The Tribonacci sequence is a well-known example of third order recurrence sequence, which belongs to a particular class of recursive sequences. In this article, other generalized Tribonacci sequence is introduced and defined by $H_{n+2}=H_{n+1}+H_{n}+H_{n-1}\ \ (n\geq 1)$, where $H_{0}=3$, $H_{1}=0$ and $H_{2}=2$. Also $n$-th power of the generating matrix for this generalized Tribonacci sequence is established and some basic properties of this sequence are obtained by matrix methods. There are many elementary formulae relating the various $H_{n}$, most of which, since the sequence is defined inductively, are themselves usually proved by induction.
In this study, we apply the binomial transforms to Tribonacci and Tribonacci-Lucas sequences. Also, the Binet formulas, summations, generating functions of these transforms are found using recurrence relations. Finally, we illustrate the relation between these transforms by deriving new formulas.
We consider a sequence of sums of powers of the the roots of the cubic equation characterizing the Tribonacci sequences and derive its relationship with a particular Tribonacci sequence. Then we make a conjecture on the possible generalization.
We establish some identities relating two sequences that are, as explained, related to the Tribonacci sequence. One of these sequences bears the same resemblance to the Tribonacci sequence as the Lucas sequence does to the Fibonacci sequence. Defining a matrix that we call Tribomatrix, which extends the Fibonacci matrix, we see that the other sequence is related to the sum of the determinants of the 2nd order principal minors of this matrix.
In this paper some properties of generalized tribonacci and generalized Padovan sequence are presented. Also the Euclidean norms of circulant, $r$-circulant, semi-circulant and Hankle matrices with above mentioned sequences are calculated. The upper and lower bounds of spectral norms are also obtained.
In this paper, we give quadratic approximation of generalized Tribonacci sequence $\{V_{n}\}_{n\geq0}$ defined by Eq. (\ref{eq:7}) and use this result to give the matrix form of the $n$-th power of a companion matrix of $\{V_{n}\}_{n\geq0}$. Then we re-prove the cubic identity or Cassini-type formula for $\{V_{n}\}_{n\geq0}$ and the Binet's formula of the generalized Tribonacci quaternions.
Only one three-term recurrence relation, namely, $W_{r}=2W_{r-1}-W_{r-4}$, is known for the generalized Tribonacci numbers, $W_r$, $r\in\mathbb{Z}$, defined by $W_{r}=W_{r-1}+W_{r-2}+W_{r-3}$ and \mbox{$W_{-r}=W_{-r+3}-W_{-r+2}-W_{-r+1}$}, where $W_0$, $W_1$ and $W_2$ are given, arbitrary integers, not all zero. Also, only one four-term addition formula is known for these numbers, which is, $W_{r + s} = T_{s - 1} W_{r - 1} + (T_{s - 1} + T_{s-2} )W_r + T_s W_{r + 1}$, where $({T_r})_{r\in\mathbb{Z}}$ is the Tribonacci sequence, a special case of the generalized Tribonacci sequence, with $W_0=T…
In this paper, we evaluate determinants of some families of Toeplitz-Hessenberg matrices having tribonacci number entries. These determinant formulas may also be expressed equivalently as identities that involve sums of products of multinomial coefficients and tribonacci numbers. In particular, we establish a connection between the tribonacci and the Fibonacci and Padovan sequences via Toeplitz-Hessenberg determinants. We then obtain, by combinatorial arguments, extensions of our determinant formulas in terms of generalized tribonacci sequences satisfying an r-th order recurrence of a more gen…
The Tribonacci sequence $\mathbb{T}$ is the fixed point of the substitution $σ(a,b,c)=(ab,ac,a)$. The main result is twofold: (1) we give the explicit expressions of the numbers of distinct squares and cubes in $\mathbb{T}[1,n]$ (the prefix of $\mathbb{T}$ of length $n$); (2) we give algorithms for counting the number of repeated squares and cubes in $\mathbb{T}[1,n]$ for all $n$; then get explicit expressions for some special $n$ such as $n=t_m$ (the Tribonacci number).
Let $V_{n}$ denote the third order linear recursive sequence defined by the initial values $V_{0}$, $V_{1}$ and $V_{2}$ and the recursion $V_{n}=rV_{n-1}+sV_{n-2}+tV_{n-3}$ if $n\geq 3$, where $r$, $s$, and $t$ are real constants. The $\{V_{n}\}_{n\geq0}$ are generalized Tribonacci numbers and reduce to the usual Tribonacci numbers when $r=s=t=1$ and to the $3$-bonacci numbers when $r=s=1$ and $t=0$. In this study, we introduced a quaternion sequence which has not been introduced before. We show that the new quaternion sequence that we introduced includes the previously introduced Tribonacci, …
We introduce a class of sequences, defined by means of partial Bell polynomials, that contains a basis for the space of linear recurrence sequences with constant coefficients as well as other well-known sequences like Catalan and Motzkin. For the family of `Bell sequences' considered in this paper, we give a general multifold convolution formula and illustrate our result with a few explicit examples.
Let a tribonacci sequence be a sequence of integers satisfying $a_k=a_{k-1}+a_{k-2}+a_{k-3}$ for all $k\ge 4$. For any positive integers $k$ and $n$, denote by $f_k(n)$ the number of tribonacci sequences with $a_1, a_2, a_3>0$ and with $a_k=n$. For all $n$, there is a maximum $k$ such that $f_k(n)$ is non-zero. Answering a question of Spiro \cite{Spiro}, we show that there is a finite upper bound (we specifically prove 561001) on $f_k(n)$ for any positive integer $n\ge 3$ and this maximum $k$. We do this by showing that $f_k(n)$ has transitions in $n$ around constant multiples of $ϕ^{3k/2}$ (w…
This paper, in considering aspects of the geometric mean sequence, offers new results connecting generalized Tribonacci and third-order Horadam numbers which are established and then proved independently.
In this paper, we first give new generalizations for third-order Horadam $\{H_{n}^{(3)}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ and generalized Tribonacci $\{h_{n}^{(3)}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ sequences for classic Horadam and generalized Fibonacci numbers. Considering these sequences, we define the matrix sequences which have elements of $\{H_{n}^{(3)}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ and $\{h_{n}^{(3)}\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$. Then we investigate their properties.
We present a general method for computing the abelian complexity $ρ^{\rm ab}_{\bf s} (n)$ of an automatic sequence $\bf s$ in the case where (a) $ρ^{\rm ab}_{\bf s} (n)$ is bounded by a constant and (b) the Parikh vectors of the length-$n$ prefixes of $\bf s$ form a synchronized sequence. We illustrate the idea in detail, using the free software Walnut to compute the abelian complexity of the Tribonacci word ${\bf TR} = 0102010\cdots$, the fixed point of the morphism $0 \rightarrow 01$, $1 \rightarrow 02$, $2 \rightarrow 0$. Previously, Richomme, Saari, and Zamboni showed that the abelian comp…
As is well-known, the ratio of adjacent Fibonacci numbers tends to phi = (1 + sqrt(5))/2, and the ratio of adjacent Tribonacci numbers (where each term is the sum of the three preceding numbers) tends to the real root eta of X^3 - X^2 - X - 1 = 0. Letting alpha(n) denote the corresponding ratio for the generalized Fibonacci numbers, where each term is the sum of the n preceding, we obtain rapidly converging series for alpha(n), 1/alpha(n), and 1/(2-alpha(n)).
A palindromic composition of $n$ is a composition of $n$ which can be read the same way forwards and backwards. In this paper we define an anti-palindromic composition of $n$ to be a composition of $n$ which has no mirror symmetry amongst its parts. We then give a surprising connection between the number of anti-palindromic compositions of $n$ and the so-called tribonacci sequence, a generalization of the Fibonacci sequence. We conclude by defining a new q-analogue of the Fibonacci sequence, which is related to certain equivalence classes of anti-palindromic compositions
We determine the degree sequence of the generalized Sierpinski graph and its general first Zagreb index in terms of the same parameters of the base graph G.
Using sequences of finite length with positive integer elements and the inversion statistic on such sequences, a collection of binomial and multinomial identities are extended to their $q$-analog form via combinatorial proofs. Using the major index statistic on sequences, a connection between integer partitions with kinds and finite differences of the coefficients of generalized Galois numbers is established.
In this note we use the analogy between the Catalan sequence and the Rueppel sequence to derive a variety of conjectures surrounding the Hankel transforms of a number of sequences closely related to the Rueppel sequence. Use is made of the representation of suitable generating functions by Stieltjes continued fractions. We define polynomial sequences by introducing parameters that define generalized Rueppel sequences, and we show that such polynomials have coefficient arrays that are Riordan arrays. Finally we conjecture the form of a product of Hankel transforms arising from the Rueppel seque…
In this paper, we study the abelian complexity $ρ_n^{ab}(\mathbf{t}^{(k)})$ of generalized Thue-Morse sequences $\mathbf{t}^{(k)}$. We obtain the exact value of $ρ_n^{ab}(\mathbf{t}^{(k)})$ for every integer $n\geq k$. Consequently, $ρ_n^{ab}(\mathbf{t}^{(k)})$ is ultimately periodic with the period $k$. Moreover, we show that the abelian complexities of a class of infinite sequences are $k$-automatic.
We study degree sequences for simplicial posets and polyhedral complexes, generalizing the well-studied graphical degree sequences. Here we extend the more common generalization of vertex-to-facet degree sequences by considering arbitrary face-to-flag degree sequences. In particular, these may be viewed as natural refinements of the flag f-vector of the poset. We investigate properties and relations of these generalized degree sequences, proving linear relations between flag degree sequences in terms of the composition of rank jumps of the flag. As a corollary, we recover an f-vector inequalit…
Stanley has conjectured that the h-vector of a matroid complex is a pure O-sequence. We will prove this for cotransversal matroids by using generalized permutohedra. We construct a bijection between lattice points inside a r-dimensional convex polytope and bases of a rank r transversal matroid.
We consider special multiclass spectral, discrepancy, degree, and codegree properties of expanding graph sequences. As we can prove equivalences and implications between them and the definition of the generalized quasirandomness of Lovász--Sós (2008), they can be regarded as generalized quasirandom properties akin to the equivalent quasirandom properties of the seminal Chung--Graham--Wilson paper (1989) in the one-class scenario. Since these properties are valid for certain deterministic graph sequences, irrespective of stochastic models, the partial implications also justify for law-dimension…

We define sequence patterns of length $n$ and level $\ell$ to be equivalence classes of sequences that have $n$ elements from the set of $\ell$ integer symbols $\{1,2,\ldots,\ell\}$ with no restriction on repetition, where the equivalence relation is induced by symbol relabeling without swapping positions of symbols. We define a distance for a set of $k$ sequence patterns of length $n$ and level $\ell$ by generalizing the Hamming distance between sequences. We compute the maximal distance for $k$ sequence patterns of length $n$ and level $\ell$ and demonstrate how to calculate the exact distan…
The skew of a binary string is the difference between the number of zeroes and the number of ones, while the length of the string is the sum of these two numbers. We consider certain suffixes of the lexicographically-least de Bruijn sequence at natural breakpoints of the binary string. We show that the skew and length of these suffixes are enumerated by sequences generalizing the Fibonacci and Lucas numbers, respectively.
We give a simplified presentation of some results about recurrences of certain sequences of binomial sums in terms of (generalized) Fibonacci and Lucas polynomials.
We consider sequences of the type $A_n=6A_{n-1}-A_{n-2}, A_0=r, A_1=s$ ($r$ and $s$ integers) and show that all sequences that solve particular cases of the Pell generalized equation are expressible as a constant times one of four particular sequences of the same type.
Let $F(z)$ be a $k$-regular series in $\mathbb{Z}[[z]]$ and $b$ be an integer with $b\ge2$. Bell, Bugeaud and Coons [BelBC] proved that $F(\frac{1}{b})$ is either rational or transcendental. In [Mi], we introduce a generalized $k$-regular sequence as a unification of several kinds of important sequences including $k$-regular, $k$-additive and $k$-multiplicative sequences. In this paper, we give a generalization of the result of Bell, Bugeaud and Coons for certain generalized $k$-regular series. Especially, we show that the values of irrational generating functions of certain sum of $k$-additiv…
In this paper, we investigate the generalized Pell sequence, the generalized complex Pell sequence and the generalized dual Pell sequence using the Pell numbers. We obtain special cases of these sequences. Furthermore, we give recurrence relations, vectors, the silver ratio and Binet's formula for the above-investigated sequences.
In this paper, we prove that there are uncountable many real transcendental numbers, which are generated by digital pattern sequences. This generalizes the main theorem in Morton and Mourant, which states the existence of countable many similar numbers. Our method relies on the combinatorial quantitative transcendence criterion established by Adamczewski and Bugeaud and properties of generalized k-regular sequences, which is introduced by this paper.
Motivated by the known autocorrelation properties of the Rudin-Shapiro sequence, we study the discrete correlation among infinite sequences over a finite alphabet, where we just take into account whether two symbols are identical. We show by combinatorial means that sequences cannot be "too" different, and by an explicit construction generalizing the Rudin-Shapiro sequence, we show that we can achieve the maximum possible difference.
Let $V(k)$ denote the waiting time, the number of trials needed to get a consecutive $k$ ones. We propose recurrence algorithms for the probability distribution function (pdf) and the probability generating function (pgf) of $V(k)$ in sequences of independent and Markov dependent Bernoulli trials using generalized Fibonacci sequences of order $k$. Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) methods for the probability distributions are presented in both cases with simulation examples.
