Exchange hole is the principle constituent in density functional theory, which can be used to accurately design exchange energy functional and range separated hybrid functionals coupled with some appropriate correlation. Recently, density matrix expansion (DME) based semi-local exchange hole proposed by Tao-Mo gained attention due to its fulfillment of some exact constraints. We propose a new long-range corrected (LC) scheme that combines meta-generalized gradient approximation (meta-GGA) exchange functionals designed from DME exchange hole coupled with the ab-initio Hartree-Fock (HF) exchange integral by separating the Coulomb interaction operator using standard error function. Associate with Lee-Yang-Parr (LYP) correlation functional, assessment and benchmarking of our functional using well-known test set shows that it performs remarkably well for a broad range of molecular properties, such as thermochemistry, noncovalent interaction and barrier height of chemical reactions.
A long range corrected range separated hybrid functional is developed based on the density matrix expansion (DME) based semilocal exchange hole with Lee-Yang-Parr (LYP) correlation. An extensive study involving the proposed range separated hybrid for thermodynamic as well as properties related to the fractional occupation number is compared with different BECKE88 family semilocal, hybrid and range separated hybrids. It has been observed that using Kohn-Sham kinetic energy dependent exchange hole several properties related to the fractional occupation number can be improved without hindering th…
Range separated hybrid density functionals are very successful in describing a wide range of molecular and solid state properties accurately. Range separated hybrid functionals are designed from spherically averaged or system averaged reversed engineered exchange hole. In the present attempt, we employ screened range separated hybrid functional scheme to the meta-GGA rung by using Tao-Mo semilocal exchange hole (or functional). The hybrid functional proposed here utilizes the spherically averaged density matrix expansion based exchange hole in range separation scheme. For slowly varying densit…
In this work, we developed and showcased the occ-RI-K algorithm to compute the exact exchange contribution in density functional calculations of solids near the basis set limit. Within the gaussian planewave (GPW) density fitting, our algorithm achieves a 1-2 orders of magnitude speedup compared to conventional GPW algorithms. Since our algorithm is well-suited for simulations with large basis sets, we applied it to 12 hybrid density functionals with pseudopotentials and a large uncontracted basis set to assess their performance on band gaps of 25 simple solids near the basis set limit. The la…
Hybrid density functionals replace a fraction of an underlying generalized-gradient approximation (GGA) exchange description with a Fock-exchange component. Range-separated hybrids (RSHs) also effectively screen the Fock-exchange component and thus open the door for characterizations of metals and adsorption at metal surfaces. The RSHs are traditionally based on a robust GGA, such as PBE [PRL $\textbf{77}$, 3865 (1996)], for example, as implemented in the HSE design [JPC $\textbf{118}$, 8207 (2003)]. Here we define a RSH extension to the van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF) method [ROPP $…
We introduce a new, general-purpose, range-separated hybrid van der Waals density \ph{functional, termed vdW-DF-ahbr,} within the non-empirical vdW-DF method [JPCM 32, 393001 (2020)]. It combines correlation from vdW-DF2 with a screened Fock exchange that is fixed by \ph{a new model of exchange effects} in the density-explicit vdW-DF2-b86r functional [PRB 89, 121103(R) (2014)]. The new vdW-DF2-ahbr prevents spurious exchange binding and has a small-density-gradient form set from many-body perturbation analysis. It is accurate for \ph{bulk as well as layered materials} and it systematically and…
Dielectric-dependent hybrid (DDH) functionals were recently shown to yield accurate energy gaps and dielectric constants for a wide variety of solids, at a computational cost considerably less than that of GW calculations. The fraction of exact exchange included in the definition of DDH functionals depends (self-consistently) on the dielectric constant of the material. Here we introduce a range-separated (RS) version of DDH functionals where short and long-range components are matched using system dependent, non-empirical parameters. We show that RS DDHs yield accurate electronic properties of…
Amorphous ferrimagnetic TbFeCo thin films are found to exhibit exchange bias effect near the compensation temperature by magnetic hysteresis loop measurement. The observed exchange anisotropy is believed to originate from the exchange interaction between the two nanoscale amorphous phases distributed within the films. Here, we present a computational model of phase-separated TbFeCo using micromagnetic simulation. Two types of cells with different Tb concentration are distributed within the simulated space to obtain a heterogeneous structure consisting of two nanoscale amorphous phases. Each ce…
In this study, the structural, electronic and optical properties of Pb doped rutile SnO$_2$ were investigated using the range separated hybrid exchange-correlation functional method. In the calculations, LDA functional was used instead of PBE functional. The electronic structure of SnO$_2$ obtained by this method is quite compatible with the experimental data. The SnO$_2$ has an important usage area in optoelectronic devices due to its transparent and conductive nature. One of these important areas is the use of SnO$_2$ as an electron transport layer (ETL) in perovskite solar cells. Therefore,…
An atomic-orbital basis set framework is presented for carrying out velocity- gauge real-time time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) simulations in periodic systems employing range-separated hybrid functionals. Linear optical response obtained from real-time propagation of the time-dependent Kohn-Sham equations including nonlocal exchange is considered in prototypical solid-state materials such as bulk Si, LiF and monolayer hexagonal-BN. Additionally core excitations in monolayer hexagonal-BN at the B and N K-edges are investigated and the role of long-range and short-range nonlocal …
An asymptotic corrected exchange hole potential analogous to Becke-Roussel [A. D. Becke and M. R. Roussel, Phys. Rev. A 39, 3761 (1989)] is constructed by modeling the exchange hole using the generalized coordinate transformation based on density matrix expansion. The model potential is Laplacian free and the inhomogeneity present in the system is included in the momentum vector without affecting the uniform density limit. The parameters associated with the model exchange hole are fitted with the spherical atoms. The newly constructed potential along with Tran-Blaha modified Becke-Johnson (TBM…
We report on a first principles study of anti-ferromagnetic resonance (AFMR) phenomena in metallic systems [MnX (X=Ir,Pt,Pd,Rh) and FeRh] under an external electric field. We demonstrate that the AFMR linewidth can be separated into a relativistic component originating from the angular momentum transfer between the collinear AFM subsystem and the crystal through the spin orbit coupling (SOC), and an exchange component that originates from the spin exchange between the two sublattices. The calculations reveal that the latter component becomes significant in the low temperature regime. Furthermo…
The construction of meta generalized gradient approximations based on the density matrix expansion (DME) is considered as one of the most accurate technique to design semilocal exchange energy functionals in two-dimensional density functional formalism. The exchange holes modeled using DME possess unique features that make it a superior entity. Parameterized semilocal exchange energy functionals based on the DME are proposed. The use of different forms of the momentum and flexible parameters is to subsume the non-uniform effects of the density in the newly constructed semilocal functionals. In…
The DFT calculations were performed of densities of states of semiconductor GaAs and magnetic semiconductor Ga0.9375Mn0.0625As. It is obtained that a part of Mn3d- states is hybridized with valence band at Fermi level. The exchange integrals of Anderson impurity model were calculated making use of atomic Hartree-Fock package and angular momentum coupling technique. Theoretical Tc of Ga0.9375Mn0.0625As obtained in the multiscale ab initio method is in reasonable agreement with experiment. The application of Hubbard parameters in DFT calculations using ultrasoft pseudopotentials is discussed.
Semi-local density functionals for the exchange-correlation energy of electrons are extensively used as it produce realistic and accurate results for finite and extended systems. The choice of techniques play crucial role in constructing such functionals of improved accuracy and efficiency. An accurate and efficient semi-local exchange energy functional in two dimensions is constructed by making use of the corresponding hole based on the density matrix expansion. The exchange hole involved is localized under the generalized coordinate transformation and satisfies all the relevant constraints. …
Semilocal exchange-correlation functionals are the most accurate, realistic and widely used ones to describe the complex many-electron effects of two-dimensional quantum systems. Beyond local density approximation, the generalized gradient approximations(GGAs) are designed using reduced density gradient as main ingredient. An enhancement factor is constructed using the inhomogeneity parameter of GGAs by taking care of the low and high density behaviors of it. Thus, the exchange energy functional proposed by making use of the aforementioned enhancement factor, significantly reduces the error co…
The performance of density functional theory depends largely on the approximation applied for the exchange functional. We propose here a novel screened exchange potential for semiconductors, with parameters based on the physical properties of the underlying microscopic screening and obeying the requirements for proper asymptotic behavior. We demonstrate that this functional is Koopmans-compliant and reproduces a wide range of band gaps. We also show, that the only tunable parameter of the functional can be kept constant upon changing the cation or the anion isovalently, making the approach sui…
Reliable predictions of surface chemical reaction energetics require an accurate description of both chemisorption and physisorption. Here, we present an empirical approach to simultaneously optimize semi-local exchange and non-local correlation of a density functional approximation to improve these energetics. A combination of reference data for solid bulk, surface, and gas-phase chemistry and physical exchange-correlation model constraints leads to the VCML-rVV10 exchange-correlation functional. Owing to the variety of training data, the applicability of VCML-rVV10 extends beyond surface che…
The accuracy of effective masses predicted by density functional theory depends on the exchange-correlation functional employed, with nonlocal hybrid functionals giving more accurate results than semilocal functionals. In this article, we benchmark the performance of the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE), Tran-Blaha modified Becke-Johnson (TB-mBJ), and the hybrid Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof (HSE06) exchange-correlation functionals and potentials for the calculation of effective masses with perturbation theory. We introduce the mstar60 dataset, which contains 60 effective masses derived from 18 semicond…
The modern semilocal exchange potential is an accurate and efficient approximation to the exact exchange potential of density functional theory. We tried to combine it with the dynamical mean-field theory to derive a new first-principles many-body approach for studying correlated electronic materials. As a paradigm, this approach was employed to investigate the electronic structures and optical properties of strongly correlated ionic insulator YbS. Compared to the standard density functional theory plus dynamical mean-field theory which surprisingly failed to give an insulating solution, the n…
