We investigate the $s$-wave three-body system of two neutrons and one flavored meson with total spin-isospin $J=0,I=3/2$. The meson-neutron scattering length can become infinitely large in an unphysical region of the quark mass when extrapolated from strangeness to charm in the so-called zero coupling limit. Using a low-energy cluster effective field theory, we demonstrate that the Efimov effect is manifest in the three-body system when the meson-neutron scattering length is extrapolated to the unitary limit of the two-body interaction. We thereby discuss the consequence of universal physics in the physical $K^{-}nn$ and $D^{0}nn$ systems.
We get the distributions of shower partons initiated by heavy quarks $c$ and $b$ by studying the fragmentation functions in the framework of the recombination model. The transverse momentum spectra of heavy flavored mesons are predicted with these distributions. We find that the contribution from the recombination of thermal-shower partons is an important part in the total spectrum for the mesons. We predict the heavy flavored meson productions for different centralities with the heavy quark fugacities fitted by the experimental data of $J/ψ$ transverse momentum spectra in Au+Au collisions.
In this work, we study the thermodynamic behavior of heavy-flavored meson matter in the framework of $(σ,ω)$-meson-exchange model in relativistic mean field theory. We find a decreasing of the effective masses of $D$ and $B$ mesons as the temperature increases. By using the effective mass and maximum value of dissociation temperatures available from lattice QCD, the masses of the bound states $D \bar{D}$ and $B \bar{B}$ are estimated in 2 MeV for both molecules. For the $B$-meson matter, the pressure presents an exotic behavior, being negative for temperatures above 6.6 times the deconfinement…
The observed strong suppression of heavy flavored hadrons produced with high $p_T$, is caused by final state interactions with the created dense medium. Vacuum radiation of high-pT heavy quarks ceases at a short time scale, as is confirmed by pQCD calculations and by LEP measurements of the fragmentation functions of heavy quarks. Production of a heavy flavored hadrons in a dense medium is considerably delayed due to prompt breakup of the hadrons by the medium. This causes a strong suppression of the heavy quark yield because of the specific shape of the fragmentation function. The parameter-f…
We further explore a recent proposal that the vector mesons in QCD have a special role as Chern-Simons fields on various QCD objects such as domain walls and the one flavored baryons. We compute contributions to domain wall theories and to the baryon current coming from a generalized Wess-Zumino term including vector mesons. The conditions that lead to the expected Chern-Simons terms and the correct spectrum of baryons, coincide with the conditions for vector meson dominance. This observation provides a theoretical explanation to the phenomenological principle of vector dominance, as well as a…
Hadronization of heavy quarks reveals various unusual features. Gluon radiation by a heavy quark originated from a hard process, ceases shortly on a distance of the order of few fm. Due to the dead-cone effect a heavy quark radiates only a small fraction of its energy. This is why the measured fragmentation function D(z) peaks at large z. Hadronization finishes at very short distances, well shorter than 1 fm, by production of a colorless small-size Qq-bar dipole. This ensures dominance of a perturbative mechanism and makes possible factorization of short and long distances. The latter correspo…
This dissertation investigates exotic hadrons with heavy-quark content that may be understood as being generated dynamically from the hadron-hadron interaction. This interaction is derived from a suitable effective Lagrangian and properly unitarized in a full coupled-channel basis. In particular, we discuss the possible interpretation of some of the Ωc* excited states recently discovered at LHCb as being meson-baryon molecular states. We also discuss the dynamical generation of excited open-charm mesons from the scattering of pseudoscalar and vector charmed mesons off light mesons. We show tha…
We review heavy quark flavor and spin symmetries, their exploitation in heavy meson effective theories and the flavored couplings of charmed and light mesons in the definition of their effective Lagrangians. We point out how nonperturbative continuum QCD approaches based on Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations can be used to calculate strong and leptonic decays of open-charm mesons and heavy quarkonia. The strong decay $D^*\to Dπ$ serves as a benchmark, as it is the only physical open-charm observable that can be related to the effective Lagrangian's couplings. Nonetheless, a quantitat…
The LHCb Collaboration has recently observed two narrow baryon resonances with beauty. Their masses and decay modes look consistent with the quark model orbitally excited states Lambda_b(5912) and Lambda*_b(5920), with quantum numbers J^P=1/2^- and 3/2^-, respectively. We predict the existence of these states within a unitarized meson-baryon coupled-channel dynamical model, which implements heavy-quark spin symmetry. Masses, quantum numbers and couplings of these resonances to the different meson-baryon channels are obtained. We find that the resonances Lambda^0_b(5912) and Lambda^0_b(5920) ar…
We study ground and radial excitations of flavor singlet and flavored pseudoscalar mesons within the framework of the rainbow-ladder truncation using an infrared massive and finite interaction in agreement with recent results for the gluon-dressing function from lattice QCD and Dyson-Schwinger equations. Whereas the ground-state masses and decay constants of the light mesons as well as charmonia are well described, we confirm previous observations that this truncation is inadequate to provide realistic predictions for the spectrum of excited and exotic states. Moreover, we find a complex conju…
The ratio of nuclear modification factors of high-$p_T$ heavy-flavored mesons tolight-flavored hadrons (heavy-to-light ratio) is shown to be a sensitive tool to test medium-induced energy loss at RHIC and LHC energies. Heavy-to-light ratios of $D$ mesons at RHIC in the region $7<p_T<12$ GeV, and of $D$ and $B$ mesons at the LHC in the region $10<p_T<20$ GeV, are proposed for such a test. Finally, the different contributions to the nuclear modification factor for electrons at RHIC are analyzed. Preliminary PHENIX and STAR data are compatible with radiative energy loss provided the contribution …
Qualitative changes in the collective excitation spectra of the $ρ$-meson triplet in neutron matter is studied, with particular emphasis on the breaking of the discrete $p\leftrightarrow n$ symmetry. The appearance of additional branches in the dispersion characteristics, the mass splitting among the charge states, the splitting between longitudinal and transverse modes of the $ρ^{\pm}$ mesons and the appearance of `island' modes (or loops) in the time-like region are some of the features that are exposed.
The existence of quark matter inside the cores of heavy neutron stars is a possibility which can be probed with modern astrophysical observations. We use an (axial)vector meson extended quark-meson model to describe quark matter in the core of neutron stars. We discover that an additional parameter constraint is necessary in the quark model to ensure chiral restoration at high densities. By investigating hybrid star sequences with various parameter sets we show that low sigma meson masses are needed to fulfill the upper radius constraints, and that the maximum mass of stable hybrid stars is on…
The vacuum fluctuation (VF) effects on the properties of the hyperonic neutron star matter are investigated in the framework of the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. The VF corrections result in the density dependence of in-medium baryon and meson masses. We compare our results obtained by adopting three kinds of meson-hyperon couplings. The introduction of both hyperons and VF corrections soften the equation of state (EoS) for the hyperonic neutron star matter and hence reduce hyperonic neutron star masses. The presence of the $δ$ field enlarges the masses and radii of hyperonic neutron s…
We calculate the spin dependent structure functions g1(x) and g2(x) of the proton and neutron. Our calculation uses the meson cloud model of nucleon structure and includes the effects of kinematic terms which mix transverse and longitudinal spin components. We find small corrections to the nucleon structure functions, however these are significant for the neutron.
Using the generalized mean field theory, we have studied the relation among the effective meson masses, the effective meson-nucleon couplings and the equation of state (EOS) in asymmetric nuclear matter. If the effective omega-meson mass becomes smaller at high density, the EOS becomes stiffer. However, if we require that the omega-meson mean field is proportional to the baryon density, the effective omega-nucleon coupling automatically becomes smaller at the same time as the effective omega-meson mass becomes smaller. Consequently, the EOS becomes softer. A similar relation is found for the e…
A new improved quark mass density-dependent model including u, d quarks, $σ$ mesons, $ω$ mesons and $ρ$ mesons is presented. Employing this model, the properties of nuclear matter, neutron matter and neutron star are studied. We find that it can describe above properties successfully. The results given by the new improved quark mass density- dependent model and by the quark meson coupling model are compared.
The properties of neutron stars are investigated by including $δ$ meson field in the Lagrangian density of modified quark-meson coupling model. The $Σ^-$ population with $δ$ meson is larger than that without $δ$ meson at the beginning, but it becomes smaller than that without $δ$ meson as the appearance of $Ξ^-$. The $δ$ meson has opposite effects on hadronic matter with or without hyperons: it softens the EOSes of hadronic matter with hyperons, while it stiffens the EOSes of pure nucleonic matter. Furthermore, the leptons and the hyperons have the similar influence on $δ$ meson effects. The $…
We study the properties of neutron star using the chiral quark-meson coupling model, in which the quark-quark hyperfine interaction due to the exchanges of gluon and pion based on chiral symmetry is considered. We also examine the effects of hyperons and $Δ$-isobars in a neutron star. Extending the SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry to more general SU(3) flavor symmetry in the vector-meson couplings to baryons, the maximum mass of neutron star can reach the recently observed, massive pulsar mass, $1.97 \pm 0.04 M_{\odot}$. In this calculation, $Λ$ and $Ξ$ are generated in a neutron star, while $Σ$ and…
The present status in the field of strange mesons in nuclei and neutron stars is reviewed. In particular, the $\bar K N$ interaction, that is governed by the presence of the $Λ(1405)$, is analyzed and the formation of the $\bar K NN$ bound state is discussed. Moreover, the properties of $\bar K$ in dense nuclear matter are studied, in connection with strangeness production in nuclear collisions and kaon condensation in neutron stars.
Using a purely hadronic model, we study the charge-symmetry-breaking $ρ$-$ω$, $σ$-$δ$, $σ$-$ρ$ and $δ$-$ω$ mixing amplitudes in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. The basic assumption of the model is that the mixing amplitude is generated by nucleon and anti-nucleon loops and hence driven entirely by the difference between proton and neutron Fermi momenta and the proton-neutron mass difference. We find that the behavior of the mixing amplitude is very complicated in the spacelike region and quite sensitive to the proton fraction of nuclear medium and nuclear density. In particular, in neutron …
We investigate the QCD phase diagram of isospin asymmetric matter using the Polyakov loop extended quark meson (PQM) model with vector interaction. The critical point temperature is found to decrease in isospin asymmetric matter and disappear at large isospin chemical potential. We also discuss the QCD phase transition in the neutron star core. From comparison of the QCD phase diagram in PQM and corresponding baryon and isospin chemical potentials of neutron star matter in relativistic mean field models, we show that the order of the chiral phase transition in the neutron star core could be cr…
The TDA and RPA many-body methods are applied to a QCD motivated Hamiltonian in the Coulomb gauge. The gluon effects in the low energy domain are accounted for by the Instantaneous color-Coulomb Interaction between color-charge densities, approximated by the sum of a Coulomb and a confining linear potentials. We use the eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator as a basis for the quantization of the quark fields, and discuss how suitable this basis is in various steps of the calculation. We show that the TDA results already reproduce the gross-structure of the light flavored meson states. The …
We investigate the effects of meson-mass reduction on the properties of the neutron star matter. We adopt the Brown-Rho scaling law to take into account density dependence of meson masses in the quantum hadrodynamics, quark-meson coupling and modified quark-meson coupling models. It is found that the equation of state becomes stiff when the mass of meson is reduced in dense medium. We discuss its implication on the properties of the neutron star.
We calculate the total mass, radius, moment of inertia and surface gravitational redshift for neutron stars using various equations of state. The latter are derived from recent meson-exchange potential models, employing both a relativistic and a non-relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach.
In this paper we study leading neutron production in photon - hadron interactions which take place in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at large impact parameters. Using a model that describes the recent leading neutron data at HERA, we consider exclusive vector meson production in association with a leading neutron in $pp/pA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. The total cross sections and rapidity distributions of $ρ$, $ϕ$ and $J/Ψ$ produced together with a leading neutron are computed. Our results indicate that the study of these processes is feasible and that it can be used to improve the understa…
In order to obtain the properties of compact stellar objects, appropriate equations of state have to be used. In the literature, strange meson fields, namely the scalar meson field $σ^*(975)$ and the vector meson field $ϕ(1020)$, had to be considered in order to reproduce the observed strongly attractive $ΛΛ$ interaction. The introduction of these strange mesons makes the equations of state harder (EOS) due to the repulsive effect of the $ϕ(1020)$ meson. In this work the inclusion of these mesons in the equation of state and their influence on the properties of the neutron stars are investigat…
We study the effects of isovector-scalar ($δ$)-meson on neutron star. Influence of $δ$-meson on both static and rotating neutron star is discussed. Inclusion of $δ$-meson in a neutron star system consisting of proton, neutron and electron, make the equation of state stiffer in higher density and consequently increases the maximum mass of the star. But induction of $δ$-meson in the hyperon star decreases the maximum mass of the hyperon star. This is due to the early evolution of hyperons in presence of $δ-$meson.
In the present work the conjunction of chiral SU(3) model with QCD sum rules is employed to explore the possibility of $ρ$ meson condensation in neutron stars. The quark and gluon condensates in terms of which the in-medium masses of $ρ$ mesons can be expressed are calculated using the chiral SU(3) model in the charge neutral matter which is relevant for neutron stars. It is observed that condition of $ρ$ meson condensation is satisfied for the density of about 7$ρ_{0}$, where $ρ_{0}$ is the nuclear saturation density. In the end, a brief qualitative discussion of the magnetic field is also in…
Density dependent relativistic Hartree-Fock theory has been extended to describe properties of exotic nuclei. The effects of Fock exchange terms and of pi - and rho - meson contributions are discussed. These effects are found to be more important for neutron rich nuclei than for nuclei near the valley of stability.
The effects of strong magnetic fields on neutron star matter are investigated in the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. The QMC model describes a nuclear many-body system as nonoverlapping MIT bags in which quarks interact through self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons in the mean-field approximation. The results of the QMC model are compared with those obtained in a relativistic mean-field (RMF) model. It is found that quantitative differences exist between the QMC and RMF models, while qualitative trends of the magnetic field effects on the equation of state and composition of n…
It is shown that recently proposed RMF model with $σ$ and $δ$ meson interaction agrees with the observational data and presents an interesting structure with phase transition in the outer part of neutron star core.
In this work we calculate neutron and proton energy gaps in neutron star matter, using the Bonn meson--exchange interactions and a model--space approach to the gap equation. This approach allows a consistent calculation of energy gaps and single particle energies with the model--space Brueckner--Hartree--Fock (MBHF) method, without double counting of two--particle correlations. Neutron energy gaps are calculated at zero and finite temperature. Proton energy gaps are calculated at beta equilibrium, and it is shown that the inclusion of muons has a significant effect. The results are compared wi…
An explicit quark model, based on a mean field description of non-overlapping nucleon bags bound by the self-consistent exchange of $σ$, $ω$ and $ρ$ mesons, is used to investigate the properties of both nuclear and neutron matter. We establish a clear understanding of the relationship between this model, which incorporates the internal structure of the nucleon, and QHD. Finally, we use the model to study the density dependence of the quark condensate in-medium.
We explore the equation of state for nuclear matter in the quark-meson coupling model, including full Fock terms. The comparison with phenomenological constraints can be used to restrict the few additional parameters appearing in the Fock terms which are not present at Hartree level. Because the model is based upon the in-medium modification of the quark structure of the bound hadrons, it can be applied without additional parameters to include hyperons and to calculate the equation of state of dense matter in beta-equilibrium. This leads naturally to a study of the properties of neutron stars,…
Using the quark-meson coupling model with the cloudy bag, we construct the equation of state for neutron stars with hyperons in SU(3) flavor symmetry. The hyperfine interaction due to the gluon exchange and the pion-cloud effect inside a baryon is taken into account in vacuum and nuclear matter. We investigate how the quark degrees of freedom and the exchanges of gluon and pion between two quarks affect the properties of nuclear and neutron-star matter. It is found that the variation of baryon substructure in matter plays an important role in supporting massive neutron stars.
We study the ground-state structure of nuclei in the vicinity of the one-neutron dripline within the latest version of the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model with a particular emphasis on 23O. For this nucleus the model predicts a [22O(0+) + n (2s_{1/2})] configuration for its ground state, with a one neutron separation energy in close agreement with the corresponding experimental value. The wave function describing the valence neutron-core relative motion was then used to calculate the Coulomb dissociation of 23O on a lead target at a beam energy of 422 MeV/nucleon. The experimental neutron-cor…
In this work we study properties of neutron star crusts, where matter is expected to consist of nuclei surrounded by superfluid neutrons and a homogeneous background of relativistic electrons. The nuclei are disposed in a Coulomb lattice, and it is believed that the structure of the lattice influences considerably the specific heat of the neutronic matter inside the crust of a neutron star. Using a modern meson--exchange potential in the framework of a local--density approximation we calculate the neutronic specific heat accounting for various shapes of the Coulomb lattice, from spherical to n…
A quark-meson coupling model based on the quark model proposed by Bogoliubov for the description of the quark dynamics is developed and applied to the description of neutron stars. Starting from a su(3) symmetry approach, it is shown that this symmetry has to be broken in order to satisfy the constraints set by the hypernuclei and by neutron stars. The model is able to describe observations such as two solar mass stars or the radius of canonical neutron stars within the uncertainties presently accepted. If the optical potentials for $Λ$ and $Ξ$ hyperons in symmetric nuclear matter at saturatio…
Schwinger's boson solution for massless fermions in QED in 1+1D has been applied and generalized to quarks interacting in QED and QCD interactions, leading to stable and confined open-string QED and QCD boson excitations of the quark-QCD-QED system in 1+1D. Just as the open-string QCD excitations in 1+1D can be the idealization of QCD mesons with a flux tube in 3+1D, so the open-string QED excitations in 1+1D may likewise be the idealization of QED mesons with masses in the tens of MeV region, corresponding possibly to the anomalous X17 and E38 particles observed recently. A further search for…
We investigate the correlation between nuclear neutron radii and the radius of neutron stars. We use a well-established hadronic SU(3) model based on chiral symmetry that naturally includes non-linear vector meson and scalar meson - vector meson couplings. The relative strengths of the couplings modify the nuclear isospin-dependent interactions. We study the dependence of nuclear and neutron star radii on the coupling strengths. The relevance of the results for parity-violating electron-nucleus scattering and the URCA process in neutron stars is discussed.
In the framework of relativistic mean field theory, the relativistic neutrino emissivity of the nucleonic and hyperonic direct Urca processes in the degenerate baryon matter of neutron stars are studied. We investigate particularly the influence of the isovector scalar interaction which is considered by exchanging $δ$ meson on the nucleonic and hyperonic direct Urca processes. The results indicate that $δ$ mesons lead to obvious enhancement of the total neutrino emissivity, which must result in more rapid cooling rate of neutron star matter.
The possibility of meson condensation in stars and in heavy-ion collisions has been discussed in the past. Here, we study whether rho meson condensation ($ρ^{-}$) can occur in very dense matter and determine the effect of strong magnetic fields on this condensation. We find that rho meson condensates can appear in the core of the neutron star assuming a rho mass which is reduced due to in-medium effects. We find that the magnetic field has a non-negligible effect in triggering condensation.
Using several relativistic mean field models (such as GM1, GM3, NL3, TM1, FSUGold and IU-FSU) as well as the quark-meson coupling model, we calculate the particle fractions, the equation of state, the maximum mass and radius of a neutron star within relativistic Hartree approximation. In determining the couplings of the isoscalar, vector mesons to the octet baryons, we examine the extension of SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry to SU(3) flavor symmetry. Furthermore, we consider the strange ($σ^{\ast}$ and $ϕ$) mesons, and study how they affect the equation of state. We find that the equation of state …
We use a relativistic model of meson-exchange currents to compute the proton-neutron and proton-proton yields in $(e,e')$ scattering from $^{12}$C in the 2p-2h channel. We compute the response functions and cross section with the relativistic Fermi gas model for a range of kinematics from intermediate to high momentum transfers. We find a large contribution of neutron-proton configurations in the initial state, as compared to proton-proton pairs. The different emission probabilities of distinct species of nucleon pairs are produced in our model only by meson-exchange currents, mainly by the $Δ…
The extended nonlinear model has been applied to construct neutron star matter equation of state. In the case of neutron star matter with non-zero strangeness the extension of the vector meson sector by the inclusion of nonlinear mixed terms results in the stiffening of the equation of state and accordingly in the higher value of the maximum neutron star mass.
Recent years continue to be an exciting time for the neutron star physics, providing many new observations and insights to these natural laboratories of cold dense matter. To describe them, there are many models on the market but still none that would reproduce all observed and experimental data. The quark-meson coupling model stands out with its natural inclusion of hyperons as dense matter building blocks, and fewer parameters necessary to obtain the nuclear matter equation of state. The latest advances of the QMC model and its application to the neutron star physics will be presented, withi…
The effect of the mesons $f_{0}(975)$ and $ϕ(1020)$ on the surface gravitional redshift of the neutron star PSR J0348+0432 is examined in the framework of the relativistic mean field theory by choosing the suitable hyperon coupling constants. We find that compared with that without considering the mesons $f_{0}(975)$ and $ϕ(1020)$, the value range of the radius $R$ of the neutron star PSR J0348+0432 would be changed from a narrow range 12.964 km $\sim$ 12.364 km to a wider range 12.941 km $\sim$ 11.907 km corresponding to the observation mass M=1.97 M$_{\odot}$$\sim$2.05 M$_{\odot}$. We also f…
We explore the impact of in-medium modification of the properties of vector mesons on the nuclear equation of state and neutron star properties. It is found that in-medium modifications stiffen the nuclear equation of state considerably. If this feature has its correspondence in the full treatment of dense hadronic matter, then very little room is left for the existence of exotic phases like quark matter or boson condensates in the centers of neutron stars of canonical mass.
The Maxwell and Glendenning construction scenarios of deconfinement phase transition in neutron star matter are investigated. The hadronic phase is described within the relativistic mean-field (RMF) theory, if also the scalar-isovector δ-meson field is taken into account. The strange quark phase is described in the frame of MIT bag model, including the effect of perturbative one-gluon exchange interactions. The influence of the δ-meson field on the deconfinement phase transition boundary characteristics is discussed.
We investigate the properties of the neutron star with relativistic mean field models. We incorporate in the quantum hadrodynamics and in the quark-meson coupling models a possible reduction of meson masses in nuclear matter. The equation of state for neutron star matter is obtained and is employed in Oppenheimer-Volkov equation to extract the maximum mass of the stable neutron star. We find that the equation of state, the composition and the properties of the neutron stars are sensitive to the values of the meson masses in medium.
We study the effects of isovector-scalar meson $δ$ on the equation of state (EOS) of neutron star matter in strong magnetic fields. The EOS of neutron-star matter and nucleon effective masses are calculated in the framework of Lagrangian field theory, which is solved within the mean-field approximation. From the numerical results one can find that the $δ$-field leads to a remarkable splitting of proton and neutron effective masses. The strength of $δ$-field decreases with the increasing of the magnetic field and is little at ultrastrong field. The proton effective mass is highly influenced by …
This paper gives an overview of the model of a neutron star with non-zero strangeness constructed within the framework of the nonlinear realization of the chiral $SU(3)_{L}\times SU(3)_{R}$ symmetry. The emphasis is put on the physical properties of the matter of a neutron star. The obtained solution is particularly aimed at the problem of the construction of a theoretical model of a neutron star matter with hyperons that will give high value of the maximum mass.
A first measurement is presented of exclusive photoproduction of $ρ^0$ mesons associated with leading neutrons at HERA. The data were taken with the H1 detector in the years $2006$ and $2007$ at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=319$ GeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $1.16$ pb$^{-1}$. The $ρ^0$ mesons with transverse momenta $p_T<1$ GeV are reconstructed from their decays to charged pions, while leading neutrons carrying a large fraction of the incoming proton momentum, $x_L>0.35$, are detected in the Forward Neutron Calorimeter. The phase space of the measurement is defined…
