We consider aggregative games with affine coupling constraints, where agents have partial information on the aggregate value and can only communicate with neighbouring agents. We propose a single-layer distributed algorithm that reaches a variational generalized Nash equilibrium, under constant step sizes. The algorithm works on a single timescale, i.e., does not require multiple communication rounds between agents before updating their action. The convergence proof leverages an invariance property of the aggregate estimates and relies on a forward-backward splitting for two preconditioned operators and their restricted (strong) monotonicity properties on the consensus subspace.
Distributed Nash equilibrium seeking of aggregative games is investigated and a continuous-time algorithm is proposed. The algorithm is designed by virtue of projected gradient play dynamics and distributed average tracking dynamics, and is applicable to games with constrained strategy sets and weight-balanced communication graphs. We obtain an exponential convergence of the proposed algorithm to the Nash equilibrium. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of our methods.
We design the first fully-distributed algorithm for generalized Nash equilibrium seeking in aggregative games on a time-varying communication network, under partial-decision information, i.e., the agents have no direct access to the aggregate decision. The algorithm is derived by integrating dynamic tracking into a projected pseudo-gradient algorithm. The convergence analysis relies on the framework of monotone operator splitting and the Krasnosel'skii-Mann fixed-point iteration with errors.
We address the generalized Nash equilibrium seeking problem for a population of agents playing aggregative games with affine coupling constraints. We focus on semi-decentralized communication architectures, where there is a central coordinator able to gather and broadcast signals of aggregative nature to the agents. By exploiting the framework of monotone operator theory and operator splitting, we first critically review the most relevant available algorithms and then design two novel schemes: (i) a single-layer, fixed-step algorithm with convergence guarantee for general (non cocoercive, non-…
In this paper, we study a distributed continuous-time design for aggregative games with coupled constraints in order to seek the generalized Nash equilibrium by a group of agents via simple local information exchange. To solve the problem, we propose a distributed algorithm based on projected dynamics and non-smooth tracking dynamics, even for the case when the interaction topology of the multi-agent network is time-varying. Moreover, we prove the convergence of the non-smooth algorithm for the distributed game by taking advantage of its special structure and also combining the techniques of t…
This paper considers the privacy-preserving Nash equilibrium seeking strategy design for a class of networked aggregative games, in which the players' objective functions are considered to be sensitive information to be protected. In particular, we consider that the networked game is free of central node and the aggregate information is not directly available to the players. As there is no central authority to provide the aggregate information required by each player to update their actions, a dynamic average consensus protocol is employed to estimate it. To protect the players' privacy, we pe…
We consider a generalized Nash equilibrium problem (GNEP) for a network of players. Each player tries to minimize a local objective function subject to some resource constraints where both the objective functions and the resource constraints depend on other players' decisions. By conducting equivalent transformations on the local optimization problems and introducing network Lagrangian, we recast the GNEP into an operator zero-finding problem. An algorithm is proposed based on the Douglas-Rachford method to distributedly find a solution. The proposed algorithm requires milder conditions compar…
This paper considers the problem of Nash equilibrium (NE) seeking in aggregative games, where the payoff function of each player depends on an aggregate of all players' actions. We present a distributed continuous time algorithm such that the actions of the players converge to NE by communicating to each other through a connected network. A major concern in communicative schemes among strategic agents is that their private information may be revealed to other agents or to a curious third party who can eavesdrop the communications. We address this concern for the presented algorithm and show th…
This work studies Nash equilibrium seeking for a class of stochastic aggregative games, where each player has an expectation-valued objective function depending on its local strategy and the aggregate of all players' strategies. We propose a distributed algorithm with operator extrapolation, in which each player maintains an estimate of this aggregate by exchanging this information with its neighbors over a time-varying network, and updates its decision through the mirror descent method. An operator extrapolation at the search direction is applied such that the two step historical gradient sam…

This paper aims to design a distributed coordination algorithm for solving a multi-agent decision problem with a hierarchical structure. The primary goal is to search the Nash equilibrium of a noncooperative game such that each player has no incentive to deviate from the equilibrium under its private objective. Meanwhile, the agents can coordinate to optimize the social cost within the set of Nash equilibria of the underlying game. Such an optimal Nash equilibrium problem can be modeled as a distributed optimization problem with variational inequality constraints. We consider the scenario wher…
We propose a two-layer, semi-decentralized algorithm to compute a local solution to the Stackelberg equilibrium problem in aggregative games with coupling constraints. Specifically, we focus on a single-leader, multiple-follower problem, and after equivalently recasting the Stackelberg game as a mathematical program with complementarity constraints (MPCC), we iteratively convexify a regularized version of the MPCC as inner problem, whose solution generates a sequence of feasible descent directions for the original MPCC. Thus, by pursuing a descent direction at every outer iteration, we establi…
In this paper, a distributed non-model based seeking algorithm which combines the extremum seeking control (ESC) jointly with learning algorithms is proposed to seek a generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) for a class of noncooperative games with coupled equality constraint. The strategy of each agent is restricted by both the coupled inter-agent constraint and local inequality constraints. Thanks to the ESC, it is unnecessary to know the specific expressions of agents' cost functions and local constraints and to know the strategies of other agents for the implementation of the proposed GNE seeki…
In this paper, we investigate distributed generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) computation of monotone games with affine coupling constraints. Each player can only utilize its local objective function, local feasible set and a local block of the coupling constraint, and can only communicate with its neighbours. We assume the game has monotone pseudo-subdifferential without Lipschitz continuity restrictions. We design novel center-free distributed GNE seeking algorithms for equality and inequality affine coupling constraints, respectively. A proximal alternating direction method of multipliers(AD…
We consider a stochastic generalized Nash equilibrium problem (GNEP) with expected-value cost functions. Inspired by Yi and Pavel (Automatica, 2019), we propose a distributed GNE seeking algorithm by exploiting the forward-backward operator splitting and a suitable preconditioning matrix. Specifically, we apply this method to the stochastic GNEP, where, at each iteration, the expected value of the pseudo-gradient is approximated via a number of random samples. Our main contribution is to show almost sure convergence of our proposed algorithm if the sample size grows large enough.
We consider the problem of computing a mixed-strategy generalized Nash equilibrium (MS-GNE) for a class of games where each agent has both continuous and integer decision variables. Specifically, we propose a novel Bregman forward-reflected-backward splitting and design distributed algorithms that exploit the problem structure. Technically, we prove convergence to a variational MS-GNE under mere monotonicity and Lipschitz continuity assumptions, which are typical of continuous GNE problems. Finally, we show the performance of our algorithms via numerical experiments.
In this paper, we aim to design a distributed approximate algorithm for seeking Nash equilibria of an aggregative game. Due to the local set constraints of each player, projectionbased algorithms have been widely employed for solving such problems actually. Since it may be quite hard to get the exact projection in practice, we utilize inscribed polyhedrons to approximate local set constraints, which yields a related approximate game model. We first prove that the Nash equilibrium of the approximate game is the $ε$-Nash equilibrium of the original game, and then propose a distributed algorithm …
In this work, we investigate the distributed generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) seeking problems for $N$-coalition games with inequality constraints. First, we study the scenario where each agent in a coalition has full information of all the constraints. A finite-time average consensus-based approach is proposed by using full decision information. It is proven that the algorithm converges to a GNE (specifically, a variational equilibrium) of the game. Then, based on the finite-time consensus tracking, we propose a distributed algorithm by using partial decision information only, where only ne…
Decentralized online learning for seeking generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) of noncooperative games in dynamic environments is studied in this paper. Each player aims at selfishly minimizing its own time-varying cost function subject to time-varying coupled constraints and local feasible set constraints. Only local cost functions and local constraints are available to individual players, who can receive their neighbors' information through a fixed and connected graph. In addition, players have no prior knowledge of cost functions and local constraint functions in the future time. In this sett…
In this paper, we present three distributed algorithms to solve a class of generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) seeking problems in strongly monotone games. The first one (SD-GENO) is based on synchronous updates of the agents, while the second and the third (AD-GEED and AD-GENO) represent asynchronous solutions that are robust to communication delays. AD-GENO can be seen as a refinement of AD-GEED, since it only requires node auxiliary variables, enhancing the scalability of the algorithm. Our main contribution is to prove converge to a variational GNE of the game via an operator-theoretic appr…
In this paper, we solve the problem of learning a generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) in merely monotone games. First, we propose a novel continuous semi-decentralized solution algorithm without projections that uses first-order information to compute a GNE with a central coordinator. As the second main contribution, we design a gain adaptation scheme for the previous algorithm in order to alleviate the problem of improper scaling of the cost functions versus the constraints. Third, we propose a data-driven variant of the former algorithm, where each agent estimates their individual pseudogradi…
We consider the stochastic generalized Nash equilibrium problem (SGNEP) with expected-value cost functions. Inspired by Yi and Pavel (Automatica, 2019), we propose a distributed GNE seeking algorithm based on the preconditioned forward-backward operator splitting for SGNEP, where, at each iteration, the expected value of the pseudogradient is approximated via a number of random samples. As main contribution, we show almost sure convergence of our proposed algorithm if the pseudogradient mapping is restricted (monotone and) cocoercive. For non-generalized SNEPs, we show almost sure convergence …
We consider for the first time a stochastic generalized Nash equilibrium problem, i.e., with expected-value cost functions and joint feasibility constraints, under partial-decision information, meaning that the agents communicate only with some trusted neighbours. We propose several distributed algorithms for network games and aggregative games that we show being special instances of a preconditioned forward-backward splitting method. We prove that the algorithms converge to a generalized Nash equilibrium when the forward operator is restricted cocoercive by using the stochastic approximation …
In this paper, we consider the problem of learning a generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) in strongly monotone games. First, we propose a novel continuous-time solution algorithm that uses regular projections and first-order information. As second main contribution, we design a data-driven variant of the former algorithm where each agent estimates their individual pseudo-gradient via zero-order information, namely, measurements of their individual cost function values, as typical of extremum seeking control. Third, we generalize our setup and results for multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynami…
A fundamental open problem in monotone game theory is the computation of a specific generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) among all the available ones, e.g. the optimal equilibrium with respect to a system-level objective. The existing GNE seeking algorithms have in fact convergence guarantees toward an arbitrary, possibly inefficient, equilibrium. In this paper, we solve this open problem by leveraging results from fixed-point selection theory and in turn derive distributed algorithms for the computation of an optimal GNE in monotone games. We then extend the technical results to the time-varyin…
In this paper, we focus on the stochastic generalized Nash equilibrium problem (SGNEP) which is an important and widely-used model in many different fields. In this model, subject to certain global resource constraints, a set of self-interested players aim to optimize their local objectives that depend on their own decisions and the decisions of others and are influenced by some random factors. We propose a distributed stochastic generalized Nash equilibrium seeking algorithm in a partial-decision information setting based on the Douglas-Rachford operator splitting scheme, which relaxes assump…
We consider strongly monotone games with convex separable coupling constraints, played by dynamical agents, in a partial-decision information scenario. We start by designing continuous-time fully distributed feedback controllers, based on consensus and primal-dual gradient dynamics, to seek a generalized Nash equilibrium in networks of single-integrator agents. Our first solution adopts a fixed gain, whose choice requires the knowledge of some global parameters of the game. To relax this requirement, we conceive a controller that can be tuned in a completely decentralized fashion, thanks to th…
