Non-Abelian Vector Boson Dark Matter (VBDM), arising from an $SU(2)_N$ extension of the Standard Model (SM) has been studied. The Dark Matter (DM) is stabilized by imposing an additional discrete global symmetry $S^{'}$ with charges, such that it satisfies $S=S^{'}+T_{3N}$ even when $SU(2)_N$ is completely broken. This model, apart from a single-component DM also offers a two-component DM augmented by a scalar and a vector boson, which lives over a large parameter space evading strong direct search bounds. Apart from potential DM candidates, this model also explains the smallness of neutrino masses through the $inverse$ $seesaw$ $mechanism$. We have computed tree-unitarity bound to limit the scalar mass spectrum in our model. Phenomenological aspects of the model have been discussed. Further, we have analyzed the possible collider signatures at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its future implications.
The LHC will soon provide proton-proton collisions at the unprecedented center of mass energy, $\sqrt{s}=$14 TeV. This not only allows us to probe new regions of high-$p_T$ physics, but also low-$x$ and forward physics. A selection of potential measurements are described to outline the prospects for low-$x$ and forward physics in the ATLAS, CMS, TOTEM, and LHCf experiments.
The present status of theoretical calculations for signal and background processes relevant to the Higgs boson search at the LHC is reviewed, with special emphasis on recent developments. The issue of Higgs properties determination at the LHC is addressed.
The ATLAS and CMS collaborations recently reported indication of a Higgs boson around 125 GeV. If we add extra vector-like quarks to the MSSM, such a relatively heavy Higgs can be naturally realized in the GMSB framework, simultaneously explaining the muon g-2 anomaly. I will discuss LHC prospects of this attractive model.
We briefly review the status of high precision QCD predictions available for LHC processes, focusing on corrections beyond NLO and ways to make the latter available in a convenient format. As a phenomenological example we discuss the two-loop corrections to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion.
Hadron colliders are providing a unique opportunity for testing Lorentz invariance and CPT symmetry at high energy and in a laboratory. A first measurement in the top-quark sector was performed at the Tevatron. We present here prospective studies for testing Lorentz invariance in top-quark pair production at the LHC and future colliders. The b-quark sector was investigated recently at LHCb. Eventually, new bounds on photon parameters can be extracted from the observation of TeV photons at the LHC. We will conclude by highlighting other opportunities provided by hadron colliders.
The prospects for the determination of the properties of a hypothetical boson discovered at the Large Hadron Collider using measurements to be performed with the ATLAS and CMS detectors are summarized. The properties that are discussed are the mass of the boson, its width, the strength of its couplings to fermions, the strength and structure of its couplings to gauge bosons and its spin and CP quantum numbers.
Discovering the Higgs boson is one of the primary goals of both the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The present status of the Higgs search is reviewed and future prospects for discovery at the Tevatron and LHC are considered. This talk focuses primarily on the Higgs boson of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension. Theoretical expectations for the Higgs boson and its phenomenological consequences are reviewed.
Supersymmetry is one of the best-motivated candidates for physics beyond the Standard Model that might be discovered at the LHC. There are many reasons to expect that it may appear at the TeV scale, in particular because it provides a natural cold dark matter candidate. The apparent discrepancy between the experimental measurement of g_mu - 2 and the Standard model value calculated using low-energy e+ e- data favours relatively light sparticles accessible to the LHC. A global likelihood analysis including this, other electroweak precision observables and B-decay observables suggests that the L…
This paper investigates a signature of Lorentz invariance violation with the $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC and future hadron colliders. Possible deviations from the Lorentz symmetry remain poorly constrained in the top quark sector. With a dedicated analysis of $t\bar{t}$ events produced at the LHC, bounds in the top sector can be improved by up to three orders of magnitude relative to Tevatron, the only measurement existing so far. The sensitivity will be even further enhanced at the HL-LHC and future colliders.
The search for the Higgs boson is one of the main physics goals of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its two multi-purpose experiments, ATLAS and CMS. Vector boson fusion is the second largest production process for a standard model Higgs boson at the LHC and offers excellent means for background suppression. This paper gives an overview of the prospects of Higgs boson searches using vector boson fusion at the LHC. For a standard model Higgs boson, the decay channels H->tautau, H->WW and H->gammagamma are discussed. The discovery potential in the framework of the MSSM is summarized.
Right-handed neutrinos with large Majorana mass occur naturally in the left-right symmetric model. We explore the prospect of such heavy Right-handed Neutrino search Via $W_R$ decay in the Like Sign Dilepton channel at SSC/LHC. The standard model background can be effectively eliminated by suitable lepton $p_T$ and isolation cuts without affecting the signal cross section seriously. In this way it seems possible to explore the bulk of the parameter space $0 < M_{N_R} < M_{W_R}$, with $M_{W_R}$ going upto 3000 (2000) GeV at SSC (LHC) energy.
This is a review of the physics prospects for relativistic heavy ion collisions in the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The motivation for the study of superdense matter created in relativistic heavy ion collision is the prospect of observing a novel state of strongly interacting matter, the quark-gluon plasma. Experiments at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven have yielded important clues of the characteristic signatures of this new state. The LHC will extend the range of energy densities that can be explored and facilitate the obser…
The strategies recently developed to study Higgs boson properties at the LHC are reviewed. It is shown how to obtain model-independent determinations of couplings to fermions and gauge bosons by exploiting different production and decay channels. We consider in some detail the case of Weak Boson Fusion Higgs production with H --> b \bar b as well as the prospects for the determination of the Higgs self-coupling at the SLHC.
Stringent experimental constraints have raised the lower limit on the masses of squarks to TeV levels, while compatibility with the mass of the Higgs boson provides an upper limit. This two-sided bound has lead to the emergence of Mini-Split theories where gauginos are not far removed from the electroweak scale while scalars are somewhat heavier. This small hierarchy modifies the spectrum of standard anomaly and gauge mediation, leading to Mini-Split deflected anomaly and gauge mediation models. In this paper, we study LHC constraints on these models and their prospects at LHC 14 and a 100 TeV…
We review the motivation for hidden Higgs scenarios and discuss the light CP odd Higgs scenario in the NMSSM as an example. We summarize experimental constraints including recent limits from BaBar and Aleph. The main part of the talk is the discussion of dominant decay modes of the standard model like Higgs boson, and related decay modes of the charged Higgs and heavy CP even Higgs bosons, in these scenarios with the focus on signatures and prospects for the LHC. Examples include the direct production of a light CP odd Higgs boson, and a light charged Higgs boson in top quark decays.
The installation of forward proton detectors at the LHC will provide the possibility to observe central exclusive processes, opening a novel window on physics beyond the Standard Model. We review recent developments on the discovery potential from central exclusive light-by-light scattering. The search for this process is expected to provide bounds on a wide range of particles, and turns out to be complementary from new physics searches in inclusive channels.
We examine the prospects for LHC discovery of SU(2)_L singlet vector-like quarks that obey Minimal Flavour Violation (MFV) and are consistent with lower energy phenomenology. We study models where the vector-like quarks have the same quantum numbers as u_R or d_R, allowing mixing, which generally leads to significant low energy constraints. We find that there are two naturally phenomenologically viable MFV models of this type when the Weyl spinor components of the vector-like quarks are flavour triplets. We examine direct production bounds, flavour and electroweak precision data constraints fo…
Associated production of charged gauge bosons and charged charmed mesons at the LHC is considered in the framework of $k_T$-factorization approach. Theoretical predictions are compared with ATLAS data, and reasonably good agreement is found. Predictions on the same-sign $W^{\pm}D^{\pm}$ configurations are presented including single parton scattering and double parton scattering contributions. The latter are shown to dominate over the former, thus giving evidence that the proposed process can serve as another indicator of double parton interactions.
We extend our previous analysis on inclusive heavy quarkonia hadroproduction to the whole Upsilon(nS) (n=1,2,3) resonance family. We use a Monte Carlo framework with the colour-octet mechanism implemented in the PYTHIA event generator. We include in our study higher order QCD effects such as initial-state emission of gluons and Altarelli-Parisi evolution of final-state gluons. We extract some NRQCD colour-octet matrix elements relevant for Upsilon(nS) (n=1,2,3) hadroproduction from CDF data at the Fermilab Tevatron. Then we extrapolate to LHC energies to predict prompt bottomonia production ra…
At hadron colliders the $γγ+jet$ channel provides larger signal-to-background ratio in comparison with inclusive $γγ$ channel in hunting for scalars uncharged under the SM gauge group. At NLO in QCD perturbation theory we evaluate selfconsistently the signal significance for the SM Higgs boson production in $γγ+jet$ channel at LHC. Three-body final state kinematics allows for refined cuts. The adjustment of these cuts increases the signal significance upto the level of inclusive channel. Applying a justified simple rescaling procedure to the results obtained for SM Higgs boson, we estimate the…
We study the possible signals at LHC of the minimal models of decaying dark matter. Those models are characterized by the fact that DM interacts with SM particles through renormalizable coupling with an additional heavier charged state. Such interaction allows to produce a substantial abundance of DM in the early Universe via the decay of the charged heavy state, either in- or out-of-equilibrium. Moreover additional couplings of the charged particle open up decay channels for the DM, which can nevertheless be sufficiently long-lived to be a good DM candidate and within reach of future Indirect…
We investigate the prospects for heavy charged Higgs boson production through the mechanisms pp-bar(pp)->tbH+ +X at the upgraded Fermilab Tevatron and at the upcoming LHC collider at CERN respectively. We focus on the MSSM case at high values of tan[beta]> m_top/m_bot and include the leading SUSY quantum corrections. A detailed study is performed for all important production modes and basic background processes for the "ttbb" signature. At the upgraded Tevatron a charged Higgs signal is potentially viable in the 220-250 GeV range or excluded at 95%CL up to 300 GeV. At the LHC, a H+ of mass up …
We update the constraints on Two-Higgs-Doublet Models of Type I and II discussed in arXiv:1405.3584 using the latest LHC measurements of the ~125.5 GeV Higgs signal as of Summer 2014. We provide explicit comparisons of the results before and after the Summer 2014 ATLAS and CMS updates. Overall, the changes with respect to arXiv:1405.3584 are rather small; to a large extent this is due to the fact that both the ATLAS and the CMS updates of the $γγ$ decay mode moved closer to SM expectations.
Recently the ATLAS and CMS collaborations presented preliminary results of Standard Model Higgs searches and reported excesses of events for a Higgs boson at 124-126 GeV. Such a Higgs mass can be naturally realized, simultaneously explaining the muon g-2 anomaly, in gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models with extra vector-like matters. Upper bounds are obtained on the gluino mass, m_{\tilde g}\lesssim 1.2 (1.8) TeV, and on the extra vector-like quark mass, M_{Q'} \lesssim 1.0 (1.8) GeV, in the parameter region where the Higgs boson mass is 124-126 GeV and the muon g-2 is consistent with the exper…
In this decade, there are huge efforts to explore B-meson decays, which offer interesting probes to test the quark-flavour structure of the Standard Model and to search for signals of new physics. Exciting new perspectives for these studies will soon arise at the LHC, where decays of $B^0_s$ mesons will be a key target of the B-physics programme. We will discuss theoretical aspects of various benchmark channels and address the question of how much space for new-physics effects in their observables is left by the recent experimental results from the B factories and the Tevatron.
In these proceedings I explore one aspect of gauge-boson physics at the LHC - Triple Gauge-boson Couplings (TGCs) in $WZ$ and Wgamma production. Methods for extracting confidence limits on anomalous TGCs are assessed, while accounting for the effects of higher order QCD corrections and contributions from other theoretical and detector related systematics. Detector response has been parametrised according to the ATLAS detector's specifications. A strategy for reporting the anomalous coupling limits is introduced which removes the ambiguities of form factors by reporting the limits as a function…
The prospects for the measurement of $B_{s}^{0}$ oscillations with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. $B_{s}^{0}$ candidates in the $D_{s}^{-} π^{+}$ and $D_{s}^{-} a_{1}^{+}$ decay modes from semileptonic events were fully simulated and reconstructed, using a detailed detector description. The sensitivity and the expected accuracy for the measurement of the oscillation frequency were derived from unbinned maximum likelihood amplitude fits as functions of the integrated luminosity. A detailed treatment of the systematic uncertainties was performed. The dependence of…
We explore supersymmetry (SUSY) parameter space with non-universal high scale parameters in gravity mediated SUSY breaking (SUGRA) scenario that accommodates a Higgs mass of (125$\pm$2) GeV while satisfying cold dark matter relic density and other low energy constraints. We indicate a few benchmark points consistent with different dark matter annihilation processes where third family squarks are lighter than the first two as a requirement to keep the Higgs mass within the limit. We show that bottom rich and leptonic final states have better reach in such parameter space points and is the most …
I will review simplified models with leptoquarks, which can explain recent anomalies in $B$-meson physics, and I will indicate the High-Luminosity LHC prospects for testing these theories, with a special focus to the efficient channel of pair leptoquark production in the $t\bar t$ plus missing energy final state.
We show prospects on a search for invisible decays of a Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). This search is performed on a Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson. We expect that the branching ratio of 17-22% (6-14%) could be excluded at 95% confidence level with 300 fb^{-1} (3000 fb^{-1}) of data at sqrt(s)=14 TeV. The range indicates different assumptions on the control of systematic uncertainties. Interpretations with Higgs-portal dark matter models are also considered.
We report on the potential for the discovery of a Standard Model Higgs boson with the vector boson fusion mechanism in the mass range $115<M_H<500 \gev$ with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Feasibility studies at hadron level followed by a fast detector simulation have been performed for $H\to W^{(*)}W^{(*)}\to l^+l^-\sla{p_T}$, $H\toγγ$ and $H\to ZZ\to l^+l^-q\bar{q}$. The results obtained show a large discovery potential in the range $115<M_H<300 \gev$. Results obtained with multivariate techniques are reported for a number of channels.
Composite Higgs models predict the existence of resonances. We study in detail the collider phenomenology of both the vector and fermionic resonances, including the possibility of both of them being light and within the reach of the LHC. We present current constraints from di-boson, di-lepton resonance searches and top partner pair searches on a set of simplified benchmark models based on the minimal coset $SO(5)/SO(4)$, and make projections for the reach of the HL-LHC. We find that the cascade decay channels for the vector resonances into top partners, or vice versa, can play an important rol…
We analyze the Two-Higgs-Doublet Models (2HDMs) of Type I and II for consistency with the latest measurements of the ~125.5 GeV Higgs-like signal at the LHC. To this end, we perform scans of the 2HDM parameter space taking into account all relevant pre-LHC constraints as well as the most recent limits coming from searches for heavy Higgs-like states at the LHC. The current status of the 2HDMs of Type I and II is discussed assuming that the observed 125.5 GeV state is one of the two CP-even Higgs bosons, either the lighter h or the heavier H. Implications for future experiments, including expec…
Prospects for strangeness production in pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are discussed within the statistical model. Firstly, the system size and the energy dependence of the model parameters are extracted from existing data and extrapolated to LHC energy. Particular attention is paid to demonstrate that the chemical decoupling temperature is independent of the system size. In the energy regime investigated so far, strangeness production in pp interactions is strongly influenced by the canonical suppression effects. At LHC energies, this influence might be reduced. Particle rat…
In this talk, prospects for the charged Higgs in non-SUSY models are reviewed, in view of LHC results (as of October, 2012). The four models (Type I, Type II, lepton-specific and flipped) without tree level flavor-changing neutral currents are discussed. Updates for the case in which the charged Higgs is lighter than the top, leading to production in top decays, are presented along with expectations for the future. If the charged Higgs is heavier than the top quark, detection may be possible through the tau-nu decay mode. In addition, it is pointed out that the decay of the charged Higgs into …
The capabilities of the ATLAS detector to measure the $B_{s}^{0}$ oscillations in proton-proton interactions at the Large Hadron Collider were evaluated. $B_{s}^{0}$ candidates in the $D_{s}^{-} π^{+}$ and $D_{s}^{-} a_{1}^{+}$ decay modes from semileptonic exclusive events were fully simulated and reconstructed, using a detailed detector description. The sensitivity and the expected accuracy for the measurement of the oscillation frequency were derived from unbinned maximum likelihood amplitude fits as functions of the integrated luminosity. A detailed treatment of the systematic uncertaintie…
We review the status of theoretical calculations relevant for electroweak physics at hadron colliders. The large parton flux at high energy gives rise to events where different pairs of partons interact contemporarily with large momentum exchange. We present calculations of the cross-section for two, three and four weak gauge bosons production in single and multiparton interactions.
The sensitivity of the LHC experiments to the Standard Model Higgs using $H\toττ\to l^+l^-\sla{p_t}$ associated with one high $P_T$ jet in the mass range $110 <M_H<150 \gev$/c$^2$ is investigated. A cut and Neural Network based event selections are chosen to optimize the expected signal significance with this decay mode. A signal significance of about $6.6 σ$ can be achieved for $M_H=120 \gev$/c$^2$ with $30 $fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity for one experiment only. With this approach, experimental issues related to tagging forward jets and to the application of a central jet veto are simpli…
Searches for charged Higgs bosons are an integral part of current and future investigations at the LHC. The LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group (LHCHXSWG) was created to provide cross sections, branching ratios, analysis strategies etc. for Higgs boson searches at the LHC. We briefly review progress and results for charged Higgs bosons in and for the LHCHXSWG.
We discuss the possibility of extracting ${\mid}V_{cb}{\mid}$ from the future measurement at LHC of the $B_c\ {\rightarrow}\ J/ψ μ^+\ ν$ decay rate followed by the leptonic decay $J/ψ {\rightarrow}\ μ^+μ^-$. We examine in detail the influence of the measurement of the muons' momenta and vertex reconstruction in the final uncertainty of ${\mid}V_{cb}{\mid}$, as well as the required theoretical inputs at both the production and weak decay level, and their reliability in this regard. We stress the relevance of a rigorous description of the fragmentation contributions to inclusive production at la…
We present a comprehensive analysis of observing a light Higgs boson in the mass range $70$ -- $110$ GeV at the 13/14 TeV LHC, in the context of the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model. The decay of the light Higgs to a pair of bottom quarks is dominant in most parts of the parameter space, except in the fermiophobic limit. Here its decay to bosons, (mainly a pair of photons), becomes important. We perform an extensive collider analysis for the $b\bar{b}$ and $γγ$ final states. The light scalar is tagged in the highly boosted regimes for the $b \bar{b}$ mode to reduce the enormous QCD background. T…
The production of weak gauge bosons in association with heavy flavored mesons at the LHCb conditions is considered, and a detailed study of the different contributing processes is presented including single (SPS) and double (DPS) parton scattering mechanisms. We find that the usual DPS factorization formula needs to be corrected for the limited partonic phase space, and that including the relevant corrections reduces discrepancies in the associated $ZD$ production. We conclude finally that double parton scattering dominates the production of same-sign $W^\pm D^\pm$ states, as well as the produ…
High-energy collisions at the LHC are now starting. The new physics agenda of the LHC is reviewed, with emphasis on the hunt for the Higgs boson (or whatever replaces it) and supersymmetry. In particular, the prospects for discovering new physics in the 2010-2011 run are discussed.
If the scalar tau $\stau$ is the next lightest supersymmetric particle and decays into a gravitino ($\gravitino$) being the lightest supersymmetric particle, it will have generally a very long lifetime. In this paper, we investigate the possibility to study the decay of such a long lived scalar tau at the LHC. If we can add to the present LHC experiments additional detectors which are able to stop the stau particles and measure the produced decay products, the decay characteristics can be studied precisely at the LHC. We identify a maximum "stopper detector" that could be added in the CMS cave…
We discuss the prospects for observing multiple weak gauge boson production at the SSC and LHC. We summarize conventional perturbative cross sections for processes involving 1-6 final state weak gauge bosons and compare them with more speculative scenarios including 1) a toy model of a strongly interacting Higgs sector patterned after hadronic multipion production and 2) the nonperturbative production of O(30) weak gauge bosons in a weakly coupled gauge sector.
Discussions are underway for a high-energy proton-proton collider. Two preliminary ideas are the $\sqrt{s}=33$ TeV HE-LHC and the $\sqrt{s}=100$ TeV VLHC. With Bayesian statistics, we calculate the probabilities that the LHC, HE-LHC and VLHC discover SUSY in the future, assuming that nature is described by the CMSSM and given the experimental data from the LHC, LUX and Planck. We find that the LHC with $300$/fb at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV has a $15$-$75%$ probability of discovering SUSY. Should that run fail to discover SUSY, the probability of discovering SUSY with $3000$/fb is merely $1$-$10%$. Wer…
We present the results and prospects for searches beyond the Standard Model (SM) at the LHC by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. The minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM has been investigated in various configurations and lower limits are set on the s-particle masses. The searches for other scenarios of physics beyond the SM are also presented and lower limits on the mass scale are derived in a large variety of models (new heavy gauge bosons, extra-dimensions, compositeness or dark matter). The prospects for physics using 300 /fb and 3000 /fb of data at the high luminosity LHC are also s…
The Neutral $Z$ boson pair production due to radion resonance at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is an interesting process to explore the notion of warped geometry (Randall-Sundrum model). Because of the enhanced coupling of radion with a pair of gluons due to trace enomaly and top(quark) loop, the radion can provide larger event rate possibility as compared to any New Physics effect. Using the proper radion-top-antitop (with the quarks being off-shell) coupling, we obtain the correct radion production rate at LHC and explore several features of a heavier radion decaying into a pair of real $Z…
The absence of deviations from the Standard Model for the differential cross section ${dσ}/{dQ^2}$ at HERA is used to set limits on electron quark compositeness scale and on new vector bosons, especially the hadrophilic one recently introduced as a possible explanation for LEP/SLC and CDF anomalies.
New studies of the ATLAS and CMS collaborations are presented on the sensitivity to searches for non-standard signatures of particular SUSY scenarios. These signatures include non-pointing photons, as well as pairs of prompt photons, as expected in GMSB SUSY models, as well as heavy stable charged particles produced in split supersymmetry models, long lived staus from GMSB SUSY and long lived stops in other SUSY scenarios. A detailed detector simulation is used for the study, and all relevant Standard Model backgrounds and detector effects that can mimic these special signatures are included. …
After the observation of a Higgs boson near 125 GeV, the high energy physics community is investigating possible next steps for entering into a new era in particle physics. It is planned that the Large Hadron Collider will deliver an integrated luminosity of up to 3000/fb for the CMS and ATLAS experiments, requiring several upgrades for all detectors. The reach of various representative searches for supersymmetry and exotica physics with the upgraded detectors are discussed in this context, where a very high instantaneous luminosity will lead to a large number of pileup events in each bunch cr…
In a composite model of the weak bosons the p-wave bosons are studied. The state with the lowest mass is identified with the boson, which might have been detected recently at the LHC. Specific properties of these excited bosons are studied, in particular their decays into weak bosons, into photons and into leptons or quarks.
The prospects for observing an invisibly decaying Higgs boson in the t anti-t H production at LHC are discussed. An isolated lepton, reconstructed hadronic top-quark decay, two identified b-jets and large missing transverse energy are proposed as the final state signature for event selection. Only the Standard Model backgrounds are taken into account. It is shown that the t anti-t Z, t anti-t W, b anti-b Z and b anti-b W backgrounds can individually be suppressed below the signal expectation. The dominant source of background remains the t anti-t production. The key for observability will be a…
