We carry out a re-analysis of the photometric data in Cousin RI bands which was taken under the Nainital Microlensing Survey during 1998 to 2002 with the aim to detect gravitational microlensing events in the direction of M31. Here, we do photometric analysis of a faint W UMa binary CSS_J004259.3+410629 identified in the target field. The orbital period of this star is found to be 0.266402+/-0.000018 day. The photometric mass ratio, q, is found to be 0.28+/-0.01. The photometric light curves are investigated using the Wilson-Devinney code and absolute parameters are determined using empirical relations which provide masses and radii of the binary as M1 = 1.19+/-0.09 Msun, M2 = 0.33+/-0.02 Msun and R1 = 1.02+/-0.04 Rsun, R2 = 0.58+/-0.08 Rsun based on the Rc band data. Almost similar values are found by analysing Ic band data. From the photometric light curve examination, the star is understood to be a low mass-ratio over-contact binary of A-subtype with a high fill-out factor of about 47%. The binary system is found to be located approximately at a distance of 2.64+/-0.03 kpc having a separation of 2.01+/-0.05 Rsun between the two components.
The study of W UMa binary systems give a wealth of information about its nature as well as about its parent body (if any), like clusters. In this paper, we present the I passband photometric solutions of four W UMa binaries in the open cluster Berkeley 39 using the latest version of WD program. The result shows that, two binary systems are W subtype W UMa binary systems and another two systems are H subtype W UMa binary systems. No third body is found in any of the four systems. We found a correlation between the period and mass-ratio as well as temperature and mass-ratio for the respective va…
New BVRI light curves of the eclipsing binary system 1SWASP J160156.04+202821.6 have been obtained with the 1.88-m telescope of Kottamia Astronomical Observatory (KAO), Egypt on June, 2013. New twenty times of minima of the system J1601 and new ephemeris have been reduced and derived from the present photometry. A preliminary determination of the geometric and photometric element parameters of the system J1601 has been derived.
New light curves and photometric solutions of FP Lyn, FV CVn and V354 UMa are presented. It is found that these three systems are W-subtype shallow contact binaries. In addition, it is obvious that the light curves of FP Lyn and V354 UMa are asymmetric. Therefore, a hot spot was added on the primary star of FP Lyn and a dark spot was added on the secondary star of V354 UMa. At the same time, we added a third light to the photometric solution of FP Lyn for the final result. The obtained mass ratios and fill-out factors are $q=1.153$ and $f=13.4\%$ for FP Lyn, $q=1.075$ and $f=4.6\%$ for FV CVn,…
The CCD observations for the W UMa type binary systems GSC 2362-2866 and GSC 107-596 have been analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney Code to determine their photometric orbital and physical parameters. The results show that both systems may be classified as A-subtype of W-UMa eclipsing binary. The mass ratio of GSC 2362-2866 is found to be q = 0.73, with an over-contact degree of f = 0.122%. While the mass ratio of the system GSC 107-596 is found to be q = 0.70 with an over-contact degree of f = 0.166% in V_band and q = 0.69 and f = 0.111% in R band
A total of 431 photoelectric B and V observations are presented for the short period . The measurements have been obtained in two successive nights, 27/28 and 28/29 of September 1995, and represent the whole light curve phases. Four times of minimum light, for each filter, were deduced and new periods have been derived as 0.277892 day from the present photometric observations. New light curves have been constructed, investigated and analyzed by using the recent version of W-D code.
DK Cyg (P = 0.4707) is a W Ursae Majoris type eclipsing binary system that undergoes complete eclipses. All the published photoelectric data have been collected and utilized to re-examine and update the period behavior of the system. A significant period increase with rate of 12.590x10-11 day/cycle was calculated. New period and ephemeris has been calculated for the system. A long term photometric solution study was performed and a light curve elements were calculated. We investigated the evolutionary status of the system using theoretical evolutionary models.
V0842 Cep is a W UMa-type binary star that has been neglected since its discovery. We analysed the VR$_c$I$_c$ light curves, obtained by the 1 m telescope at the Weihai Observatory of Shandong University, using the Wilson-Devinney code. V0842 Cep was found to be a shallow contact binary system (f=8.7$\%$) with a mass ratio of 2.281. Because its orbital inclination is greater than 80$^\circ$, the photometric results are reliable. A period study is included which reveals a continually decreasing orbital period ($\frac{\mathrm{d}p}{\mathrm{d}t}$=1.50($\pm$0.42)$\times$10$^{-7}$dyr$^{-1}$). This t…
By analyzing two sets of complete $BVR_cI_c$ light curves of V342 UMa and three sets of complete $BVR_cI_c$ light curves of V509 Cam, we determined that the two systems are both W-subtype contact binaries and that V342 UMa shows a shallow contact configuration, while V509 Cam exhibits a medium contact configuration. Since both of them are totally eclipsing binaries, the physical parameters derived only by the photometric light curves are reliable.Meanwhile, the period changes of the two targets were analyzed based on all available eclipsing times. We discovered that V342 UMa shows long-term pe…
Photometric observations in Sloan g' and i' bands of four W UMa stars, NSVS 2244206, NSVS 908513, CSS J004004.7+385531, VSX J062624.4+570907, are presented. The light curve solutions reveal that all targets have overcontact configurations with fillout factor within 0.15-0.26. Their components are of G-K spectral type and almost in thermal contacts. They are relatively close also in size and luminosity: the radius rations r_2/r_1 are within 0.75-0.90; the luminosity ratios l_2/l_1 are within 0.53-0.63. The results of the light curve solution of CSS J004007.7+385531 imply weak limb-darkening eff…
MASTER OT J004527.52+503213.8 (hereafter MASTER J004527) is a dwarf nova discovered by the MASTER project in 2013. At 18:20 UTC on 24 October 2020, brightening of this object was reported to vsnet-alert (24843 by Denisenko). This was the second report of a superoutburst after its discovery. Photometric observations were made using the 23.5-cm Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at Okayama University of Science observatory soon after the alert through 4 November 2020. In this work, we present the photometric data from our observation, and the analysis of the light curves of MASTER J004527 during the 2…
Cataclysmic variables are among the photometrically most unstable stars in the zoo of stellar objects, exhibiting light variations on all time-scales between millennia and seconds. The literature is full of reports on variable phenomena which often require independent confirmation before they can be accepted as established facts. In this contribution I investigate accounts on miscellaneous variable features observed in six cataclysmic variables, drawing for this purpose largely on archival data, most of which have not been investigated in detail in the past, and complementing these data with s…
The first V Rc Ic bands light curves of MQ UMa are presented and analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney (W-D) program. It is discovered that MQ UMa is an A-subtype contact binary with a high fill-out (f=82 %) and a low mass ratio (q = 0:195), which indicates that it is in the late evolutionary stage of latetype tidal-locked binary stars. The mass of the primary and secondary stars are estimated and the evolutionary status of the two components are placed in the H-R diagram. The W-D solutions also indicates that MQ UMa may be a triple system with an F5V type additional component. A sample of sixtee…
We present analysis of optical photometric and polarimetric observations of contact binary system FO Hydra (FO Hya). The computed period of the system is 0.469556+/-0.000003 days. An O-C curve analysis indicates an increase in its period by 5.77x10^{-8} day yr^{-1}. The photometric light curves are analyzed using Wilson-Devinney code (WD). The present analysis shows that FO Hya is a B-subtype of W UMa type contact binary. The radii and mass of primary and secondary components are found, respectively, to be R_1 = 1.62+/-0.03 R_sun and R_2 = 0.91+/-0.02 R_sun, and M_1 = 1.31+/-0.07 M_sun and M_2…
The CCD photometric data of the EW-type binary, II CMa, which is a contact star in the field of the middle-aged open cluster Berkeley 33, are presented. The complete R light curve was obtained. In the present paper, using the five CCD epochs of light minimum (three of them are calculated from Mazur et al. (1993)'s data and two from our new data), the orbital period P was revised to 0.22919704 days. The complete R light curve was analyzed by using the 2003 version of W-D (Wilson-Devinney) program. It is found that this is a contact system with a mass ratio $q=0.9$ and a contact factor $f=4.1%$.…
The first four-color light curves of V868 Mon in the $B$ $V$ $R_c$ and $I_c$ bands are presented and analyzed by using the Wilson-Devinney method of the 2013 version. It is discovered that V868 Mon is an A-subtype contact binary (f=$58.9\,\%$) with a large temperature difference of 916$K$ between the two components. Using the eight new times of light minimum determined by the authors together with those collected from literatures, the authors found that the general trend of the observed-calculate ($O$-$C$) curve shows a upward parabolic variation that corresponds to a long-term increase in the…
We present our ground-based CCD observations of the close binary systems DD Mon and XY UMa in B, V, R and I bands. The light curves are analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney code (W-D) for the derivation of the geometric and photometric elements of the systems. We compare the methods of photometric and spectroscopic mass ratio determination in these binaries, as a function of all typical difficulties, which arise during the analysis of such systems (light curve asymmetries, third light etc). Finally, a new spot model is suggested for the eclipsing system XY UMa, which belongs to the RS CVn type o…
The $B$ $V$ $R_c$ $I_c$ bands light curves of the newly discovered binary system \astrobj{GSC 03122-02426} are obtained and analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney (W-D) code. The solutions suggest that the mass ratio of the binary system is $q = 2.70$ and the less massive component is $422K$ hotter than the more massive one. We conclude that \astrobj{GSC 03122-02426} is a W-subtype shallow contact (with a contact degree of $f = 15.3\,\%$) binary system. It may be a newly formed contact binary system which is just under geometrical contact and will evolve to be a thermal contact binary system. The …
New BVR light curves of the eclipsing binary system NSV 5904 have been constructed based on CCD observations obtained using 1.88-m telescope of Kottamia observatory during the phase of telescope testing and adjusting its optical quality on May, 2009. New times of minima and epoch have been determined from these light curves. Using the Binary Maker 3.0 (BM3) package, a preliminary determination of the photometric orbital and physical parameters of NSV 5904 are given.
A photometric solution of an A-type W UMa binary, GSC 0763-0572 is examined with a revised orbital period. The overcontact degree is found to be $f$ = 40.66%, with a low mass ratio of $q$ = 0.2554. The result demonstrates an unambiguous increase in the orbital period with a relative period change of $ΔP\slash P = +5.69\times10^{-7} $d yr$^{-1}$. This indicates that GSC 0763-0572 is undergoing a process of mass transfer from the secondary component to the primary one with a rate of relative mass change of $Δ$$m_1$$\slash$$m$ $=+5.18\times10^{-8}$ yr$^{-1}$, for a conservative model of mass tran…
The first multi-colour light curve models and period studies for the totally eclipsing W UMa stars TYC 3700-1384-1, V1511 Her and V1179 Her are presented. All three stars are A-subtype W UMa stars of spectral type F. The light curve solutions show that TYC 3700-1384-1 has a moderately low mass ratio of q = 0.182 +/- 0.001 and a degree of overcontact of f = 49%. For V1179 Her a mass ratio q = 0.153 +/- 0.001 and a degree of overcontact of f = 48% is derived. The solution for V1511 Her is inconclusive, however the mass ratio is expected to be between 0.13 < q < 0.15. The evolutionary status is c…
II UMa is a late F-type (F5) contact binary with a close-in tertiary and a distant visual companion. According to the four-color ($B$ $V$ $R_c$ $I_c$) light curves' solutions of II UMa, it is a high fill-out (f=$86.6\,\%$) and low mass ratio ($q = 0.172$) contact binary system, which indicate that it is at the late evolutionary stage of late-type tidal-locked binary stars. The mass of the primary star and secondary one are calculated to be $M_1 = 1.99M_\odot$, $M_2 = 0.34M_\odot$. The primary star has evolved from ZAMS, but it is still before TAMS, and the secondary star is even more evolved. …
The multicolour photometric observations of the neglected eclipsing binary FT Ursae Majoris (FT UMa) were obtained in 2010. The 2003 version of Wilson-Devinney code was used to analyze the light curves in $B$, $V$, and $R$ bands simultaneously. Based on the spectroscopic mass ratio $q=0.984$ published by Pribulla et al., it is found that FT UMa is an evolved contact binary with a contact degree of 15.3%. The low amplitude of light variations, $\sim 0.15$ mag, arises mainly from a moderately low inclination angle of $i=62.^{\circ}80$ and almost identical components in size rather than the light…
We present CCD photometric observations of the W UMa type contact binary EK Comae Berenices using the 2 metre telescope of $IUCAA$ Girawali Observatory, India. The star was classified as a W UMa type binary of subtype-W by \citet{sam1996}. The new V band photometric observations of the star reveal that shape of the light curve has changed significantly from the one observed by \citet{sam1996}. A detailed analysis of the light curve obtained from the high-precision CCD photometric observations of the star indicates that EK Comae Berenices is not a W-type but an A-type totally eclipsing W UMa co…
We present the photometric analysis of six short-period systems (EI Oct, V336 TrA, NX Boo, V356 Boo, PS Boo, and V2282 Cyg). This is the first photometric analysis of these systems except for V336 TrA. Observations were conducted for 27 nights at three observatories in the northern and southern hemispheres. We calculated a new ephemeris for each of the systems using our minimum times and additional literature. The Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach was used to determine the eclipse timing variation trends of the systems. We found a likely orbital growth for V336 TrA and PS Boo; four othe…
We present photometric analysis of the two W UMa type binaries identified in the field of distant open star cluster NGC6866. Although these systems, namely ID487 and ID494, were reported in the Joshi et al. (2012), but a detailed study of these stars has not been carried out earlier. The orbital periods of these stars are found to be 0.415110+/-0.000001 day and 0.366709+/-0.000004 day, respectively. Based on the photometric and infrared colours, we find their respective spectral types as K0 and K3. The photometric light variations of both the stars show O'Connell effect which could be explaine…
PY Per has been known as a Z Cam star. Using VSOLJ, VSNET, AAVSO, ASAS-SN and ZTF observations, I found that this object experienced faint states and classified it to be a Z Cam + VY Scl star. Furthermore, the object changed the outburst behavior since 2020 and it has been showing regularly recurring long, bright outbursts with cycles of 110-160 d and short, faint outbursts between them. The 2021 December--2022 January outburst particularly resembled a superoutburst with a gradually fading plateau phase having a duration more than 25 d and two rebrightenings in the fading part. This object has…
Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution (TGAS) parallax data are used to determine absolute magnitudes $M_V$ for 318 W~UMa-type (EW) contact binary stars. A very steep (slope $\simeq -9$), single-parameter ($\log{P}$), linear calibration can be used to predict $M_V$ to about 0.1 -- 0.3 mag over the whole range of accessible orbital period, $0.22\!<\!P\!<\!0.88$ days. A similar calibration for the most common systems with $0.275\!<\!P\!<\!0.575$ days predicts $M_V$ values to about 0.06 -- 0.16 mag. For orbital period values both shorter and longer than the central range, the period dependence is respec…
BZ UMa is a cataclysmic variable star whose specific classification has eluded researchers since its discovery in 1968. It has outburst and spectral properties consistent with both U Gem class dwarf novae and intermediate polars. We present new photometric and polarimetric measurements of recent outbursts, including the first detected superoutburst of the system. Statistical analysis of these and archival data from outbursts over the past 40 years present a case for BZ UMa as a non-magnetic, U Gem class, SU-UMa subclass dwarf novae.
We performed a detailed analysis of extensive photometric observations of a sample of most active dwarf novae, that is SU UMa stars which are characterised by supercycle lengths shorter than 120 days. We found the observational evidence that supercycle lengths for these objects have been constantly increasing over the past decades, which indicates that their mean mass transfer rates have been decreasing during that time. This seems to be a common feature for this type of stars. We present numerical results in each case and estimate time scales of future development of these systems. This study…
When observing the transiting extrasolar planets, we discovered a new W UMa type binary GSC 03553-00845. Following observation was carried out using the 1m telescope at Weihai Observatory of Shandong University. Complete BVR light curves were determined. Using the W-D program, we analyzed the light curves. Photometric solution reveals that GSC 03553-00845 is a W-subtype W UMa type binary with a mass ratio of q=2.904, it is an overcontact binary system by a contact degree of f=29.5% with a small temperature difference between the components (ΔT=206 K indicating a good thermal contact between th…
The phenomenological parameters of eclipsing binary stars, which are the prototypes of the EA, EB and EW systems are determined using the expert complex of computer programs, which realizes the NAV ("New Algol Variable") algorithm (Andronov 2010, 2012) and its possible modifications are discussed, as well as constrains for estimates of some physical parameters of the systems in a case of photometric observations only, such as the degree of eclipse, ratio of the mean surface brightnesses of the components. The half-duration of the eclipse is 0.0617(7), 0.1092(18) and 0.1015(7) for Algol, $β$ Ly…

56 UMa is a wide binary system that contains a chemically peculiar red giant and a faint companion. Due to its surface chemical abundances, the red giant was classified as a barium (Ba) star. This implies that the companion has to be a white dwarf, since Ba stars form when mass is transferred to them from an s-process rich Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) star. However, in the case of 56 UMa, the companion might be too massive to be the progeny of an AGB star that efficiently produced s-process elements such as barium. In this Letter, we revisit the orbital parameters of the system and perform a …
We investigated the superhump evolution, analysing optical photometric observations of the 2000 February-March, the 2002 October-November, and the 2006 September superoutbursts of SW UMa. The superhumps evolved in the same way after their appearance during the 2000 and the 2002 superoutbursts, and probably during the 2006 one. This indicates that the superhump evolution may be governed by the invariable binary parameters. We detected a periodicity in light curve after the end of the 2000 superoutburst without phase shift, which seems to be the remains of the superhumps. We found QPOs at the en…
We present a CCD photometric study of the star with ASAS ID 134738 + 0410.1 using V band observations obtained from the $IUCAA$ Girawali Observatory (IGO) 2-metre telescope, India. The star was selected from the $δ$ Scuti database of All Sky Automated Survey (ASAS) (Pojmanski 2002). Our analysis reveals that the star is not a $δ$ Scuti variable but is in fact a W UMa type contact binary with an orbital period of 0.2853067 day. Two new times of primary and secondary minima were determined from the observed data. A preliminary solution obtained using the Wilson-Devinney light curve modelling tec…
We present CCD photometric observations of an eclipsing binary in the direction of the open cluster Praesepe using the 2 m telescope of IUCAA Girawali Observatory, India. Though the system was classified as an eclipsing binary by Pepper et al.(2008),detail investigations were lacking. The photometric solutions using the Wilson-Devinney code suggest that it is a W-type W UMa system and interestingly, the system parameters were similar to another contact binary system SW Lac.
We report the detection of a faint stellar companion to the famous nearby A5V star Alcor (80 UMa). The companion has M-band ($λ$ = 4.8 $μ$m) magnitude 8.8 and projected separation 1".11 (28 AU) from Alcor. The companion is most likely a low-mass ($\sim$0.3 \msun) active star which is responsible for Alcor's X-ray emission detected by ROSAT (L$_{\rm X}$ $\simeq$ 10$^{28.3}$ erg/s). Alcor is a nuclear member of the Ursa Major star cluster (UMa; d $\simeq$ 25 pc, age $\simeq$ 0.5 Gyr), and has been occasionally mentioned as a possible distant (709") companion of the stellar quadruple Mizar ($ζ$ U…
The recently discovered eclipsing binary system TYC 2675-663-1 is a X-ray source, and shows properties in the optical that are similar to the W UMa systems, but are somewhat unusual compared to what is seen in other contact binary systems. The goal of this work is to characterize its properties and investigate its nature by means of detailed photometric and spectroscopic observations. We have performed extensive V-band photometric measurements with the INTEGRAL satellite along with ground-based multi-band photometric observations, as well as high-resolution spectroscopic monitoring from which …

LUX, Observatoire de Paris, CNRS, PSL(巴黎天文台,法国国家科学研究中心,巴黎文理研究大学);Astronomy Department of the Raderon AI Lab.(拉德罗恩人工智能实验室天文学系);Yazd Branch of the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents (SAMPAD)(伊朗特殊天赋人才开发组织亚兹德分校);Yazd Desert Night Sky Astronomy Institute(亚兹德沙漠夜空天文研究所)
We present photometric observations in Sloan filters g', i' of the eclipsing W UMa stars USNO-A2.0 1350-17365531, V471 Cas, V479 Lac and V560 Lac. The sinusoidal-like O-C diagram of V471 Cas shows presence of third body with mass of 0.12 Msun (red dwarf) at distance 897 Rsun. The O-C diagram of V479 Lac reveals period decreasing. The results of the light curve solutions are: (i) The targets are overcontact binaries with small fill-out factors; (ii) Their components are F-K stars, comparable in size, whose temperature differences are below 80 K; (iii) All targets undergo partial eclipses and to…
Photometric observations of the W UMa binary NSVS 2569022 are presented. The light curve solution reveals that both components are of F spectral type (temperatures $T_1$=$T_2$=6100 K). NSVS 254037 undergoes total eclipse of W subtype and the mass ratio is well-determined. Its exclusive small value of only 0.077 implies that the target probably goes to instability and possible merger. This value ranks NSVS 2569022 in sixth place among the binaries with smallest mass ratio. On the base of empirical relation "period -- total mass" for low mass-ratio binaries we estimated the global parameters of …
We present a B, V color-magnitude diagram (CMD) of the Milky Way dwarf satellite Ursa Major II (UMa II), spanning the magnitude range from V ~ 15 to V ~ 23.5 mag and extending over a 18 {\times} 18 arcmin2 area centered on the galaxy. Our photometry goes down to about 2 magnitudes below the galaxy's main sequence turn-off, that we detected at V ~ 21.5 mag. We have discovered a bona-fide RR Lyrae variable star in UMa II, which we use to estimate a conservative dereddened distance modulus for the galaxy of (m-M)0 = 17.70{\pm}0.04{\pm}0.12 mag, where the first error accounts for the uncertainties…
In this study, all unpublished time series photometric data of BM UMa ($q \sim$ 2.0, P = 0.2712\,d) from available archives were re-investigated together with new data taken from the TNT-2.4m of the Thai National Observatory (TNO). Based on period analysis, there is a short-term variation superimposed on the long-term period decrease. The trend of period change can be fitted with a downward parabolic curve indicating a period decrease at a rate of $\mathrm{d}P/\mathrm{d}t = -3.36(\pm 0.02)\times10^{-8}$ d $\textrm{yr}^{-1}$. This long-term period decrease can be explained by mass transfer from…
We report on observations of the eclipsing binary 2MASS 19090585+4911585 with the 25 cm auxiliary telescope of the University Observatory Jena. We show that a nearby brighter star (2MASS 19090783+4912085) was previously misclassified as the eclipsing binary and find 2MASS 19090585+4911585 to be the true source of variation. We present photometric analysis of VRI light curves. The system is an overcontact binary of W UMa type with an orbital period of (0.288374 +/- 0.000010) d.
Two sets of photometric observations of the system AH Tauri have been analyzed using the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code. The results show that AH Tauri may classified as A-type of W-UMa eclipsing binary. The mass ratio of q = 0.81, an over-contact degree of f = 0.095, and a slightly temperature difference between the two components have been obtained. The asymmetry of its light curve explained by the presence of a dark spot on the massive component. The physical, geometrical, and absolute parameters have been derived and compared with previous work.
Time series photometry of 20 Cataclysmic Variables detected by the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey is presented. 14 of these systems have not been observed previously and only two have been examined in-depth. From the observations we determined 12 new orbital periods and independently found a further two. Eight of the CVs are eclipsing systems, five of which have eclipse depths of more than 0.9 mag. Included in the sample are six SU UMa systems (three of which show superhumps in our photometry), a polar (SSS1944-42) and one system (CSS1417-18) that displays an abnormally fast decline from …
We aim to study the temporal and spectral behaviour of \vum from the optical to the X-ray regimes. We used archival \xmmn and \tes observations obtained in 2017 and 2019 to perform a spectral and timing analysis of the highly variable polar. The light curves of both satellites, TESS and XMM-Newton, reveal a double-humped pattern modulated with the periodicity of $91.058467 \pm 0.00001$ minutes. V496 UMa displays a two-pole accretion geometry in the high accretion state. X-ray spectra from both regions are composed of thermal plasma radiation and soft blackbody components with almost identical …
We present results of new photometric observations of the contact binary system \astrobj{HI Pup} as well as the radial velocity curve of the system. Time series multicolour photometry was obtained at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) using the 1-m Cassegrain Telescope. We applied a simultaneous solution to the $BVRI$ light and radial velocity curves in order to determine the physical parameters of the system. From an analysis of the new multicolour data, the physical parameters were found to be $M_1=1.22M_{\odot}$, $M_2=0.23M_{\odot}$, $R_1=1.44R_{\odot}$, $R_2=0.67R_{\odot}$, …
The paper presents combined spectroscopic and photometric orbital solutions for ten close binary systems: CN And, V776 Cas, FU Dra, UV Lyn, BB Peg, V592 Per, OU Ser, EQ Tau, HN UMa and HT Vir. The photometric data consist of new multicolor light curves, while the spectroscopy has been recently obtained within the radial velocity program at the David Dunlap Observatory (DDO). Absolute parameters of the components for these binary systems are derived. Our results confirm that CN And is not a contact system. Its configuration is semi-detached with the secondary component filling its Roche lobe. T…
In this paper, the first complete photometric light curves in the B, V, and R passbands for an eclipsing binary LO Com are presented, and the photometric solution for the LO Com is derived by analyzing these light curves by using the Wilson and Devinney code. From the photometric solution, it is found that the LO Com is a W-type W UMa binary with a mass ratio of q={m}2/{m}1=2.478 and a contact degree of f=(3.2+/- 0.25) % . By combining the two new minimum times with those published earlier in the literature, we have found that the (O - C) curve shows a downward parabolic variation correspondin…
The multi-color photometric light curves for a contact binary AV Puppis (AV Pup) in $VR_cI_c$ bandpasses are presented, and they are analyzed by using of the 2013 version of the Wilson-Devinney (W-D) code. The solutions suggest that AV Pup is a peculiar A-subtype W UMa contact binary with a high mass ratio ($q=m_2/m_1= 0.896$) and a fill-out factor ($f=10\%$). Combining with our newly determined times of minimum with those collected from literatures, the orbital period changes of this system are investigated. The $O-C$ analysis shows that the orbital period of AV Pup is increasing at a rate of…
We performed new photometric observations for two contact binaries (i.e., CRTS J025408.1+265957 and CRTS J012111.1+272933), which were observed by the 1.0-m telescope at Xingjiang Astronomical Observatory. From our light curves and several survey data, we derived several sets of photometric solutions. We found that CRTS J025408.1+265957 and CRTS J012111.1+272933 were Aand W-type W UMa, respectively. The results imply that the spot migrates or disappears in two contact binaries, which were identified by chromospheric activity emissions (e.g. Hα emission) from LAMOST spectra. From the O-C curves…
High resolution spectroscopic observations of AW UMa, obtained on three consecutive nights with the median time resolution of 2.1 minutes, have been analyzed using the Broadening Functions method in the spectral window Doppler images of the system reveal the presence of vigorous mass motions within the binary system; their presence puts into question the solid-body rotation assumption of the contact binary model. AW UMa appears to be a very tight, semi-detached binary; the mass transfer takes place from the more massive to the less massive component. The primary, a fast-rotating star with V si…
We present differential $UBV$ photoelectric photometry obtained by Williamon of the short-period A-type W~UMa binary MW~Pav. With the Wilson-Devinney analysis program we obtained a simultaneous solution of these observations with the $UBV$ photometry of Lapasset (1977,1980), the $V$ measurements by the $ASAS$ program, and the double-lined radial velocity measurements of Rucinski & Duerbeck (2006). Our solution indicates that MW~Pav is in an overcontact state, where both components exceed their critical Roche lobes. We derive masses of $M_1 = 1.514 \pm 0.063 \, M_\sun$ and $M_2 = 0.327 \pm 0.01…
