We apply for the first time a new one-loop topological expansion around the Bethe solution to the spin-glass model with field in the high connectivity limit, following the methodological scheme proposed in a recent work. The results are completely equivalent to the well known ones, found by standard field theoretical expansion around the fully connected model (Bray and Roberts 1980, and following works). However this method has the advantage that the starting point is the original Hamiltonian of the model, with no need to define an associated field theory, nor to know the initial values of the couplings, and the computations have a clear and simple physical meaning. Moreover this new method can also be applied in the case of zero temperature, when the Bethe model has a transition in field, contrary to the fully connected model that is always in the spin glass phase. Sharing with finite dimensional model the finite connectivity properties, the Bethe lattice is clearly a better starting point for an expansion with respect to the fully connected model. The present work is a first step towards the generalization of this new expansion to more difficult and interesting cases as the zero-temperature limit, where the expansion could lead to different results with respect to the standard one.
The zero temperature phase diagram of spin glasses on finite connectivity graphs is investigated, with or without magnetic field and/or ferromagnetic bias, for mean field (using the cavity method) and Edwards-Anderson (using numerical ground states computations) models. In the mean field case we show that the phase diagram is complex and compute the equivalent of the zero temperature de Almeida-Thouless line. In the 3d model however, we found a trivial phase diagram. This paper present new analytical results as well as a rapid review of numerical works on ground states.
In a finite-connectivity spin-glass at the zero-temperature limit, long-range correlations exist among the unfrozen vertices (whose spin values being non-fixed). Such long-range frustrations are partially removed through the first-step replica-symmetry-broken (1RSB) cavity theory, but residual long-range frustrations may still persist in this mean-field solution. By way of population dynamics, here we perform a perturbation-percolation analysis to calculate the magnitude of long-range frustrations in the 1RSB solution of a given spin-glass system. We study two well-studied model systems, the m…
We study spin glasses on random lattices with finite connectivity. In the infinite connectivity limit they reduce to the Sherrington Kirkpatrick model. In this paper we investigate the expansion around the high connectivity limit. Within the replica symmetry breaking scheme at two steps, we compute the free energy at the first order in the expansion in inverse powers of the average connectivity (z), both for the fixed connectivity and for the fluctuating connectivity random lattices. It is well known that the coefficient of the 1/z correction for the free energy is divergent at low temperature…
An one-step replica-symmetry-breaking solution for finite connectivity spin-glass models with K body interaction is constructed at finite temperature using the replica method and thermodynamic constraints. In the absence of external fields, this construction provides a general extension of replica symmetric solution at finite replica number to one-step replica-symmetry-breaking solution. It is found that this result is formally equivalent to that of the one-step replica-symmetry-breaking cavity method. To confirm the validity of the obtained solution, Monte Carlo simulations are performed for …
We propose a generalization of the cavity method to quantum spin glasses on fixed connectivity lattices. Our work is motivated by the recent refinements of the classical technique and its potential application to quantum computational problems. We numerically solve for the phase structure of a connectivity $q=3$ transverse field Ising model on a Bethe lattice with $\pm J$ couplings, and investigate the distribution of various classical and quantum observables.
We have studied the topology of the energy landscape of a spin-glass model and the effect of frustration on it by looking at the connectivity and disconnectivity graphs of the inherent structure. The connectivity network shows the adjacency of energy minima whereas the disconnectivity network tells us about the heights of the energy barriers. Both graphs are constructed by the exact enumeration of a two-dimensional square lattice of a frustrated spin glass with nearest-neighbor interactions up to the size of 27 spins. The enumeration of the energy-landscape minima as well as the analytical mea…
Shortened abstract: A mean field theory of long range frustration is constructed for spin glass systems with quenched randomness of vertex--vertex connections and of spin--spin coupling strengths. This theory is applied to a spin glass model of the random $K$-satisfiability problem (K=2 or K=3). The zero--temperature phase diagram of the $\pm J$ Viana--Bray model is also determined, which is identical to that of the random 2-SAT problem. The predicted phase transition between a non-frustrated and a long--rangely frustrated spin glass phase might also be observable in real materials at a finite…
A formalism capable of handling the first step of hierarchical replica symmetry breaking in finite-connectivity models is introduced. The emerging order parameter is claimed to be a probability distribution over the space of field distributions (or, equivalently magnetisation distributions) inside the cluster of states. The approach is shown to coincide with the previous works in the replica symmetric case and in the two limit cases m=0,1 where m is Parisi's break-point. As an application to the study of optimization problems, the ground-state properties of the random 3-Satisfiability problem …
In a previous paper (cond-mat/0106554) we showed the existence of two new zero-temperature exponents (λand θ') in two dimensional Gaussian spin glasses. Here we introduce a novel low-temperature expansion for spin glasses expressed in terms of the gap probability distributions for successive energy levels. After presenting the numerical evidence in favor of a random-energy levels scenario, we analyze the main consequences on the low-temperature equilibrium behavior. We find that the specific heat is anomalous at low-temperatures c ~ T**αwith α=-d/θ' which turns out to be linear for the case θ'…
We report on and characterize, via molecular dynamics (MD) studies, the evolution of the structure of Cu50Zr50 and Cu64Zr36 metallic glasses (MGs) as temperature is varied. Interestingly, a percolating icosahedral network appears in the Cu64Zr36 system as it is supercooled. This leads us to introduce a static length scale, which grows dramatically as this three dimensional system approaches the glass transition. Amidst interpenetrating connections, non-interpenetrating connections between icosahedra are shown to become prevalent upon supercooling and to greatly enhance the connectivity of the …
In this paper we calculate the mean number of metastable states for spin glasses on so called random thin graphs with couplings taken from a symmetric binary distribution $\pm J$. Thin graphs are graphs where the local connectivity of each site is fixed to some value $c$. As in totally connected mean field models we find that the number of metastable states increases exponentially with the system size. Furthermore we find that the average number of metastable states decreases as $c$ in agreement with previous studies showing that finite connectivity corrections of order $1/c$ increase the numb…
An extensive list of results for the ground state properties of spin glasses on random graphs is presented. These results provide a timely benchmark for currently developing theoretical techniques based on replica symmetry breaking that are being tested on mean-field models at low connectivity. Comparison with existing replica results for such models verifies the strength of those techniques. Yet, we find that spin glasses on fixed-connectivity graphs (Bethe lattices) exhibit a richer phenomenology than has been anticipated by theory. Our data prove to be sufficiently accurate to speculate abo…
A zero temperature dynamics of Ising spin glasses and ferromagnets on random graphs of finite connectivity is considered, like granular media these systems have an extensive entropy of metastable states. We consider the problem of what energy a randomly prepared spin system falls to before becoming stuck in a metastable state. We then introduce a tapping mechanism, analogous to that of real experiments on granular media, this tapping, corresponding to flipping simultaneously any spin with probability $p$, leads to stationary regime with a steady state energy $E(p)$. We explicitly solve this pr…
We study the low temperature properties of p-spin glass models with finite connectivity and of some optimization problems. Using a one-step functional replica symmetry breaking Ansatz we can solve exactly the saddle-point equations for graphs with uniform connectivity. The resulting ground state energy is in perfect agreement with numerical simulations. For fluctuating connectivity graphs, the same Ansatz can be used in a variational way: For p-spin models (known as p-XOR-SAT in computer science) it provides the exact configurational entropy together with the dynamical and static critical conn…
We consider a tapping dynamics, analogous to that in experiments on granular media, on spin glasses and ferromagnets on random thin graphs. Between taps, zero temperature single spin flip dynamics takes the system to a metastable state. Tapping, corresponds to flipping simultaneously any spin with probability $p$. This dynamics leads to a stationary regime with a steady state energy $E(p)$. We analytically solve this dynamics for the one dimensional ferromagnet and $\pm J$ spin glass. Numerical simulations for spin glasses and ferromagnets of higher connectivity are carried out, in particular …
We introduce a diagrammatic formulation for a cavity field expansion around the critical temperature. This approach allows us to obtain a theory for the overlap's fluctuations and, in particular, the linear part of the Ghirlanda-Guerra relationships (GG) (often called Aizenman-Contucci polynomials (AC)) in a very simple way. We show moreover how these constraints are "superimposed" by the symmetry of the model with respect to the restriction required by thermodynamic stability. Within this framework it is possible to expand the free energy in terms of these irreducible overlaps fluctuations an…
We demonstrate through two case studies, one on the p-spin interaction model and the other on the random K-satisfiability problem, that a heterogeneity transition occurs to the ground-state configuration space of a random finite-connectivity spin glass system at certain critical value of the constraint density. At the transition point, exponentially many configuration communities emerge from the ground-state configuration space, making the entropy density s(q) of configuration-pairs a non-concave function of configuration-pair overlap q. Each configuration community is a collection of relative…
It is shown by means of a 1/m expansion about the large-m limit of the m-vector spin glass that the lower critical dimension of the de Almeida-Thouless line in spin glasses is equal to the lower critical dimension of the large-m limit of the m-vector spin glass. Numerical studies suggest that this is close to six.
We report on a refined version of our spin-glass type approach to the low-temperature physics of structural glasses. Its key idea is based on a Born von Karman expansion of the interaction potential about a set of reference positions in which glassy aspects are modeled by taking the harmonic contribution within this expansion to be random. Within the present refined version the expansion at the harmonic level is reorganized so as to respect the principle of global translational invariance. By implementing this principle, we have for the first time a mechanism that fixes the distribution of the…
Cryogenic rejuvenation in metallic glasses reported in Ketov et al 's experiment (Nature(2015)524,200) has attracted much attention, both in experiments and numerical studies. The atomic mechanism of rejuvenation has been conjectured to be related to the heterogeneity of the glassy state, but the quantitative evidence is still elusive. Here we use molecular dynamics simulations of a model metallic glass to investigate the heterogeneity in the local thermal expansion. We then combine the resulting spatial distribution of thermal expansion with a continuum mechanics calculation to infer the inte…
The local minima (inherent structures) of a system and their associated transition links give rise to a network. Here we consider the topological and distance properties of such a network in the context of spin glasses. We use steepest descent dynamics, determining for each disorder sample the transition links appearing within a given barrier height. We find that differences between linked inherent structures are typically associated with local clusters of spins; we interpret this within a framework based on droplets in which the characteristic ``length scale'' grows with the barrier height. W…
Structure factors for Cax/2AlxSi1-xO2 glasses (x=0,0.25,0.5,0.67) extended to a wave vector of magnitude Q= 40 1/A have been obtained by high-energy x-ray diffraction. For the first time, it is possible to resolve the contributions of Si-O, Al-O and Ca-O coordination polyhedra to the experimental atomic pair distribution functions (PDF). It has been found that both Si and Al are four-fold coordinated and so participate in a continuous tetrahedral network at low values of x. The number of network breaking defects in the form of non-bridging oxygens (NBO's) increases slowly with x until x=0.5 (N…
The high-order behavior of the perturbation expansion in the cubic replica field theory of spin glasses in the paramagnetic phase has been investigated. The study starts with the zero-dimensional version of the replica field theory and this is shown to be equivalent to the problem of finding finite size corrections in a modified spherical spin glass near the critical temperature. We find that the high-order behavior of the perturbation series is described, to leading order, by coefficients of alternating signs (suggesting that the cubic field theory is well-defined) but that there are also sub…
We study a family of diluted attractor neural networks with a finite average number of (symmetric) connections per neuron. As in finite connectivity spin glasses, their equilibrium properties are described by order parameter functions, for which we derive an integral equation in replica symmetric (RS) approximation. A bifurcation analysis of this equation reveals the locations of the paramagnetic to recall and paramagnetic to spin-glass transition lines in the phase diagram. The line separating the retrieval phase from the spin-glass phase is calculated at zero temperature. All phase transitio…
We have investigated the interrelation between the spin glasses and the structural glasses. Spin glasses in this case are random magnets without reflection symmetry (e.g. $p$ - spin interaction spin glasses and Potts glasses) which contain quenched disorder, whereas the structural glasses are here exemplified by the homopolymeric globule, which can be viewed as a liquid of connected molecules on nano scales. It is argued that the homopolymeric globule problem can be mapped onto a disorder field theoretical model whose effective Hamiltonian resembles the corresponding one for the spin glass mod…
We address the question of geometrical as well as energetic properties of local excitations in mean field Ising spin glasses. We study analytically the Random Energy Model and numerically a dilute mean field model, first on tree-like graphs, equivalent to a replica symmetric computation, and then directly on finite connectivity random lattices. In the first model, characterized by a discontinuous replica symmetry breaking, we found that the energy of finite volume excitation is infinite whereas in the dilute mean field model, described by a continuous replica symmetry breaking, it slowly decre…
We present a mean field model for spin glasses with a natural notion of distance built in, namely, the Edwards-Anderson model on the diluted D-dimensional unit hypercube in the limit of large D. We show that finite D effects are strongly dependent on the connectivity, being much smaller for a fixed coordination number. We solve the non trivial problem of generating these lattices. Afterwards, we numerically study the nonequilibrium dynamics of the mean field spin glass. Our three main findings are: (i) the dynamics is ruled by an infinite number of time-sectors, (ii) the aging dynamics consist…
By means of a systematic expansion around the infinite-dimensional solution, we obtain an approximation scheme to compute properties of glasses in low dimensions. The resulting equations take as input the thermodynamic and structural properties of the equilibrium liquid, and from this they allow one to compute properties of the glass. They are therefore similar in spirit to the Mode-Coupling approximation scheme. Our scheme becomes exact, by construction, in dimension $d\to\infty$ and it can be improved systematically by adding more terms in the expansion.
Expansion for the free energy functionals of the Potts spin glass models with 3, 4 and 5 states up to the fourth order in $δq_{αβ}$ around the replica symmetric solution (RS) is investigated using a special quadrupole-like representation. The temperature dependence of the 1RSB order parameters is obtained in the vicinity of the point $T=T_c$ where the RS solution becomes unstable. The crossover from continuous to jumpwise behavior with increasing of number of states is derived analytically. The comparison is made of the free energy expansion for the Potts spin glass with that for other models.
We give general topological rules which very accurately predict the chemical trends in glass transition temperature $T_g$ variation as a function of cross-linking. In multicomponent glasses, these chemical trends permit to distinguish homogeneous compositions (random network) from inhomogeneous ones (local phase separation). The stochastic origin of the Gibbs-Di Marzio equation is predicted at low connectivity and the analytical expression of its parameter emerges naturally from the calculation.
We study the $\pm J$ transverse-field Ising spin glass model at zero temperature on d-dimensional hypercubic lattices and in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) model, by series expansions around the strong field limit. In the SK model and in high-dimensions our calculated critical properties are in excellent agreement with the exact mean-field results, surprisingly even down to dimension $d = 6$ which is below the upper critical dimension of $d=8$. In contrast, in lower dimensions we find a rich singular behavior consisting of critical and Griffiths-McCoy singularities. The divergence of the equ…
We analyse the relationship between dynamics and configuration space structure of Ising spin glass systems. The exact knowledge of the structure of the low--energy landscape is used to study the relaxation of the system by random walk in the configuration space. The influence of the size of the valleys, clusters and energy barriers and the connectivity between them on the spin correlation function is shown.
We consider the problem of temperature chaos in mean-field spin-glass models defined on random lattices with finite connectivity. By means of an expansion in the order parameter we show that these models display a much stronger chaos effect than the fully connected Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model with the exception of the Bethe lattice with bimodal distribution of the couplings.
In this letter we show how to perform a systematic perturbative approach for the mode-coupling theory. The results coincide with those obtained via the replica approach. The upper critical dimension turns out to be always 8 and the correlations have a double pole in momentum space in perturbations theory. Non-perturbative effects are found to be very important. We suggest a possible framework to compute these effects.
Extremal Optimization (EO), a new local search heuristic, is used to approximate ground states of the mean-field spin glass model introduced by Sherrington and Kirkpatrick. The implementation extends the applicability of EO to systems with highly connected variables. Approximate ground states of sufficient accuracy and with statistical significance are obtained for systems with more than N=1000 variables using $\pm J$ bonds. The data reproduces the well-known Parisi solution for the average ground state energy of the model to about 0.01%, providing a high degree of confidence in the heuristic.…
Bethe Lattice Spin Glasses (BLSG) are models with finite connectivity which undergo a Replica Symmetry Breaking (RSB) phase transition in field, even at zero temperature. The order parameter describing this phase is a function related to the non-trivial organization of the states. We compute numerically the spin glass order parameter at zero temperature in BLSG with coordination number $z=3$ and couplings $J=\pm1$, near the transition. The method is based on a universal formula which relates the order parameter to the joint probability distribution of the energy gaps of the lowest lying states…
From a consideration of high temperature series expansions in ferromagnets and in spin glasses, we propose an extended scaling scaling scheme involving a set of scaling formulae which express to leading order the temperature (T) and the system size (L) dependences of thermodynamic observables over a much wider range of T than the corresponding one in the conventional scaling scheme. The extended scaling, illustrated by data on the canonical 2d ferromagnet and on the 3d binomial Ising spin glass, leads to consistency for the estimates of critical parameters obtained from scaling analyses for di…
Volume and enthalpy relaxation of glasses after a sudden temperature change has been extensively studied since Kovacs seminal work. One observes an asymmetric approach to equilibrium upon cooling versus heating and, more counter-intuitively, the expansion gap paradox, i.e. a dependence on the initial temperature of the effective relaxation time even close to equilibrium when heating. Here we show that a distinguishable-particles lattice model can capture both the asymmetry and the expansion gap. We quantitatively characterize the energetic states of the particles configurations using a physica…
Infinite-range spin-glass models with Levy-distributed interactions show a freezing transition similar to disordered spin systems on finite connectivity random graphs. It is shown that despite diverging moments of the local field distribution this transition can be analyzed within the replica approach by working at imaginary temperature and using a variant of the replica method developed for diluted systems and optimization problems. The replica-symmetric self-consistent equation for the distribution of local fields illustrates how the long tail in the distribution of coupling strengths gives …
Ion-exchange is commonly used to chemically strengthen glasses, by replacing small atoms by larger ones at sub T$_g$ temperature, thereby inducing a compressive stress. However, the resulting expansion of the glass remains lower than that predicted by the difference of molar volumes of the as-cooled glasses, an anomaly that remains poorly understood. Here, based on molecular dynamcis simulations of permanently densified sodium silicate glasses coupled with topological constraint theory, we show that the rigidity of the network controls the extent of the dilatation. Isostatic networks, which ar…
We develop a systematic expansion method of physical quantities for the SK model and the finite-dimensional $\pm J$ model of spin glasses in non-equilibrium states. The dynamical probability distribution function is derived from the master equation using a high temperature expansion. We calculate the expectation values of physical quantities from the dynamical probability distribution function. The theoretical curves show satisfactory agreement with Monte Carlo simulation results in the appropriate temperature and time regions. A comparison is made with the results of a dynamics theory by Cool…
We evaluate the corrections to the mean field values of the $x$ and the $z$ exponents at the first order in the $ε$-expansion, for $T=T_c $. We find that both $x$ and $z$ are decreasing when the space dimension decreases.
The analysis of the solution with full replica symmetry breaking in the vicinity of $T_c$ of a general spin glass model with reflection symmetry is performed. The leading term in the order parameter function expansion is obtained. Parisi equation for the model is written.
We present a quantum statistical analysis of a microscopic mean-field model of structural glasses at low temperatures. The model can be thought of as arising from a random Born von Karman expansion of the full interaction potential. The problem is reduced to a single-site theory formulated in terms of an imaginary-time path integral using replicas to deal with the disorder. We study the physical properties of the system in thermodynamic equilibrium and develop both perturbative and non-perturbative methods to solve the model. The perturbation theory is formulated as a loop expansion in terms o…
Infinite-range spin-glass models with Levy-distributed interactions show a spin-glass transition with similarities to both the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model and to disordered spin systems on finite connectivity random graphs. Despite the diverging moments of the coupling distribution the transition can be analyzed within the replica approach by working at imaginary temperature. Within the replica-symmetric approximation a self-consistent equation for the distribution of local fields is derived and from the instability of the paramagnetic solution to this equation the glass-transition temperatu…
We discuss generation of series expansions for Ising spin-glasses with a symmetric $\pm J$ (i.e. bimodal) distribution on d-dimensional hypercubic lattices using linked-cluster methods. Simplifications for the bimodal distribution allow us to go to higher order than for a general distribution. We discuss two types of problem, one classical and one quantum. The classical problem is that of the Ising spin glass in a longitudinal magnetic field, $h$, for which we obtain high temperature series expansions in variables $\tanh(J/T)$ and $\tanh(h/T)$. The quantum problem is a $T=0$ study of the Ising…
We calculate the mean number of metastable states of an Ising ferromagnet on random thin graphs of fixed connectivity c. We find, as for mean field spin glasses that this mean increases exponentially with the number of sites, and is the same as that calculated for the +/- J spin glass on the same graphs. An annealed calculation of the number <N_{MS}(E)> of metastable states of energy E is carried out. For small c, an analytic result is obtained. The result is compared with the one obtained for spin glasses in order to discuss the role played by loops on thin graphs and hence the effect of real…
Orientational glasses with CO molecules occupying 26% and 90% of the octahedral interstitial sites in the C60 lattice have been investigated by the dilatometric method in a temperature interval of 2.5 - 23 K. At temperatures 4 - 6 K the glasses undergo a first-order phase transition which is evident from the hysteresis of the thermal expansion and the maxima in the temperature dependences of the linear thermal expansion coefficients, and the thermalization times of the samples. The effect of the noncentral CO-C60 interaction upon the thermal expansion and the phase transition in these glasses …
In this paper, we investigate the finite connectivity spin-glass problem. Our work is focused on the expansion around the point of infinite connectivity of the free energy of a spin glass on a graph with Poissonian distributed connectivity: we are interested to study the first-order correction to the infinite connectivity result for large values or the connectivity $z$. The same calculations for one and two replica symmetry breakings were done in previous works; the result for the first-order correction was divergent in the limit of zero temperature and it was suggested that it was an artifact…
We study the dynamics of macroscopic observables such as the magnetization and the energy per degree of freedom in Ising spin models on random graphs of finite connectivity, with random bonds and/or heterogeneous degree distributions. To do so we generalize existing implementations of dynamical replica theory and cavity field techniques to systems with strongly disordered and locally tree-like interactions. We illustrate our results via application to the dynamics of e.g. $\pm J$ spin-glasses on random graphs and of the overlap in finite connectivity Sourlas codes. All results are tested again…
The stiffness exponents in the glass phase for lattice spin glasses in dimensions $d=3,...,6$ are determined. To this end, we consider bond-diluted lattices near the T=0 glass transition point $p^*$. This transition for discrete bond distributions occurs just above the bond percolation point $p_c$ in each dimension. Numerics suggests that both points, $p_c$ and $p^*$, seem to share the same $1/d$-expansion, at least for several leading orders, each starting with $1/(2d)$. Hence, these lattice graphs have average connectivities of $α=2dp\gtrsim1$ near $p^*$ and exact graph-reduction methods bec…
Quantum annealing promises to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems faster than current transistor-based computer technologies. Although to date only one commercially-available quantum annealer is procurable, one can already start to map out the application scope of these novel optimization machines. These mid-scale programmable analog special-purpose devices could, potentially, revolutionize optimization. However, their disruptive application domain remains to be found. While the commercial analog quantum optimization machine by D-Wave Systems Inc. already exceeds 1000 qubits, her…
We consider a finite range spin glass model in arbitrary dimension, where the strength of the two-body coupling decays to zero over some distance $γ^{-1}$. We show that, under mild assumptions on the interaction potential, the infinite-volume free energy of the system converges to that of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick one, in the Kac limit $γ\to0$. This could be a first step toward an expansion around mean field theory, for spin glass systems.
We study analytically and numerically the statics and the off-equilibrium dynamics of spin models over finitely connected random graphs. We identify a threshold value for the connectivity beyond which the loop structure of the graph becomes thermodynamically relevant. Glauber dynamics simulations show that this loop structure is responsible for the onset of dynamical features of a local character (dynamical heterogeneities and spontaneous time scale separation), consistently with previous (experimental and numerical) studies of glasses and spin glasses in their approach to the low temperature …
Given discrete degrees of freedom (spins) on a graph interacting via an energy function, what can be said about the energy local minima and associated inherent structures? Using the lid algorithm in the context of a spin glass energy function, we investigate the properties of the energy landscape for a variety of graph topologies. First, we find that the multiplicity Ns of the inherent structures generically has a lognormal distribution. In addition, the large volume limit of ln<Ns>/<lnNs> differs from unity, except for the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model. Second, we find simple scaling laws for…
The linear thermal expansion coefficients a(T) of N2 - C60 solutions with 9.9% and 100% of the C60 lattice interstitials filled with N2 have been investigated in the interval 2.2 - 24 K. The dependence a(T) has a hysteresis suggesting co-existence of two types of orientational glasses in these solutions. The features of the glasses are compared. The characteristic times of phase transformations in the solutions and reorientation of C60 molecules have been estimated.
A relation between the freezing temperature ($T^{}_{\rm g}$) and the exchange couplings ($J^{}_{ij}$) in metallic spin-glasses is derived, taking the spin-correlations ($G^{}_{ij}$) into account. This approach does not involve a disorder-average. The expansion of the correlations to first order in $J^{}_{ij}/T^{}_{\rm g}$ leads to the molecular-field result from Thouless-Anderson-Palmer. Employing the current theory of the spin-interaction in disordered metals, an equation for $T^{}_{\rm g}$ as a function of the concentration of impurities is obtained, which reproduces the available data from …
