Inspired by a result of Manin, we study the relationship between certain period integrals and the trace of Frobenius of genus 3 generalized Legendre curves. We show that both of these properties can be computed in terms of "matching" classical and finite field hypergeometric functions, a phenomenon that has also been observed in elliptic curves and many higher dimensional varieties.
In this paper we show that a closed form formula for the generalized Clebsch-Gordan integral and the Fourier-Legendre expansion theory allow to evaluate hypergeometric series involving powers of the normalized central binomial coefficient ${\displaystyle \frac{1}{4^{n}}\dbinom{2n}{n}}$.
Motivated by our previous work on hypergeometric functions and the parbelos constant, we perform a deeper investigation on the interplay among generalized complete elliptic integrals, Fourier-Legendre (FL) series expansions, and ${}_p F_q$ series. We produce new hypergeometric transformations and closed-form evaluations for new series involving harmonic numbers, through the use of the integration method outlined as follows: Letting $K$ denote the complete elliptic integral of the first kind, for a suitable function $g$ we evaluate integrals such as $$ \int_{0}^{1} K\left( \sqrt{x} \right) g(x)…
In the late '60s, B. Dwork studied a Frobenius structure compatible with the classical hypergeometric differential equation with parameters $\left(\frac{1}{2},\frac{1}{2} ; 1 \right)$ by analyzing behavior of solutions of the differential equation under Frobenius transformation. Recently, P. Scholze conjectured the existence of $q$-de Rham cohomology groups for any $\mathbb{Z}$-scheme. In this paper, we give a Frobenius structure compatible with the $q$-hypergeometric differential equation with parameters $(q^{\frac12},q^{\frac12};q)$ by showing a $q$-analogue of some results of Dwork. This co…
We use the elliptic regulator to recover some identities between Mahler measures involving certain families of genus 2 curves that were conjectured by Boyd and proven by Bertin and Zudilin by differentiating the Mahler measures and using hypergeometric identities. Since our proofs involve the regulator, they yield light into the expected relation of each Mahler measure to special values of $L$-functions of certain elliptic curves.
We introduce a general strategy for proving quantitative and uniform bounds on the number of common points of height zero for a pair of inequivalent height functions on $\mathbb{P}^1(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}).$ We apply this strategy to prove a conjecture of Bogomolov, Fu, and Tschinkel asserting uniform bounds on the number of common torsion points of elliptic curves in the case of two Legendre curves over $\mathbb{C}$. As a consequence, we obtain two uniform bounds for a two-dimensional family of genus 2 curves: a uniform Manin-Mumford bound for the family over $\mathbb{C}$, and a uniform Bogom…
