The origin of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) is one of the major puzzles beyond the Standard Model. Detecting the particles responsible for the generation of the BAU would enormously boost our understanding of physics of the early Universe. Here we demonstrate that searches for displaced vertices at ATLAS, CMS and LHCb allow detecting heavy neutral leptons (HNL) with parameters that can simultaneously lead to the successful generation of the BAU and explain the masses and oscillations of active neutrinos. The combination of a dedicated LHC search program and a complementary Intensity Frontier experiment (such as SHiP) will allow exploring a sizeable part of the "minimal HNL baryogenesis" parameter space.
High-intensity proton beams impinging on a fixed target or beam dump allow to probe new physics via the production of new weakly-coupled particles in hadron decays. The CERN SPS provides opportunities to do so with the running NA62 experiment and the planned SHiP experiment. Reconstruction of kaon decay kinematics (beam mode) allows NA62 to probe for the existence of right-handed neutrinos and dark photons with masses below 0.45 GeV. Direct reconstruction of displaced vertices from the decays of new neutral particles (dump mode) will allow NA62 and SHiP to probe right-handed neutrinos with mas…
We discuss how to calculate cross sections as well as rapidity, transverse momentum and energy distributions of $ν_τ$ and ${\overline ν}_τ$ produced from the direct $D_s^{\pm} \to ν_τ/{\overline ν}_τ$ and chain $D_s^{\pm} \to τ^+/τ^- \to ν_τ/{\overline ν}_τ$ decays in $p\!+^{96}\!\mathrm{Mo}$ scattering with proton beam $E_{\mathrm{lab}}$ = 400 GeV \textit{i.e.} at $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$ = 27.4 GeV. The $τ$ decays are simulated with the help of the \textsc{Tauola} code and include multiple decay channels of $τ$ in amounts proportional to their branching ratios. In our calculations we include $D_s^{\p…
We use an effective operator framework to study the contributions to the Tevatron t tbar asymmetry from arbitrary vector bosons and scalars, and compare with their effect on the t tbar tail at LHC. Our study shows, for example, that models reproducing the t tbar asymmetry by exchange of Z' and W' bosons or colour-triplet scalars lead to a large enhancement in the t tbar tail at LHC. This fact can be used to exclude these models as the sole explanation for the asymmetry, using the data already collected by CMS and ATLAS. Our analysis is model independent in the sense that we scan over all possi…
The sensitivity of proton-induced $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ production to the possible $\bar u/\bar d$ asymmetry in the nucleon is studied. The ratio of the quarkonium production cross sections at large $x_F$ on hydrogen over deuterium targets, $σ(p+p) / σ(p+d)$, is shown to be sensitive to this asymmetry. Predictions of various theoretical models for this ratio are presented.
SHiP is a new general purpose fixed target experiment at the CERN SPS designed to complement LHC experiments in the search for new physics. In its initial phase, the $400$ GeV proton beam extracted from the SPS will be dumped on a heavy target with the aim of integrating $2\times10^{20}$ pot in 5 years. Shielded by an active muon shield, a dedicated detector, based on a long decay volume followed by a spectrometer and particle identification detectors, will allow probing a variety of models with light long-lived exotic particles with masses below $\mathcal{O}(10)\; \mathrm{GeV}/{c^2}$. The mai…
The sensitivity of $W$ and $Z$ production at RHIC to the possible $\bar u/\bar d$ asymmetry in the proton is studied. The ratios of the $W^+$ over $W^-$ production cross sections in $p + p$ collision, as well as the ratios of the $W^+$ and $Z$ production cross sections for $p + p$ over $p + d$ collisions, are shown to be sensitive to this asymmetry. Predictions of various theoretical models for these ratios are presented.
We propose a means to detect the nucleon strange quark-antiquark asymmetry, which is predicted as a non-perturbative effect, but still unchecked directly by available experiments. The difference for the $D(c\bar{q})$ and $\bar{D}(\bar{c}q)$ meson production cross sections in neutrino and antineutrino induced charged current deep inelastic scattering is illustrated to be sensitive to the nucleon strange asymmetry. Prospect is given and the effect due to the light quark fragmentation is also discussed for the extraction of the strange asymmetry in future experiments.
We point out that QCD coherence effects can help to identify the colour structure of possible new physics contributions to the anomalously large forward-backward asymmetry in top quark pair production. New physics models that yield the same inclusive asymmetry make different predictions for its dependence on the transverse momentum of the pair, if they have different colour structures. From both a fixed-order effective field theory approach and Monte Carlo studies of specific models, we find that an s-channel octet structure is preferred.
The SM predicts zero value for {\bf CP} \& {\bf T} violation in the decays of $τ$ leptons -- except $τ^- \to νK_S [π^-/π^-π^0 ...]$. Our community could establish impact of New Dynamics (ND) in a {\bf CP} asymmetry in a semi-hadronic $τ$ transition and later in a second one. To be `practical', I suggest to our experimental colleagues to probe $τ^- \to ν\bar K^0 [π^-/π^-π^0/π^-η]$and $τ^- \to νK^-[π^0/π^+π^-/η]$. While I had mostly given comments about {\bf CP} violation in $τ$ transitions, some theorists have shown how ND models could produce {\bf CP} asymmetries; I will discuss these ones, al…
We investigate the issue of how accurately we can constrain the lepton number asymmetry xi_nu = mu_nu/T_nu in the Universe by using future observations of 21 cm line fluctuations and cosmic microwave background (CMB). We find that combinations of the 21 cm line and the CMB observations can constrain the lepton asymmetry better than big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). Additionally, we also discuss constraints on xi_nu in the presence of some extra radiation, and show that the 21 cm line observations can substantially improve the constraints obtained by CMB alone, and allow us to distinguish the eff…
We study the single transverse-spin asymmetry for the inclusive open-charm production in the pp-collision, p^\uparrow p\to DX, induced by the three-gluon correlation functions in the polarized nucleon. We derive the corresponding twist-3 cross section formula in the leading order with respect to the QCD coupling constant. As in the case of the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, ep^\uparrow\to eDX, our result differs from the previous result in the literature. We also derive a "master formula" which expresses the twist-3 cross section in terms of the gg\to c\bar{c} hard scattering cross …
We propose an unified model of dark matter and baryon asymmetry in a lepto-philic world above the electroweak scale. We provide an example where the inflaton decay products subsequently generate a lepton asymmetry and a dark matter abundance with an unique coupling in the early universe, while the present day decay of the dark matter through the same coupling gives rise the observed cosmic ray anomalies at PAMELA and Fermi Large Area Telescope.
We calculate the double spin asymmetry A_LL(x, y, z, P_hT) of pi^0 production with the spectator model and the model based on the factorization ansatz. We also calculate the double spin asymmetry for the integration over the range of (x,y,z) for the setups of the experiments of COMPASS, HERMES, and JLab. We find that the results are characteristically dependent on the model used. Therefore, we suggest that the measurements of the double spin asymmetry provides a method of experimentally probing the transeverse momentum dependent distributions.
Possible anomalous top-quark couplings induced by SU(2) x U(1) gauge-invariant dimension-6 effective operators were studied in the process of t t-bar productions and decays at polarized gamma gamma colliders. Two CP-violating asymmetries, a linear-polarization asymmetry and a circular-polarization asymmetry, were computed including both non-standard [t t-bar gamma] and [gamma gamma H] couplings. An optimal-observable analysis for the process gamma gamma --> t t-bar --> l^{+-} ... was performed in order to estimate the precision for determination of all relevant non-standard couplings, includin…
A sizable $\cos 4ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in exclusive di-pion production near $ρ^0$ resonance peak in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions recently has been reported by STAR collaboration. We show that both elliptic gluon Wigner distribution and final state soft photon radiation can give rise to this azimuthal asymmetry. The fact that the QED effect alone severely underestimates the observed asymmetry might signal the existence of the nontrivial correlation in quantum phase distribution of gluons.
The orbital angular momentum is one of the least understood of the spin characteristics of a proton. There are no direct ways to model the orbital angular momentum. However, the Jz=1/2 sum rule includes an angular momentum component and can provide indirect access to its properties. One of the other unknowns in the sum rule is the gluon polarization. We can define the gluon spin asymmetry in a proton as the ratio of the polarized to unpolarized gluon distributions. This can be written as a sum of a scale-invariant piece and a small scale-dependent term. The x-dependence of the asymmetry can be…
We study the decay rate of process B->K l+ l- (l=e,mu) and some of its other related observables, like forward backward asymmetry (A_{FB}), polarization asymmetry (PA) and CP-asymmetry (A_{CP}) in R-parity violating (R_{p}) Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The analysis shows that R_{p}Yukawa coupling products contribute significantly to the branching fraction of B->K l+ l- within 1 sigma and 2 sigma. Study shows that PA and A_{FB} are sensitive enough to R_{p}Yukawa coupling products and turn out to be good predictions for measurement in future experiments. The CP-asymmetry calcula…
We study the model with three right-handed neutrinos which masses are smaller than the weak scale ${\cal O}(10^2)$ GeV (called as the $ν$MSM). The model can explain the origin of neutrino masses by the seesaw mechanism, offer a candidate of dark matter and realize the baryogenesis via neutrino oscillation. The seesaw mechanism at such energy scales can induce phenomenon which are observable by experiments. As an example, we discuss the lepton universality of charged kaon decays in this model. It is shown that the heavy neutral leptons accounting for the neutrino masses and the cosmic baryon as…
A possible use of forward proton tagging detectors at the LHC in the context of heavy ion interactions is discussed. It is shown that signals registered in such detectors are sensitive to the geometry of the collision. A method of the impact parameter and the collision asymmetry reconstruction on the event-by-event basis is proposed and its performance is studied with Monte Carlo simulations.

The B -> K^* l^+ l^- (l = mu, tau) is analyzed in a minimally extended Standard Model in which the Wilson coefficients have new CP-odd phases. The sensitivity of the CP asymmetry and lepton polarization asymmetries to the new phases is discussed. It is found that the CP asymmetry is sensitive to the new phase in the Wilson coefficient C_7 whereas the normal lepton polarization asymmetry is sensitive to the phase in the Wilson coefficient C_(10). Additionally, the correlation between the CP and normal lepton polarization asymmetries is studied. A simultaneous measurement of these two asymmetrie…
We study the physical properties of the persistent charged current in a metal ring on a noncommutative phase space, and temperature dependence of the noncommutative corrections are also analyzed. We find that the coordinate noncommutativity only affects the total magnitude of the current, and it is difficult to observe it. In contrast, the momentum noncommutativity can violate symmetry property of the current, and this violation of symmetry holds at a finite temperature. Based on this violation effect, we introduce an asymmetry observable to measure the momentum noncommutativity.
We show that the polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process is ideal to probe the pretzelosity distribution ($h_{1T}^\perp$), which is one of the new transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions of the nucleon. We present predictions of the $\cos(2ϕ+ ϕ_a - ϕ_b)$ asymmetry in the transversely polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process at PAX kinematics and find that the results are significantly larger compared with those of the $\sin(3ϕ_h - ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process at HERMES, COMPASS, and JLab kinematics. We conclude that the $\cos(2ϕ+…
We propose a new method for measuring the top-quark width based on the on-/off-shell ratio of $b$-charge asymmetry in $pp\to Wbj$ production at the LHC. The charge asymmetry removes virtually all backgrounds and related uncertainties, while remaining systematic and theoretical uncertainties can be taken under control by the ratio of cross sections. Limited only by statistical error, in an optimistic scenario, we find that our approach leads to good precision at high integrated luminosity, at a few hundred MeV assuming 300-3000 fb$^{-1}$ at the LHC. The approach directly probes the total width,…
In a topcolor-assisted technicolor model (TC2) with large FCNC top quark couplings, we study its correlated contributions to the top quark forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) at the Tevatron, the top charge asymmetry ($A_{C}$) and the triple-top production at the LHC. Under current constraints on the top quark from the LHC and Tevatron(such as the total and differential production rates), we scan the parameter space of such a TC2 model. We find that in the allowed parameter space the TC2 model can explain the Tevatron measured $A_{FB}$ at $2σ$ level, but meanwhile significantly enhance $A_{C…
We study the prospect of probing electroweak baryogenesis driven by an extra bottom Yukawa coupling $ρ_{bb}$ in a general two Higgs doublet model via electric dipole moment (EDM) measurements and at the collider experiments. The parameter space receives meaningful constraints from 125 GeV Higgs $h$ boson signal strength measurements as well as several heavy Higgs boson searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In addition, we show that the asymmetry of the CP asymmetry of inclusive $B\to X_s γ$ decay would provide complementary probe. A discovery is possible at the LHC via $bg\to bA \to b Z…
The Standard Model accompanied with two right-handed neutrinos with the masses below the weak scale can explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. Moreover, this model is at least partially testable in the forthcoming experiments such as NA62, SHiP, and MATHUSLA. The remarkable progress in understanding of various rates entering the kinetic equations describing the asymmetry generation along with considerable improvements of the numerical procedures allow us to perform a comprehensive analysis of the parameter space of the model. We find that the region of parameters leading to the…
We discuss new physics that can show up in the $τ^+τ^-$ production process at the LHC but not in the dimuon or the dielectron channels. We consider three different generic possibilities: a new resonance in the Drell-Yan process in the form of a non-universal $Z^\prime$; a new non-resonant contribution to $q\bar{q}\to τ^+τ^-$ in the form of leptoquarks; and contributions from gluon fusion due to effective lepton gluonic couplings. We emphasize the use of the charge asymmetry both to discover new physics and to distinguish between different possibilities
Precision studies of top quark properties are currently underway at the LHC and Tevatron colliders with the prospect of probing anomalous t-W -b interactions. In the mean time, recent experimental results for the B_{d,s} - \bar{B}_{d,s} oscillation observables, the branching ratio B_s->μ^+μ^-, as well as the forward - backward asymmetry in B->K\starl^+l^-, accompanied by the accurate theoretical predictions for the relevant observables obtained within the SM motivate a combined study of these observables in the presence of anomalous t - W - b vertices. We investigate contributions of such anom…
We calculate the branching ratio of $B\to J/Ψπ^{0}$ with a mixed formalism that combines the QCD-improved factorization and the perturbative QCD approaches. The result is consistent with experimental data. The quite small penguin contribution in $B\to J/Ψπ^{0}$ decay can be calculated with this method. We suggest two methods to extract the weak phase $β$. One is through the dependence of the mixing induced CP asymmetry $S_{J/Ψπ^{0}}$ on the weak phase$β$, the other is from the relation of the total asymmetry $A_{CP}$ with the weak phase $β$. Our result shows that the deviation $ \bigtriangleup…
We present a recent calculation of the single spin asymmetry in inclusive photoproducton of $J/ψ$ at the future EIC, that can be used to probe the gluon Sivers function.
In this paper we probe the Sivers asymmetries through $\rm J/ψ$ photoproduction in $\rm p^\uparrow p$ collision within the non-relativistic QCD framework, based on color octet model and the Transverse Momentum Dependent Parton Distributions (TMDs). Both the DGLAP evolution and the TMD evolution are included. The intensity and the sign of the Sivers asymmetry is strongly related on evolution model used to investigate the Gluon Sivers Function (GSF). A sizable asymmetry is obtained as a function of the rapidity, $\rm log{(x_γ)}$ or $\rm log{(x_{g})}$ dependence using a recent parametrization of …
We explore direct collider probes of the resonant leptogenesis mechanism for the origin of matter. We work in the context of theories where the Standard Model is extended to include an additional gauged U(1) symmetry broken at the TeV scale, and where the light neutrinos obtain mass through a Type I seesaw at this scale. The CP asymmetry that generates the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry manifests itself in a difference between the number of positive and negative like-sign dileptons N(\ell^+\ell^+)-N(\ell^-\ell^-) that arise in the decay of the new Z' gauge boson to two right-handed neutr…
The neutrinoless double beta decay and the direct dark matter detection experiments probe the origins of the two greatest mysteries of the universe, i.e. the baryon asymmetry and the invisible or dark matter. The underlying theoretical ideas are briefly discussed along with the experimental prospects.
The charge asymmetry in hadronic top-antitop-quark production is a powerful test observable of perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Since its origin in terms of Feynman diagrams is distinct from charge-symmetric top-antitop production, probing the charge asymmetry provides complementary information to cross section measurements. Furthermore, asymmetric observables offer new ways to distinguish new physics beyond the standard model. This article summarizes prospects to investigate the top-quark charge asymmetry at the LHC in and beyond the standard model. Particular attention is given to observ…
We explore signatures of large extra dimensions with a polarized electron/positrn beam at the Joint Linear Collider (JLC). We point out that spin informations can be useful to study indirect signals for large extra dimensions due to spin-2 nature of Kaluza-Klein gravitons. The spin configurations of the top quark pair production at $e^+ e^-$ and $γγ$ collisions provide an unique testing ground to search for effects of the large extra dimensions. Especially we show the forward-backward asymmetry is a good probe at $e^+ e^- \to t \bar{t}$ process and we can define a new asymmetry observable effe…
We investigate a dark sector containing a pair of light non-degenerate scalar particles, with masses in the MeV-GeV range, coupled to the visible sector through heavier mediators. The heaviest dark state is long-lived, and its decays offer new testable signals. We analyze the prospects for detection with the proposed beam-dump facility SHiP, and the proposed LHC experiments FASER and MATHUSLA. Moreover, we consider bounds from the beam-dump experiment CHARM and from colliders (LEP, LHC and BaBar). We present our results both in terms of an effective field theory, where the heavy mediators have…
We propose a new measurement of the heavy flavor hadron double spin asymmetry in deep-inelastic scattering at a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) to constrain the polarized gluon distribution function inside the proton. Statistical projection on $D^0$ meson double spin asymmetry is calculated with an EIC central detector using an all-silicon tracker and vertexing subsystem. A first impact study was done by interpreting pseudo-data at next-to-leading order in QCD. The sensitivity of the experimental observable in constraining gluon helicity distribution in a wide range of parton momentum fract…
We analyze rare charm baryon decays within the standard model and beyond. We identify all null test observables in unpolarized $Λ_c \to p \ell^+ \ell^-$, $\ell=e, μ$ decays, and study the new physics sensitivities. We find that the longitudinal dilepton polarization fraction $F_L$ is sensitive to electromagnetic dipole couplings $C_{7}^{(\prime)}$, and to the right-handed 4-fermion vector coupling $C_{9}^\prime$. The forward-backward asymmetry, $A_{\rm FB}$, due to the GIM-suppression a standard model null test already, probes the left-handed axialvector 4-fermion coupling $C_{10}$; its CP-asy…
The conjoined production at the LHC of single top and Higgs boson via $t$-channel weak boson exchange is ideal to probe the top-quark Yukawa coupling, due to a delicate cancellation between the amplitudes with the $htt$ and the $hWW$ couplings. We find that the top quark is produced with $100\%$ polarization in the leading order, and its quantum state is determined by the spin-vector direction in the $t$-quark rest frame. We relate the spin direction to the four-momenta of the top, Higgs and a jet in the helicity amplitude framework. We identify a polarization asymmetry that is sensitive to CP…
Polarized $Λ_b \to Λγ$ decays at the Z pole are shown to be well suited for probing a large variety of New Physics effects. A new observable is proposed, the angular asymmetry between the $Λ_b$ spin and photon momentum, which is sensitive to the relative strengths of the opposite chirality and Standard Model chirality $b \to s γ$ dipole operators. Combination with the $Λ$ decay polarization asymmetry and comparison with the $Λ_b$ polarization extracted from semileptonic decays allows important tests of the $V-A$ structure of the Standard Model. Modifications of the rates and angular asymmetrie…
We study the constraints on the contribution of new physics in the form of scalar/pseudoscalar operators to the average forward backward asymmetry <A_{FB}> of muons in B --> K mu+ mu- and the longitudinal polarization asymmetry A_{LP} of muons in B_s --> mu+ mu-. We find that the maximum possible value of <A_{FB}> allowed by the present upper bound on B(B_s --> mu+ mu-) is about 1% at 95% C.L. and hence will be very difficult to measure. On the other hand, the present bound on B(B_s --> mu+ mu-) fails to put any constraints on A_{LP}, which can be as high as 100% even if B(B_s --> mu+ mu-) is …
We discuss the potential of observing effects of CP-violation phases in squark decay chains at the LHC. As the CP-odd observable, we use the asymmetry composed by triple products of final state momenta. There are good prospects of observing these effects using the method of kinematic reconstruction for the final and intermediate state particles. We also discuss the main experimental factors and the expected sensitivity.
In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the μ-parameter and the trilinear coupling A_t may be generically complex and can affect various observables at B factories. Imposing the edm constraints, we find that there is no new large phase shift in the B^0 - \bar{B^0} mixing, CP violating dilepton asymmetry is smaller than 0.1 %, and the direct CP violation in B\to X_s γcan be as large as \sim \pm 16 %.
The extension of the Standard Model by heavy right-handed neutrinos can simultaneously explain the observed neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe via leptogenesis. If the mass of the heavy neutrinos is below the electroweak scale, they may be found at the LHC, BELLE II, NA62, the proposed SHiP experiment or a future high-energy collider. In this mass range, the baryon asymmetry is generated via CP-violating oscillations of the heavy neutrinos during their production. We study the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe in this scenario fro…
We compute 10 radiative three-body decays of charged charmed mesons $D^+ \to P^+ P^0 γ$ and $D_s \to P^+ P^0 γ$, $P=π, K$, in leading order QCDF, HH$χ$PT and the soft photon approximation. We work out decay distributions and asymmetries in the standard model and with new physics in the electromagnetic dipole operators. The forward-backward asymmetry is suitable to probe the QCD frameworks, in particular the $s$-channel dependent weak annihilation contributions in QCDF against the markedly different resonance structure in HH$χ$PT. These studies can be performed with Cabibbo-favored modes $D_s \…
We investigate methods to explore the CP nature of the $ t\bar{t}h $ coupling at the LHC, focusing on associated production of the Higgs with a $t \bar{t}$ pair. We first discuss the constraints implied by low-energy observables and by the Higgs-rate information from available LHC data, emphasizing that they cannot provide conclusive evidence on the nature of this coupling. We then investigate kinematic observables that could probe the $ t\bar{t}h $ coupling directly, in particular quantities that can be constructed out of just lab-frame kinematics. We define one such observable by exploiting …
