The Einstein-Yang-Mills equations are the source of many interesting solutions within general relativity, including families of particle-like and black hole solutions, and critical phenomena of more than one type. These solutions, discovered in the last thirty years, all assume a restricted form for the Yang-Mills gauge potential known as the "magnetic" ansatz. In this thesis we relax that assumption and investigate the most general solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills system assuming spherically symmetry, a Yang-Mills gauge group of SU(2), and zero cosmological constant. We proceed primarily by numerically integrating the equations and find new static solutions, for both regular and black hole boundary conditions, which are not asymptotically flat, and attempt to classify the possible static behaviours. We develop a code to solve the dynamic equations that uses a novel adaptive mesh refinement algorithm making full use of double-null coordinates. We find that the "type II" critical behaviour in the general case exhibits non-universal critical solutions, in contrast to the magnetic case and to all previously observed type II critical behaviour.
We categorize the global structure of spherically symmetric static solutions of Einstein SU(2) Yang Mills equations with positive cosmological constant that are smooth at the center of spherical symmetry.
We consider static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein equations with cosmological constant coupled to the SU(2) Yang Mills equations. We prove that most solutions can be continued back to the origin of spherical symmetry and that the qualitative behavior of solutions near this origin does not depend on the value of the cosmological constant.
The Einstein equations with small positive cosmological constant coupled to an SU(2) Yang Mills field admits solutions that possess a coordinate singularity at a noncritical radius. Here, we prove that these solutions are otherwise globally smooth and that they asymptotically approach Schwarzschild deSitter space with a vanishing Yang Mills field.
We consider static spherically symmetric solutions of Einstein's equations coupled to an SU(2) Yang Mills field that are smooth at the center of spherical symmetry. We prove that with small cosmological constant there exist solutions that possess a coordinate singularity at some r that is not maximum. The singularity can be removed with a Kruskal-like change of coordinates.
Static, spherically symmetric solutions of the Yang-Mills-Dilaton theory are studied. It is shown that these solutions fall into three different classes. The generic solutions are singular. Besides there is a discrete set of globally regular solutions further distinguished by the number of nodes of their Yang-Mills potential. The third class consists of oscillating solutions playing the role of limits of regular solutions, when the number of nodes tends to infinity. We show that all three sets of solutions are non-empty. Furthermore we give asymptotic formulae for the parameters of regular sol…
It is shown analytically that every static, spherically symmetric solution to the Einstein Yang Mills equations with SU(2) gauge group that is defined in the far field has finite ADM mass. Moreover, there can be at most two horizons for such solutions. The three types of solutions possible, Bartnik-McKinnon particle-like solutions, Reissner-Nordstrom-like solutions, and black hole solutions having only one horizon are distinguished by the behavior of the metric coefficients at the origin.
The hierarchies of both Lovelock gravity and power-Yang-Mills field are combined through gravity in a single theory. In static, spherically symmetric ansatz exact particular integrals are obtained in all higher dimensions. The advantage of such hierarchies is the possibility of choosing coefficients, which are arbitrary otherwise, to cast solutions into tractable forms. To our knowledge the solutions constitute the most general spherically symmetric metrics that incorporate complexities both of Lovelock and Yang-Mills hierarchies within the common context. A large portion of our general class …
The conformal field equations are used to discuss the local existence of spherically symmetric solutions to the Einstein-Yang-Mills system which behave asymptotically like the anti-de Sitter spacetime. By using a gauge based on conformally privileged curves we obtain a formulation of the problem in terms of an initial boundary value problem on which a general class of maximally dissipative boundary conditions can be discussed. The relation between these boundary conditions and the notion of mass on asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes is analysed.
We give a complete classification of all static, spherically symmetric solutions of the SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with a positive cosmological constant. Our classification proceeds in two steps. We first extend solutions of the radial field equations to their maximal interval of existence. In a second step we determine the Carter-Penrose diagrams of all 4-dimensional space-times constructible from such radial pieces. Based on numerical studies we sketch a complete phase space picture of all solutions with a regular origin.
We prove local existence and uniqueness of static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills equations for an arbitrary compact semisimple gauge group in the so-called regular case. By this we mean the equations obtained when the rotation group acts on the principal bundle on which the Yang-Mills connection takes its values in a particularly simple way (the only one ever considered in the literature). The boundary value problem that results for possible asymptotically flat soliton or black hole solutions is very singular and just establishing that local power series solutions e…
Globally regular (ie. asymptotically flat and regular interior), spherically symmetric and localised ("particle-like") solutions of the coupled Einstein Yang-Mills (EYM) equations with gauge group SU(2) have been known for more than 20 years, yet their properties are still not well understood. Spherically symmetric Yang--Mills fields are classified by a choice of isotropy generator and SO(5) is distinguished as the simplest model with a \emph{non-Abelian} residual (little) group, $SU(2)\times U(1)$, and which admits globally regular particle-like solutions. We exhibit an algebraic gauge condit…
We investigate the late-time evolution of the Yang-Mills field in the self-gravitating backgrounds: Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström spacetimes. The late-time power-law tails develop in the three asymptotic regions: the future timelike infinity, the future null infinity and the black hole horizon. In these two backgrounds, however, the late-time evolution has quantitative and qualitative differences. In the Schwarzschild black hole background, the late-time tails of the Yang-Mills field are the same as those of the neutral massless scalar field with multipole moment l=1. The late-time evol…
We study critical behavior in gravitational collapse of a general spherically symmetric Yang-Mills field coupled to the Einstein equations. Unlike the magnetic ansatz used in previous numerical work, the general Yang-Mills connection has two degrees of freedom in spherical symmetry. This fact changes the phenomenology of critical collapse dramatically. The magnetic sector features both type I and type II critical collapse, with universal critical solutions. In contrast, in the general system type I disappears and the critical behavior at the threshold between dispersal and black hole formation…
We consider an Einstein-Yang-Mills Lagrangian in a five dimensional space-time including a cosmological constant. Assuming all fields to be independent of the extra coordinate, a dimensional reduction leads to an effective (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs-dilaton model where the cosmological constant induces a Liouville potential in the dilaton field. We construct spherically symmetric solutions analytically in specific limits and study the generic solutions for vanishing dilaton coupling numerically. We find that in this latter case the solutions bifurcate with the branch of (Anti-…
Constraints on Shadow Radius and Instabilities Arising from Various Perturbations in Spherically Symmetric Black Holes in Einstein-power-Yang-Mills-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity
We study a static, spherically symmetric system of (2j+1) massive Dirac particles, each having angular momentum j, j=1,2,..., in a classical gravitational and SU(2) Yang-Mills field. We show that for any black hole solution of the associated Einstein-Dirac-Yang/Mills equations, the spinors must vanish identically outside of the event horizon.
We prove uniform decay estimates in the entire exterior of the Schwarzschild black hole for gauge invariant norms on the Yang-Mills fields valued in the Lie algebra associated to the Lie group $SU(2)$. We assume that the initial data are spherically symmetric satisfying a certain Ansatz, and have small energy, which eliminates the stationary solutions which do not decay. In particular, there don't exist any Coulomb type solutions satisfying this Ansatz. We first prove a Morawetz type estimate for the Yang-Mills fields within this setting, using the Yang-Mills equations directly. We then adapt …
We revisit and generalize, to the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs system, previous results of D. Christodoulou and D. Chae concerning global solutions for the Einstein-scalar field and the Einstein-Maxwell-Higgs equations. The novelty of the present work is twofold. For one thing the assumption on the self-interaction potential is improved. For another thing explanation is furnished why the solutions obtained here and those proved by Chae for the Einstein-Maxwell-Higgs decay more slowly than those established by Christodoulou in the case of self-gravitating scalar fields. Actually this latter phenom…
In this paper we study a new type of solution of the spherically symmetric, Einstein-Yang/Mills (EYM) equations with SU(2) gauge group. These solutions are well-behaved in the far-field, and have a Reissner-Nordstrom type essential singularity at the origin. These solutions display some novel features which are not present in particle-like, or black-hole solutions. Any spherically symmetric solution to the EYM equations, defined in the far-field, is either a particle-like solution, a black-hole solution, or one of these RNL solutions.
A static spherically symmetric solution is obtained and examined in the framework of Einstein-power-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory. To derive this exact solution a dilaton potential $V(Φ)$ is taken into account. Thermodynamics of the black hole is also studied, namely we have obtained and investigated the temperature and heat capacity of the black hole which has allowed us characterize the stability of the black hole. Using the framework of the extended thermodynamic phase space we have derived the equation of state for the black hole. We have studied the Gibbs free energy of the black hole, which …
A static black hole with spherical symmetry is obtained and examined in the framework of Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory. The obtained black hole solution allowed us to derive and investigate entropy, temperature and heat capacity. To better examine the thermodynamics of the black hole extended phase space is also used. On this ground the equation of state is obtained and studied. We have also investigated the Gibbs free energy and it is shown that below the critical temperature the system demonstrates phase transitions of the first as well as of the zeroth order which is notable feature fo…
The exact solutions of Einstein - Yang - Mills and interacting with SO (3) - Yang-Mills field nonlinear scalar field equations in a class of spatially homogeneous cosmological Friedmann models are obtained.
By employing the higher dimensional version of the Wu-Yang Ansatz we obtain black hole solutions in the spherically symmetric Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) theory. Although these solutions were found recently by other means, our method provides an alternative way in which one identifies the contribution from the Yang-Mills (YM) charge. Our method has the advantage to be carried out analytically as well. We discuss some interesting features of the black hole solutions obtained.
We present several different classes of selfdual Yang-Mills instantons in all even d backgrounds with Euclidean signature. In d=4p+2 the only solutions we found are on constant curvature dS and AdS backgrounds, and are evaluated in closed form. In d=4p an interesting class of instantons are given on black hole backgrounds. One class of solutions are (Euclidean) time-independent and spherically symmetric in d-1 dimensions, and the other class are spherically symmetric in all d dimensions. Some of the solutions in the former class are evaluated numerically, all the rest being given in closed for…
Symmetric gauge fields and invariant metrics in homogeneous spaces are found. Their use for finding exact solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) equations is discussed.
We prove that static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat, regular solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills equations are unstable for arbitrary gauge groups, at least for the ``generic" case. This conclusion is derived without explicit knowledge of the possible equilibrium solutions.
We present a new class of the black hole solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-Yang-Mills theory. These solutions have both U(1) charge and Yang-Mills hair. We also investigate the thermodynamic properties.
In this paper, a procedure which gives euclidean solutions of 3-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills equations when one has solutions of the Einstein equations is proposed. The method is based on reformulating Yang-Mills theory in such a way that it becomes a gravity. It is applied to find black hole solutions of the coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills equations.
It is shown that for the spherically-symmetric and static systems the hypotheses posed by Yang and Radinschi and by Vagenas can be related to the particular distribution of the source. Simple proofs are given and a number of examples are discussed with the special emphasis put on the quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole.
Several exact, cylindrically symmetric solutions to Einstein's vacuum equations are given. These solutions were found using the connection between Yang-Mills theory and general relativity. Taking known solutions of the Yang-Mills equations (e.g. the topological BPS monopole solutions) it is possible to construct exact solutions to the general relativistic field equations. Although the general relativistic solutions were found starting from known solutions of Yang-Mills theory they have different physical characteristics.
In this work a static spherically symmetric black hole's solution within the Einstein-Maxwell-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory is derived. The obtained solution is examined, in particular, we have calculated the Kretschmann scalar which allowed us to characterize singularity points. Using the obtained black hole's solution we have studied its thermodynamics. Namely, the temperature was calculated, the first law was written, and the heat capacity was studied. The extended thermodynamics approach is utilized to obtain the equation of state. Within the extended thermodynamics the Gibbs free energy is de…
In this paper we study the homogeneous interiors of black holes possessing SU(2) Yang-Mills fields subject to corrections inspired by loop quantum gravity. The systems studied possess both magnetic and induced electric Yang-Mills fields. We consider the system of equations both with and without Wilson loop corrections to the Yang-Mills potential. The structure of the Yang-Mills Hamiltonian along with the restriction to homogeneity allows for an anomaly free effective quantization. In particular we study the bounce which replaces the classical singularity and the behavior of the Yang-Mills fiel…
We consider the Einstein-Yang-Mills Lagrangian in a (4+n)-dimensional space-time. Assuming the matter and metric fields to be independent of the n extra coordinates, a spherical symmetric Ansatz for the fields leads to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. We find that for n > 1 only solutions with either one non-zero Higgs field or with all Higgs fields constant exist. We construct the analytic solutions which fulfill this conditions for arbitrary n, namely the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton solutions. We also present generic solutions of the effective 4-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-…
We derive nonstatic spherically symmetric solutions of a null fluid, in five dimension (5D), to Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) equations with the coupling of Gauss-Bonnet (GB) combination of quadratic curvature terms, namely, 5D-EYMGB radiating black hole solution. It is shown that, in the limit, we can recover known radiating black hole solutions. The spherically symmetric known 5D static black hole solutions are also retrieved. The effect of the GB term and Yang-Mills (YM) gauge charge on the structure and location of horizons, of the 5D radiating black hole, is also discussed.
In Einstein-Maxwell theory black holes are uniquely determined by their mass, their charge and their angular momentum. This is no longer true in Einstein-Yang-Mills theory. We discuss sequences of neutral and charged SU(N) Einstein-Yang-Mills black holes, which are static spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat, and which carry Yang-Mills hair. Furthermore, in Einstein-Maxwell theory static black holes are spherically symmetric. We demonstrate that, in contrast, SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills theory possesses a sequence of black holes, which are static and only axially symmetric.
We investigate the existence of black hole and soliton solutions to four dimensional, anti-de Sitter (adS), Einstein-Yang-Mills theories with general semisimple connected and simply connected gauge groups, concentrating on the so-called "regular" case. We here generalise results for the asymptotically flat case, and compare our system with similar results from the well-researched adS $\mathfrak{su}(N)$ system. We find the analysis differs from the asymptotically flat case in some important ways: the biggest difference is that for $Λ<0$, solutions are much less constrained as $r\rightarrow\inft…
We discuss the static axially symmetric regular solutions, obtained recently in Einstein-Yang-Mills and Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory [1]. These asymptotically flat solutions are characterized by the winding number $n>1$ and the node number $k$ of the purely magnetic gauge field. The well-known spherically symmetric solutions have winding number $n=1$. The axially symmetric solutions satisfy the same relations between the metric and the dilaton field as their spherically symmetric counterparts. Exhibiting a strong peak along the $ρ$-axis, the energy density of the matter fields of the axi…
New solutions to the static, spherically symmetric Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs equations with the Higgs field in the triplet resp. doublet representation are presented. They form continuous families parametrized by $α=M_W/M_Pl$ ($M_W$ resp. $M_Pl$ denoting the W-boson resp. the Planck mass). The corresponding spacetimes are regular and have spatially compact sections. A particularly interesting class with the Yang-Mills amplitude being nodeless is exhibited and is shown to be linearly stable with respect to spherically symmetric perturbations. For some solutions with nodes of the Yang-Mills ampl…
We study classical solutions in the SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory. The spherically symmetric ansätze for all fields are given and the equations of motion are derived as a system of ordinary differential equations. The asymptotics and the boundary conditions at space origin for regular solutions and at event horizon for black hole solutions are studied. Using the shooting method, we found numerical solutions to the theory. For regular solutions, we find two new sets of asymptotically flat solutions. Each of these sets contains continua of solutions in the parameter space spanned by the…
In this letter, we find the first dynamically stable non-singular solution spherically symmetric SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills equation. This solutions is regular at r=0 and asymptotically flat. Since the Yang-Mills field strength decay exponentially, the Einstein-Yang-Mills particle perhaps can be used to be a candidate for dark matter.
We discuss the asymptotic form of the static axially symmetric, globally regular and black hole solutions, obtained recently in Einstein-Yang-Mills and Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory.
The method of minimal geometric deformation (MGD) is used to derive static, strongly gravitating, spherically symmetric, compact stellar distributions that are solutions of the Yang-Mills-Einstein-Dirac coupled field equations, on fluid membranes with finite tension. Their solutions characterize MGD Yang-Mills-Dirac stars, whose mass has order of the Chandrasekhar mass, once the range of both the fermionic self-interaction and the Yang-Mills coupling constants is suitably chosen. Physical features of MGD Yang-Mills-Dirac stars are then discussed, and their ADM mass are derived, as a function o…
We investigate the possibility that the modified Yang-Mills theories can produce an accelerated cosmic expansion. We take into account some specific non-trivial solution of the modified Yang-Mills equation obtained by the author earlier, which allows us to build several modifications of accelerated cosmic expansion.
We study the statefinder parameters in the Yang-Mills condensate dark energy models, and find that the evolving trajectories of these models are different from those of other dark energy models. We also define two eigenfunctions of the Yang-Mills condensate dark energy models. The values of these eigenfunctions are quite close to zero if the equation-of-state of the Yang-Mills condensate is not far from -1, which can be used to simply differentiate between the Yang-Mills condensate models and other dark energy models.
Using Hamilton-Jacobi formalism we investigated the massive Yang-Mills theory on both extended and reduced phase-space. The integrability conditions were discussed and the actions were calculated.
We investigate finite energy solutions of the Einstein--Yang-Mills--Chern-Simons system in odd spacetime dimensions, D=2n+1, with n>1. Our configurations are static and spherically symmetric, approaching at infinity a Minkowski spacetime background. In contrast with the Abelian case, the contribution of the Chern-Simons term is nontrivial already in the static, spherically symmetric limit. Both globally regular, particle-like solutions and black holes are constructed numerically for several values of D. These solutions carry a nonzero electric charge and have finite mass. For globally regular …
We study the four-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills black hole in the presence of Dirac fermion field. Assuming a spherically symmetric static asymptotically flat black hole spacetime we consider both massless and massive fermion fields. The (4+1)-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills system effectively reducing to Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs-dilaton model, was also taken into account. One finds that fermion vacuum leads to the destruction of black holes in question.
The phenomena of emergent fuzzy geometry and noncommutative gauge theory from Yang-Mills matrix models is briefly reviewed. In particular, the eigenvalues distributions of Yang-Mills matrix models in lower dimensions in the commuting (matrix or Yang-Mills) phase of these models are discussed.
I articulate and discuss a geometrical interpretation of Yang-Mills theory. Analogies and disanalogies between Yang-Mills theory and general relativity are also considered.
An explicit canonical transformation is constructed to relate the physical subspace of Yang-Mills theory to the phase space of the ADM variables of general relativity. This maps 3+1 dimensional Yang-Mills theory to local evolution of metrics on 3 manifolds.
We determine all inhomogeneous Yang-Mills algebras and super Yang-Mills algebras which are Koszul. Following a recent proposal, a non-homogeneous algebra is said to be Koszul if the homogeneous part is Koszul and if the PBW property holds. In this paper, the homogeneous parts are the Yang-Mills algebra and the super Yang-Mills algebra.
We discuss a non-minimal Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs model with uniaxial anisotropy in the group space associated with the Higgs field. We apply this theory to the problem of propagation of color and color-acoustic waves in the gravitational background related to the non-minimal regular Wu-Yang monopole.
We prove the existence of a spectral resolution of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation when the matter field is provided by a massive Yang-Mills field. The resolution is achieved by first solving the free eigenvalue problem for the gravitational field and then the constrained eigenvalue problem for the Yang-Mills field. In the latter case the mass of the Yang-Mills field assumes the role of the eigenvalue.
