We continue the study of solitons over noncommutative tori from the perspective of time-frequency analysis and treat the case of a general topological charge. Solutions are associated with vector bundles of higher rank over noncommutative tori. We express these vector bundles in terms of vector-valued Gabor frames and apply the duality theory of Gabor analysis to show that Gaussians are solitons of general topological charge over noncommutative tori. An energy functional for projections over noncommutative tori is the basis for the self and anti-self duality equations of the solitons which turns out to have a reformulation in terms of Gabor atoms and we prove that projections generated by Gaussians minimize this energy functional. Finally, we comment on the case of the Moyal plane and the associated continuous vector-valued Gabor frames and show that Gaussians are the only class of solitons.
We prove that curved noncommutative tori, introduced by Dabrowski and Sitarz, are Leibniz quantum compact metric spaces and that they form a continuous family over the group of invertible matrices with entries in the commutant of the quantum tori in the regular representation, when this group is endowed with a natural length function.
We show that the rotation algebras are limit of matrix algebras in a very strong sense of convergence for algebras with additional Lipschitz structure. Our results generalize to higher dimensional noncommutative tori and operator valued coefficients. In contrast to previous results by Rieffel, Li, Kerr, and Latrémolière we use Lipschitz norms induced by the `carré du champ' of certain natural dynamical systems, including the heat semigroup.
In this paper we construct a version of Ricci flow for noncommutative 2-tori, based on a spectral formulation in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenfunction of the Laplacian and recent results on the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for noncommutative tori.
In this paper, we study a mirror duality on a generalized complex torus and a noncommutative complex torus. First, we derive a symplectic version of Riemann condition using mirror duality on ordinary complex tori. Based on this we will find a mirror correspondence on generalized complex tori and generalize the mirror duality on complex tori to the case of noncommutative complex tori.
We use results from time-frequency analysis and Gabor analysis to construct new classes of sigma-model solitons over the Moyal plane and over noncommutative tori, taken as source spaces, with a target space made of two points. A natural action functional leads to self-duality equations for projections in the source algebra. Solutions, having non-trivial topological content, are constructed via suitable Morita duality bimodules.
We construct a 2-parameter family of unitarily equivalent irreducible representations of the triply extended group $\g$ of translations of $\mathbb{R}^{4}$ associated with a family of its 4-dimensional coadjoint orbits and show how a continuous 2-parameter family of gauge potentials emerges from these unitarly equivalent representations. We show that the Landau and the symmetric gauges of noncommutative quantum mechanics, widely used in the literature, in fact, belong to this 2-parameter family of gauges. We also provide an explicit construction of noncommutative 4-tori and compute the associa…
We derive the Kac-Paljutkin finite-dimensional Hopf algebras as finite fibrations of the quantum double torus and generalize the construction for quantum multiple tori.
This is an overview of recent results aimed at developing a geometry of noncommutative tori with real multiplication, with the purpose of providing a parallel, for real quadratic fields, of the classical theory of elliptic curves with complex multiplication for imaginary quadratic fields. This talk concentrates on two main aspects: the relation of Stark numbers to the geometry of noncommutative tori with real multiplication, and the shadows of modular forms on the noncommutative boundary of modular curves, that is, the moduli space of noncommutative tori. To appear in Proc. ICM 2010.
We construct an approximation to field theories on the noncommutative torus based on soliton projections and partial isometries which together form a matrix algebra of functions on the sum of two circles. The matrix quantum mechanics is applied to the perturbative dynamics of scalar field theory, to tachyon dynamics in string field theory, and to the Hamiltonian dynamics of noncommutative gauge theory in two dimensions. We also describe the adiabatic dynamics of solitons on the noncommutative torus and compare various classes of noncommutative solitons on the torus and the plane.
We consider the Schrödinger equation with a Hamiltonian given by a second order difference operator with nonconstant growing coefficients, on the half one dimensional lattice. This operator appeared first naturally in the construction and dynamics of noncommutative solitons in the context of noncommutative field theory. We construct a ground state soliton for this equation and analyze its properties. In particular we arrive at $\ell^{\infty}$ and $\ell^{1}$ estimates as well as a quasi-exponential spatial decay rate.
We review recent developments of soliton theories and integrable systems on noncommutative spaces. The former part is a brief review of noncommutative gauge theories focusing on ADHM construction of noncommutative instantons. The latter part is a report on recent results of existence of infinite conserved quantities and exact multi-soliton solutions for noncommutative Gelfand-Dickey hierarchies. Some examples of noncommutative Ward's conjecture are also presented. Finally, we discuss future directions on noncommutative Sato's theories, twistor theories and so on.
We consider the Schrödinger equation with a Hamiltonian given by a second order difference operator with nonconstant growing coefficients, on the half one dimensional lattice. This operator appeared first naturally in the construction and dynamics of noncommutative solitons in the context of noncommutative field theory. We prove pointwise in time decay estimates, with the optimal decay rate $t^{-1}\log^{-2}t$ generically. We use a novel technique involving generating functions of orthogonal polynomials to achieve this estimate.
We study the variational equations for solitons in noncommutative scalar field theories in an even number of spatial dimensions. We prove the existence of spherically symmetric solutions for a sufficiently large noncommutativity parameter $θ$ and we prove the absence of spherically symmetric solutions for small $θ$.
A survey of the interrelationships between matrix models and field theories on the noncommutative torus is presented. The discretization of noncommutative gauge theory by twisted reduced models is described along with a rigorous definition of the large N continuum limit. The regularization of arbitrary noncommutative field theories by means of matrix quantum mechanics and its connection to noncommutative solitons is also discussed.
The spectral eta function for certain families of Dirac operators on noncommutative $3$-torus is considered and the regularity at zero is proved. By using variational techniques, we show that $η_{D}(0)$ is a conformal invariant. By studying the Laurent expansion at zero of $\text{TR} (|D|^{-z})$, the conformal invariance of $ζ'_{|D|}(0)$ for noncommutative $3$-torus is proved. Finally, for the coupled Dirac operator, a local formula for the variation $\partial_Aη_{D+A}(0)$ is derived which is the analogue of the so called induced Chern-Simons term in quantum field theory literature.
We discuss extension of soliton theory and integrable systems to noncommutative spaces, focusing on integrable aspects of noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations. We give wide class of exact solutions by solving a Riemann-Hilbert problem for the Atiyah-Ward ansatz and present Backlund transformations for the G=U(2) noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations. We find that one kind of noncommutative determinants, quasideterminants, play crucial roles in the construction of noncommutative solutions. We also discuss reduction of a noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equatio…
We study a technical problem arising from the spectral geometry of noncommutative tori: the small time heat trace asymptotic associated to a general second order elliptic operator. We extend the rearrangement operators in the conformal case to the general setting using hypergeometric integrals over Grassmannians. The main result is the explicit formula of the second heat coefficient in terms of the coefficients. When specializing to examples in conformal case, we not only recover results in previous works but also obtain some extra functional relations whose validation provides experimental su…
We show that it is possible to construct a quantum field theory that is invariant under the translation of the noncommutative parameter $θ_{μν}$. This is realized in a noncommutative cohomological field theory. As an example, a noncommutative cohomological scalar field theory is constructed, and its partition function is calculated. The partition function is the Euler number of Gopakumar, Minwalla and Strominger (GMS) soliton space.
We compute the Ricci curvature of a curved noncommutative three torus. The computation is done both for conformal and non-conformal perturbations of the flat metric. To perturb the flat metric, the standard volume form on the noncommutative three torus is perturbed and the corresponding perturbed Laplacian is analyzed. Using Connes' pseudodifferential calculus for the noncommutative tori, we explicitly compute the second term of the short time heat kernel expansion for the perturbed Laplacians on functions and on 1-forms. The Ricci curvature is defined by localizing heat traces suitably. Equiv…
We study analytic aspects of U(n) gauge theory over a toric noncommutative manifold $M_θ$. We analyse moduli spaces of solutions to the self-dual Yang-Mills equations on U(2) vector bundles over four-manifolds $M_θ$, showing that each such moduli space is either empty or a smooth Hausdorff manifold whose dimension we explicitly compute. In the special case of the four-sphere $S^4_θ$ we find that the moduli space of U(2) instantons with fixed second Chern number $k$ is a smooth manifold of dimension $8k-3$.
When considered as submanifolds of Euclidean space, the Riemannian geometry of the round sphere and the Clifford torus may be formulated in terms of Poisson algebraic expressions involving the embedding coordinates, and a central object is the projection operator, projecting tangent vectors in the ambient space onto the tangent space of the submanifold. In this note, we point out that there exist noncommutative analogues of these projection operators, which implies a very natural definition of noncommutative tangent spaces as particular projective modules. These modules carry an induced connec…
We study exact multi-soliton solutions of integrable hierarchies on noncommutative space-times which are represented in terms of quasi-determinants of Wronski matrices by Etingof, Gelfand and Retakh. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the multi-soliton solutions and found that the asymptotic configurations in soliton scattering process can be all the same as commutative ones, that is, the configuration of N-soliton solution has N isolated localized energy densities and the each solitary wave-packet preserves its shape and velocity in the scattering process. The phase shifts are also the sam…
We consider the Schrödinger equation with a (matrix) Hamiltonian given by a second order difference operator with nonconstant growing coefficients, on the half one dimensional lattice. This operator appeared first naturally in the construction and dynamics of noncommutative solitons in the context of noncommutative field theory. We completely determine the spectrum of the Hamiltonian linearized around a ground state soliton and prove the optimal decay rate of $t^{-1}\log^{-2}t$ for the associated time decay estimate. We use a novel technique involving generating functions of orthogonal polynom…
We discuss exact multi-soliton solutions to integrable hierarchies on noncommutative space-times in diverse dimension. The solutions are represented by quasi-determinants in compact forms. We study soliton scattering processes in the asymptotic region where the configurations could be real-valued. We find that the asymptotic configurations in the soliton scatterings can be all the same as commutative ones, that is, the configuration of N-soliton solution has N isolated localized lump of energy and each solitary wave-packet lump preserves its shape and velocity in the scattering process. The ph…
We recall a construction of non-commutative algebras related to a one-parameter family of (deformed) spheres and tori, and show that in the case of tori, the *-algebras can be completed into C*-algebras isomorphic to the standard non-commutative torus. As the former was constructed in the context of matrix (or fuzzy) geometries, it provides an important link to the framework of non-commutative geometry, and opens up for a concrete way to study deformations of non-commutative tori. Furthermore, we show how the well-known fuzzy sphere and fuzzy torus can be obtained as formal scaling limits of f…
This thesis is designed for a comprehensive review of noncommutative (BPS) solitons with applications to D-brane dynamics including our works. We focus on noncommutative instantons and monopoles and study various aspects of the exact solutions by using Atiyah-Drinfeld-Hitchin-Manin (ADHM) and Nahm constructions. Finally we propose noncommutative extensions of integrable systems and soliton theories in lower dimensions in collaboration with Kouichi Toda, which would pioneer a new study area of integrable systems. Appendix is devoted to a brief and systematic review of formal aspects of ADHM/Nah…
A noncommutative KdV-type equation is introduced extending the Baecklund chart in [S. Carillo, M. Lo Schiavo, and C. Schiebold, SIGMA 12 (2016)]. This equation, called meta-mKdV here, is linked by Cole-Hopf transformations to the two noncommutative versions of the mKdV equations listed in [P.J. Olver and V.V. Sokolov Commun. Math. Phys. 193 (1998), Theorem 3.6]. For this meta-mKdV, and its mirror counterpart, recursion operators, hierarchies and an explicit solution class are derived.
We construct a new class of scalar noncommutative multi-solitons on an arbitrary Kahler manifold by using Berezin's geometric approach to quantization and its generalization to deformation quantization. We analyze the stability condition which arises from the leading 1/hbar correction to the soliton energy and for homogeneous Kahler manifolds obtain that the stable solitons are given in terms of generalized coherent states. We apply this general formalism to a number of examples, which include the sphere, hyperbolic plane, torus and general symmetric bounded domains. As a general feature we no…
We study the relationship between ADHM/Nahm construction and ``solution generating technique'' of BPS solitons in noncommutative gauge theories. ADHM/Nahm construction and ``solution generating technique'' are the most strong ways to construct exact BPS solitons. Localized solitons are the solitons which are generated by the ``solution generating technique.'' The shift operators which play crucial roles in ``solution generating technique'' naturally appear in ADHM/Nahm construction and we can construct various exact localized solitons including new solitons: localized periodic instantons (=loc…
