integral $I_{n}^{H}(f1^{\otimes n}_{[0,t]})$ with respect to the fractional Brownian motion. We assume that $H>{1/2}$ and we prove our approximation result for the integrands $f$ in a rather general class.
Several convenient methods for calculation of fractional absolute moments are given with application to heavy tailed distributions. We use techniques of fractional differentiation to obtain formulae for $E[|X-μ|^γ]$ with $1<γ<2$ and $μ\in\mathbb{R}$. The main focus is on heavy tailed distributions, several examples are given with analytical expressions of fractional absolute moments. As applications, we calculate the fractional moment errors for both prediction and parameter estimation problems.
In this work, we will show the existence, uniqueness, and weak differentiability of the solution to semi-linear mean-field stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion. We prove an extension of the Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula and show some applications in the sensitivity analysis of variance swaps and also the price of derivatives with respect to the initial point.
In the present paper, we characterize the behavior of supercritical branching processes in random environment with linear fractional offspring distributions, conditioned on having small, but positive values at some large generation. As it has been noticed in previous works, there is a phase transition in the behavior of the process. Here, we examine the strongly and intermediately supercritical regimes The main result is a conditional limit theorem for the rescaled associated random walk in the intermediately case.
A definition for elliptical tempered stable distribution, based on the characteristic function, have been explained which involve a unique spectral measure. This definition provides a framework for creating a connection between infinite divisible distribution, and particularly elliptical tempered stable distribution, with fractional calculus. Finally, some analytical approximations for the probability density function of tempered infinite divisible distribution, which elliptical tempered stable distributions are a subclass of them, are considered.
We consider Riemann sum approximations of stochastic integrals with respect to the fractional Browian motion of index $H\geq \frac12$. We show the convergence of these schemes at first and second order. The processes obtained in the limit in the second case are stochastic integrals with respect to the Rosenblatt process if $H >\frac34$ and the standard Brownian motion otherwise. These results are obtained under the assumption that the integrand is a `controlled' process. We provide many examples of such processes, in particular fractional semimartingales and multiple Wiener-Itô integrals
In this paper we study a class of distribution dependent stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter H\in(1/2,1). We prove the well-posedness of this type equations, and then establish a general result on the Bismut formula for the Lions derivative by using Malliavin calculus. As applications, we provide the Bismut formulas of this kind for both non-degenerate and degenerate cases, and obtain the estimates of the Lions derivative and the total variation distance between the laws of two solutions.
We obtain the explicit expressions for the state probabilities of various state dependent fractional point processes recently introduced and studied by Garra et al. (2015). The inversion of the Laplace transforms of the state probabilities of such processes is rather cumbersome and involved. We employ the Adomian decomposition method to solve the difference differential equations governing the state probabilities of these state dependent processes. The distributions of some convolutions of the Mittag-Leffler random variables are derived as special cases of the obtained results.
In this paper, we study small-time asymptotic behaviors for a class of distribution dependent stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter $H\in(1/2,1)$ and magnitude $\ep^H$. By building up a variational framework and two weak convergence criteria in the factional Brownian motion setting, we establish the large and moderate deviation principles for this type equations. Besides, we also obtain the central limit theorem, in which the limit process solves a linear equation involving the Lions derivative of the drift coefficient.
Motivated by applications to insurance mathematics, we prove some heavy-traffic limit theorems for processes which encompass the fractionally differentiated random walk as well as some FARIMA processes, when the innovations are in the domain of attraction of a nonGaussian stable distribution.

In this article we give a general criterion for some dependent Gaussian models to belong to maximal domain of attraction of Gumbel, following an application of the Stein-Chen method studied in Arratia et al(1989). We also show the convergence of the associated point process. As an application, we show the conditions are satisfied by some of the well-known supercritical Gaussian interface models, namely, membrane model, massive and massless discrete Gaussian free field, fractional Gaussian free field.
In order to develop certain fractional probabilistic analogues of Taylor's theorem and mean value theorem, we introduce the nth-order fractional equilibrium distribution in terms of the Weyl fractional integral and investigate its main properties. Specifically, we show a characterization result by which the nth-order fractional equilibrium distribution is identical to the starting distribution if and only if it is exponential. The nth-order fractional equilibrium density is then used to prove a fractional probabilistic Taylor's theorem based on derivatives of Riemann-Liouville type. A fraction…
We study distribution dependent stochastic differential equations with irregular, possibly distributional drift, driven by an additive fractional Brownian motion of Hurst parameter $H\in (0,1)$. We establish strong well-posedness under a variety of assumptions on the drift; these include the choice $$B(\cdot,μ) = f\astμ(\cdot) + g(\cdot),\quad f,g\in B^α_{\infty,\infty}, \quad α>1-1/2H,$$ thus extending the results by Catellier and Gubinelli [9] to the distribution dependent case. The proofs rely on some novel stability estimates for singular SDEs driven by fractional Brownian motion and the u…
We study a linear-fractional Bienaymé-Galton-Watson process with a general type space. The corresponding tree contour process is described by an alternating random walk with the downward jumps having a geometric distribution. This leads to the linear-fractional distribution formula for an arbitrary observation time, which allows us to establish transparent limit theorems for the subcritical, critical and supercritical cases. Our results extend recent findings for the linear-fractional branching processes with countably many types.
This paper is concerned with the fractionalized diffusion equations governing the law of the fractional Brownian motion $B_H(t)$. We obtain solutions of these equations which are probability laws extending that of $B_H(t)$. Our analysis is based on McBride fractional operators generalizing the hyper-Bessel operators $L$ and converting their fractional power $L^α$ into Erdélyi--Kober fractional integrals. We study also probabilistic properties of the r.v.'s whose distributions satisfy space-time fractional equations involving Caputo and Riesz fractional derivatives. Some results emerging from t…
We obtain a Berry-Esseen type bound for the distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the drift parameter for fractional Ornstein-uhlenbeck type process driven by sub-fractional Brownian motion.
In this paper we introduce the space-fractional Poisson process whose state probabilities $p_k^α(t)$, $t>0$, $α\in (0,1]$, are governed by the equations $(\mathrm d/\mathrm dt)p_k(t) = -λ^α(1-B)p_k^α(t)$, where $(1-B)^α$ is the fractional difference operator found in the study of time series analysis. We explicitly obtain the distributions $p_k^α(t)$, the probability generating functions $G_α(u,t)$, which are also expressed as distributions of the minimum of i.i.d.\ uniform random variables. The comparison with the time-fractional Poisson process is investigated and finally, we arrive at the m…
This paper defines a new class of fractional differential operators alongside a family of random variables whose density functions solve fractional differential equations equipped with these operators. These equations can be further used to construct fractional integro-differential equations for the ruin probabilities in collective renewal risk models, with inter-arrival time distributions from the aforementioned family. Gamma-time risk models and fractional Poisson risk models are two specific cases among them, whose ruin probabilities have explicit solutions, when claim sizes distributions e…
Let $\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, 1\le i\le n$ be independent copies of a random process $\{X(t), t\ge0\}$. For a given positive constant $u$, define the set of $r$th conjunctions $C_r(u):=\{t\in[0,1]: X_{r:n}(t)>u\}$ with $ X_{r:n}$ the $r$th largest order statistics of $X_i, 1\le i\le n$. In numerical applications such as brain mapping and digital communication systems, of interest is the approximation of $p_r(u)=\mathbb P\{C_r(u)\neqϕ\}$. Instead of stationary processes dealt with by Dȩbicki et al. (2014), we consider in this paper $X$ a self-similar $\mathbb R$-valued process with $P$-continuous samp…
Explicit evaluations of matrix-variate gamma and beta integrals in the complex domain by using conventional procedures is extremely difficult. Such an evaluation will reveal the structure of these matrix-variate integrals. In this article, explicit evaluations of matrix-variate gamma and beta integrals in the complex domain for the order of the matrix p = 1; 2 are given. Then fractional integral operators of the Kober type are given for some specific cases of the arbitrary function. A formal definition of fractional integrals in the complex matrix-variate case was given by the author earlier a…
Let $X(s,t), (s,t)\in E$, with $E\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ a compact set, be a centered two dimensional Gaussian random field with continuous trajectories and variance function $σ(s,t)$. Denote by $\mathcal{L}=\{(s,t): σ(s,t)=\max_{(s',t')\in E}σ(s',t')\}$. In this contribution, we derive the exact asymptotics of $\mathbb{P}\left(\sup_{(s,t)\in E}X(s,t)>u\right)$, as $u\to\infty$, under condition that $\mathcal{L}$ is a smooth curve. We illustrate our findings by an application concerned with extremes of the aggregation of two independent fractional Brownian motions.
We present some correlated fractional counting processes on a finite time interval. This will be done by considering a slight generalization of the processes in Borges et al. (2012). The main case concerns a class of space-time fractional Poisson processes and, when the correlation parameter is equal to zero, the univariate distributions coincide with the ones of the space-time fractional Poisson process in Orsingher and Polito (2012). On the other hand, when we consider the time fractional Poisson process, the multivariate finite dimensional distributions are different from the ones presented…
We consider a sequence of fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, that are defined as solutions of a family of stochastic Volterra equations with kernel given by the Riesz derivative kernel, and leading coefficients given by a sequence of independent Gamma random variables. We construct a new process by taking the empirical mean of this sequence. In our framework, the processes involved are not Markovian, hence the analysis of their asymptotic behaviour requires some ad hoc construction. In our main result, we prove the almost sure convergence in the space of trajectories of the empirical mea…
We show that the distribution of the square of the supremum of reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time a, with Hurst parameter-H greater than 1/2, is related to the distribution of its hitting time to level $1,$ using the self similarity property of fractional Brownian motion. It is also proven that second moment of supremum of reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time $a$ is bounded above by $a^{2H}.$ Similar relations are obtained for the supremum of fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/2, and its hitting time to level $1.$ What is more, we obtain an u…
We extend the Kulkarni class of multivariate phase--type distributions in a natural time--fractional way to construct a new class of multivariate distributions with heavy-tailed Mittag-Leffler(ML)-distributed marginals. The approach relies on assigning rewards to a non--Mar\-ko\-vi\-an jump process with ML sojourn times. This new class complements an earlier multivariate ML construction \cite{multiml} and in contrast to the former also allows for tail dependence. We derive properties and characterizations of this class, and work out some special cases that lead to explicit density representati…
We introduce a fractional generalization of the Erlang Queues $M/E_k/1$. Such process is obtained through a time-change via inverse stable subordinator of the classical queue process. We first exploit the (fractional) Kolmogorov forward equation for such process, then we use such equation to obtain an interpretation of this process in the queuing theory context. Then we also exploit the transient state probabilities and some features of this fractional queue model, such as the mean queue length, the distribution of the busy periods and some conditional distributions of the waiting times. Final…
In this paper we study a 2-type linear-fractional branching process in varying environment with asymptotically constant mean matrices. Let $ν$ be the extinction time and for $k\ge1$ let $M_k$ be the mean matrix of offspring distribution of individuals of the $(k-1)$-th generation. Under certain conditions, we show that $P(ν=n)$ and $P(ν>n)$ are asymptotically equivalent to some functions of products of spectral radii of the mean matrices. This paper complements a former result [arXiv: 2007.07840] which requires in addition a condition $\forall k\ge1,\rm{det}(M_k)<-\varepsilon$ for some $\varep…
A multivariate fractional Poisson process was recently defined in Beghin and Macci (2016) by considering a common independent random time change for a finite dimensional vector of independent (non-fractional) Poisson processes; moreover it was proved that, for each fixed $t\geq 0$, it has a suitable multinomial conditional distribution of the components given their sum. In this paper we consider another multivariate process $\{\underline{M}^ν(t)=(M_1^ν(t),\ldots,M_m^ν(t)):t\geq 0\}$ with the same conditional distributions of the components given their sums, and different marginal distributions…
In this paper, we demonstrate through the use of matrix calculus a transparent analysis of fractional inhomogeneous Markov models for life insurance where transition matrices commute. The resulting formulae are intuitive matrix generalizations of their single-state counterparts, and the absorption times are matrix versions of well-known scalar distributions. A further advantage of this approach is that it allows extending the analysis to the non-Markovian case where sojourns are Mittag-Leffler distributed, and where the absorption times are fractional phase-type distributed. Considering determ…
We consider the quasi-stationary distribution of the classical Shiryaev diffusion restricted to the interval $[0,A]$ with absorption at a fixed $A>0$. We derive analytically a closed-form formula for the distribution's fractional moment of an {\em arbitrary} given order $s\in\mathbb{R}$; the formula is consistent with that previously found by Polunchenko and Pepelyshev (2018) for the case of $s\in\mathbb{N}$. We also show by virtue of the formula that, if $s<1$, then the $s$-th fractional moment of the quasi-stationary distribution becomes that of the exponential distribution (with mean $1/2$)…
