Probing Geometry of Ion-Ion Collisions with Roman Pot Detectors

Project to install roman pot detectors at 220 m in ATLAS

We give a short description of the project to install roman pot detectors at 220 m from the interaction point in ATLAS. This project is dedicated to hard diffractive measurements at high luminosity.

The ALFA Roman Pot Detectors of ATLAS

The ATLAS Roman Pot system is designed to determine the total proton-proton cross-section as well as the luminosity at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by measuring elastic proton scattering at very small angles. The system is made of four Roman Pot stations, located in the LHC tunnel in a distance of about 240~m at both sides of the ATLAS interaction point. Each station is equipped with tracking detectors, inserted in Roman Pots which approach the LHC beams vertically. The tracking detectors consist of multi-layer scintillating fibre structures readout by Multi-Anode-Photo-Multipliers.

On the Possibility of Having Roman Pots around IP8 in Run 4 and Beyond

Proton trajectories along LHC beam 1 (clockwise direction) in the vicinity of the LHCb Interaction Point (IP8) for the most recent LHC Run 4 optics (HLLHC1.5) were presented. On this basis, three possible locations of forward proton detectors were identified: 150, 180 and 430 m from IP8. For these locations geometric acceptances were estimated. For the proton relative energy loss, $ξ$, these limits are $0.05 < ξ\lesssim 0.1$, $0.025 < ξ\lesssim 0.1$ and $0.003 < ξ< 0.013$, respectively. LHC Optics Measurement with Proton Tracks Detected by the Roman Pots of the TOTEM Experiment

Precise knowledge of the beam optics at the LHC is crucial to fulfil the physics goals of the TOTEM experiment, where the kinematics of the scattered protons is reconstructed with the near-beam telescopes -- so-called Roman Pots (RP). Before being detected, the protons' trajectories are influenced by the magnetic fields of the accelerator lattice. Results on Total and Elastic Cross Sections in Proton-Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV Obtained with the STAR Detector at RHIC

We report the first results on differential, total and elastic cross sections in proton-proton collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. The data lwere obtained with the Roman Pot Detector subsystem of the STAR experiment. The data used for this analysis cover the four-momentum transfer squared ~($t$) range $ 0.045 \le |t| \le 0.135$ (GeV/c)$^2$. The Roman Pot system was placed downstream of the STAR detector.
