The $p_\perp$ dependence of the nuclear modification factor $R_{\text{AA}}$ measured in PbPb collisions at the LHC exhibits a universal shape, which can be very well reproduced in a simple energy loss model based on the BDMPS medium-induced gluon spectrum. We update a former study by including in the analysis the recent CMS measurements on $J/ψ$ production in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV and charged hadron production in XeXe collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.44$ TeV. The average parton energy loss extracted from minimum bias XeXe collisions is reduced typically by 20% compared to PbPb collisions, consistent with a length dependence $\langle\barε\rangle \propto L^{1.3\pm0.5}$ with $L\propto A^{1/3}$.
Experimental measurements indicate no suppression (e.g. $R_\text{pPb} \sim 1$) but a surprisingly large D meson $v_2$ was measured in pPb collisions. In order to understand these results we use Trento+v-USPhydro+DAB-MOD to make predictions and propose a system size scan at the LHC involving $^{208}$PbPb, $^{129}$XeXe, $^{40}$ArAr, and $^{16}$OO collisions. We find that the nuclear modification factor approaches unity as the system size is decreased, but nonetheless, in the 0-10% most central collisions $v_2\{2\}$ is roughly equivalent regardless of system size. These results arise from a rathe…
Recent experimental data at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) confirmed that the soft sector azimuthal anisotropies in central XeXe collisions are sensitive to deformations in the wave function of the Xenon nucleus. Additionally, the CMS experiment found that D meson flow is slightly suppressed compared to other particle species when considering quark number scaling in small systems of pPb compared to PbPb. In this talk we used the D and B Mesons Modular (DAB-MOD) code coupled to Trento+v-USPhydro to calculate the $R_{AA}$ and $v_n$'s of D mesons using different energy loss models and Langevin t…
Experimental measurements in pA collisions indicate no D meson suppression ($R_{\rm pPb} \sim 1$) but a surprisingly large $v_2$. To better understand these results we propose a system size scan at the LHC involving $^{16}$OO, $^{40}$ArAr, $^{129}$XeXe and $^{208}$PbPb collisions. Using Trento+ v-USPhydro+DAB-MOD to make predictions, we find that the $R_{\rm AA}$ tends towards unity when the system size is decreased, but nonetheless, in the most central collisions $v_2\{2\}$ is almost independent of the colliding system. These results are analyzed in light of path length and initial eccentrici…
Recent LHC results concerning full jet-quenching in PbPb collisions have been presented in terms of a jet asymmetry parameter, measuring the imbalance between the transverse momenta of leading and subleading jets. We examine the potential sensitivity of this distribution to fluctuations from the heavy-ion background. Our results suggest that a detailed estimate of the true fluctuations would be of benefit in extracting quantitative information about jet quenching. We also find that the apparent impact of fluctuations on the jet asymmetry distribution can depend significantly on the choice of l…
The inclusive transverse momentum (pt) distribution of hadrons inside jets produced in PbPb and pp collisions are simulated with the YaJEM and Pythia 6 Monte Carlo (MC) event generators. The effects of jet quenching are studied via the ratios of PbPb over pp hadron pt spectra, either by accounting for the induced virtuality Delta Q^2 transferred from the strongly-interacting medium to the parton shower or by modifying the soft sector of the parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions. The MC results are compared to experimental jet data measured by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of…
The first LHC data on high transverse momentum hadron and dijet spectra in PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed in the frameworks of PYQUEN jet quenching model. The presented studies for the nuclear modification factor of high-pT hadrons and the imbalance in dijet transverse energy support the supposition that the intensive wide-angular ("out-of-cone") medium-induced partonic energy loss is seen in central PbPb collisions at the LHC.
A long standing question in the field of heavy-ion collisions is whether charm quarks are thermalized within the Quark Gluon Plasma. In recent years, progress in lattice QCD simulations has led to reliable results for the equation of state of a system of 2+1 flavors (up, down, and strange) and 2+1+1 flavors (up, down, strange, and charm). We find that the equation of state strongly affects differential flow harmonics and a preference is seen for thermalized charm quarks at the LHC. Predictions are also made for the event-plane correlations at RHIC AuAu $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV collisions, and t…
The jet quenching phenomenon in heavy ion collisions provides a strong evidence of the modification of parton shower in the quark-gluon plasma. This contribution focuses on the hard probes of QGP using jets and summarizes the new theoretical progress of jet substructure modification studies using effective field theory techniques. We emphasize the important role of jet substructure observables as they probe various aspects of the jet formation mechanism and allow us to study the medium properties in great details. The precise calculations require the systematic resummation and consistently inc…
The $p_\perp$ dependence of the nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm AA}$ measured in PbPb collisions at the LHC exhibits a universal shape, which can be very well reproduced in a simple energy loss model based on the BDMPS medium-induced gluon spectrum. The scaling is observed for various hadron species ($h^\pm$, $D$, $J/ψ$) in different centrality classes and at both colliding energies, $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV. Results indicate an 10-20% increase of the transport coefficient from $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV to $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV, consistent with that of particle multiplicity. Bas…
The effects of heavy quarks energy loss on the transverse momentum spectra of single muons are studied. The energy loss of heavy quarks when traversing the medium formed in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$=5.5 TeV is calculated by implementing the collision geometry and the quenching weights. The medium density is assumed to decrease at forward pseudo-rapidity and to be proportional with pseudo-rapidity multiplicity $dN/dη$. Muons from W decays can be used as a medium-blind reference to quantify the effect of heavy quarks energy loss on the single muon production.

In this work, we investigate possible impacts that the behavior of the Quark-Gluon Plasma might have on Jet Observables. We choose JEWEL (Jet Evolution With Energy Loss) for this study. We have coupled JEWEL with $\rm T_RENTo$ and also with MC-KLN+vUSPhydro for simulations. The simulations were performed for PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76 \, {\rm TeV}$ in the $0-10\%$ centrality class. We have found that jet shape observables are mainly unchanged by the inclusion of realistic hydrodynamics and initial conditions in these settings. We also made calculations for the jet $v_2$. In this …
Effects of strong longitudinal colour electric fields (SCF), shadowing, and quenching on the open prompt charm mesons (D$^0$, D$^+$, D$^{*+}$, D${_s}{^+}$) production in central Pb + Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV are investigated within the framework of the {\small HIJING/BB v2.0} model. We compute the nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm PbPb}^{\rm D}$, and show that the above nuclear effects constitute important dynamical mechanisms in the description of experimental data. The strength of colour fields (as characterized by the string tension $κ$), partonic energy loss and je…
The LHC data on jet fragmentation function and jet shapes in PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed and interpreted in the frameworks of PYQUEN jet quenching model. A specific modification of longitudinal and radial jet profiles in most central PbPb collisions as compared with pp data is close to that obtained with PYQUEN simulations taking into account wide-angle radiative and collisional partonic energy loss. The contribution of radiative and collisional loss to the medium-modified intra-jet structure is estimated.
We construct a measure of transverse momentum loss of jets in nuclear collisions at LHC directly using measurements of jet cross sections in PbPb and pp collisions. The proposal is shown to be equivalent to R_AA and is equally straightforward to construct. Using data from the ATLAS collaboration at two different collision energies, we show that the proposed measure has small statistical uncertainties. We argue that systematic errors can be easily improved over our estimates by the experimental collaboration to such an extent that it directly probes whether the jet-medium interaction is due to …
Nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}(p_{T})$ for large transverse momentum pion spectra in $Pb+Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV is predicted within the NLO perturbative QCD parton model. Effect of jet quenching is incorporated through medium modified fragmentation functions within the higher-twist approach. The jet transport parameter that controls medium modification is proportional to the initial parton density and the coefficient is fixed by the RHIC data on suppression of large $p_{T}$ hadron spectra. Data on charged hadron multiplicity $dN_{ch}/dη=1584 \pm 80$ in central $Pb+Pb$ colli…
Event-by-event fluctuations caused by quantum mechanical fluctuations in the wave function of colliding nuclei in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions were recently shown to be necessary for the simultaneous description of $R_{AA}$ as well as the elliptic and triangular flow harmonics at high $p_T$ in PbPb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. In fact, the presence of a finite triangular flow as well as cumulants of the flow harmonic distribution that differ from the mean are only possible when these event-by-event fluctuations are considered. In this paper we combine event-by-event visco…
Collisions of heavy ion nuclei at relativistic speeds (close to the speed of light) creates a high temperature and very dense form of matter, now known to consist of de-confined quarks and gluons, named the quark gluon plasma (QGP). In this thesis, Run1 experimental data from pp and heavy ion collisions at the CERN LHC is analyzed with the CMS detector. The pp jet cross section is compared with next to leading order theoretical calculations supplemented with non perturbative corrections for three different jet radii highlighting better comparisons for larger radii jets. Measurement of the jet …
The strong suppression of high-$p_T$ jets in heavy ion collisions is a result of elastic and inelastic energy loss suffered by the jet multi-prong collection of color charges that are resolved by medium interactions. Hence, quenching effects depend on the fluctuations of the jet substructure that are probed by the cone size dependence of the spectrum. In this letter, we present the first complete, analytic calculation of the inclusive $R$-dependent jet spectrum in PbPb collisions at LHC energies, including resummation of energy loss effects from hard, vacuum-like emissions occurring in the med…
We present the results of an improved Monte Carlo Glauber (MCG) model of relevance for collisions involving nuclei at center-of-mass energies of BNL RHIC ($\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=0.2$ TeV), CERN LHC ($\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$-$8.8$ TeV), and proposed future hadron colliders ($\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}\approx 10$-$63$ TeV). The inelastic pp cross sections as a function of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ are obtained from a precise data-driven parametrization that exploits the many available measurements at LHC collision energies. We describe the nuclear transverse profile with two separated 2-parameter Fermi distributio…
