We prove number of quantitative stability bounds for the cases of equality in Petz's monotonicity theorem for quasi-relative entropies defined in terms of an operator monotone decreasing functions. Included in our results is a bound in terms of the Petz recovery map, but we obtain more general results. The present treatment is entirely elementary and developed in the context of finite dimensional von Neumann algebras where the results are already non-trivial and of interest in quantum information theory.
Strong subadditivity inequality for a three-particle composite system is an important inequality in quantum information theory which can be studied via a four-particle entangled state. We use two three-level atoms in $Λ$ configuration interacting with a two-mode cavity and the Raman adiabatic passage technique for the production of the four-particle entangled state. Using this four-particle entanglement, we study for the first time various aspects of the strong subadditivity inequality.
The $α$-$z$ Rényi relative entropies are a two-parameter family of Rényi relative entropies that are quantum generalizations of the classical $α$-Rényi relative entropies. In \cite{zhang20CFL} we decided the full range of $(α,z)$ for which the Data Processing Inequality (DPI) is valid. In this paper we give algebraic conditions for the equality in DPI. For the full range of parameters $(α,z)$, we give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions. For most parameters we give equivalent conditions. This generalizes and strengthens the results of Leditzky, Rouz{é} and Datta in \cite{LRD17DPI}.
Some new inequalities of Karamata type are established with a convex function in this paper. The methods of our proof allow us to obtain an extended version of the reverse of Jensen inequality given by Pe{\v} carić and Mićić. Applying the obtained results, we give reverses for information inequality (Shannon inequality) in different types, namely ratio type and difference type, under some conditions. Also, we provide interesting inequalities for von Neumann entropy and quantum Tsallis entropy which is a parametric extension of von Neumann entropy. The inequality for von Neumann entropy recover…
Basic properties of the unified entropies are examined. The consideration is mainly restricted to the finite-dimensional quantum case. Bounds in terms of ensembles of quantum states are given. Both the continuity in Fannes' sense and stability in Lesche's sense are shown for wide ranges of parameters. In particular, uniform estimates are obtained for the quantum Rényi entropies. Stability properties in the thermodynamic limit are discussed as well. It is shown that the unified entropies enjoy both the subadditivity and triangle inequality for a certain range of parameters. Non-decreasing of al…
The data processing inequality (DPI) is a scalar inequality satisfied by distinguishability measures on density matrices. For some distinguishability measures, saturation of the scalar DPI implies an operator equation relating the arguments of the measure. These results are typically derived using functional analytic techniques. In a complementary approach, we use geometric techniques to derive a formula that gives an operator equation from DPI saturation for any distinguishability measure; moreover, for a broad class of distinguishability measures, the derived operator equation is sufficient …
I prove a basic inequality for Schatten q-norms of quantum states on a finite-dimensional bipartite Hilbert space H_1\otimes H_2: 1+||ρ||_q \ge ||\trace_1ρ||_q + ||\trace_2ρ||_q. This leads to a proof--in the finite dimensional case--of Raggio's conjecture (G.A. Raggio, J. Math. Phys.\ \textbf{36}, 4785--4791 (1995)) that the q-entropies S_q(ρ)=(1-\trace[ρ^q])/(q-1) are subadditive for q > 1; that is, for any state ρ, S_q(ρ) is not greater than the sum of the S_q of its reductions, S_q(ρ) \le S_q(\trace_1ρ)+S_q(\trace_2ρ).
The quantum relative entropy is a measure of the distinguishability of two quantum states, and it is a unifying concept in quantum information theory: many information measures such as entropy, conditional entropy, mutual information, and entanglement measures can be realized from it. As such, there has been broad interest in generalizing the notion to further understand its most basic properties, one of which is the data processing inequality. The quantum f-divergence of Petz is one generalization of the quantum relative entropy, and it also leads to other relative entropies, such as the Petz…

We derive a new bound on the effectiveness of the Petz map as a universal recovery channel in approximate quantum error correction using the second sandwiched Rényi relative entropy $\tilde{D}_{2}$. For large Hilbert spaces, our bound implies that the Petz map performs quantum error correction with order-$ε$ accuracy whenever the data processing inequality for $\tilde{D}_{2}$ is saturated up to terms of order $ε^2$ times the inverse Hilbert space dimension. Conceptually, our result is obtained by extending arXiv:2011.03473, in which we studied exact saturation of the data processing inequality…
We prove the conditional Entropy Power Inequality for Gaussian quantum systems. This fundamental inequality determines the minimum quantum conditional von Neumann entropy of the output of the beam-splitter or of the squeezing among all the input states where the two inputs are conditionally independent given the memory and have given quantum conditional entropies. We also prove that, for any couple of values of the quantum conditional entropies of the two inputs, the minimum of the quantum conditional entropy of the output given by the conditional Entropy Power Inequality is asymptotically ach…
The quantum relative entropy between two states satisfies a monotonicity property meaning that applying the same quantum channel to both states can never increase their relative entropy. It is known that this inequality is only tight when there is a "recovery map" that exactly reverses the effects of the quantum channel on both states. In this paper we strengthen this inequality by showing that the difference of relative entropies is bounded below by the measured relative entropy between the first state and a recovered state from its processed version. The recovery map is a convex combination …
We provide a transparent, simple and unified treatment of recent results on the equality conditions for the data processing inequality (DPI) of the sandwiched quantum Rényi divergence, including the statement that equality in the data processing implies recoverability via the Petz recovery map for the full range of $α$ recently proven by Jen\v cová. We also obtain a new set of equality conditions, generalizing a previous result by Leditzky et al.
Recently, there has been focus on determining the conditions under which the data processing inequality for quantum relative entropy is satisfied with approximate equality. The solution of the exact equality case is due to Petz, who showed that the quantum relative entropy between two quantum states stays the same after the action of a quantum channel if and only if there is a \textit{reversal channel} that recovers the original states after the channel acts. Furthermore, this reversal channel can be constructed explicitly and is now called the \textit{Petz recovery map}. Recent developments h…
The data processing inequality states that the quantum relative entropy between two states $ρ$ and $σ$ can never increase by applying the same quantum channel $\mathcal{N}$ to both states. This inequality can be strengthened with a remainder term in the form of a distance between $ρ$ and the closest recovered state $(\mathcal{R} \circ \mathcal{N})(ρ)$, where $\mathcal{R}$ is a recovery map with the property that $σ= (\mathcal{R} \circ \mathcal{N})(σ)$. We show the existence of an explicit recovery map that is universal in the sense that it depends only on $σ$ and the quantum channel $\mathcal{…
This dissertation investigates relative entropies, also called generalized divergences, and how they can be used to characterize information-theoretic tasks in quantum information theory. The main goal is to further refine characterizations of the optimal rates for quantum source coding, state redistribution, and measurement compression with quantum side information via second order asymptotic expansions and strong converse theorems. The dissertation consists of a mathematical and an information-theoretic part. In the mathematical part, we focus on the $α$-sandwiched Rényi divergence ($α$-SRD)…
We present a bouquet of continuity bounds for quantum entropies, falling broadly into two classes: First, a tight analysis of the Alicki-Fannes continuity bounds for the conditional von Neumann entropy, reaching almost the best possible form that depends only on the system dimension and the trace distance of the states. Almost the same proof can be used to derive similar continuity bounds for the relative entropy distance from a convex set of states or positive operators. As applications we give new proofs, with tighter bounds, of the asymptotic continuity of the relative entropy of entangleme…
