We study birational geometry of the moduli space of parabolic bundles over a projective line, in the framework of Mori's program. We show that the moduli space is a Mori dream space. As a consequence, we obtain the finite generation of the algebra of type A conformal blocks. Furthermore, we compute the H-representation of the effective cone which was previously obtained by Belkale. For each big divisor, the associated birational model is described in terms of moduli space of parabolic bundles.
We prove finite generation of the algebra of type A conformal blocks over arbitrary stable curves of any genus. As an application we construct a flat family of irreducible normal projective varieties over the moduli stack of stable pointed curves, whose fiber over a smooth curve is a moduli space of semistable parabolic bundles. This generalizes a construction of a degeneration of the moduli space of vector bundles presented in a recent work of Belkale and Gibney.
We give a characterization of conformal blocks in terms of the singular cohomology of suitable smooth projective varieties, in genus 0 for classical Lie algebras and $G_2$.
We describe new relations among conformal block divisors in $\operatorname{Pic}(\bar{\operatorname{M}}_{0,n})$. These relations appear from various rank-level dualities of conformal blocks on $\mathbb{P}^1$ with $n$ marked points. We also give a coordinate free description of rank-level duality maps on $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$.
Classical invariants for representations of one Lie group can often be related to invariants of some other Lie group. Physics suggests that the right objects to consider for these questions are certain refinements of classical invariants known as conformal blocks. Conformal blocks appear in algebraic geometry as spaces of global sections of line bundles on the moduli stack of parabolic bundles on a smooth curve. Rank-level duality connects a conformal block associated to one Lie algebra to a conformal block for a different Lie algebra. In this paper we prove a rank-level duality for type so(2r…
Using equivariant localization formulas we give a formula for conformal blocks at level one on the sphere as suitable polynomials. Using this presentation we give a generating set in the space of conformal blocks at any level if the marked points on the sphere are generic.
We show that conformal blocks divisors of type B_r and D_r at level one are effective sums of boundary divisors of $\bar{M}_{0,n}$. We also prove that the conformal blocks divisor of type $B_r$ at level 1 with weights (ω_1,\dots,ω_1) scales linearly with the level.
Let $X$ be a smooth, pointed Riemann surface of genus zero, and $G$ a simple, simply-connected complex algebraic group. Associated to a finite number of weights of $G$ and a level is a vector space called the space of conformal blocks, and a vector bundle of conformal blocks over $\bar{\text{M}}_{0,n}$. We show that, assuming the weights are on a face of the multiplicative eigenvalue polytope, the space of conformal blocks is isomorphic to a product of conformal blocks over groups of lower rank. If the weights are on a degree zero wall, then we also show that there is an isomorphism of conform…
The aim of this paper is to generalize the notion of conformal blocks to the situation in which the Lie algebra they are attached to is not defined over a field, but depends on covering data of curves. The result will be a sheaf of conformal blocks on the Hurwitz stack parametrizing Galois coverings of curves. Many features of the classical sheaves of conformal blocks are proved to hold in this more general setting, in particular the fusion rules, the propagation of vacua and the WZW connection.
The Verlinde formula computes the dimension of conformal blocks associated to simple Lie algebras and stable pointed curves. If a simply-laced simple Lie algebra admits a nontrivial diagram automorphism, then this automorphism acts on the space of conformal blocks naturally. We prove an analogue of Verlinde formula for the trace of the diagram automorphism on the space of conformal blocks. Along the way, we get an analogue of Kac-Walton formula for the trace of the diagram automorphism. We also get a twining type formula between the conformal blocks for the pair $(sl(2n+1),sp(2n))$.
We construct and study a family of toric degenerations of the algebra of conformal blocks for a stable marked curve $(C, \vec{p})$ with structure group $SL_3(\mathbb{C}).$ We find that this algebra is Gorenstein. For the genus $0, 1$ cases we find the level of conformal blocks necessary to generate the algebra. In the genus 0 case we also find bounds on the degrees of relations required to present the algebra. Along the way we recover polyhedral rules for counting conformal blocks originally due to Senechal, Mathieu, Kirillov, and Walton.
Conformal blocks form a system of vector bundles over the moduli space of complex curves with marked points. We discuss various aspects of these bundles. In particular, we present conjectures about the dimensions of sub-bundles. They imply a Verlinde formula for non-simply connected groups like PGL(n,C). We then explain how conformal blocks enter in the construction of conformal field theories on surfaces with boundaries. Such surfaces naturally appear in the conformal field theory description of string propagation in the background of a D-brane. In this context, the sub-bundle structure of th…
Starting with a vertex algebra $V$, a finite group $G$ of automorphisms of $V$, and a suitable collection of twisted $V$--modules, we construct (twisted) $D$--modules on the stack of pointed $G$--covers, introduced by Jarvis, Kaufmann, and Kimura. The fibers of these sheaves are spaces of orbifold conformal blocks defined in joint work with Edward Frenkel. The key ingredient is a $G$--equivariant version of the Virasoro uniformization theorem.

We study a family of semiample divisors on the moduli space $\bar{M}_{0,n}$ that come from the theory of conformal blocks for the Lie algebra $sl_n$ and level 1. The divisors we study are invariant under the action of $S_n$ on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$. We compute their classes and prove that they generate extremal rays in the cone of symmetric nef divisors on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$. In particular, these divisors define birational contractions of $\bar{M}_{0,n}$, which we show factor through reduction morphisms to moduli spaces of weighted pointed curves defined by Hassett.
We survey some recent work on conformal blocks in genus zero, focussing on (1) Chern classes, global generation and morphisms, and (2) the Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov connection on conformal blocks (and invariants), their motivic realizations, and unitarity.
We study Nekrasov's instanton partition function of four-dimensional N=2 gauge theories in the presence of surface operators. This can be computed order by order in the instanton expansion by using results available in the mathematical literature. Focusing in the case of SU(2) quiver gauge theories, we find that the results agree with a modified version of the conformal blocks of affine SL(2) Lie algebra. These conformal blocks provide, in the critical limit, the eigenfunctions of the corresponding quantized Hitchin Hamiltonians.
We prove a canonical identifications of the spaces of generalized theta functions on the moduli spaces of anti-invariant vector bundles in the ramified case and the conformal blocks associated to twisted Kac-Moody affine algebras.
We generalise the proof by Marian and Oprea of rank-level duality for non-abelian theta functions to the case of sections of line bundles (conformal blocks) over moduli spaces of parabolic vector bundles over a projective smooth curve. We also describe how it implies the rank-level duality between conformal blocks of Sp(2) and Sp(2n).
We realize any space of conformal blocks attached to a punctured curve inside the cohomology of a configuration space of that curve and compare the WZW connection with the Gauss-Manin connection.
For any simple Lie algebra, a positive integer, and tuple of compatible weights, the conformal blocks bundle is a globally generated vector bundle on the moduli space of pointed rational curves. We classify all $S_n$-invariant vector bundles of conformal blocks for $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ which have rank one. We show that the cone generated by their base point free first Chern classes is polyhedral, generated by level one divisors.
We investigate the behavior of vector bundles of conformal blocks for $sp_{2\ell}$ at level one on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$. We show their first Chern classes are equivalent to conformal blocks divisors for $sl_2$ at level $\ell$ if and only if the corresponding vector bundles have rank one or zero, and all become equal when the Lie algebra $\ell$ is large enough. As a consequence of these results, we conclude the cone generated by these divisors is polyhedral.
We propose an algebro-geometric definition of the space of conformal blocks in the four dimensional Wess-Zumino-Witten theory introduced by Losev.et al..
Here we consider higher Chern classes of vector bundles of conformal blocks on $\overline{\operatorname{M}}_{0,n}$, giving explicit formulas for them, and extending various results that hold for first Chern classes to them. We use these classes to form a full dimensional subcone of the Pliant cone on $\overline{\operatorname{M}}_{0,n}$.
For a stable curve of genus $g\geq 2$ and simple Lie algebra of type A or C, we show that the conformal blocks algebra $\mathcal{A}$ on $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_g$ is finitely generated and establish an explicit connection to Schmitt and Muñoz-Castañeda's compactification of the moduli space of $G$-bundles.
The moduli space $\bar{M}_{0,n}$ of Deligne-Mumford stable n-pointed rational curves admits morphisms to spaces recently constructed by Giansiracusa, Jensen, and Moon that we call Veronese quotients. We study divisors on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$ associated to these maps and show that these divisors arise as first Chern classes of vector bundles of conformal blocks.
We show that $sl_2$ conformal block divisors do not cover the nef cone of $\bar{M}_{0,6}$, or the $S_9$-invariant nef cone of $\bar{M}_{0,9}$. A key point is to relate the nonvanishing of intersection numbers between these divisors and F-curves to the nonemptiness of some explicitly defined polytopes. Several experimental results and some open problems are also included.
We derive a formula for the Chern classes of the bundles of conformal blocks on \bar{M}_{0,n} associated to simple finite dimensional Lie algebras and explore its consequences in more detail for sl_2 and in general for level 1. We also give a method for computing the first Chern class of such bundles on \bar{M}_{g,n} for g>0.
We show that the Cox ring of the moduli of $SL_2(\C)$ quasi-parabolic principal bundles on a marked curve is generated by conformal blocks of level 1 and 2. We show that the ideal which vanishes on these generators is generated by forms of degrees $2, 3, 4.$
We prove that the Chow quotient parametrizing configurations of n points in $\mathbb{P}^d$ which generically lie on a rational normal curve is isomorphic to $\overline{M}_{0,n}$, generalizing the well-known $d = 1$ result of Kapranov. In particular, $\overline{M}_{0,n}$ admits birational morphisms to all the corresponding geometric invariant theory (GIT) quotients. For symmetric linearizations the polarization on each GIT quotient pulls back to a divisor that spans the same extremal ray in the symmetric nef cone of $\overline{M}_{0,n}$ as a conformal blocks line bundle. A symmetry in conformal…
We prove that the type A, level one, conformal blocks divisors on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$ span a finitely generated, full-dimensional subcone of the nef cone. Each such divisor induces a morphism from $\bar{M}_{0,n}$, and we identify its image as a GIT quotient parameterizing configurations of points supported on a flat limit of Veronese curves. We show how scaling GIT linearizations gives geometric meaning to certain identities among conformal blocks divisor classes. This also gives modular interpretations, in the form of GIT constructions, to the images of the hyperelliptic and cyclic trigonal loci …
By way of intersection theory on $\bar M_{g,n}$, we show that geometric interpretations for conformal blocks, as sections of ample line bundles over projective varieties, do not have to hold at points on the boundary. We show such a translation would imply certain recursion relations for first Chern classes of these bundles. While recursions can fail, geometric interpretations are shown to hold under certain conditions.
Let M(r) be the moduli space of rank r vector bundles with trivial determinant on a Riemann surface X . This space carries a natural line bundle, the determinant line bundle L . We describe a canonical isomorphism of the space of global sections of L^k with a space known in conformal field theory as the ``space of conformal blocks", which is defined in terms of representations of the Lie algebra sl(r, C((z))).
The Verlinde formula computes the dimension of certain vector spaces ("conformal blocks") associated to a Rational Conformal Field Theory. In this paper we show how this can be made rigorous for one particular such theory, the WZW model. Thanks to the results of [B-L], [F] and [T-U-Y], this gives the dimension of the space of global sections of the determinant line bundles (and its multiples) on the moduli space of vector bundles with fixed rank and determinant.
