We consider time-dependent dynamical systems arising as sequential compositions of self-maps of a probability space. We establish conditions under which the Birkhoff sums for multivariate observations, given a centering and a general normalizing sequence $b(N)$ of invertible square matrices, are approximated by a normal distribution with respect to a metric of regular test functions. Depending on the metric and the normalizing sequence $b(N)$, the conditions imply that the error in the approximation decays either at the rate $O(N^{-1/2})$ or the rate $O(N^{-1/2} \log N)$, under the additional assumption that $\Vert b(N)^{-1} \Vert \lesssim N^{-1/2}$. The error comes with a multiplicative constant whose exact value can be computed directly from the conditions. The proof is based on an observation due to Sunklodas regarding Stein's method of normal approximation. We give applications to one-dimensional random piecewise expanding maps and to sequential, random, and quasistatic intermittent systems.
Modelling stochastic systems has many important applications. Normal form coordinate transforms are a powerful way to untangle interesting long term macroscale dynamics from detailed microscale dynamics. We explore such coordinate transforms of stochastic differential systems when the dynamics has both slow modes and quickly decaying modes. The thrust is to derive normal forms useful for macroscopic modelling of complex stochastic microscopic systems. Thus we not only must reduce the dimensionality of the dynamics, but also endeavour to separate all slow processes from all fast time processes,…
Class of Newtonian dynamical systems admitting normal blow-up of points in Riemannian manifolds is considered. Geometric interpretation for weak normality condition, which arose earlier in the theory of dynamical systems admitting the normal shift of hypersurfaces, is found.
In the present paper we want to focus on this dichotomy of the non-normal numbers -- on the one hand they are a set of measure zero and on the other hand they are residual -- for dynamical system fulfilling the specification property. These dynamical systems are motivated by $β$-expansions. We consider the limiting frequencies of digits in the words of the languagse arising from these dynamical systems, and show that not only a typical $x$ in the sense of Baire is non-normal, but also its Cesàro variants diverge.
In this paper, we consider non-normal numbers occurring in dynamical systems fulfilling the specification property. It has been shown that in this case the set of non-normal numbers has measure zero. In the present papers we show that a smaller set, namely the set of particularly non-normal numbers, has full Hausdorff dimension. A particularly non-normal number is a number $x$ such that there exist two digits, one whose limiting frequency in $x$ exists and another one whose limiting frequency in $x$ does not exist.
Formula for the force field of Newtonian dynamical systems admitting the normal shift of hypersurfaces in Riemannian manifolds is considered. Problem of globalization for geometric structures associated with this formula is studied.
We show how to use extended word series in the reduction of continuous and discrete dynamical systems to normal form and in the computation of formal invariants of motion in Hamiltonian systems. The manipulations required involve complex numbers rather than vector fields or diffeomorphisms. More precisely we construct a group G and a Lie algebra g in such a way that the elements of G and g are families of complex numbers; the operations to be performed involve the multiplication F in G and the bracket of g and result in universal coefficients that are then applied to write the normal form or t…
Given an ergodic dynamical system $(X,T,μ)$, and $U\subset X$ measurable with $μ(U)>0$, let $μ(U)τ_U(x)$ denote the normalized hitting time of $x\in X$ to $U$. We prove that given a sequence $(U_n)$ with $μ(U_n)\to 0$, the distribution function of the normalized hitting times to $U_n$ converges weakly to some sub-probability distribution $F$ if and only if the distribution function of the normalized return time converges weakly to some distribution function $\tilde F$, and that in the converging case, $$ F(t)=\int_0^t(1-\tilde F(s))ds, t\ge 0.\tag$\diamondsuit$ $$ This in particular characteri…
We present a generalized Lyapunov Schmidt reduction scheme for diffeomorphisms living on a finite dimensional real vector space V which transform under real one dimensional characters of an arbitrary compact group with linear action V. Moreover we prove a normal form theorem, such that the normal form still has the desirable transformation properties with respect to the character.
In this paper we prove the existence of a simultaneous local normalization for couples $(X,\mathcal{G})$, where $X$ is a vector field which vanishes at a point and $\mathcal{G}$ is a singular underlying geometric structure which is invariant with respect to $X$, in many different cases: singular volume forms, singular symplectic and Poisson structures, and singular contact structures. Similarly to Birkhoff normalization for Hamiltonian vector fields, our normalization is also only formal, in general. However, when $\mathcal{G}$ and $X$ are (real or complex) analytic and $X$ is analytically int…
Let $X$ be a normal projective variety of dimension $n$ and $G$ an abelian group of automorphisms such that all elements of $G\setminus \{\mathrm{id}\}$ are of positive entropy. Dinh and Sibony showed that $G$ is actually free abelian of rank $\le n - 1$. The maximal rank case has been well understood by De-Qi Zhang. We aim to characterize the pair $(X, G)$ such that $\mathrm{rank} G = n - 2$.
We discuss several aspects of the geometry of vector fields in (Poincare'-Dulac) normal form. Our discussion relies substantially on Michel theory and aims at a constructive approach to simplify the analysis of normal forms via a splitting based on the action of certain groups. The case, common in Physics, of systems enjoying an a priori symmetry is also discussed in some detail.
In this paper we examine the deviations from Gaussianity for two types of random variable converging to a normal distribution, namely sums of random variables generated by a deterministic discrete time map and a linearly damped variable driven by a deterministic map. We demonstrate how Edgeworth expansions provide a universal description of the deviations from the limiting normal distribution. We derive explicit expressions for these asymptotic expansions and provide numerical evidence of their accuracy.
In order to understand the impact of random influences at physical boundary on the evolution of multiscale systems, a stochastic partial differential equation model under a fast random dynamical boundary condition is investigated. The noises in the model and in the boundary condition are both additive. An effective equation is derived and justified by reducing the random \emph{dynamical} boundary condition to a simpler one. The effective system is still a stochastic partial differential equation. Furthermore, the quantitative comparison between the solution of the original stochastic system an…
Explicit description for arbitrary Newtonian dynamical system admitting the normal shift in Riemannian manifold of the dimension $n\geq 3$ is found. On the base of this result the kinematics of normal shift of hypersurfaces along trajectories of such system is studied.
We prove that, for translation surfaces whose homology is generated by the periodic orbits, the notions of - finite blocking property - pure periodicity - torus branched covering are equivalent. In particular, we prove this equivalence for convex surfaces and on a dense open subset of full measure on every normalized stratum.
We associate with every etale groupoid G two normal subgroups S(G) and A(G) of the topological full group of G, which are analogs of the symmetric and alternating groups. We prove that if G is a minimal groupoid of germs (e.g., of a group action), then A(G) is simple and is contained in every non-trivial normal subgroup of the full group. We show that if G is expansive (e.g., is the groupoid of germs of an expansive action of a group), then A(G) is finitely generated. We also show that S(G)/A(G) is a quotient of H_0(G, Z/2Z).
Brake orbits and homoclinics of autonomous dynamical systems correspond, via Maupertuis principle, to geodesics in Riemannian manifolds endowed with a metric which is singular on the boundary (Jacobi metric). Motivated by the classical, yet still intriguing in many aspects, problem of establishing multiplicity results for brake orbits and homoclinics, as done in [6, 7, 10], and by the development of a Morse theory in [8] for geodesics in such kind of metric, in this paper we study the related normal exponential map from a global perspective.
The normal distribution is used as a unified probability distribution, however, our researcher found that it is not good agreed with the real-life dynamical system's data. We collected and analyzed representative naturally occurring data series (e.g., the earth environment, sunspots, brain waves, electrocardiograms, some cases are classic chaos systems and social activities). It is found that the probability density functions (PDFs) of first or higher order differences for these datasets are consistently fat-tailed bell-shaped curves, and their associated cumulative distribution functions (CDF…
We present an adaptation of Stein's method of normal approximation to the study of both discrete- and continuous-time dynamical systems. We obtain new correlation-decay conditions on dynamical systems for a multivariate central limit theorem augmented by a rate of convergence. We then present a scheme for checking these conditions in actual examples. The principal contribution of our paper is the method, which yields a convergence rate essentially with the same amount of work as the central limit theorem, together with a multiplicative constant that can be computed directly from the assumption…
We find good dynamical compactifications for arbitrary polynomial mappings of C^2 and use them to show that the degree growth sequence satisfies a linear integral recursion formula. For maps of low topological degree we prove that the Green function is well behaved. For maps of maximum topological degree, we give normal forms.
We study the problem of finding algebraically stable models for non-invertible holomorphic fixed point germs $f\colon (X,x_0)\to (X,x_0)$, where $X$ is a complex surface having $x_0$ as a normal singularity. We prove that as long as $x_0$ is not a cusp singularity of $X$, then it is possible to find arbitrarily high modifications $π\colon X_π\to (X,x_0)$ such that the dynamics of $f$ (or more precisely of $f^N$ for $N$ big enough) on $X_π$ is algebraically stable. This result is proved by understanding the dynamics induced by $f$ on a space of valuations associated to $X$; in fact, we are able…
