The scale at which supersymmetry (SUSY) breaks ($m_{s}$) is still unknown. The present article, following a top-down approach, endeavors to study the effect of varying $m_s$ on the radiative stability of the observational parameters associated with the neutrino mixing. These parameters get additional contributions in the minimal supersymmetric model,(MSSM). A variation in $m_s$ will influence the bounds for which the Standard Model,(SM) and MSSM work and hence will account for the different radiative contributions received from both sectors respectively, while running the renormalization group equations,(RGE). The present work establishes the invariance of the self complementarity relation among the three mixing angles, $θ_{13}+θ_{12}\approxθ_{23}$ against the radiative evolution. A similar result concerning the mass ratio, $m_2: m_1$ is also found to be valid. In addition to varying $m_s$, the work incorporates a range of different seesaw\,(SS) scales and tries to see how the latter affects the parameters.
We compute the effect of non diagonal neutrino mass in l_i -> l_j gamma in SUSY theories with non trivial Quark-Lepton complementarity and a flavor symmetry. The correlation matrix V_M=U_{CKM}U_{PMNS} is such that its (1,3) entry, as preferred by the present experimental data, is zero. We do not assume that $V_M$ is bimaximal. Quark-Lepton complementarity and the flavor symmetry strongly constrain the theory and we obtain a clear prediction for the contribution to mu -> e gamma and the tau decays tau -> e gamma and tau -> mu gamma. If the Dirac neutrino Yukawa couplings are degenerate but the …
This letter presents new results on the combined sensitivity of the LHC and underground dark matter search experiments to the lightest neutralino as WIMP candidate in the minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. We show that monojet searches significantly extend the sensitivity to the neutralino mass in scenarios where scalar quarks are nearly degenerate in mass with it. The inclusion of the latest bound by the LUX experiment on the neutralino-nucleon spin-independent scattering cross section expands this sensitivity further, highlighting the remarkable complementarity of jets/$…
We explore the pMSSM parameter space in view of the constraints from SUSY and monojet searches at the LHC, from Higgs data and flavour physics observables, as well as from dark matter searches. We show that whilst the simplest SUSY scenarios are already ruled out, there are still many possibilities left over in the pMSSM. We discuss the complementarity between different searches and consistency checks which are essential in probing the pMSSM and will be even more important in the near future with the next round of data becoming available.
We present a SUSY breaking scenario based on Abelian gaugino kinetic term mixings between hidden and observable sectors. If an extra U(1) gaugino in the observable sector obtains a large mass through this mixing effect based on SUSY breaking in the hidden sector, soft SUSY breaking parameters in the MSSM may be affected by radiative effects due to this gaugino mass. New phenomenological aspects are discussed in such a SUSY breaking scenario.
We systematically analyze the correlations between the various leptonic and hadronic flavor violating processes arising in SUSY Grand Unified Theories. Using the GUT-symmetric relations between the soft SUSY breaking parameters, we assess the impact of hadronic and leptonic flavor observables on the SUSY sources of flavor violation.
We explore a mechanism of radiative B-L symmetry breaking in analogous to the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. The breaking scale of B-L symmetry is related to the neutrino masses through the see-saw mechanism. Once we incorporate the U(1)_{B-L} gauge symmetry in SUSY models, the U(1)_{B-L} gaugino appears, and it can mediate the SUSY breaking (Z-prime mediated SUSY breaking) at around the scale of 10^6 GeV. Then we find a links between the neutrino mass (more precisly the see-saw or B-L scale of order 10^{6} GeV) and the Z-prime mediated SUSY breaking scale. It is also very interestin…
We construct a calculable model of electroweak symmetry breaking in which the Higgs doublet emerges from the meta-stable SUSY breaking sector as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson. The Higgs boson mass is further protected by the little Higgs mechanism, and naturally suppressed by a two-loop factor from the SUSY breaking scale of 10 TeV. Gaugino and sfermion masses arise from standard gauge mediation, but the Higgsino obtains a tree-level mass at the SUSY breaking scale. At 1 TeV, aside from new gauge bosons and fermions similar to other little Higgs models and their superpartners, our model predi…
After summarising very briefly the key features of different model predictions for sparticle masses and their relation with the supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scales and parameters, I discuss the capabilities of an $e^+ e^-$ Linear Collider (LC) with $\sqrt{s} \geq$ 500 GeV for precision measurements of sparticle properties. Then I focus on the lessons one can learn about the scale and mechanism of SUSY breaking from these measurements and point out how LC can crucially complement and extend the achievements of the LHC. I end by mentioning what would be the desired extensions in the type/energy…
We introduce fully SGUTs, SUSY grand unified theories that, upon symmetry breaking through the Higgs mechanism, decompose into a visible sector and an extra sector where the dynamics of the extra sector gauge group is responsible for SUSY breaking. Fully SGUTs thus have the important feature that all gauge groups of the visible sector and the extra sector unify into a simple gauge group at the SGUT scale, therefore generalizing the successful MSSM gauge coupling unification to all the gauge couplings of the theory. By focusing on the ISS SUSY-breaking mechanism in the extra sector, we show tha…
We discuss lepton flavor violation (LFV) in the context of SUSY breaking when the first-two generation sleptons are heavy. When the first-two generation sleptons are $\mathcal{O}(5 {\rm TeV})$ and have small mass-splittings, we find that a light third generation slepton is allowed even with the large mixing implied by neutrino oscillation experiments. As an application, we consider a gravity dual to single-sector SUSY breaking and show that it is compatible with both LFV constraints and oscillation measurements.
We explore a mechanism of radiative B-L symmetry breaking in analogous to the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. The breaking scale of B-L symmetry is related to the neutrino masses through the see-saw mechanism. Once we incorporate the U(1)(B-L) gauge symmetry in SUSY models, the U(1)(B-L) gaugino appears, and it can mediate the SUSY breaking (Z-prime mediated SUSY breaking) at around the scale of 10^6 GeV. Then we find a links between the neutrino mass (more precisly the see-saw or B-L scale of order 10^6 GeV) and the Z-prime mediated SUSY breaking scale. It is also very interesting th…
We estimate contributions of the goldstino supermultiplet to the electric dipole moment (EDM) in the case that the SUSY breaking scale Λ_S is of order the TeV scale. We found that such contributions can saturate the experimental bound if Λ_S is close to the soft mass scale. We also discuss EDM in the gaugino mediated scenario on the warped geometry as an example of models with the TeV-scale SUSY breaking.
In supersymmetric scenarios with a low scale of SUSY breaking [sqrt{F}=O(TeV)] the conventional MSSM Higgs sector can be substantially modified, mainly because the Higgs potential contains additional effective quartic terms. The Higgs spectrum can be dramatically changed, and the lightest state can be much heavier than in usual SUSY scenarios. Novel opportunities for electroweak breaking arise, and the electroweak scale may be obtained in a less fine-tuned way for wide ranges of tan(beta) and the Higgs mass, offering a possible solution to the MSSM fine-tuning problem.
We provide, in a framework of vector-like gauge theories, concrete models for conformal sequestering of dynamical supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking in the hidden sector. If the sequestering is sufficiently strong, anomaly mediation of the SUSY breaking may give dominant contributions to the mass spectrum of SUSY standard-model particles, leading to negative slepton masses squared. Thus, we also consider a model with gravitational gauge mediation to circumvent the tachyonic slepton problem in pure anomaly mediation models.
In this paper we present a dynamical model of SUSY breaking with a hybrid messenger sector. SUSY is broken dynamically at a scale of order $10^9$ GeV via strong SU(2) gauge interactions. SUSY breaking is then transmitted to the observable sector via two distinct sources: (1) messengers, carrying Standard Model gauge quantum numbers, with the messenger mass of order $10^{15}$ GeV, and (2) the D term of an anomalous U(1)$_X$. The model is quite constrained. The messenger scale is fixed by the Fayet-Iliopoulos term for the anomalous U(1)$_X$ interaction. In addition, we show that the D term SUSY …
We discuss spontaneous supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking in a model with an anomalous $U(1)_A$ symmetry. In this model, the size of the each term in the superpotential is controlled by the $U(1)_A$ charge assignment and SUSY is spontaneously broken via the Fayet-Iliopoulos of $U(1)_A$ at the meta-stable vacuum. In the global SUSY analysis, the gaugino masses become much smaller than the sfermion masses, because an approximate R-symmetry appears at the SUSY breaking vacuum. In this paper, we show that gaugino masses can be as large as gravitino mass, taking the supergravity effect into consideratio…
We investigate whether the Affleck-Dine mechanism can produce sufficient baryon number of the universe in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models, while evading the cosmological moduli problem by late-time entropy production. We find that the Q-ball formation makes the scenario difficult, irrespective of the detail mechanism of the entropy production.
We systematically construct gauge-mediated supersymmetry(SUSY)-breaking models with direct transmission of SUSY-breaking effects to the standard-model sector. We obtain a natural model with the gravitino mass $m_{3/2}$ smaller than 1 keV as required from the standard cosmology. If all Yukawa coupling constants are of order one,the SUSY-breaking scale $m_{SUSY}$ transmitted into the standard-model sector is given by $m_{SUSY} \simeq 0.1 α_i/(4π) Λ$ where $Λ$ is the original dynamical SUSY-breaking scale. Imposing $m_{SUSY} \simeq (10^2-10^3)$ GeV, we get $Λ\simeq (10^5-10^6)$ GeV, which yields …
I report here on the systematic analysis at Tevatron of the R-parity violating SUSY signals which correspond to the possible solution of anomalous HERA events.
We consider a scenario where supersymmetry (SUSY) is broken at a relatively low scale by modular fields of extra compact spacelike dimensions. The effect of both soft and hard SUSY breaking terms on the mass of the lightest neutral Higgs boson are investigated. An important conclusion is that the lightest neutral Higgs can be considerably more massive than what is expected in the MSSM, if the overseeing theory breaks SUSY at a scale not too far above a TeV. An explicit model that implements this has been shown for illustration.
The sequestering of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking parameters, which is induced by superconformal hidden sector, is one of the solutions for the mu/B_mu problem in gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking scenario. However, it is found that the minimal messenger model does not derive the correct electroweak symmetry breaking. In this paper we present a model which has the coupling of the messengers with the SO(10) GUT-symmetry breaking Higgs fields. The model is one of the realistic extensions of the gauge mediation model with superconformal hidden sector. It is shown that the extension is applicable for a…
We study a version of Starobinsky-like inflation in no-scale supergravity (SUGRA) where a Polonyi term in the hidden sector breaks supersymmetry (SUSY) after inflation, providing a link between the gravitino mass and inflation. We extend the theory to the visible sector and calculate the soft-SUSY breaking parameters depending on the modular weights in the superpotential and choice of Kähler potential. We are led to either no-scale SUGRA or pure gravity mediated SUSY breaking patterns, but with inflationary constraints on the Polonyi term setting a strict upper bound on the gravitino mass $m_…
The flavour messenger sectors and their impact on the soft SUSY breaking terms are investigated in SUSY flavour models. In the case when the flavour scale M is below the SUSY breaking mediation scale M_S, the universality of soft terms, even if assumed at M_S, is radiatively broken. We estimate this effect in a broad class of models. In the CKM basis that effect gives flavour off-diagonal soft masses comparable to the tree-level estimate based on the flavour symmetry.
The Higgs boson sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is investigated in a uniform way in the framework of the three most prominent soft SUSY-breaking scenarios, mSUGRA, mGMSB and mAMSB, especially concerning the Higgs searches at LEP2.
We investigate low-energy models of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking by means of vector-like gauge theories for dynamical SUSY breaking. It is not necessary to introduce messenger gauge interactions utilized so far to mediate the SUSY breaking to the standard-model sector, which reduces complication in the model building. We also consider various other ways of SUSY-breaking transmission.
Supersymmetric (SUSY) explanation of the discrepancy between the measurement of $(g-2)_μ$ and its SM prediction puts strong upper bounds on the chargino and smuon masses. At the same time, lower experimental limits on the chargino and smuon masses, combined with the Higgs mass measurement, lead to an upper bound on the stop masses. The current LHC limits on the chargino and smuon masses (for not too compressed spectrum) set the upper bound on the stop masses of about 10 TeV. The discovery potential of the future lepton and hadron colliders should lead to the discovery of SUSY if it is responsi…
We obtain the one- and two-loop renormalization group equations for soft SUSY breaking scalar interactions in general, semi-simple SUSY gauge model, by using the supergraph method. We find that the method simplifies the calculation significantly because of the non-renormalization theorem and also because of the property that the relevant divergences are derived by simple algebra from those in exact SUSY case. A disagreement with the existing result is found in $β^{(2)}(m^2)$ and its cause is briefly discussed.
In this article I review the consequences of radiative flavor violation (RFV) in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this framework the trilinear supersymmetry (SUSY)-breaking terms are the only source of flavor violation. Constraints on the parameter space come from Kaon mixing and b->s+gamma and are satisfied for SUSY masses of the order of 1 TeV. In addition, neutral Higgs penguins significantly contribute to B_s->mu^+mu^- and are capable of explaining the observed CP phase in the B_s system.
It has been known that in anomaly-mediated SUSY breaking model Affleck-Dine baryogenesis does not work due to trapping of Affleck-Dine field into charge-breaking minima. We show that when finite-temperature effect is properly taken into account and if reheating temperature is relatively high, the problem of falling into charge breaking global minima can be avoided and hence Affleck-Dine baryogenesis works. Moreover, for the LH_u flat direction we obtain a constraint on the mass of neutrino.
We investigate whether the Affleck-Dine mechanism can produce sufficient baryon number of the universe in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models, while evading the cosmological moduli problem by late-time entropy production. We find that the Q-ball formation renders the scenario very difficult to work, irrespective of the detail mechanism of the entropy production.
I discuss non-trivial effects in the soft SUSY breaking terms which appear when one integrates out heavy fields. The effects exist only when the SUSY breaking terms are non-universal. They may spoil (1) the hierarchy between the weak and high-energy scales, or (2) degeneracy among the squark masses even in the presense of a horizontal symmetry. I argue, in the end, that such new effects may be useful in probing physics at high-energy scales from TeV-scale experiments.
I review the physics capabilities of the machines proposed for the next generation of high-energy experimentation: in hadron physics, the LHC, and in electron physics, a $500$--$1500$ GeV $e^+e^-$ linear collider. Using for illustration two specific models of electroweak symmetry breaking, I show how the $pp$ and $e^+e^-$ techniques are expected to complement one another in the exploration of the next scale of physics. We study effects of SUSY particles in the unitarity triangle analysis and the CP asymmetries in b -> s decays. We consider three different SUSY models, the minimal supergravity, SU(5) SUSY GUT with right-handed neutrinos, and MSSM with U(2) flavor symmetry, and show that the patterns and correlations of deviations from the standard model will be useful to discriminate the different SUSY models in future B experiments.
We revisit four generations within the context of supersymmetry. We compute the perturbativity limits for the fourth generation Yukawa couplings and show that if the masses of the fourth generation lie within reasonable limits of their present experimental lower bounds, it is possible to have perturbativity only up to scales around 1000 TeV. Such low scales are ideally suited to incorporate gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking, where the mediation scale can be as low as 10-20 TeV. The minimal messenger model, however, is highly constrained. While lack of electroweak symmetry breaking rules ou…
We study the influence of messenger Yukawa couplings and top, bottom and $τ$ Yukawa couplings on the proton lifetime in SU(5) Supersymmetric GUT with dynamical supersymmetry breaking mechanism due to Dine and Nelson.
We have studied the predictions for the LSP decay within the framework of a radiatively broken unified supergravity model without R-parity. Assuming that Higgs/slepton mixing is the only source of R-parity breaking and responsible for the observed neutrino oscillations we obtain predictons for the LSP life-time and branching fractions.
In gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models, messengers transmit SUSY breaking from a partially hidden sector to the standard model sector via common standard model gauge interactions. The minimal set of messengers has quantum numbers of a $5 + \bar 5$ of SU(5); identical to the quantum numbers of the minimal Higgs sector of an SU(5) GUT. We show in a simple model with messenger masses of order the GUT scale that Higgs - messenger mixing quite naturally leads to a low energy MSSM with gluinos as the lightest supersymmetric particles [LSP]. We study the phenomenological consequences of such a model.
We study the magnitudes of soft SUSY breaking parameters in heterotic string models with anomalous U(1) symmetry. In most cases, D-term contribution to soft scalar masses is expected to be comparable to or dominant over other contributions provided that supersymmetry breaking is mediated by the gravitational interaction and/or an anomalous U(1) symmetry and the magnitude of vacuum energy is not more than of order $m_{3/2}^2 M^2$.
We analyze the flavor structure of the trilinear couplings in the different theoretical models of SUSY breaking. We generically obtain A_{ij}= A^L_i + A^R_j in all the models examined. In fact, this is the rigorous form when SUSY breaking effects appear through the Kahler metric of chiral fields or through wave-function renormalization. Indeed, the low-energy phenomenological requirements from the absence of charge and color breaking minima and the measurements in flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) observables strongly favor this restricted form of the trilinear matrices. As a straightforw…
We show that in supersymmetric grand unified theories new effective D=4 and D=5 operators for proton decay are induced by soft SUSY-breaking terms, when heavy GUT gauge bosons are integrated out, in addition to the standard D=6 ones. As a result, the proton lifetime in gauge mediated channels can be enhanced or even suppressed depending on the size of the heavy Higgses soft terms.
These lectures are a very brief introduction to low energy supersymmetry (SUSY). The approach to the construction of SUSY Lagrangians based on the superfield formalism is considered. The minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) is specified. The breakdown of gauge symmetry and Higgs phenomenology within the simplest SUSY extensions of the standard model (SM) are briefly reviewed. The upper bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson and little hierarchy problem in SUSY models are discussed.
We discuss a GUT realization of the supersymmetric triplet seesaw mechanism(recently proposed by us in hep-ph/0604083 and further analyzed in hep-ph/0607298) where the exchange of the heavy triplet states generates both neutrino masses and soft SUSY breaking terms.
To date, the properties of Q-balls arising from an Affleck-Dine condensate in gravity-mediated SUSY breaking have been obtained primarily through numerical simulations. In this work, we will derive the expected charge of the Q-balls formed in such a scenario through an analytical treatment. We will also examine the numerically observed difference between Q-ball formation in weakly charged condensates and formation in strongly charged condensates.
Some doubts have been expressed about low energy supersymmetry (SUSY) following the first run of the LHC. In this talk I will try to present a more upbeat view based on data, rather than theoretical expectations. In particular, I will make the following points: (a) in my opinion the most attractive candidate for dark matter (DM) is now the lightest neutralino with mass around 1 TeV and with well defined properties (a nearly pure higgsino). This follows primarily from a combination of the properties of the discovered Higgs boson, in particular its mass close to 125 Gev, and the relic density of…
We address the complementarity of the CERN Large Hadron Collider and an $e^+ e^-$ Linear Collider in determining SUSY model parameters for a particular SO(10) SUSY GUT case study.
We discuss an optimal $R$-parity breaking SUSY solution to the $R_b$ excess as well as the ALEPH 4-jet anomaly. The latter arises from the pair production of stop via chargino decay at LEP1.5, followed by its $R$--violating decay into a light quark pair. The model satisfies top quark and $Z$--boson decay constraints along with gaugino mass unification.
The supersymmetric version of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model is investigated in connection with the chiral symmetry breaking induced by a soft SUSY breaking term. It is found that the broken chiral symmetry due to the soft breaking term is restored at suitably high temperature and the symmetry restoration occurs as first-order phase transitions. The critical temperature at which the chiral symmetry is restored is determined as a function of the strength of the soft breaking term and the field coupling constant. The dynamical fermion mass is calculated at finite temperature. Some possible applica…
Gauge-mediated SUSY breaking with a messenger scale of order $10^{15}$ GeV has some interesting features. It can solve the flavor changing neutral current problem of supersymmetric models with predictions for superpartner masses which are identical to those of minimal supergravity models. It can however also lead to theories with novel experimental signatures. For example, we present a model in which the gluino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. We also review the present experimental status of a stable gluino.
The electroweak (EW) sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) can account for variety of experimental data. The EW particles with masses of a few hundred GeV evade the LHC searches owing to their small production cross sections. Such a light EW sector can in particular explain the reinforced $4.2\,σ$ discrepancy between the experimental result for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, \gmin2, and its Standard Model (SM) prediction. The lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), assumed to be the lightest neutralino, $\tildeχ_1^0$, as a Dark Matter (DM) candidate is furtherm…
We suggest new setup where SUSY breaking spurion F-term possesses lepton number. This setup not only modifies sparticle mass spectra but also realizes several new models, where neutrino mass is naturally induced through radiative corrections. We here suggest two new models; the first one is (i): pseudo-Dirac/Schizophrenic neutrino model, and the second one is (ii): pure Majorana neutrino model. We will also show this setup can naturally apply to the supersymmetric Zee-Babu model.
A spontaneously broken non-Abelian SU(3) family symmetry can generate a realistic form for quark, charged lepton and neutrino masses and mixing angles. It also gives a new solution to the SUSY flavour problem by ensuring near family degeneracy of the soft mass SUSY breaking terms. However the need to generate large third generation fermion masses means that the group must be strongly broken to SU(2) giving significant corrections to the third family squark and slepton masses. We investigate the phenomenological implications of such breaking and show that it leads to new solutions capable of fi…
Gaugino masses might provide useful information on the underlying scheme of supersymmetry breaking as they are least dependent on the unknown physics between the TeV scale and the high messenger scale of supersymmetry breaking. We discuss the pattern of low energy gaugino masses in various schemes of supersymmetry breaking together with the possibility to determine the gaugino masses at LHC.
If SUSY is discovered at the LHC, the task will immediately turn to determining the model of SUSY breaking. Here, we employ a Mixed Modulus-Anomaly Mediated SUSY Breaking (MMAMSB) model with very similar LHC phenomenology to the more conventionally studied Constrained Minimal SUSY Model (CMSSM) and minimal Anomaly Mediated SUSY Breaking (mAMSB) models. We then study whether the models can be distinguished and measured. If we only fit to the various mass edges and mass end-points from cascade decay chains that are normally studied, a unique determination and measurement of the model is problema…
In this paper two things are done. First, we propose a simple model of dynamical gauge-mediated SUSY breaking. This model incorporates a dynamical relaxation mechanism which solves the μ-problem with no light fields beyond those of the MSSM. In the second part of the paper we show how this mechanism is generalized and give two more examples in which it is incorporated.

We examine charge/colour breaking along directions in supersymmetric field space which are F and D-flat. We catalogue the dangerous directions and include some new ones which have not previously been considered. Analytic expressions for the resulting constraints are provided which are valid for all patterns of supersymmetry breaking. As an example we consider a recently proposed pattern of supersymmetry breaking derived in Horava-Witten M-theory, and show that there is no choice of parameters for which the physical vacuum is a global minimum.
We investigate the possibility of U(1)' mediation, leading to an effective SUSY where the first two family sfermions are above 100 TeV but the third family sfermions and the Higgs doublets are in the TeV region(or the light stop case). The U(1)' gaugino, Zprimino, needs not to be at a TeV scale, but needs to be somewhat lighter than the messenger scale. We consider two cases, one the mediation is only through U(1)' and the other through U(1)' and the electroweak hypercharge U(1)_Y. In the SUSY field theory framework, we calculate the superpartner mass spectra for these two cases. We also point…
The explanation of a 200 GeV R-parity violating squark to the HERA high-$Q^2$ anomaly would have an important impact on supersymmetry-breaking models. Here we show that a squark of mass around 200 GeV is disallowed in the minimal gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking models in the parameter space constrained by the radiative electroweak-symmetry breaking and the experimental lower limits on supersymmetric particles, even after including the large R-parity violating couplings. Supergravity motivated models can, on the other hand, give rise to these scalar quarks in a wide range of parameter space.
