We extend the Caffarelli-Świech-Winter $C^{1,α}$ regularity estimates to $L^p$-viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations in nondivergence form with superlinear growth in the gradient and unbounded coefficients. As an application, in addition to the usual $W^{2,p}$ results, we prove the existence of positive eigenvalues for proper operators with nonnegative unbounded weight, in particular for Pucci's operators with unbounded coefficients.
We define some Nehari-type constraints using an orthogonal decomposition of the Sobolev space $H^1_0$ and prove the existence of multibump nodal solutions for an indefinite superlinear elliptic problem.
We establish existence and regularity of positive solutions for a class of quasilinear elliptic systems with singular and superlinear terms. The approach is based on sub-supersolution methods for systems of quasilinear singular equations and the Schauder's fixed point Theorem.
We are concerned with fully nonlinear possibly degenerate elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs) with superlinear terms with respect to $Du$. We prove several comparison principles among viscosity solutions which may be unbounded under some polynomial-type growth conditions. Our main result applies to PDEs with convex superlinear terms but we also obtain some results in nonconvex cases. Applications to monotone systems of PDEs are given.
We describe a new method of proving a priori bounds for positive supersolutions and solutions of superlinear elliptic PDE, based on global weak Harnack inequalities and a quantitative Hopf lemma. Novel results based on the method include: (i) equations without a boundary condition on the whole boundary; (ii) equations with nonlinearities which do not have precise growth at infinity; (iii) systems of inequalities with opposite sign.
In this paper we consider second order fully nonlinear operators with an additive superlinear gradient term. Like in the pioneering paper of Brezis for the semilinear case, we obtain the existence of entire viscosity solutions, defined in all the space, without assuming global bounds. A uniqueness result is also obtained for special gradient terms, subject to a convexity/concavity type assumption where superlinearity is essential and has to be handled in a different way from the linear case.
Results on existence and multiplicity of solutions for a nonlinear elliptic problem driven by the $Φ$-Laplace operator are established. We employ minimization arguments on suitable Nehari manifolds to build a negative and a positive ground state solutions. In order to find a nodal solution we employ additionally the well known Deformation Lemma and Topological Degree Theory.
The present work has two objectives. First, we prove that a weight\-ed superlinear elliptic problem has infinitely many nonradial solutions in the unit ball. Second, we obtain the same conclusion in annuli for a more general nonlinearity which also involves a weight. We use a lower estimate of the energy level of radial solutions with $k-1$ zeros in the interior of the domain and a simple counting. Uniqueness results due to Tanaka \cite[2008]{Tanaka1} and \cite[2007]{Tanaka2} are very useful in our approach.

In this paper, we study the existence of solutions for the following superlinear elliptic equation with nonlinear boundary value condition $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -Δu+u=|u|^{r-2}u &\text{in} \; Ω,\\ \\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial ν}=|u|^{q-2}u &\text{on}\;\partialΩ, \end{array} \right. $$ where $Ω\subset \mathbb R^N, N\geq 3$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary. We will prove the existence results for the above equation under four different cases: (i) Both $q$ and $r$ are subcritical; (ii) $r$ is critical and $q$ is subcritical; (iii) $r$ is subcritical and $q$ is critical; (iv) Both …
In this paper we are going to show the existence of a nontrivial solution to the following model problem, \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{lll} -Δ(u) = 2uln(1+u^2)+\frac{|u|^2}{1+u^2}2u+u(sin(u)-cos(u)) \mbox{a.e. on } Ω\frac{\partial u}{\partial η} = 0 {a.e. on} \partial Ω. \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} As one can see the right hand side is superlinear. But we can not use an Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition in order to obtain that the corresponding energy functional satisfies (PS) condition. However, it follows that the energy functional satisfies the Cerami (PS) condition.
Let $M$ be a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold and let $σ$ be a Radon measure on $M$. We study the problem of existence or non-existence of positive solutions to a semilinear elliptic inequaliy \begin{equation*} -Δu\geq σu^{q}\quad \text{in}\,\,M, \end{equation*} where $q>1$. We obtain necessary and sufficent criteria for existence of positive solutions in terms of Green function of $Δ$. In particular, explicit necessary and sufficient conditions are given when $M$ has nonnegative Ricci curvature everywhere in $M$, or more generally when Green's function satisfies the 3G-inequality.
This paper is concerned with the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with superlinear logistic degradation, \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u \nabla v) + ξ\nabla\cdot (u \nabla w) + λu - μu^k, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δv + αu - βv, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δw + γu - δw, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0, \end{cases} \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, in a ball $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \ge 3$), with constant parameters $λ\in \mathbb{R}$, $k>1$, $μ, χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$. Blow-up phenomena in the system have been well investigated in the c…
Let $(V,μ)$ be an infinite, connected, locally finite weighted graph. We study the problem of existence or non-existence of positive solutions to a semi-linear elliptic inequality \begin{equation*} Δu+u^σ\leq0\quad \text{in}\,\,V, \end{equation*} where $Δ$ is the standard graph Laplacian on $V$ and $σ>0$. For $σ\in(0,1]$, the inequality admits no nontrivial positive solution. For $σ>1$, assuming condition \textbf{($p_0$)} on $(V,μ)$, we obtain a sharp condition for nonexistence of positive solutions in terms of the volume growth of the graph, that is \begin{equation*} μ(o,n)\lesssim n^{\frac{2…
We study the problem of the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions to a superlinear second-order divergence type elliptic equation with measurable coefficients $(*)$: $-\nabla\cdot a\cdot\nabla u=u^p$ in an unbounded cone--like domain $G\subset\bf R^N$ $(N\ge 3)$. We prove that the critical exponent $p^*(a,G)=\inf\{p>1 : (*) \hbox{has a positive supersolution in} G\}$ for a nontrivial cone-like domain is always in $(1,N/(N-2))$ and in contrast with exterior domains depends both on the geometry of the domain $G$ and the coefficients $a$ of the equation.
In this paper, using Mountain Pass Lemma and Linking Argument, we prove the existence of nontrivial weak solutions for the Dirichlet problem for the superlinear equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type in the case where the parameter $λ\in (0, λ_2)$, $λ_2$ is the second positive eigenvalue of the quasilinear elliptic equation of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type.
In this paper we study quasilinear elliptic equations driven by the double phase operator along with a reaction that has a singular and a parametric superlinear term and with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition of critical growth. Based on a new equivalent norm for Musielak-Orlicz Sobolev spaces and the Nehari manifold along with the fibering method we prove the existence of at least two weak solutions provided the parameter is sufficiently small.
We provide Sobolev estimates for solutions of first order Hamilton-Jacobi equations with Hamiltonians which are superlinear in the gradient variable. We also show that the solutions are differentiable almost everywhere. The proof relies on an inverse Hölder inequality. Applications to mean field games are discussed.
In this note, we prove $\mathcal{C}^{1,γ}$ regularity for solutions of some fully nonlinear degenerate elliptic equations with "superlinear" and "subquadratic " Hamiltonian terms. As an application, we complete the results of \cite{BDL1} concerning the associated ergodic problem, proving, among other facts, the uniqueness, up to constants, of the ergodic function.
We provide the structure of regular/singular fast/slow decay radially symmetric solutions for a class of superlinear elliptic equations with an in- definite weight on the nonlinearity f (u, r). In particular we are interested in the case where f is positive in a ball and negative outside, or in the re- versed situation. We extend the approach to elliptic equations in presence of Hardy potentials. By the use of Fowler transformation we study the corresponding dynamical systems, presenting the construction of invariant manifolds when the global existence of solutions is not ensured.
We revisit rescaling methods for nonlinear elliptic and parabolic problems and show that, by suitable modifications, they may be used for nonlinearities that are not scale invariant even asymptotically and whose behavior can be quite far from power like. In this enlarged framework, by adapting the doubling-rescaling method from [37, 38], we show that the equivalence found there between universal estimates and Liouville theorems remains valid. In the parabolic case we also prove a Liouville type theorem for a rather large class of non scale invariant nonlinearities. This leads to a number of ne…
Let $Γ$ denote a smooth simple curve in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $N\geq2$, possibly with boundary. Let $Ω_{R}$ be the open normal tubular neighborhood of radius 1 of the expanded curve $RΓ:=\{Rx\mid x\in Γ\smallsetminus\partialΓ\}$. Consider the superlinear problem $-Δu+λu=f(u)$ on the domains $Ω_{R}$, as $R\rightarrow \infty$, with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. We prove the existence of multibump solutions with bumps lined up along $RΓ$ with alternating signs. The function $f$ is superlinear at 0 and at $\infty$, but it is not assumed to be odd. If the boundary of the curve is nonempty o…
We present a variational framework for studying the existence and regularity of solutions to elliptic free boundary problems that do not necessarily minimize energy. As applications, we obtain mountain pass solutions of critical and subcritical superlinear free boundary problems, and establish full regularity of the free boundary in dimension $N = 2$ and partial regularity in higher dimensions.
We consider the following problem $ -Δ_{p}u= h(x,u) \mbox{ in }Ω$, $u\in W^{1,p}_{0}(Ω)$, where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $1<p<N$, with a smooth boundary. In this paper we assume that $h(x,u)=a(x)f(u)+b(x)g(u)$ such that $f$ is regularly varying of index $p-1$ and superlinear at infinity. The function $g$ is a $p$-sublinear function at zero. The coefficients $a$ and $b$ belong to $L^{k}(Ω)$ for some $k>\frac{N}{p}$ and they are without sign condition. Firstly, we show a priori bound on solutions, then by using variational arguments, we prove the existence of at least two non…
We consider in this note one-side Liouville properties for viscosity solutions of various fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic inequalities, whose prototype is $F(x,D^2u)\geq H_i(x,u,Du)$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$, where $H_i$ has superlinear growth in the gradient variable. After a brief survey on the existing literature, we discuss the validity or the failure of the Liouville property in the model cases $H_1(u,Du)=u^q+|Du|^γ$, $H_2(u,Du)=u^q|Du|^γ$ and $H_3(x,u,Du)=\pm u^q|Du|^γ-b(x)\cdot Du$, where $q\geq0$, $γ>1$ and $b$ is a suitable velocity field. Several counterexamples and open problems are tho…
The existence and multiplicity of solutions for a class of non-local elliptic boundary value problems with superlinear source functions are investigated in this paper. Using variational methods, we examine the changes arise in the solution behaviours as a result of the non-local effect. Comparisons are made of the results here with those of the elliptic boundary value problem in the absence of the non-local term under the same prescribed conditions to highlight this effect of non-locality on the solution behaviours. Our results here demonstrate that the complexity of the solution structures is…
In this article we consider a cascaded taxis model for two proliferating and degrading species which thrive on the same nutrient but orient their movement according to different schemes. In particular, we assume the first group, the foragers, to orient their movement directly along an increasing gradient of the food density, while the second group, the exploiters, instead track higher densities of the forager group. Specifically, we will investigate an initial boundary-value problem for a prototypical forager-exploiter model of the form \begin{align*} \left\{ \begin{array}{r@{\,}c@{\,}l@{\quad…
We consider a class of Fokker--Planck equations with linear diffusion and superlinear drift enjoying a formal Wasserstein-like gradient flow structure with convex mobility function. In the drift-dominant regime, the equations have a finite critical mass above which the measure minimising the associated entropy functional displays a singular component. Our approach, which addresses the one-dimensional case, is based on a reformulation of the problem in terms of the pseudo-inverse distribution function. Motivated by the structure of the equation in the new variables, we establish a general frame…
In this paper, we consider the Hamiltonian elliptic system in dimension two\begin{equation}\label{1.5}\aligned \left\{ \begin{array}{lll} -ε^2Δu+V(x)u=g(v)\ & \text{in}\quad \mathbb{R}^2,\\ -ε^2Δv+V(x)v=f(u)\ & \text{in}\quad \mathbb{R}^2, \end{array}\right.\endaligned \end{equation} where $V\in C(\mathbb{R}^2)$ has local minimum points, and $f,g\in C^1(\mathbb{R})$ are assumed to be either superlinear or asymptotically linear at infinity and of subcritical exponential growth in the sense of Trudinger-Moser inequality. Under only a local condition on $V$, we obtain a family of semiclassical st…
In this paper, based on some prior estimates, we show that the essential spectrum $λ=0$ is a bifurcation point for an superlinear elliptic equation with only local conditions, which generalizes a series of earlier results on an open problem proposed by C. A. Stuart in 1983 [Lecture Notes in Mathematics, 1017].
In the present paper, we investigate the regularity and symmetry properties of weak solutions to semilinear elliptic equations which are locally stable.
We establish an optimal C^{1,α}-regularity for viscosity solutions of degenerate/singular fully nonlinear elliptic equations by finding minimal regularity requirements on the associated operator.
We investigate stable solutions of elliptic equations of the type \begin{equation*} \left \{ \begin{aligned} (-Δ)^s u&=λf(u) \qquad {\mbox{ in $B_1 \subset \R^{n}$}} \\ u&= 0 \qquad{\mbox{ on $\partial B_1$,}}\end{aligned}\right . \end{equation*} where $n\ge2$, $s \in (0,1)$, $λ\geq 0$ and $f$ is any smooth positive superlinear function. The operator $(-Δ)^s$ stands for the fractional Laplacian, a pseudo-differential operator of order $2s$. According to the value of $λ$, we study the existence and regularity of weak solutions $u$.
In this note we study the global regularity in the Morrey spaces for the second derivatives for the strong solutions of non variational elliptic equations.
