In this work we discuss the failure of the principle of truth functionality in the quantum formalism. By exploiting this failure, we import the formalism of N-matrix theory and non-deterministic semantics to the foundations of quantum mechanics. This is done by describing quantum states as particular valuations associated to infinite non-deterministic truth tables. This allows us to introduce a natural interpretation of quantum states in terms of a non-deterministic semantics. We also provide a similar construction for arbitrary probabilistic theories based in orthomodular lattices, allowing to study post-quantum models using logical techniques.
We investigate the effect of deterministic analog control errors in the time-dependent Hamiltonian on isolated quantum dynamics. Deterministic analog control errors are formulated as time-dependent operators in the Schrodinger equation. We give an upper bound on the distance between two states in time evolution with and without deterministic analog control errors. As a result, we prove that, if the strength of deterministic analog control errors is less than the inverse of computational time, the final state in quantum dynamics without deterministic analog control errors can be obtained throug…
We propose two deterministic secure quantum communication (DSQC) protocols employing three-qubit GHZ-like states and five-qubit Brown states as quantum channels for secure transmission of information in units of two bits and three bits using multipartite teleportation schemes developed here. In these schemes, the sender's capability in selecting quantum channels and the measuring bases leads to improved qubit efficiency of the protocols.
We consider how recent experimental progress on deterministic solid state spin-photon interfaces enable the construction of a number of key elements of quantum networks. After reviewing some of the recent experimental achievements, we discuss their integration into Bell state analyzers, quantum non-demolition detection, and photonic cluster state generation. Finally, we outline how these elements can be used for long-distance entanglement generation and quantum key distribution in a quantum network.
Quantum technologies based on the particle nature of a photon has been progressed over the last several decades, where the fundamental quantum features of entanglement have been tested by Hong-Ou-Mandel-type anticorrelation and Bell-type nonlocal correlation. Recently, mutually exclusive quantum features based on the wave nature of a photon have been investigated to understand the fundamental physics of mysterious quantum correlation, resulting in deterministic and macroscopic quantum technologies. Here, we study the quantum natures of paired photons acting on a beam splitter, where mutual coh…
We propose a non-deterministic CNOT gate based on a quantum cloner, a quantum switch based on all optical routing of single photon by single photon, a quantum-dot spin in a double-sided optical microcavity with two photonic qubits, delay lines and other linear optical photonic devices. Our CNOT provides a fidelity of 78% with directly useful outputs for a quantum computing circuit and requires no ancillary qubits or electron spin measurements.
We describe a scheme of deterministic single-photon subtraction in a solid-state system consisting of a charged quantum dot coupled to a bimodal photonic-crystal cavity with a moderate magnetic field applied in a Voigt configuration. We numerically simulate injection of optical pulses into one of the modes of the bimodal cavity and show that the system deterministically transfers one photon into the second cavity mode for input pulses in the form of both Fock states and coherent states.
We address quantum state engineering of single- and two-mode states by means of non-deterministic noiseless linear amplifiers (NLAs) acting on Gaussian states. In particular, we show that NLAs provide an effective scheme to generate highly non-Gaussian and non-classical states. Additionally, we show that the amplification of a two-mode squeezed vacuum state (twin-beam) may highly increase entanglement.
We consider the scenario of deterministic classical information transmission between multiple senders and a single receiver, when they a priori share a multipartite quantum state -- an attempt towards building a deterministic dense coding network. Specifically, we prove that in the case of two or three senders and a single receiver, generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (gGHZ) states are not beneficial for sending classical information deterministically beyond the classical limit, except when the shared state is the GHZ state itself. On the other hand, three- and four-qubit generalized W (gW…
It is known that for some languages quantum finite automata are more efficient than classical counterparts. Particularly, a QFA recognizing the language $MOD_p$ has an exponential advantage over the classical finite automata. However, the construction of such QFA is probabilistic. In the current work, we propose a deterministic construction of the QFA for the language $MOD_p$. We construct a QFA for a promise problem $Palindrome_s$ and implement this QFA on the IBMQ simulator using qiskit library tools.
Any quantum information system operates with entanglement as a resource, which should be deterministically generated by a joint measurement known as complete Bell state measurement (BSM). The determinism arises from a quantum nondemolition measurement of two coupled qubits with the help of readout ancilla, which inevitably requires extra physical qubits. We here demonstrate a deterministic and complete BSM with only a nitrogen atom in a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond as a quantum memory without reliance on any carbon isotopes by exploiting electron nitrogen (14N) double qutrits at a z…
Why microscopic objects exhibit wave properties (are delocalized), but macroscopic do not (are localized)? Traditional quantum mechanics attributes wave properties to all objects. When complemented with a deterministic collapse model (Quantum Stud.: Math. Found. 3, 279 (2016)) quantum mechanics can dissolve the discrepancy. Collapse in this model means contraction and occurs when the object gets in touch with other objects and satisfies a certain criterion. One single collapse usually does not suffice for localization. But the object rapidly gets in touch with other objects in a short time, le…
We report a scheme for deterministic preparation of non-Gaussian quantum states on-demand. In contrast to probabilistic approaches for preparation of non-Gaussian quantum states, conditioned on photon subtraction or addition, we present a scheme that can prepare non-Gaussian quantum states on-demand, by applying a unitary transformation which removes the Gaussianity of measurement statistics of field quadratures, namely a quadrature rotation via transmission through a beam-splitter, using a two-mode photon-number squeezed state as input. The resulting state exhibits a quantum vortex structure …
We investigate quantum information masking for arbitrary dimensional quantum states. We show that mutually orthogonal quantum states can always be served for deterministic masking of quantum information. We further construct a probabilistic masking machine for linearly independent states. It is shown that a set of d dimensional states, $\{ |a_1 \rangle_A, |t a_2 \rangle_A, \dots, |a_n \rangle_A \}$, $n \leq d$, can be probabilistically masked by a general unitary-reduction operation if they are linearly independent. The maximal successful probability of probabilistic masking is analyzed and de…
