We develop a set of tools for doing computations in and of (partially) wrapped Fukaya categories. In particular, we prove (1) a descent (cosheaf) property for the wrapped Fukaya category with respect to so-called Weinstein sectorial coverings and (2) that the partially wrapped Fukaya category of a Weinstein manifold with respect to a mostly Legendrian stop is generated by the cocores of the critical handles and the linking disks to the stop. We also prove (3) a `stop removal equals localization' result, and (4) that the Fukaya--Seidel category of a Lefschetz fibration with Liouville fiber is generated by the Lefschetz thimbles. These results are derived from three main ingredients, also of independent use: (5) a Künneth formula (6) an exact triangle in the Fukaya category associated to wrapping a Lagrangian through a Legendrian stop at infinity and (7) a geometric criterion for when a pushforward functor between wrapped Fukaya categories of Liouville sectors is fully faithful.
The aim of this paper is to identify the pong algebra defined in our earlier work with a certain endomorphism algebra in the wrapped Fukaya category of the symmetric product of a disk.
We define a new class of symplectic objects called "stops", which roughly speaking are Liouville hypersurfaces in the boundary of a Liouville domain. Locally, these can be viewed as pages of a compatible open book. To a Liouville domain with a collection of disjoint stops, we assign an $A_\infty$-category called its partially wrapped Fukaya category. An exact Landau-Ginzburg model gives rise to a stop, and the corresponding partially wrapped Fukaya category is meant to agree with the Fukaya category one is supposed to assign to the Landau-Ginzburg model. As evidence, we prove a formula that re…
We study wrapped Floer theory on product Liouville manifolds and prove that the wrapped Fukaya categories defined with respect to two different kinds of natural Hamiltonians and almost complex structures are equivalent. The implication is we can do quilted version of wrapped Floer theory, based on which we then construct functors between wrapped Fukaya categories of Liouville manifolds from certain classes of Lagrangian correspondences, by enlarging the wrapped Fukaya categories appropriately, allowing exact cylindrical Lagrangian immersions. For applications, we present a general Künneth form…
A class of partially wrapped Fukaya categories in $T^* N$ are proven to be well defined and then studied. In the case of $N$ diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^m \times \mathbb{T}^n$, it is shown that these categories provide homological mirrors to equivariant and non-equivariant categories of coherent sheaves on toric varieties. This gives a new Floer theoretic formulation of mirror symmetry in the non-complete case.
We introduce the wrapped Donaldson-Fukaya category of a (generalized) semi-toric SYZ fibration with Lagrangian section satisfying a tameness condition at infinity. Examples include the Gross fibration on the complement of an anti-canonical divisor in a toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold. We compute the wrapped Floer cohomology of a Lagrangian section and find that it is the algebra of functions on the Hori-Vafa mirror. The latter result is the key step in proving homological mirror symmetry for this case. The techniques developed here allow the construction in general of the wrapped Fukaya category on an…
We study two functors between (partially) wrapped Fukaya categories. The first is the Orlov functor from the Fukaya category of a stop to the Fukaya category of the ambient sector. We give a geometric criterion for when this functor is spherical in the sense of Anno-Logvinenko. This criterion is a generalization of the situation where the stop comes from a Landau-Ginzburg model. The second functor is the Viterbo transfer map from a Liouville domain to a subdomain. We show that when the domain and subdomain are independently Weinstein, this functor is a homological epimorphism, which means that…
We study Lagrangian correspondences between Liouville manifolds and construct functors between wrapped Fukaya categories. The study naturally brings up the question on comparing two versions of wrapped Fukaya categories of the product manifold, which we prove quasi-isomorphism on the level of wrapped Floer cohomology. To prove representability of these functors constructed from Lagrangian correspondences, we introduce the geometric compositions of Lagrangian correspondences under wrapping, as new classes of objects in the wrapped Fukaya category, which we prove to represent the functors by est…
We introduce an $A_\infty$ map from the cubical chain complex of the based loop space of Lagrangian submanifolds with Legendrian boundary in a Liouville Manifold $C_{*}(Ω_{L} \mathcal{L}\mathit{ag})$ to wrapped Floer cohomology of Lagrangian submanifold $\mathcal{CW}^{-*}(L,L)$. In the case of a cotangent bundle and a Lagrangian co-fiber, the composition of our map with a previously constructed map from $\mathcal{CW}^*(L,L) \to C_{*}(Ω_q Q) $ shows that this map is split surjective.
We build the wrapped Fukaya category W(E) for any monotone symplectic manifold, convex at infinity. We define the open-closed and closed open-string maps. We study their algebraic properties and prove that the string maps are compatible with the eigenvalue splitting of W(E). We extend Abouzaid's generation criterion from the exact to the monotone setting. We construct an acceleration functor from the compact Fukaya category which on Hochschild (co)homology commutes with the string maps and the canonical map from quantum cohomology QH(E) to symplectic cohomology SH(E). We define the QH(E)- and …
Given an exact relatively Pin Lagrangian embedding Q in a symplectic manifold M, we construct an A-infinity restriction functor from the wrapped Fukaya category of M to the category of modules on the differential graded algebra of chains over the based loop space of Q. If M is the cotangent bundle of Q, this functor induces an A-infinity equivalence between the wrapped Floer cohomology of a cotangent fibre and the chains over the based loop space of Q, extending a result proved by Abbondandolo and Schwarz at the level of homology.
We study two kinds of functors of wrapped Fukaya categories: 1) the Viterbo restriction functor for an inclusion of a Liouville sub-domain; 2) the Lagrangian correspondence functor associated to the graph of the completion of the inclusion of the sub-domain, named the graph correspondence functor. We prove that these two functors agree on the sub-category where the Viterbo restriction functor is defined. We also extend the Viterbo restriction functor to the case of non-strongly-exact restrictions of Lagrangian submanifolds, which yields a natural object-wise deformation of the wrapped Fukaya c…
In this paper, we present partial results towards a classification of symplectic mapping tori using dynamical properties of wrapped Fukaya categories. More precisely, we construct a symplectic manifold $T_ϕ$ associated to a Weinstein domain $M$, and an exact, compactly supported symplectomorphism $ϕ$. $T_ϕ$ is another Weinstein domain and its contact boundary is independent of $ϕ$. In this paper, we distinguish $ϕ$ from $T_{1_M}$, under certain assumptions (Theorem 1.1). As an application, we obtain pairs of diffeomorphic Weinstein domains with the same contact boundary and whose symplectic co…
This paper constructs and studies the Rabinowitz (wrapped) Fukaya category, a categorical invariant of exact cylindrical Lagrangians in a Liouville manifold whose cohomological morphisms, ``Rabinowitz wrapped Floer homology groups" measure the failure of wrapped Floer cohomology to satisfy Poincare duality (and in particular vanish for any pair with at least one compact Lagrangian). Our main result, answering a conjecture of Abouzaid, relates the Rabinowitz and usual wrapped Fukaya category by way of a general construction introduced by Efimov, the categorical formal punctured neighborhood of …
Consider the wrapped Fukaya category W of a collection of exact Lagrangians in a Liouville manifold. Under a non-degeneracy condition implying the existence of enough Lagrangians, we show that natural geometric maps from the Hochschild homology of W to symplectic cohomology and from symplectic cohomology to the Hochschild cohomology of W are isomorphisms, in a manner compatible with ring and module structures. This is a consequence of a more general duality for the wrapped Fukaya category, which should be thought of as a non-compact version of a Calabi-Yau structure. The new ingredients are: (…
It follows from the work of Burban and Drozd arXiv:0905.1231 that for nodal curves $C$, the derived category of modules over the Auslander order $\mathcal{A}_C$ provides a categorical (smooth and proper) resolution of the category of perfect complexes $\mathrm{Perf}(C)$. On the A-side, it follows from the work of Haiden-Katzarkov-Kontsevich arXiv:1409.8611 that for punctured surfaces $X$ with stops $Λ$ at their boundary, the partially wrapped Fukaya category $\mathcal{W}(X,Λ)$ provides a categorical (smooth and proper) resolution of the compact Fukaya category $\mathcal{F}(X)$. Inspired by thi…
In this paper, we construct a Fukaya category of any infinite type surface whose objects are gradient sectorial Lagrangians. This class of Lagrangian submanifolds is introduced by one of the authors in [Oh21b] which can serve as an object of a Fukaya category of any Liouville manifold that admits an exhausting proper Morse function, in particular on the Riemann surface of infinite type. We describe a generating set of the Fukaya category in terms of the end structure of the surface when the surface has countably many limit points in its ideal boundary, the latter of which can be described in t…
In all known explicit computations on Weinstein manifolds, the self-wrapped Floer homology of non-compact exact Lagrangian is always either infinite-dimensional or zero. We show that a global variant of this observed phenomenon holds in broad generality: the wrapped Fukaya category of any positive-dimensional Weinstein (or non-degenerate Liouville) manifold is always either non-proper or zero, as is any quotient thereof. Moreover any non-compact connected exact Lagrangian is always either a "(both left and right) non-proper object" or zero in such a wrapped Fukaya category, as is any idempoten…
This is the first of a series of two articles where we construct a version of wrapped Fukaya category $\mathcal W\mathcal F(M\setminus K;H_{g_0})$ of the cotangent bundle $T^*(M \setminus K)$ of the knot complement $M \setminus K$ of a compact 3-manifold $M$, and do some calculation for the case of hyperbolic knots $K \subset M$. For the construction, we use the wrapping induced by the kinetic energy Hamiltonian $H_{g_0}$ associated to the cylindrical adjustment $g_0$ on $M \setminus K$ of a smooth metric $g$ defined on $M$. We then consider the torus $T = \partial N(K)$ as an object in this c…
Inspired by the geometry of wrapped Fukaya categories, we introduce the notion of wrapped microlocal sheaves. We show that traditional microlocal sheaves are equivalent to functionals on wrapped microlocal sheaves, in analogy with the expected relation of infinitesimal to wrapped Fukaya categories. As an application, we calculate wrapped microlocal sheaves on higher-dimensional pairs of pants, confirming expectations from mirror symmetry.
We study the Rouquier dimension of wrapped Fukaya categories of Liouville manifolds and pairs, and apply this invariant to various problems in algebraic and symplectic geometry. On the algebro-geometric side, we introduce a new method based on symplectic flexibility and mirror symmetry to bound the Rouquier dimension of derived categories of coherent sheaves on certain complex algebraic varieties and stacks. These bounds are sharp in dimension at most $3$. As a result, we resolve a well-known conjecture of Orlov for a large class of new examples, including all toric $3$-folds and certain log C…
The goal of these notes is to give a short introduction to Fukaya categories and some of their applications. The first half of the text is devoted to a brief review of Lagrangian Floer (co)homology and product structures. Then we introduce the Fukaya category (informally and without a lot of the necessary technical detail), and briefly discuss algebraic concepts such as exact triangles and generators. Finally, we mention wrapped Fukaya categories and outline a few applications to symplectic topology, mirror symmetry and low-dimensional topology. This text is based on a series of lectures given…
We construct a new cylinder object for semifree differential graded (dg) categories in the category of dg categories. Using this, we give a practical formula computing homotopy colimits of semifree dg categories. Combining it with the result of Ganatra, Pardon, and Shende, we get a formula computing wrapped Fukaya categories of Weinstein manifolds using their sectorial coverings. This formula has lots of applications including a practical computation of the wrapped Fukaya category of any cotangent bundle or plumbing space. In this paper, we compute wrapped Fukaya categories of cotangent bundle…
We prove that every spherical object in the derived Fukaya category of a closed surface of genus at least two whose Chern character represents a non-zero Hochschild homology class is quasi-isomorphic to a simple closed curve equipped with a rank one local system. (The homological hypothesis is necessary.) This largely answers a question of Haiden, Katzarkov and Kontsevich. It follows that there is a natural surjection from the autoequivalence group of the Fukaya category to the mapping class group. The proofs appeal to and illustrate numerous recent developments: quiver algebra models for wrap…
Fix a suitably convex, exact symplectic manifold M. We consider the stable oo-category Lag(M) of non-compact Lagrangians whose (higher) morphisms are (higher) Lagrangian cobordisms between them. We show that this oo-category pairs with the Fukaya category Fuk(M) of compact branes. In fact, we also show that there is a subcategory of Lag(M) which pairs with the wrapped Fukaya category of M. This is a first step in a project to enrich wrapped Fukaya categories over cobordism spectra. As a corollary, we show that cobordant compact branes are equivalent in the Fukaya category. We will also mention…
Given an algebraic hypersurface $H=f^{-1}(0)$ in $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$, homological mirror symmetry relates the wrapped Fukaya category of $H$ to the derived category of singularities of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model. We propose an enriched version of this picture which also features the wrapped Fukaya category of the complement $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n\setminus H$ and the Fukaya-Seidel category of the Landau-Ginzburg model $((\mathbb{C}^*)^n,f)$. We illustrate our speculations on simple examples, and sketch a proof of homological mirror symmetry for higher-dimensional pairs of pants.
We show homological mirror symmetry results relating coherent analytic sheaves on some complex elliptic surfaces and objects of certain Fukaya categories. We first define the notion of a non-algebraic Landau-Ginzburg model on $\mathbb{R} \times S^1$ and its associated Fukaya category, and show that non-Kähler sur-faces obtained by performing two logarithmic transformations to the product of the projective plane and an elliptic curve have non-algebraic Landau-Ginzburg models as their mirror spaces; this class of surface includes the classical Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ and other elliptic prim…
We prove that the algebra of chains on the based loop space recovers the derived (wrapped) Fukaya category of the cotangent bundle of a closed smooth orientable manifold. The main new idea is the proof that a cotangent fibre generates the Fukaya category using a version of the map from symplectic cohomology to the homology of the free loop space introduced by Cieliebak and Latschev.
Floer theory for Lagrangian cobordisms was developed by Biran and Cornea to study the triangulated structure of the derived Fukaya category of monotone symplectic manifolds. This paper explains how to use the language of stops to study Lagrangian cobordisms in Liouville manifolds and the associated exact triangles in the derived wrapped Fukaya category. Furthermore, we compute the cobordism groups of non-compact Riemann surfaces of finite type.
Using Auroux's description of Fukaya categories of symmetric products of punctured surfaces, we compute the partially wrapped Fukaya category of the complement of $k+1$ generic hyperplanes in $\mathbb{CP}^n$, for $k \geq n$, with respect to certain stops in terms of the endomorphism algebra of a generating set of objects. The stops are chosen so that the resulting algebra is formal. In the case of the complement of $(n+2)$-generic hyperplanes in $\mathbb{C}P^n$ ($n$-dimensional pair-of-pants), we show that our partial wrapped Fukaya category is equivalent to a certain categorical resolution of…
The main goal of this paper is to discuss a symplectic interpretation of Lipshitz, Ozsvath and Thurston's bordered Heegaard-Floer homology in terms of Fukaya categories of symmetric products and Lagrangian correspondences. More specifically, we give a description of the algebra A(F) which appears in the work of Lipshitz, Ozsvath and Thurston in terms of (partially wrapped) Floer homology for product Lagrangians in the symmetric product, and outline how bordered Heegaard-Floer homology itself can conjecturally be understood in this language.
In this thesis, we study the wrapped Fukaya category of the rational homology ball $B_{p,q}$ and the traditional/wrapped microlocal sheaves on its skeleton $L_{p,q}$, called pinwheel. We explicitly calculate both for $q=1$, and show they match in wrapped case.
It is shown that there is a useful notion of a relative Bridgeland stability condition on the partially wrapped Fukaya category of a marked surface, relative to some part of the surface's boundary. This construction has nice functorial properties, obeying cutting and gluing relations. This reduces the calculation of stability conditions on the Fukaya category of any fully stopped surface into three types of base cases. Calculations of these cases shows that every Bridgeland stability condition on such categories can be described by flat surfaces. In other words, the map constructed by Haiden-K…
We show that the perfect derived categories of Iyama's $d$-dimensional Auslander algebras of type $\mathbb{A}$ are equivalent to the partially wrapped Fukaya categories of the $d$-fold symmetric product of the $2$-dimensional unit disk with finitely many stops on its boundary. Furthermore, we observe that Koszul duality provides an equivalence between the partially wrapped Fukaya categories associated to the $d$-fold symmetric product of the disk and those of its $(n-d)$-fold symmetric product; this observation leads to a symplectic proof of a theorem of Beckert concerning the derived Morita e…
We prove the surprising fact that the infinity-category of stabilized Liouville sectors is a localization of an ordinary category of stabilized Liouville sectors and strict sectorial embeddings. From the perspective of homotopy theory, this result continues a trend of realizing geometrically meaningful mapping spaces through the categorically formal process of localizing. From the symplectic viewpoint, these results allow us to reduce highly non-trivial coherence results to much simpler verifications. For example, we prove that the wrapped Fukaya category is coherently functorial on stabilized…
This paper describes constructions in homological algebra that are part of a strategy whose goal is to understand and classify symplectic mapping tori. More precisely, given a dg category and an auto-equivalence, satisfying certain assumptions, we introduce a category $M_ϕ$-called the mapping torus category that describes the wrapped Fukaya category of an open symplectic mapping torus. Then we define a family of bimodules on a natural deformation of $M_ϕ$, uniquely characterize it and using this, we distinguish $M_ϕ$ from the mapping torus category of the identity. The proof of the equivalence…
