An experiment in which the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality is maximally violated is self-testing (i.e., it certifies in a device-independent way both the state and the measurements). We prove that an experiment maximally violating Gisin's elegant Bell inequality is not similarly self-testing. The reason can be traced back to the problem of distinguishing an operator from its complex conjugate. We provide a complete and explicit characterization of all scenarios in which the elegant Bell inequality is maximally violated. This enables us to see exactly how the problem plays out.
We prove that as conjectured by Ac\'ın et al. [Phys. Rev. A 93, 040102(R) (2016)], two bits of randomness can be certified in a device-independent way from one bit of entanglement using the maximal quantum violation of Gisin's elegant Bell inequality. This suggests a surprising connection between maximal entanglement, complete sets of mutually unbiased bases, and elements of symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measures, on one side, and the optimal way of certifying maximal randomness, on the other.
We present a set of Bell inequalities which are sufficient and necessary for separability of general pure multipartite quantum states in arbitrary dimensions. The relations between Bell inequalities and distillability are also studied. We show that any quantum states that violate one of these Bell inequalities are distillable.
It is briefly demonstrated that Gisin's so-called 'locality' assumption [arXiv:0901.4255] is in fact equivalent to the existence of a local deterministic model. Thus, despite Gisin's suggestions to the contrary, 'local realism' in the sense of Bell is built into his argument from the very beginning. His 'locality' assumption may more appropriately be labelled 'separability'. It is further noted that the increasingly popular term 'quantum nonlocality' is not only misleading, but tends to obscure the important distinction between no-signalling and separability. In particular, 'local non-realism'…
We present an explicit reexamination of Gisin's 1991 original proof concerning the violation of Bell's inequality for any pure entangled state of two-particle systems. Given the relevance of Gisin's work, our analysis is motivated by pedagogical reasons and allows the straightening of a few mathematical points in the original proof that in no way change the physical conclusions reached by Gisin.
High-dimensional quantum entanglement is drawing attention because it enables us to perform quantum information tasks that are robust against noises. To test the nonlocality of entangled qudits, the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu (CGLMP) inequality has been proposed and demonstrated using qudits based on orbital angular momentum, time-energy uncertainty, and frequency bins. Here, we report the generation and observation of time-bin entangled ququarts. We implemented a measurement for the CGLMP inequality test using cascaded delay Mach-Zehnder interferometers fabricated by using planar lig…
A bipartite Bell inequality is derived which is maximally violated on the two-qubit state space if measurements describable by positive operator valued measure (POVM) elements are allowed rather than restricting the possible measurements to projective ones. In particular, the presented Bell inequality requires POVMs in order to be maximally violated by a maximally entangled two-qubit state. This answers a question raised by N. Gisin.
It is generally assumed that {\em local realism} represented by a noncontextual and local hidden-variables model in $d=4$ such as the one used by Bell always gives rise to CHSH inequality $|\langle B\rangle|\leq 2$. On the other hand, the contraposition of Gisin's theorem states that the inequality $|\langle B\rangle|\leq 2$ for arbitrary parameters implies (pure) separable quantum states. The fact that local realism can describe only pure separable quantum states is naturally established in hidden-variables models, and it is quantified by $G({\bf a},{\bf b})= 4[\langle ψ|P({\bf a})\otimes P({…
Quadratic Bell inequalities as tests for multipartite entanglement
A { \bf 246},1(1998)]和Seevinck和Svetlichny [quant-ph/0201046]。
Generalizations of the classic Bell inequality to higher dimensional quantum systems known as qudits are reputed to exhibit a higher degree of robustness to noise, but such claims are based on one particular noise model. We analyze the violation of the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu inequality subject to more realistic noise sources and their scaling with dimension. This analysis is inspired by potential Bell inequality experiments with superconducting resonator-based qudits. We find that the robustness of the inequality to noise generally decreases with increasing qudit dimension.
Network Bell experiments give rise to a form of quantum nonlocality that conceptually goes beyond Bell's theorem. We investigate here the simplest network, known as the bilocality scenario. We depart from the typical use of the Bell State Measurement in the network central node and instead introduce a family of symmetric iso-entangled measurement bases that generalise the so-called Elegant Joint Measurement. This leads us to report noise-tolerant quantum correlations that elude bilocal variable models. Inspired by these quantum correlations, we introduce network Bell inequalities for the biloc…
Comment on ``Hidden quantum nonlocality revealed by local filters''
Gisin,Phys. Lett.
We show that a single Bell's inequality with two dichotomic observables for each observer, which is originated from Hardy's nonlocality proof without inequalities, is violated by all entangled pure states of a given number of particles, each of which may have a different number of energy levels. Thus Gisin's theorem is proved in its most general form from which it follows that for pure states Bell's nonlocality and quantum entanglement are equivalent.
Finding all Bell inequalities for a given number of parties, measurement settings, and measurement outcomes is in general a computationally hard task. We show that all Bell inequalities which are symmetric under the exchange of parties can be found by examining a symmetrized polytope which is simpler than the full Bell polytope. As an illustration of our method, we generate 238885 new Bell inequalities and 1085 new Svetlichny inequalities. We find, in particular, facet inequalities for Bell experiments involving two parties and two measurement settings that are not of the Collins-Gisin-Linden-…
Bell's Theorem witnesses that the predictions of quantum theory cannot be reproduced by theories of local hidden variables in which observers can choose their measurements independently of the source. Working out an idea of Branciard, Rosset, Gisin and Pironio, we consider scenarios which feature several sources, but no choice of measurement for the observers. Every Bell scenario can be mapped into such a \emph{correlation scenario}, and Bell's Theorem then discards those local hidden variable theories in which the sources are independent. However, most correlation scenarios do not arise from …
Lett. A 162,15(1992)]。 65,1838(1990)]。
We show that some two-party Bell inequalities with two-valued observables are stronger than the CHSH inequality for 3 \otimes 3 isotropic states in the sense that they are violated by some isotropic states in the 3 \otimes 3 system that do not violate the CHSH inequality. These Bell inequalities are obtained by applying triangular elimination to the list of known facet inequalities of the cut polytope on nine points. This gives a partial solution to an open problem posed by Collins and Gisin. The results of numerical optimization suggest that they are candidates for being stronger than the I_3…
We analyze the connection between Bell inequality violations and symmetric extendibility of quantum states. We prove that 2-qubit reduced states of multiqubit symmetric pure states do not violate the Bell Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality. We then prove the more general converse that any 2-qubit state that violates the CHSH inequality cannot have a symmetric extension. We extend our analysis to qudits and provide a test for symmetric extendibility of 2-qudit states. We show that if a 2-qudit Bell inequality is monogamous, then any 2-qudit state that violates this inequality does not…
We introduce a new method of investigating qutrit nonclassicality by translating qutrit operators to symmetric two-qubit operators. We show that this procedure partially resolves the discrepancy between maximal qutrit entanglement and maximal nonclassicality of qutrit correlations. Namely we express Bell operators corresponding to qutrit Bell inequalities in terms of symmetric two-qubit operators, and analyze the maximal quantum violation of a given Bell inequality from the qubit perspective. As an example we show that the two-qutrit CGLMP(Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu) Bell inequality c…
We use hyper-entanglement to experimentally realize deterministic entanglement swapping based on quantum Elegant Joint Measurements. These are joint projections of two qubits onto highly symmetric, iso-entangled, bases. We report measurement fidelities no smaller than $97.4\%$. We showcase the applications of these measurements by using the entanglement swapping procedure to demonstrate quantum correlations in the form of proof-of-principle violations of both bilocal Bell inequalities and more stringent correlation criteria corresponding to full network nonlocality. Our results are a foray int…
It is an established fact that entanglement is a resource. Sharing an entangled state leads to non-local correlations and to violations of Bell inequalities. Such non-local correlations illustrate the advantage of quantum resources over classical resources. Here, we study quantitatively Bell inequalities with $2\times n$ inputs. As found in [N. Gisin et al., Int. J. Q. Inf. 5, 525 (2007)] quantum mechanical correlations cannot reach the algebraic bound for such inequalities. In this paper, we uncover the heart of this effect which we call the {\it fraction of determinism}. We show that any qua…
Many of the standard Bell inequalities (e.g., CHSH) are not effective for detection of quantum correlations which allow for steering, because for a wide range of such correlations they are not violated. We present Bell-like inequalities which have lower bounds for non-steering correlations than for local causal models. The inequalities involve all possible measurement settings at each side. We arrive at interesting and elegant conditions for steerability of arbitrary two-qubit states.
Quantum networks, which can exceed the framework of standard bell theorem, flourish the investigation of quantum nonlocality further. Recently, a concept of full quantum network nonlocality (FNN) which is stronger than network nonlocality, has been defined and can be witnessed by Kerstjens-Gisin-Tavakoli (KGT) inequalities [Phys. Rev. Lett. 128 (2022)]. In this letter, we explored the recycling of FNN as quantum resources by analyzing the FNN sharing between different combinations of observers. The FNN sharing in extended bilocal scenario via weak measurements has been completely discussed. Ac…

We compare entanglement with quantum nonlocality employing a geometric structure of the state space of bipartite qudits. Central object is a regular simplex spanned by generalized Bell states. The Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu-Bell inequality is used to reveal states of this set that cannot be described by local-realistic theories. Optimal measurement settings necessary to ascertain nonlocality are determined by means of a recently proposed parameterization of the unitary group U(d) combined with robust numerical methods. The main results of this paper are descriptive geometric illustrat…
Non-locality without inequality is an elegant argument introduced by L. Hardy for two qubit systems, and later generalised to $n$ qubits, to establish contradiction of quantum theory with local realism. Interestingly, for $n=2$ this argument is actually a corollary of Bell-type inequalities, viz. the CH-Hardy inequality involving Bell correlations, but for $n$ greater than 2 it involves $n$-particle probabilities more general than Bell-correlations. In this paper, we first derive a chain of completely new local realistic inequalities involving joint probabilities for $n$ qubits, and then, asso…
Self-testing is a device-independent examination of quantum devices based on correlations of observed statistics. Motivated by elegant progresses on self-testing strategies for measurements [Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 250507 (2018)] and for states [New J. Phys. 20, 083041 (2018)], we develop a general self-testing procedure for multipartite generalized GHZ-state measurements. The key step is self-testing all measurement eigenstates for a general N-qubit multipartite GHZ-state measurement. Following our procedure, one only needs to perform local measurements on N-2 chosen parties of the N-partite ei…
