In 2006 Qian [J. Qian, Degree complete graphs; Discrete Mathematics 306 (2006), 533--537] introduced the concept of degree complete graphs for labeled graphs. He also gave a characterization of these graphs in terms of two forbidden subgraphs. Furthermore, he mentioned that the property of being degree complete depends on the labeling of the graph. Related to this he stated the problem to find a characterization of those (unlabeled) graphs for which every labeled version is not degree complete. We say that a (unlabeled) graph has a degree complete labeling, if there is a labeled version of the graph that is degree complete. In this paper we give three characterizations of graphs with degree complete labeling. These characterizations give us polynomial-time procedures to recognize these graphs and find a degree complete labeling, if it exists.
A characterization of L(2, 1)-labeling number for trees with maximum degree 3
图的L(2,1)-标号是指对图G的顶点分配非负整数,使得邻顶点得到至少相差2的数,而距离为2的顶点被分配不同的数。L(2,1)-标号数就是所有这样的标号分配中最小的标号跨度值. Griggs和Yeh [Labelling graphs with a condition at distance 2,SIAM J. Discrete Math.5(1992),586-595]证明了树的L(2,1)-标号数不是\D + 1就是\D + 2。本文给出了最大度为3的树的L(2,1)-标号数的一个完全刻画.
This paper deals with the problem of finding totally antimagic total labelings of complete bipartite graphs. We prove that complete bipartite graphs are totally antimagic total graphs. We also show that the join of complete bipartite graphs with one vertex is a totally antimagic total graph
Neighborhood-prime labeling is a variation of prime labeling. A labeling $f:V(G) \to [|V(G)|]$ is a neighborhood-prime labeling if for each vertex $v\in V(G)$ with degree greater than $1$, the greatest common divisor of the set of labels in the neighborhood of $v$ is $1$. In this paper, we introduce techniques for finding neighborhood-prime labelings based on the Hamiltonicity of the graph, by using conditions on possible degrees of vertices, and by examining a neighborhood graph. In particular, classes of graphs shown to be neighborhood-prime include all generalized Petersen graphs, grid grap…
We extend a result of Griggs and Yeh about the maximum possible value of the L(2,1)-labeling number of a graph in terms of its maximum degree to oriented graphs. We consider the problem both in the usual definition of the oriented L(2,1)-labeling number and in some variants we introduce.
A neighborhood-prime labeling of a graph is a variation of a prime labeling in which the vertices are assigned labels from $1$ to $|V(G)|$ such that the $\gcd$ of the labels in the neighborhood of each non-degree $1$ vertex is equal to $1$. In this paper, we examine neighborhood-prime labelings of several classes of graphs such as polygonal snakes and books, with a focus on trees including caterpillars, spiders, and firecrackers.
A coprime labeling of a simple graph of order $n$ is a labeling in which adjacent vertices are given relatively prime labels, and a graph is prime if the labels used can be taken to be the first $n$ positive integers. In this paper, we consider when ladder graphs are prime and when the corresponding labeling may be done in a cyclic manner around the vertices of the ladder. Furthermore, we discuss coprime labelings for complete bipartite graphs.
On the Edge-balanced Index Sets of Complete Bipartite Graphs
A coprime labeling of a graph $G$ is a labeling of the vertices of $G$ with distinct integers from $1$ to $k$ such that adjacent vertices have coprime labels. The minimum coprime number of $G$ is the least $k$ for which such a labeling exists. In this paper, we determine the minimum coprime number for several well-studied classes of graphs, including the coronas of complete graphs with empty graphs and the joins of two paths. In particular, we resolve a conjecture of Seoud, El Sonbaty, and Mahran and two conjectures of Asplund and Fox. We also provide an asymptotic for the minimum coprime numb…
Given a digraph $D$ with $m $ arcs, a bijection $τ: A(D)\rightarrow \{1, 2, \ldots, m\}$ is an antimagic labeling of $D$ if no two vertices in $D$ have the same vertex-sum, where the vertex-sum of a vertex $u $ in $D$ under $τ$ is the sum of labels of all arcs entering $u$ minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving $u$. We say $(D, τ)$ is an antimagic orientation of a graph $G$ if $D$ is an orientation of $G$ and $τ$ is an antimagic labeling of $D$. Motivated by the conjecture of Hartsfield and Ringel from 1990 on antimagic labelings of graphs, Hefetz, Mütze, and Schwartz in 2010 initiated th…
For a graph $G$, a $k$-radio labeling of $G$ is the assignment of positive integers to the vertices of $G$ such that the closer two vertices are on the graph, the greater the difference in labels is required to be. Specifically, $\vert f(u)-f(v)\vert\geq k + 1 - d(u,v)$ where $f(u)$ is the label on a vertex $u$ in $G$. Here, we consider the case when $G$ is the Cartesian products of complete graphs. Specifically we wish to find optimal labelings that use consecutive integers and determine when this is possible. We build off of a paper by Amanda Niedzialomski and construct a framework for disco…
In this paper we study variations of an old result by Müller, Reiterman, and the last author stating that a countable graph has a subgraph with infinite degrees if and only if in any labeling of the vertices (or edges) of this graph by positive integers we can always find an infinite increasing path. We study corresponding questions for hypergraphs and directed graphs. For example we show that the condition that a hypergraph contains a subhypergraph with infinite degrees is equivalent to the condition that any vertex labeling contains an infinite increasing loose path. We also find an equivale…
A tree $T$ on $2^n$ vertices is called set-sequential if the elements in $V(T)\cup E(T)$ can be labeled with distinct nonzero $(n+1)$-dimensional $01$-vectors such that the vector labeling each edge is the component-wise sum modulo $2$ of the labels of the endpoints. It has been conjectured that all trees on $2^n$ vertices with only odd degree are set-sequential (the "Odd Tree Conjecture"), and in this paper, we present progress toward that conjecture. We show that certain kinds of caterpillars (with restrictions on the degrees of the vertices, but no restrictions on the diameter) are set-sequ…
The concept of antimagic labelings of a graph is to produce distinct vertex sums by labeling edges through consecutive numbers starting from one. A long-standing conjecture is that every connected graph, except a single edge, is antimagic. Some graphs are known to be antimagic, but little has been known about sparse graphs, not even trees. This paper studies a weak version called $k$-shifted-antimagic labelings which allow the consecutive numbers starting from $k+1$, instead of starting from 1, where $k$ can be any integer. This paper establishes connections among various concepts proposed in …
Consider a simple graph $G$. We call a labeling $w:E(G)\cup V(G)\rightarrow \{1, 2, \dots, s\}$ (\textit{total vertex}) \textit{product-irregular}, if all product degrees $pd_G(v)$ induced by this labeling are distinct, where $pd_G(v)=w(v)\times\prod_{e\ni v}w(e)$. The strength of $w$ is $s$, the maximum number used to label the members of $E(G)\cup V(G)$. The minimum value of $s$ that allows some irregular labeling is called \textit{the total vertex product irregularity strength} and denoted $tvps(G)$. We provide some general bounds, as well as exact values for chosen families of graphs. Keyw…
A graph $G=(V,E)$ is strongly antimagic, if there is a bijective mapping $f: E \to \{1,2,\ldots,|E|\}$ such that for any two vertices $u\neq v$, not only $\sum_{e \in E(u)}f(e) \ne \sum_{e\in E(v)}f(e)$ and also $\sum_{e \in E(u)}f(e) < \sum_{e\in E(v)}f(e)$ whenever $°(u)< °(v) $, where $E(u)$ is the set of edges incident to $u$. In this paper, we prove that double spiders, the trees contains exactly two vertices of degree at least 3, are strongly antimagic.
An antimagic labeling of a directed graph $D$ with $n$ vertices and $m$ arcs is a bijection from the set of arcs of $D$ to the integers $\{1, \cdots, m\}$ such that all $n$ oriented vertex sums are pairwise distinct, where an oriented vertex sum is the sum of labels of all arcs entering that vertex minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving it. A graph $G$ has an antimagic orientation if it has an orientation which admits an antimagic labeling. Hefetz, M{ü}tze, and Schwartz conjectured that every connected graph admits an antimagic orientation. In this paper, we show that every bipartite grap…
An edge labeling of a connected graph $G = (V, E)$ is said to be local antimagic if it is a bijection $f:E \to\{1,\ldots ,|E|\}$ such that for any pair of adjacent vertices $x$ and $y$, $f^+(x)\not= f^+(y)$, where the induced vertex label $f^+(x)= \sum f(e)$, with $e$ ranging over all the edges incident to $x$. The local antimagic chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $χ_{la}(G)$, is the minimum number of distinct induced vertex labels over all local antimagic labelings of $G$. In this paper, we characterize $s$-bridge graphs with local antimagic chromatic number 2.
In this paper, we study the $L(2, 1)$-Labeling of the Mycielski and the iterated Mycielski of graphs in general. For a graph $G$ and all $t\geq 1$, we give sharp bounds for $λ(M^t(G))$ the $L(2, 1)$-labeling number of the $t$-th iterated Mycielski in terms of the number of iterations $t$, the order $n$, the maximum degree $\bigtriangleup$, and $λ(G)$ the $L(2, 1)$-labeling number of $G$. For $t=1$, we present necessary and sufficient conditions between the $4$-star matching number of the complement graph and $λ(M(G))$ the $L(2, 1)$-labeling number of the Mycielski of a graph, with some applica…
Let $G = (V,E)$ be a connected simple graph of order $p$ and size $q$. A graph $G$ is called local antimagic (total) if $G$ admits a local antimagic (total) labeling. A bijection $g : E \to \{1,2,\ldots,q\}$ is called a local antimagic labeling of $G$ if for any two adjacent vertices $u$ and $v$, we have $g^+(u) \ne g^+(v)$, where $g^+(u) = \sum_{e\in E(u)} g(e)$, and $E(u)$ is the set of edges incident to $u$. Similarly, a bijection $f:V(G)\cup E(G)\to \{1,2,\ldots,p+q\}$ is called a local antimagic total labeling of $G$ if for any two adjacent vertices $u$ and $v$, we have $w_f(u)\ne w_f(v)$…
Hovey introduced $A$-cordial labelings as a generalization of cordial and harmonious labelings \cite{Hovey}. If $A$ is an Abelian group, then a labeling $f \colon V (G) \rightarrow A$ of the vertices of some graph $G$ induces an edge labeling on $G$, the edge $uv$ receives the label $f (u) + f (v)$. A graph $G$ is $A$-cordial if there is a vertex-labeling such that (1) the vertex label classes differ in size by at most one and (2) the induced edge label classes differ in size by at most one. The problem of $A$-cordial labelings of graphs can be naturally extended for hypergraphs. It was shown …
Approximate proof labeling schemes were introduced by \\Censor-Hillel, Paz and Perry \cite{CPP}. Roughly speaking, a graph property~$\cP$ can be verified by an approximate proof labeling scheme in constant-time if the vertices of a graph having the property can be convinced, in a short period of time not depending on the size of the graph, that they are having the property $\cP$ or at least they are not far from being having the property $\cP$. The main result of this paper is that bounded-degree planar graphs (and also outer-planar graphs, bounded genus graphs, knotlessly embeddable graphs et…
If $\ell: V(G)\rightarrow {\mathbb N}$ is a vertex labeling of a graph $G = (V(G), E(G))$, then the $d$-lucky sum of a vertex $u\in V(G)$ is $d_\ell(u) = d_G(u) + \sum_{v\in N(u)}\ell(v)$. The labeling $\ell$ is a $d$-lucky labeling if $d_\ell(u)\neq d_\ell(v)$ for every $uv\in E(G)$. The $d$-lucky number $η_{dl}(G)$ of $G$ is the least positive integer $k$ such that $G$ has a $d$-lucky labeling $V(G)\rightarrow [k]$. A general lower bound on the $d$-lucky number of a graph in terms of its clique number and related degree invariants is proved. The bound is sharp as demonstrated with an infinit…
For all positive even integers $n$, graphs of order $n$ with degree sequence \begin{equation*} S_{n}:1,2,\dots,n/2,n/2,n/2+1,n/2+2,\dots,n-1 \end{equation*} naturally arose in the study of a labeling problem in \cite{IMO}. This fact motivated the authors of the aforementioned paper to study these sequences and as a result of this study they proved that there is a unique graph of order $n$ realizing $S_{n}$ for every even integer $n$. The main goal of this paper is to generalize this result.
In this paper, we study the Hankel edge ideals of graphs. We determine the minimal prime ideals of the Hankel edge ideal of labeled Hamiltonian and semi-Hamiltonian graphs, and we investigate radicality, being a complete intersection, almost complete intersection and set theoretic complete intersection for such graphs. We also consider the Hankel edge ideal of trees with a natural labeling, called rooted labeling. We characterize such trees whose Hankel edge ideal is a complete intersection, and moreover, we determine those whose initial ideal with respect to the reverse lexicographic order sa…
The distinguishing index of a simple graph $G$, denoted by $D'(G)$, is the least number of labels in an edge labeling of $G$ not preserved by any non-trivial automorphism. It was conjectured by Pilśniak (2015) that for any 2-connected graph $D'(G) \leq \lceil \sqrt{Δ(G)}\rceil +1$. We prove a more general result for the distinguishing index of graphs with minimum degree at least two from which the conjecture follows. Also we present graphs $G$ for which $D'(G)\leq \lceil \sqrt{Δ}\rceil$.
