We compute the one-loop running of the $SU(N)$ 't Hooft coupling in a finite volume gradient flow scheme using twisted boundary conditions. The coupling is defined in terms of the energy density of the gradient flow fields at a scale $\tilde{l}$ given by an adequate combination of the torus size and the rank of the gauge group, and is computed in the continuum using dimensional regularization. We present the strategy to regulate the divergences for a generic twist tensor, and determine the matching to the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme at one-loop order. For the particular case in which the twist tensor is non-trivial in a single plane, we evaluate the matching coefficient numerically and determine the ratio of $Λ$ parameters between the two schemes. We analyze the $N$ dependence of the results and the possible implications for non-commutative gauge theories and volume independence.
We measure the running of the twisted gradient flow coupling in the Twisted Eguchi-Kawai (TEK) model, the SU(N) gauge theory on a single site lattice with twisted boundary conditions in the large N limit.
We report the nonperturbative behavior of the twisted Polyakov loop (TPL) coupling constant for the SU(3) gauge theories defined by the ratio of Polyakov loop correlators in finite volume with twisted boundary condition. Carrying out the numerical simulations, we determine the nonperturbative running coupling constant in this renormalization scheme for Nf=12 SU(3) gauge theory. According to the perturbative two loop analysis, the Nf=12 SU(3) gauge theory might have a conformal fixed point in the infrared region. However, the recent lattice studies show controversial results for the existence o…
We report on our ongoing computation of the perturbative running of the Yang-Mills coupling using gradient flow techniques. In particular, we use the gradient flow method with twisted boundary conditions to perform a perturbative expansion of the expectation value of the Yang-Mills energy density up to fourth order in the coupling at finite flow time. We regularise the resulting integrals using dimensional regularisation, and reproduce the universal coefficient of the 1/ε term in the relation between bare and renormalised couplings. The computation of the finite part leading to a determination…
We report the nonperturbative behavior of the twisted Polyakov loop (TPL) coupling constant for the SU(3) gauge theories defined by the ratio of Polyakov loop correlators in finite volume with twisted boundary condition. We reveal the vacuum structures and the phase structure for the lattice gauge theory with the twisted boundary condition. Carrying out the numerical simulations, we determine the nonperturbative running coupling constant in this renormalization scheme for the quenched QCD and Nf=12 SU(3) gauge theories. At first, we study the quenched QCD theory using the plaquette gauge actio…
We compute the perturbative expression of Wilson loops up to order $g^4$ for SU($N$) lattice gauge theories with Wilson action on a finite box with twisted boundary conditions. Our formulas are valid for any dimension and any irreducible twist. They contain as a special case that of the 4-dimensional Twisted Eguchi-Kawai model for a symmetric twist with flux $k$. Our results allow us to analyze the finite volume corrections as a function of the flux. In particular, one can quantify the approach to volume independence at large $N$ as a function of flux $k$. The contribution of fermion fields in…
We report some preliminary results of our ongoing non-perturbative computation of the twisted 't Hooft running coupling in a particular set-up, using the gradient flow to define the coupling and step scaling techniques to compute it. For the computation we considered a pure gauge SU(3) theory in four dimensions, defined on the lattice on an asymmetrical torus endowed with twisted boundary conditions in a single plane, and related the energy scale of the coupling to an effective size combining the size of the torus and the rank of the gauge group. Additionally, we explore some of the effects of…
We give a general introduction and discussion of the issues involved in using the twisted mass formulation of lattice fermions in the context of disconnected loop calculations, including a short orientation on the present experimental situation for nucleon strange quark form factors. A prototype calculation of the disconnected part of the nucleon scalar form factor is described.
We study the perturbative behavior of the gradient flow in a twisted box. We apply this information to define a running coupling using the energy density of the flow field. We study the step-scaling function and the size of cutoff effects in SU(2) pure gauge theory. We conclude that the twisted gradient flow running coupling scheme is a valid strategy for step-scaling purposes due to the relatively mild cutoff effects and high precision.
We report on an ongoing study of the running coupling of SU(N) pure Yang-Mills theory in the twisted gradient flow scheme (TGF). The study exploits the idea that twisted boundary conditions reduce finite volume effects, leading to an effective size in the twisted plane that combines the number of colours and the torus period. We test this hypothesis by computing the TGF running coupling and the SU(N) $Λ-$ parameter on asymmetric lattices of size $(NL)^2L^2$ for various gauge groups. Finite volume effects are monitored by analyzing the coupling in different planes and by comparing results at di…
We compute the disconnected quark loops contributions entering the determination of nucleon observables, by using a $N_f = 2$ ensemble of twisted mass fermions with a clover term at a pion mass $m_π= 133$ MeV. We employ exact deflation and implement all calculations in GPUs, enabling us to achieve large statistics and a good signal.
Using Chiral Perturbation Theory at one-loop we analyze the consequences of twisted boundary conditions. We point out that due to the broken Lorentz and reflection symmetry a number of unexpected terms show up in the expressions. We explicitly discuss the pseudo-scalar octet masses, axial-vector and pseudo-scalar decay constants and electromagnetic form-factors. We show how the Ward identities are satisfied using the momentum dependent masses and the non-zero vacuum-expectation-values values for the electromagnetic (vector) currents. Explicit expressions at one-loop are provided and an appendi…
We study the gradient flow for Yang-Mills theories with twisted boundary conditions. The perturbative behavior of the energy density $\langle E(t)\rangle$ is used to define a running coupling at a scale given by the linear size of the finite volume box. We compute the non-perturbative running of the pure gauge $SU(2)$ coupling constant and conclude that the technique is well suited for further applications due to the relatively mild cutoff effects of the step scaling function and the high numerical precision that can be achieved in lattice simulations. We also comment on the inclusion of matte…
We estimate the $Λ$-parameter in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme for the SU(3) pure gauge theory with the twisted gradient flow method non-perturbatively. We obtain $Λ_{\overline{\mathrm{MS}}}/\sqrtσ=0.527(13)(10)$ and $r_{0}Λ_{\overline{\mathrm{MS}}}=0.605(15)(5)$ which are consistent with the known values. This demonstrates the validity of the present method.
We measure the running of the $SU(\infty)$ 't Hooft coupling by performing a step scaling analysis of the Twisted Eguchi-Kawai (TEK) model, the SU($N$) gauge theory on a single site lattice with twisted boundary conditions. The computation relies on the conjecture that finite volume effects for SU(N) gauge theories defined on a 4-dimensional twisted torus are controlled by an effective size parameter $\tilde l = l \sqrt{N}$, with $l$ the torus period. We set the scale for the running coupling in terms of $\tilde l$ and use the gradient flow to define a renormalized 't Hooft coupling $λ(\tilde …
In this talk we discuss a number of ChPT calculations relevant for lattice QCD. These include the finite volume corrections at two-loop order for masses and decay constants. The second part is about hadronic vacuum polarization where we present the two-loop ChPT estimate for the disconnected and strange quark contributions. We also present the finite volume corrections at two-loop order. The final part is the one-loop finite volume with twisted boundary conditions contribution to $f_+(q^2)$ and the full $K_{\ell3}$ amplitude
We measure the renormalized coupling in the Twisted Polyakov loop scheme for SU(3) gauge theory coupled with $N_f=12$ fundamental fermions. To find the infrared fixed point of this theory, we focus on the step scaling function for the renormalized coupling. We take the continuum limit using the linear function of $(a/L)^2$ and a constant fit function. We find that there is a sizeable systematic error due to the choice of the continuum extrapolation function in the low energy region. We will give some directions to reduce the systematic errors.
We present a non-perturbative study of the running coupling constant in the Twisted Polyakov Loop (TPL) scheme. We investigate how the systematic and statistical errors can be controlled {\it via} a feasibility study in SU(3) pure Yang-Mills theory. We show that our method reproduces the perturbative determination of the running coupling in the UV. In addition, our numerical result agrees with the theoretical prediction of this coupling constant in the IR. We also present our preliminary results for $N_f=12$ QCD, where an IR fixed point may be present.
We report on our computation of the perturbative running of the 't Hooft coupling in a pure gauge $SU(N)$ theory with twisted boundary conditions. The coupling is defined in terms of the energy density of the flow fields at a scale given by a particular combination of the linear size of the torus and the rank of the gauge group. We present our results for the matching at one-loop order to the $\bar{MS}$ scheme in the case of a two-dimensional non-trivial twist. The ratio of $Λ$ parameters is determined for the case of $SU(3)$ and for various other values of the number of colours and several ch…
We report the results of the lattice simulation of the ${\mathbb C} P^{N-1}$ sigma model on $S_{s}^{1}$(large) $\times$ $S_τ^{1}$(small). We take a sufficiently large ratio of the circumferences to approximate the model on ${\mathbb R} \times S^1$. For periodic boundary condition imposed in the $S_τ^{1}$ direction, we show that the expectation value of the Polyakov loop undergoes a deconfinement crossover as the compactified circumference is decreased, where the peak of the associated susceptibility gets sharper for larger $N$. For ${\mathbb Z}_{N}$ twisted boundary condition, we find that, ev…
We present a determination of the gradient flow scales $w_0$, $\sqrt{t_0}$ and $t_0/w_0$ in isosymmetric QCD, making use of the gauge ensembles produced by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with $N_f=2+1+1$ flavours of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks including configurations close to the physical point for all dynamical flavours. The simulations are carried out at three values of the lattice spacing and the scale is set through the PDG value of the pion decay constant, yielding $w_0=0.17383(63)$ fm, $\sqrt{t_0}=0.14436(61)$ fm and $t_0/w_0=0.11969(62)$ fm. Finally, fixing the ka…
We present preliminary result for the step-scaling study of the coupling constant with the Yang-Mills gradient flow, in the twelve-favour SU(3) gauge theory. In this work, the lattice simulation is performed using unimproved staggered fermions and the Wilson plaquette gauge action, from which the gradient flow is also implemented. Imposing twisted boundary condition a'la t'Hooft and Parisi, our calculation is performed at zero fermion mass. The renormalised coupling constant is extracted via the computation of the energy density. In order to examine the reliability of the continuum extrapolati…
We evaluate the $Λ$-parameter in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme for the pure SU(3) gauge theory with the twisted gradient flow (TGF) method. A running coupling constant $g_{\mathrm{TGF}}^2(1/L)$ is defined in a finite volume box with size of $L^4$ with the twisted boundary condition. This defines the TGF scheme. Using the step scaling method for the TGF coupling with lattice simulations, we can evaluate the $Λ$-parameter non-perturbatively in the TGF scheme. In this paper we determine the dimensionless ratios, $Λ_{\mathrm{TGF}}/\sqrtσ$ and $r_{0}Λ_{\mathrm{TGF}}$ together with the $Λ$-par…
Using smeared Creutz ratios we extract the string tension for SU(N) pure gauge theory and $N$=3,4,5,6,8. We employ these results to extrapolate to large N. The same methodology is applied to the single-site Twisted Eguchi Kawai model. The corresponding string tension matches perfectly within errors with the extrapolated one, providing strong evidence in favour of the twisted reduction framework. Interesting results are also obtained on the behaviour of Creutz ratios for large sizes.
We compare lattice QCD determinations of topological susceptibility using a gluonic definition from the gradient flow and a fermionic definition from the spectral projector method. We use ensembles with dynamical light, strange and charm flavors of maximally twisted mass fermions. For both definitions of the susceptibility we employ ensembles at three values of the lattice spacing and several quark masses at each spacing. The data are fitted to chiral perturbation theory predictions with a discretization term to determine the continuum chiral condensate in the massless limit and estimate the o…
We present results on the isovector and isoscalar nucleon axial form factors including disconnected contributions, using an ensemble of $N_f =2$ twisted mass clover- improved Wilson fermions simulated with approximately the physical value of the pion mass. The light disconnected quark loops are computed using exact deflation, while the strange and the charm quark loops are evaluated using the truncated solver method. Techniques such as the summation and the two-state fits have been employed to access ground-state dominance.
A new family of coherent states for all dimensional loop quantum gravity are proposed, which is based on the generalized twisted geometry parametrization of the phase space of $SO(D+1)$ connection theory. We prove that this family of coherent states provide an over-complete basis of the Hilbert space in which edge simplicity constraint is solved. Moreover, according to our explicit calculation, the expectation values of holonomy and flux operators with respect to this family of coherent states coincide with the corresponding classical values given by the labels of the coherent states, up to so…
Non-singlet chiral Ward identities for fermionic operators at positive flow-time are derived using standard techniques based on local chiral variations of the action and of local operators. The gradient flow formalism is applied to twisted mass fermions and it is shown that automatic O(a) improvement for Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist is a property valid also at positive flow-time. A definition of the chiral condensate that is multiplicatively renormalizable and automatically O(a) improved is then derived.
We propose a definition of the running coupling constant in a SU(2) lattice gauge theory with twisted boundary conditions. It is based on the correlation of Polyakov loops extended in a twisted direction at a distance which is a fixed fraction of the totale lattice size. We make the perturbative calculation which connects this definition to standard regularization schemes. We find Lambda_Twisted-Polyakov/Lambda_MSbar = 1.6136(2).
