The unitary Cayley graph of $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$, denoted $X_n$, is the graph on $\{0,\dots,n-1\}$ where vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if and only if $\gcd(a-b,n) = 1$. We answer a question of Defant and Iyer by constructing a family of infinitely many integers $n$ such that $γ_t(X_n) \leq g(n) - 2$, where $γ_t$ denotes the total domination number and $g$ denotes the Jacobsthal function. We determine the irredundance number, domination number, and lower independence number of certain direct products of complete graphs and give bounds for these parameters for any direct product of complete graphs. We provide upper bounds on the size of irredundant sets in direct products of balanced, complete multipartite graphs which are asymptotically correct for the unitary Cayley graphs of integers with a bounded smallest prime factor.
Using the domination parameters of Cayley graphs constructed out of $\mathbb{Z}_{p}\times \mathbb{Z}_{m}$, where $m\in\{p^α, p^αq^β, p^αq^βr^γ\},$ in this paper we are discussing about the total and connected domination number and diameter of these Cayley graphs.
A signed dominating function of graph $Γ$ is a function $g :V(Γ) \longrightarrow \{-1,1\}$ such that $\sum_{u \in N[v]}g(u) >0$ for each $v \in V(Γ)$. The signed domination number $γ_{_S}(Γ)$ is the minimum weight of a signed dominating function on $Γ$. Let $G=\langle S \rangle$ be a finite group such that $e \not\in S=S^{-1}$. In this paper, we obtain the signed domination number of $Cay(S:G)$ based on cardinality of $S$. Also we determine the classification of group $G$ by $|S|$ and $γ_{_S}(Cay(S:G))$.
In this paper we compute bounds for signless Laplacian energy, distance signless Laplacian eigenvalues and signless Laplacian energy of unitary addition Cayley graph G_{n}. We also obtain distance Laplacian eigenvalues and distance Laplacian energy of G_{n}.
The $k$-rainbow domination problem is studied for regular graphs. We prove that the $k$-rainbow domination number $γ_{rk}(G)$ of a $d$-regular graph for $d\leq k\leq 2d$ is bounded below by $\displaystyle{\left\lceil kn/2d\right\rceil}$, where $n$ is the order of a graph. We determine necessary conditions for regular graphs to attain this bound and find several examples. As an application, we determine exact $k$-rainbow domination numbers for all cubic Cayley graphs over abelian groups.
An integer distance digraph is the Cayley graph $Γ(\mathbb{Z},S)$ of the additive group $\mathbb{Z}$ of all integers with respect to some finite subset $S \subseteq \mathbb{Z}$. The domination ratio of $Γ(\mathbb{Z},S)$ is the minimum density of a dominating set in $Γ(\mathbb{Z},S)$. We establish some basic results on the domination ratio of $Γ(\mathbb{Z},S)$ and precisely determine it when $S=\{s,t\}$ with $s$ dividing $t$.
If $X$ is a commutative ring with unity, then the unitary Cayley graph of $X$, denoted $G_X$, is defined to be the graph whose vertex set is $X$ and whose edge set is $\{\{a,b\}\colon a-b\in X^\times\}$. When $R$ is a Dedekind domain and $I$ is an ideal of $R$ such that $R/I$ is finite and nontrivial, we refer to $G_{R/I}$ as a \emph{generalized totient graph}. We study generalized totient graphs as generalizations of the graphs $G_{\mathbb{Z}/(n)}$, which have appeared recently in the literature, sometimes under the name \emph{Euler totient Cayley graphs}. We begin by generalizing to Dedekind…
Rubalcaba and Slater (Robert R. Rubalcaba and Peter J. Slater. Efficient (j,k)-domination. Discuss. Math. Graph Theory, 27(3):409-423, 2007.) define a $(j,k)$-dominating function on graph $X$ as a function $f:V(X)\rightarrow \{0,\ldots,j\}$ so that for each $v\in V(X)$, $f(N[v])\geq k$, where $N[v]$ is the closed neighbourhood of $v$. Such a function is efficient if all of the vertex inequalities are met with equality. They give a simple necessary condition for efficient domination, namely: if $X$ is an $r$-regular graph on $n$ vertices that has an efficient $(1,k)$-dominating function, then t…
We prove that the Cayley graphs $X(G,S)$ and $X^+(G,S)$ are equienergetic for any abelian group $G$ and any symmetric subset $S$. We then focus on the family of unitary Cayley graphs $G_R=X(R,R^*)$, where $R$ is a finite commutative ring with identity. We show that under mild conditions, $\{G_R, G_R^+\}$ are pairs of integral equienergetic non-isospectral graphs (generically connected and non-bipartite). Then, we obtain conditions such that $\{G_R, \bar G_R\}$ are equienergetic non-isospectral graphs. Finally, we characterize all integral equienergetic non-isospectral triples $\{G_R, G_R^+, \b…
We show there is an uncountable number of parallel total perfect codes in the integer lattice graph $Λ$ of $\R^2$. In contrast, there is just one 1-perfect code in $Λ$ and one total perfect code in $Λ$ restricting to total perfect codes of rectangular grid graphs (yielding an asymmetric, Penrose, tiling of the plane). We characterize all cycle products $C_m\times C_n$ with parallel total perfect codes, and the $d$-perfect and total perfect code partitions of $Λ$ and $C_m\times C_n$, the former having as quotient graph the undirected Cayley graphs of $\Z_{2d^2+2d+1}$ with generator set $\{1,2d^…
The purpose of this paper is to study spectral properties of a family of Cayley graphs on finite commutative rings. Let $R$ be such a ring and $R^\times$ its set of units. Let $Q_R=\{u^2: u\in R^\times\}$ and $T_R=Q_R\cup(-Q_R)$. We define the quadratic unitary Cayley graph of $R$, denoted by $\mathcal{G}_R$, to be the Cayley graph on the additive group of $R$ with respect to $T_R$; that is, $\mathcal{G}_R$ has vertex set $R$ such that $x, y \in R$ are adjacent if and only if $x-y\in T_R$. It is well known that any finite commutative ring $R$ can be decomposed as $R=R_1\times R_2\times\cdots\t…
Let $G$ be a Cayley graph of the elementary abelian $2$-group $\mathbb{Z}_2^{n}$ with respect to a set $S$ of size $d$. We prove that for any such $G, S$ and $d$, the maximum degree of any induced subgraph of $G$ on any set of more than half the vertices is at least $\sqrt d$. This is deduced from the recent breakthrough result of Huang who proved the above for the $n$-hypercube $Q^n$, in which the set of generators $S$ is the set of all vectors of Hamming weight $1$. Motivated by his method we define and study unitary signings of adjacency matrices of graphs, and compare them to the orthogona…
The unitary Cayley graph of $\mathbb{Z} /n \mathbb{Z}$, denoted $X_{\mathbb{Z} / n \mathbb{Z}}$, has vertices $0,1, \dots, n-1$ with $x$ adjacent to $y$ if $x-y$ is relatively prime to $n$. We present results on the tightness of the known inequality $γ(X_{\mathbb{Z} / n \mathbb{Z}})\leq γ_t(X_{\mathbb{Z} / n \mathbb{Z}})\leq g(n)$, where $γ$ and $γ_t$ denote the domination number and total domination number, respectively, and $g$ is the arithmetic function known as Jacobsthal's function. In particular, we construct integers $n$ with arbitrarily many distinct prime factors such that $γ(X_{\math…
Dariush Kiani et al.\cite{kiani2015unitary} claim to have found the unitary Cayley graph $Cay(M_{n}(F),GL_{n}(F))$ of matrix algebras over finite field $F$ is strongly regular only when $n=2$, but they have only considered two special cases, namely when $n = 2$ and $3$ and have failed to cover the general cases. In this paper, we prove that the unitary Cayley graph of matrix algebras over finite field $F$ is strongly regular if and only if $n=2$.
In this paper, we determine an explicit formula for the number of walks in $X_n = \textsf{Cay}(\mathbb{Z}_n,\mathbb{U}_n)$, the unitary Cayley Graphs of order $n$, between any pair of its vertices. With this result, we give the number of representations of a fixed residue class $\bmod{}n$ as the sum of $k$ units of $\mathbb{Z}_n$.
A digraph D is the pattern of a matrix M when D has an arc ij if and only if the ij-th entry of M is nonzero. Study the relationship between unitary matrices and their patterns is motivated by works in quantum chaology and quantum computation. In this note, we prove that if a Cayley digraph is a line digraph then it is the pattern of a unitary matrix. We prove that for any finite group with two generators there exists a set of generators such that the Cayley digraph with respect to such a set is a line digraph and hence the pattern of a unitary matrix.
An integer distance digraph is the Cayley graph $Γ(\mathbb{Z},S)$ of the additive group $\mathbb{Z}$ of all integers with respect to a finite subset $S\subseteq\mathbb{Z}$. The domination ratio of $Γ(\mathbb{Z},S)$, defined as the minimum density of its dominating sets, is related to some number theory problems, such as tiling the integers and finding the maximum density of a set of integers with missing differences. We precisely determine the domination ratio of the integer distance graph $Γ(\mathbb{Z},\{1,2,\ldots,d-2,s\})$ for any integers $d$ and $s$ satisfying $d\ge2$ and $s\notin[0,d-2]$…
We present some observations on a restricted variant of unitary Cayley graphs modulo n, and the implications for a decomposition of elements of symplectic operators over the integers modulo n. We define quadratic unitary Cayley graphs G_n, whose vertex set is the ring Z_n, and where residues a, b modulo n are adjacent if and only if their difference is a quadratic residue. By bounding the diameter of such graphs, we show an upper bound on the number of elementary operations (symplectic scalar multiplications, symplectic row swaps, and row additions or subtractions) required to decompose a symp…
Let $X_{n}$ denote the unitary Cayley graph of $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$. We continue the study of cases in which the inequality $γ_t(X_n) \le g(n)$ is strict, where $γ_t$ denotes the total domination number, and $g$ is the arithmetic function known as Jacobsthal's function. The best that is currently known in this direction is a construction of Burcroff which gives a family of $n$ with arbitrarily many prime factors that satisfy $γ_t(X_n) \le g(n)-2$. We present a new interpretation of the problem which allows us to use recent results on the computation of Jacobsthal's function to construct $n…
Let $R$ be a finite commutative ring. The unitary Cayley graph of $R$, denoted $G_R$, is the graph with vertex set $R$ and edge set ${{a,b}:a,b\in R, a-b\in R^\times}$, where $R^\times$ is the set of units of $R$. An $r$-regular graph is Ramanujan if the absolute value of every eigenvalue of it other than $\pm r$ is at most $2\sqrt{r-1}$. In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $G_R$ to be Ramanujan, and a necessary and sufficient condition for the complement of $G_R$ to be Ramanujan. We also determine the energy of the line graph of $G_R$, and compute the spectral momen…
In this paper we study the length of the longest induced cycle in the unitary Cayley graph $X_n = Cay(\mathbb Z_n; U_n)$, where $U_n$ is the group of units in $\mathbb Z_n$. Using residues modulo the primes dividing $n$, we introduce a representation of the vertices that reduces the problem to a purely combinatorial question of comparing strings of symbols. This representation allows us to prove that the multiplicity of each prime dividing $n$, and even the value of each prime (if sufficiently large) has no effect on the length of the longest induced cycle in $X_n$. We also see that if $n$ has…
A strong edge coloring of a graph $G$ is a proper edge coloring of $G$ such that every color class is an induced matching. The minimum number of colors required is termed the strong chromatic index. In this paper, we determine the exact value of the strong chromatic index of all unitary Cayley graphs. Our investigations reveal an underlying product structure from which the unitary Cayley graphs emerge. We then go on to give tight bounds for the strong chromatic index of the Cartesian product of two trees, including an exact formula for the product in the case of stars. Further, we give bounds …
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and let $U(R)$ be multiplicative group of unit elements of $R$. In 2012, Khashyarmanesh et al. defined generalized unit and unitary Cayley graph, $Γ(R, G, S)$, corresponding to a multiplicative subgroup $G$ of $U(R)$ and a non-empty subset $S$ of $G$ with $S^{-1}=\{s^{-1} \mid s\in S\}\subseteq S$, as the graph with vertex set $R$ and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if there exists $s\in S$ such that $x+sy \in G$. In this paper, we characterize all Artinian rings $R$ whose $Γ(R,U(R), S)$ is projective. This leads to determine all Artinia…
The unitary Cayley graph of $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$, denoted $G_{\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z}$, is the graph with vertices $0,1,\ldots,$ $n-1$ in which two vertices are adjacent if and only if their difference is relatively prime to $n$. These graphs are central to the study of graph representations modulo integers, which were originally introduced by Erdős and Evans. We give a brief account of some results concerning these beautiful graphs and provide a short proof of a simple formula for the number of cliques of any order $m$ in the unitary Cayley graph $G_{\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z}$. This formula invol…
Let $G$ be a finite abelian group, written additively, and $H$ a subgroup of~$G$. The \emph{subgroup sum graph} $Γ_{G,H}$ is the graph with vertex set $G$, in which two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are joined if $x+y\in H\setminus\{0\}$. These graphs form a fairly large class of Cayley sum graphs. Among cases which have been considered previously are the \emph{prime sum graphs}, in the case where $H=pG$ for some prime number $p$. In this paper we present their structure and a detailed analysis of their properties. We also consider the simpler graph $Γ^+_{G,H}$, which we refer to as the \emph{…
The concept of gcd-graphs is introduced by Klotz and Sander, which arises as a generalization of unitary Cayley graphs. The gcd-graph $X_n (d_1,...,d_k)$ has vertices $0,1,...,n-1$, and two vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent iff $\gcd(x-y,n)\in D = \{d_1,d_2,...,d_k\}$. These graphs are exactly the same as circulant graphs with integral eigenvalues characterized by So. In this paper we deal with the clique number of integral circulant graphs and investigate the conjecture proposed in \cite{klotz07} that clique number divides the number of vertices in the graph $X_n (D)$. We completely solve the…
We give necessary and sufficient conditions on the parameters of a regular graph $Γ$ (with or without loops) such that $E(Γ)=E(\overline Γ)$. We study complementary equienergetic cubic graphs obtaining classifications up to isomorphisms for connected cubic graphs with single loops (5 non-isospectral pairs) and connected integral cubic graphs without loops ($Γ= K_3 \square K_2$ or $Q_3$). Then we show that, up to complements, the only bipartite regular graphs equienergetic and non-isospectral with their complements are the crown graphs $Cr(n)$ or $C_4$. Next, for the family of strongly regular …
