A detailed investigation is made of the continuity, spectrum and mean ergodic properties of the Cesàro operator $C$ when acting on the strong duals of power series spaces of infinite type. There is a dramatic difference in the nature of the spectrum of $C$ depending on whether or not the strong dual space (which is always Schwartz) is nuclear.
We study weighted altered Cesàro and Copson spaces, which is non-ideal enlargement of the usual spaces. We give full characterization of dual spaces for the spaces.
We study abstract Cesàro spaces $CX$, which may be regarded as generalizations of Cesàro sequence spaces $ces_p$ and Cesàro function spaces $Ces_p(I)$ on $I = [0,1]$ or $I = [0,\infty)$, and also as the description of optimal domain from which Cesàro operator acts to $X$. We find the dual of such spaces in a very general situation. What is however even more important, we do it in the simplest possible way. Our proofs are more elementary than the known ones for $ces_p$ and $Ces_p(I)$. This is the point how our paper should be seen, i.e. not as generalization of known results, but rather like gr…
The discrete Cesàro operator $\mathsf{C}$ is investigated in strong duals of smooth sequence spaces of infinite type. Of main interest is its spectrum, which turns out to be distinctly different in the cases when the space is nuclear and when it is not.
The Fréchet (resp.\ (LB)) sequence spaces $ces(p+) := \cap_{r > p} ces(r), 1 \leq p < \infty $ (resp.\ $ ces (p-) := \cup_{ 1 < r < p} ces (r), 1 < p \leq \infty),$ are known to be very different to the classical sequence spaces $ \ell_ {p+} $ (resp., $ \ell_{p_{-}}).$ Both of these classes of non-normable spaces $ ces (p+), ces (p-)$ are defined via the family of reflexive Banach sequence spaces $ ces (p), 1 < p < \infty .$ The dual Banach spaces $ d (q), 1 < q < \infty ,$ of the discrete Cesàro spaces $ ces (p), 1 < p < \infty,$ were studied by G.\ Bennett, A.\ Jagers and others. Our aim is …
We investigate convolution operators in the sequence spaces $d_p$, for $1\le p<\infty$. These spaces, for $p>1$, arise as dual spaces of the \ces sequence spaces $ces_p$ thoroughly investigated by G.~Bennett. A detailed study is also made of the algebra of those sequences which convolve $d_p$ into $d_p$. It turns out that such multiplier spaces exhibit features which are very different to the classical multiplier spaces of $\ell^p$.
The goal of this paper is to present an isometric representation of the dual space to Cesàro function space $C_{p,w}$, $1<p<\infty$, induced by arbitrary positive weight function $w$ on interval $(0,l)$ where $0<l\leqslant\infty$. For this purpose given a strictly decreasing nonnegative function $Ψ$ on $(0,l)$, the notion of essential $Ψ$-concave majorant $\hat f$ of a measurable function $f$ is introduced and investigated. As applications it is shown that every slice of the unit ball of the Cesàro function space has diameter 2. Consequently Cesàro function spaces do not have the Radon-Nikodym…
In this paper, we give the characterization of the embeddings between weighted Cesàro function spaces. The proof is based on the duality technique, which reduces this problem to the characterizations of some direct and reverse Hardy-type inequalities and iterated Hardy-type inequalities.
We give a short proof of the recent results that, for every $1\leq p< \infty,$ the Ces{à}ro function space $Ces_p(I)$ is not a dual space, has the weak Banach-Saks property and does not have the Radon-Nikodym property.
We study real and complex interpolation of abstract Cesàro, Copson and Tandori spaces, including the description of Calderón-Lozanovski{\v ı} construction for those spaces. The results may be regarded as generalizations of interpolation for Cesàro spaces $Ces_p(I)$ in the case of real method, but they are new even for $Ces_p(I)$ in the case of complex method. Some results for more general interpolation functors are also presented. The investigations show an interesting phenomenon that there is a big difference between interpolation of Cesàro function spaces in the cases of finite and infinite …
In this paper, we introduce some difference sequence spaces in bigeometric calculus. We determine the $α$-duals of these sequence spaces and study their matrix transformations. We also develop an interpolating polynomial in bigeometric calculus which is analogous to the classical Hermite interpolating polynomial.
We give the characterization of the embeddings between weighted Tandori and Cesàro function spaces using the combination of duality arguments for weighted Lebesgue spaces and weighted Tandori spaces with estimates for the iterated integral operators.
We investigate the isomorphic structure of the Cesàro spaces and their duals, the Tandori spaces. The main result states that the Cesàro function space $Ces_{\infty}$ and its sequence counterpart $ces_{\infty}$ are isomorphic, which answers to the question posted in \cite{AM09}. This is rather surprising since $Ces_{\infty}$ has no natural lattice predual similarly as the known Talagrand's example \cite{Ta81}. We prove that neither $ces_{\infty}$ is isomorphic to $l_{\infty}$ nor $Ces_{\infty}$ is isomorphic to the Tandori space $\widetilde{L_1}$ with the norm $\|f\|_{\widetilde{L_1}}= \|\wide…
A complex scalar $λ$ is said to be an extended eigenvalue of a bounded linear operator $T$ on a complex Banach space if there is a nonzero operator $X$ such that $TX= λXT.$ Such an operator $X$ is called an extended eigenoperator of $T$ corresponding to the extended eigenvalue $λ.$ The purpose of this paper is to give a description of the extended eigenvalues for the discrete Cesàro operator $C_0,$ the finite continuous Cesàro operator $C_1$ and the infinite continuous Cesàro operator $C_\infty$ defined on the complex Banach spaces $\ell^p,$ $L^p[0,1]$ and $L^p[0,\infty)$ for $1 < p <\infty$ b…
We study several notions of boundedness for operators. It is known that any power bounded operator is absolutely Cesàro bounded and strong Kreiss bounded (in particular, uniformly Kreiss bounded). The converses do not hold in general. In this note, we give examples of topologically mixing absolutely Cesàro bounded operators on $\ell^p(\mathbb{N})$, $1\le p < \infty$, which are not power bounded, and provide examples of uniformly Kreiss bounded operators which are not absolutely Cesàro bounded. These results complement very limited number of known examples (see \cite{Shi} and \cite{AS}). In \ci…
In this paper embeddings between weighted Copson function spaces ${\operatorname{Cop}}_{p_1,q_1}(u_1,v_1)$ and weighted Cesàro function spaces ${\operatorname{Ces}}_{p_2,q_2}(u_2,v_2)$ are characterized. In particular, two-sided estimates of the optimal constant $c$ in the inequality \begin{equation*} \bigg( \int_0^{\infty} \bigg( \int_0^t f(τ)^{p_2}v_2(τ)\,dτ\bigg)^{\frac{q_2}{p_2}} u_2(t)\,dt\bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_2}} \le c \bigg( \int_0^{\infty} \bigg( \int_t^{\infty} f(τ)^{p_1} v_1(τ)\,dτ\bigg)^{\frac{q_1}{p_1}} u_1(t)\,dt\bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_1}}, \end{equation*} where $p_1,\,p_2,\,q_1,\,q_2 \in…
In this work, we give well-known results related to some properties, dual spaces and matrix transformations of the sequence space bv and introduce the matrix domain of space bv with arbitrary triangle matrix A. Afterward, we choose the matrix A as Cesàro mean of order one, generalized weighted mean and Riesz mean and compute alpha-; beta- gamma-duals of these spaces. And also, we characterize the matrix classes of the new spaces.
We investigate structure of the optimal domains for the Hardy-type operators including, for example, the classical Cesàro, Copson and Volterra operators as well as for some of their generalizations. We prove that, in some sense, the abstract Cesàro and Copson function spaces are closely related to the space $L^1$, namely, they contain "in the middle" a complemented copy of $L^1[0,1]$, asymptotically isometric copy of $\ell^1$ and also can be renormed to contain an isometric copy of $L^1[0,1]$. Moreover, the generalized Tandori function spaces are quite similar to $L^\infty$ because they contai…
Denote by $ B_X $ the unit ball of an infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space $ X. $ Let $ψ\in H(B_X),$ the space of all holomorphic functions on the unit ball $B_X,$ $φ\in S(B_X)$ the set of holomorphic self-maps of $B_X. $ Let $C_{ψ, φ}: \mathcal B_ν(B_X)$ (and $ \mathcal B_{ν,0}(B_X)$) $\to \mathcal B_μ(B_X) $ (and $ \mathcal B_{μ,0}(B_X)$) be weighted extended Cesàro operators induced by products of the extended Cesàro operator $ C_φ$ and integral operator $T_ψ.$ In this paper, we characterize the boundedness and compactness of $ C_{ψ,φ} $ via the estimates for the restrictions of $ ψ$ …
An important result on submajorization, which goes back to Hardy, Littlewood and Pólya, states that $b\preceq a$ if and only if there is a doubly stochastic matrix $A$ such that $b=Aa$. We prove that under monotonicity assumptions on vectors $a$ and $b$ respective matrix $A$ may be chosen monotone. This result is then applied to show that $(\widetilde{L^p},L^{\infty})$ is a Calderón couple for $1\leq p<\infty $, where $\widetilde{L^{p}}$ is the Köthe dual of the Cesàro space $Ces_{p'}$ (or equivalently the down space $L^{p'}_{\downarrow}$). In particular, $(\widetilde{L^1},L^{\infty})$ is a Ca…
We study the lattice of closed ideals in the algebra of continuous linear operators acting on $p$th Tandori and $p'$th Cesàro sequence spaces, $1\leqslant p<\infty$, which we show are isomorphic to the classical sequence spaces $(\oplus_{n=1}^\infty\ell_\infty^n)_p$ and $(\oplus_{n=1}^\infty\ell_1^n)_{p'}$, respectively. We also show that Tandori sequence spaces are complemented in certain Lorentz sequence spaces, and that the lattice of closed ideals for certain other Lorentz and Garling sequence spaces has infinite cardinality.
Description of linear continuous functionals on a space of rapidly decreasing infinitely differentiable functions on an unbounded closed convex set in $\mathbb R^n$ in terms of their Fourier-Laplace transform is obtained.
We introduce and study dual $n_1$-Appell-like systems which are the simple generalization of generalized dual Appell systems in Infinite-Dimensional Analysis (IDA). We study connected with these systems objects of IDA: the analogues of Kondratiev spaces, $S$-transform, characterization theorems etc. The results we obtained are useful to application in the theory of probability.
We consider a space of infinitely smooth functions on an unbounded closed convex set in ${\mathbb R}^n$. It is shown that each function of this space can be extended to an entire function in ${\mathbb C}^n$ satisfying some prescribed growth condition. Description of linear continuous functionals on this space in terms of their Fourier-Laplace transform is obtained. Also a variant of the Paley-Wiener-Schwartz theorem for tempered distributions is given it the paper.
Finite-dimensional linear programs satisfy strong duality (SD) and have the "dual pricing" (DP) property. The (DP) property ensures that, given a sufficiently small perturbation of the right-hand-side vector, there exists a dual solution that correctly "prices" the perturbation by computing the exact change in the optimal objective function value. These properties may fail in semi-infinite linear programming where the constraint vector space is infinite dimensional. Unlike the finite-dimensional case, in semi-infinite linear programs the constraint vector space is a modeling choice. We show th…
Techniques from Descriptive Set Theory are applied in order to study the Topological Complexity of families of operators naturally connected to ergodic operators in infinite dimensional Banach Spaces. The families of ergodic, uniform-ergodic,Cesaro-bounded and power-bounded operators are shown to be Borel sets, while the family of super-ergodic operators is shown to be either coanalytic or Borel according to specific structures of the Space. Moreover, trees and coanalytic ranks are introduced to characterize super-ergodic operators as well as spaces where the above classes of operators do not …
An infinite dimensional Laplacian defined as the Cesáro mean of the second order directional derivatives on manifold is considered. This Laplacian is parameterized by the choice of a curve in the group of orthogonal rotations. It is shown that, under certain conditions on the curve, this operator is related to instantons on a 4-dimensional manifold.
In this paper we provide further studies of the Fenchel duality theory in the general frame work of locally convex topological vector (LCTV) spaces. We prove the validity of the Fenchel strong duality under some qualification conditions via generalized relative interiors imposed on the epigraphs and the domains of the functions involved. Our results directly generalize the classical Fenchel-Rockafellar theorem on strong duality from finite dimensions to LCTV spaces.
We work out axioms for the duals $G\subset U_N^+$ of the finite quantum permutation groups, $F\subset S_N^+$ with $|F|<\infty$, and we discuss how the basic theory of such quantum permutation groups partly simplifies in the dual setting. We discuss as well some potential extensions to the infinite case, in connection with the well-known question of axiomatizing the discrete quantum group actions on the infinite graphs.
For the Lie algebra $\g$ of a connected infinite-dimensional Lie group~$G$, there is a natural duality between so-called semi-equicontinuous weak-*-closed convex Ad^*(G)-invariant subsets of the dual space $\g'$ and Ad(G)-invariant lower semicontinuous positively homogeneous convex functions on open convex cones in $\g$. In this survey, we discuss various aspects of this duality and some of its applications to a more systematic understanding of open invariant cones and convexity properties of coadjoint orbits. In particular, we show that root decompositions with respect to elliptic Cartan suba…
