We examine neutral-current quasi-elastic neutrino-nucleus reactions on $^{12}$C and $^{208}$Pb targets. We use the relativistic mean field theory approach to describe the nuclear dynamics. We compute the cross sections for the scattering of 150-MeV, 500-MeV and 1000-MeV neutrinos on a $^{12}$C target and study the effect of the strange-quark content of the nucleon which appears in these reactions via the isoscalar weak current. We compare our results with the data of the MiniBooNE experiment for mineral oil (CH$_2$). We also calculate the cross section for the quasi-elastic neutron knockout reaction of 20 to 60-MeV neutrinos on a $^{208}$Pb target which is relevant to plans to use lead as a target material in future supernova neutrino detectors.
The observed cross sections of quasi-elastic scattering of 6He, 7Be, and 8B nuclei by 12C nuclei are described within the framework of the diffraction nuclear model and the model of nucleus-nucleus scattering in the high-energy approximation with a double folding potential, for intermediate energies of the incident particles. The calculations make use of realistic distributions of nucleon densities and take account of the Coulomb interaction and inelastic scattering with excitation of low-lying collective states of the target.
The effects of relativistic kinematics are studied for nuclear collisions of equal mass nuclei. It is found that the relativistic and non-relativistic elastic scattering amplitudes are nearly indistinguishable, and, hence, the relativistic and non-relativistic differential cross sections become indistinguishable. These results are explained by analyzing the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with the first order optical potential that was employed in the calculation
We study theoretically how we can determine the neutron density distributions of unstable nuclei from proton elastic scattering. We apply the relativistic impulse model to study the sensitivities of the observables to the density distributionswhich are expressed in Woods-Saxon form. We find that the both radius and diffuseness of densities can be determined from restricted elastic scattering data in principle. We think this result is helpful to design future experiments.
Electron scattering will provide the most direct information about charge distribution in exotic nuclei. A technical proposal for an electron-heavy-ion collider has been incorporated in the GSI/Germany physics program (spokesperson: Haik Simon - GSI). The main purpose is to study the structure of nuclei far from the stability line. In this work I explore the possibilities to study charge distributions of nuclei far form the stability line with the proposed facility.
Magnetic form factors corresponding to elastic electron scattering from odd-A nuclei are presented. The calculations are carried out in plane-wave Born approximation. The one-body properties are obtained in a deformed self-consistent mean-field calculation based on a Skyrme HF+BCS method. Collective effects are also included in the cranking approximation. Results on several stable nuclei are compared with the available experimental information. It is shown that a deformed formalism improves the agreement with experiment in deformed nuclei, while reproducing equally well spherical nuclei by tak…
Elastic electron scattering from oriented odd-Aaxially deformed nuclei is studied in the plane-wave Born approximation. The nuclear structure is described within a microscopic selfconsistent Skyrme deformed Hartree-Fock approximation with pairing correlations. The interference form factors between monopole and quadrupole Coulomb terms that characterize the nuclear response with aligned nuclear targets are shown to increase or decrease the unpolarized cross-section, depending on the sign of the quadrupole deformation. This feature provides valuable information on the nuclear deformation that ca…
We calculate the differential cross sections for proton elastic scattering on the exotic halo nuclei $^6$He and $^8$He at energies around $\sim$0.7 GeV at the momentum transfers squared up to 0.30 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ and investigate the influence of the nucleon centre-of-mass correlations on the calculated cross sections. In particular, we show that the approximate account of the centre-of-mass correlations used previously considerably overestimates the cross sections at high values of the momentum transfer.
The influence of the Coulomb distortion for quasi-elastic (e,e') scattering on highly charged nuclei is investigated in distorted wave Born approximation for electrons. The Dirac equation is solved numerically in order to obtain exact electron continuum states in the electrostatic field generated by the charge distribution of an atomic nucleus. Different approximate models are used to describe the nucleon current in order to show that, at high electron energies and energy-momentum transfer, the influence of Coulomb distortions on (e,e') cross sections can be reliably described by the effective…
By focusing on the asymmetric shape of cross section, we analyze the pairing effect on the partial wave components of cross section for neutron elastic scattering off stable and unstable nuclei within the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) framework. Explicit expressions for Fano parameters $q_{lj}$ and $ε_{lj}$ have been derived and the pairing effects have been analyzed in term of these parameters, and the Fano effect was found on the neutron elastic scattering off the stable nucleus in terms of the pairing correlation. Fano effect was appeared as the asymmetric line-shape of the cross section ca…
Inclusive quasi-elastic electron scattering off nuclei is investigated at high momentum transfer (Q^2>1 (GeV/c)^2) and x>1 adopting a consistent treatment of nucleon-nucleon correlations in initial and final states. It is shown that in case of light as well as complex nuclei the inclusive cross section at 1.3<x<2 is dominated by the absorption of the virtual photon on a pair of correlated nucleons and by their elastic rescattering in the continuum, whereas at x>2 it is governed by the rescattering of the outgoing off-mass-shell nucleon in the complex optical potential generated by the ground s…
Based on the spectator expansion of the multiple scattering series we employ a chiral next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) nucleon-nucleon interaction on the same footing in the structure as well as in the reaction calculation to obtain an in leading-order consistent effective potential for nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering, which includes the spin of the struck target nucleon. As an example we present proton scattering off $^{12}$C.
There is a calculation of the differential cross sections of proton scattering on 13C and 15C nuclei at energy of 1 GeV with the shell model wave functions in the framework of the Glauber theory in the study. The single, double and triple collisions have been taken into account in the multiple scattering operator. The role of each term of the series and their interference in the differential cross section have been estimated. It is shown that for a description of the cross sections in a wide angle/momentum transfer range it is necessary to consider not only the first, but the higher scattering…
We theoretically investigate the elastic scattering of 50-MeV $Σ^-$ hyperons from $^{28}$Si and $^{208}$Pb in order to clarify the radial distribution of $Σ$-nucleus (optical) potentials. The angular distributions of differential cross sections are calculated using several potentials that can explain experimental data of the $Σ^-$ atomic X-ray and ($π^-$, $K^+$) reaction spectra simultaneously. The magnitude and oscillation pattern of the angular distributions are understood by the use of nearside/farside decompositions of their scattering amplitudes. It is shown that the resultant angular dis…
The elastic scattering of the halo nucleus $^6$He from heavy targets at incident energies near the Coulomb barrier displays a marked deviation from the standard Fresnel-type diffraction behavior. This deviation is due to the strong Coulomb dipole breakup coupling produced by the Coulomb field of the heavy target, a specific feature of the nuclear structure of $^6$He. We have performed Continuum Discretized Coupled Channels calculations for the elastic scattering of $^{6}$He and $^6$Li from $^{58}$Ni, $^{120}$Sn, $^{144}$Sm, $^{181}$Ta and $^{208}$Pb targets in order to determine the range of $…
Results for elastic electron scattering by nuclei, calculated with charge densities of Skyrme forces and covariant effective Lagrangians that accurately describe nuclear ground states, are compared against experiment in stable isotopes. Dirac partial-wave calculations are performed with an adapted version of the ELSEPA package. Motivated by the fact that studies of electron scattering off exotic nuclei are intended in future facilities in the commissioned GSI and RIKEN upgrades, we survey the theoretical predictions from neutron-deficient to neutron-rich isotopes in the tin and calcium isotopi…
A microscopic study of proton elastic scattering from unstable nuclei at intermediate energies using a relativistic formalism is presented. We have employed both the original relativistic impulse approximation (IA1) and the generalised impulse approximation (IA2) formalisms to calculate the relativistic optical potentials, with target densities derived from relativistic mean field (RMF) theory using the NL3 and FSUGold parameter sets. Comparisons between the optical potentials computed using both IA1 and IA2 formalisms, and the different RMF Lagrangians are presented for both stable and unstab…
The $^3$He and $^4$He longitudinal and transverse response functions are determined from an analysis of the world data on quasi-elastic inclusive electron scattering. The corresponding Euclidean response functions are derived and compared to those calculated with Green's function Monte Carlo methods, using realistic interactions and currents. Large contributions associated with two-body currents are found, particularly in the $^4$He transverse response, in agreement with data. The contributions of two-body charge and current operators in the $^3$He, $^4$He, and $^6$Li response functions are al…
We investigate the cross sections of the elastic electron or positron scattering from $^{208}$Pb, $^{12}$C, $^{12,16}$O and $^{28, 32}$S by the relativistic partial-wave expansion method using the static charge density distribution from the self-consistent relativistic mean field model and also calculate the charge form factor for $^{12, 16}$O and $^{28, 32}$S. The numerical results are compared with the available data. Calculations indicate that the extended charge density distributions of $^{12}$O and $^{28}$S have observable effects on the cross sections of the electron or positron scatteri…
The influence on fusion of coupling to the breakup process is investigated for reactions where at least one of the colliding nuclei has a sufficiently low binding energy for breakup to become an important process. Elastic scattering, excitation functions for sub-and near-barrier fusion cross sections, and breakup yields are analyzed for $^{6,7}$Li+$^{59}$Co. Continuum-Discretized Coupled-Channels (CDCC) calculations describe well the data at and above the barrier. Elastic scattering with $^{6}$Li (as compared to $^{7}$Li) indicates the significant role of breakup for weakly bound projectiles. …
We investigate the use of elastic and inelastic scatterings with secondary beams of radioactive nuclei as a mean to obtain information on ground state properties and transition matrix elements to continuum states. An eikonal model is developed for this purpose by using the folding potential. In particular we discuss possible signatures of halo wavefunctions in elastic and inelastic scattering experiments.
An "ab initio" calculation of the Carbon-12 elastic form factor, and sum rules of longitudinal and transverse response functions measured in inclusive (e,e') scattering, is reported, based on realistic nuclear potentials and electromagnetic currents. The longitudinal elastic form factor and sum rule are found to be in satisfactory agreement with available experimental data. A direct comparison between theory and experiment is difficult for the transverse sum rule. However, it is shown that the calculated one has large contributions from two-body currents, indicating that these mechanisms lead …
A generalized optical potential for elastic scattering induced by light nuclei is calculated within the Feshbach projection operator method. The model explicitly takes into account the contribution of the projectile break-up continuum treated within a microscopic few-cluster model. In this work we formulate the model, deriving an explicit expression for the optical potential, and show ability of the model applying it to deuteron elastic scattering.
We present theoretical predictions for electron scattering on oxygen and calcium isotopic chains. The calculations are done within the framework of the distorted-wave Born approximation and the proton and neutron density distributions are evaluated adopting a relativistic Dirac-Hartree model. We present results for the elastic and quasi-elastic cross sections and for the parity-violating asymmetry. As a first step, the results of the models are tested in comparison with some of the data available for elastic and quasi-elastic scattering on 16O and 40Ca nuclei. Then, the evolution of some nucle…
In recent years, we constructed a microscopic optical potential (OP) for elastic nucleon-nucleus ($NA$) scattering using modern approaches based on chiral theories for the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction. The OP was derived at first order of the spectator expansion in Watson multiple scattering theory and its final expression was a folding integral between the $NN$ $t$ matrix and the nuclear density of the target. Two- and three-body forces are consistently included both in the target and in the projectile description. The purpose of this work is to apply our microscopic OP to nuclei charac…
We present the first example of a rigorous uncertainty quantification on elastic Nucleus-Nucleus scattering at energies near the Coulomb barrier. Experimental data has been analyzed using an energy dependent effective optical model potential with physical constraints imposed. We confirm the compatibility of these uncertainties with the well known Coulomb threshold anomaly, explained in terms of a dispersive relation, and contrast our results with previous analyses that suggest otherwise.
We show a relationship between elastic electron scattering observables and the elastic neutrino cross section that provides a straightforward determination of the latter from experimental data of the former and relates their uncertainties. An illustration of this procedure is presented using a Hartree-Fock mean field for the nuclear structure of a set of even-even nuclear targets, using the spectra of the neutrinos produced in pion decay at rest. We also analyze the prospects to measure the incoherent axial contribution to the neutrino elastic scattering in odd targets.
The density distributions of $^{10}$Be and $^{11}$Be nuclei obtained within the quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) model and the generator coordinate method (GCM) are used to calculate the microscopic optical potentials (OPs) and cross sections of elastic scattering of these nuclei on protons and $^{12}$C at energies $E<100$ MeV/nucleon. The real part of the OP is calculated using the folding model with the exchange terms included, while the imaginary part of the OP that reproduces the phase of scattering is obtained in the high-energy approximation (HEA). In this hybrid model of OP the free parameters…
The validity of the approximations done in the mean field description of the quasi-elastic excitation of medium-heavy nuclei is discussed. A test of the reliability of the plane wave Born approximation is presented. The uncertainty related to the choice of the electromagnetic nucleon form factors is discussed. The effects produced by the meson exchange currents generated by the exchange of a single pion are studied, as well as the need of including relativistic corrections to the one-body currents. The results of the continuum shell model and those of the Fermi gas model are compared and the n…
A parton picture of inclusive quasi-elastic electron-nucleus scattering, where individual nucleons are treated as (non point-like) partons of the nucleus, is presented. All the necessary target-mass corrections to asymptotic scaling are evaluated and a new scaling variable is obtained. Recent inclusive data from Jefferson Lab are analyzed and shown to scale in terms of the new variable. The new approach allows to extract in a model-independent way the nucleon light-cone momentum distribution in the nucleus.
The method of fusion barrier distribution has been widely used to interpret the effect of nuclear structure on heavy-ion fusion reactions around the Coulomb barrier. We discuss a similar, but less well known, barrier distribution extracted from large-angle quasi-elastic scattering. We argue that this method has several advantages over the fusion barrier distribution, and offers an interesting tool for investigating unstable nuclei.
Background: The eikonal approximation is a high-energy reaction model which is very computationally efficient and provides a simple interpretation of the collision. Unfortunately, it is not valid at energies around 10 MeV/nucleon, the range of energy of HIE-ISOLDE at CERN and the future ReA12 at MSU. Fukui etal. [Phys. Rev. C 90, 034617 (2014)] have shown that a simple semiclassical correction of the projectile-target deflection could improve the description of breakup of halo nuclei on heavy targets down to 20 MeV/nucleon. Purpose: We study two similar corrections, which aim at improving the …
Structure of weakly bound/unbound light nuclei is often related to the low-energy decay channels involving composite particles like deuteron or $α$-particle. These channels are essential to understand the appearance of light nuclei in the Big Bang nucleosynthesis or the helium fusion. We generalize the Gamow shell model (GSM) in coupled-channel (GSM-CC) representation to include reaction channels with the composite particles. In the core + valence particle formulation, this unified microscopic approach for structure and reactions involving weakly bound/unbound nuclei can be also applied to stu…
Proton-rich nuclei possess unique properties in the nuclear chart. Due to the presence of both continuum coupling and Coulomb interaction, phenomena such as halos, Thomas-Ehrman shift, and proton emissions can occur. Experimental data are difficult to be obtained therein, so that theoretical calculations are needed to understand nuclei at drip-lines and guide experimentalists for that matter. In particular, the $^{16}$Ne and $^{18}$Mg isotopes are supposed to be one-proton and/or two-proton emitting nuclei, but associated experimental data are either incomplete or even unavailable. Consequentl…
This work addresses the question of precisely what features of few body models of halo nuclei are probed by elastic scattering on protons at high centre-of-mass energies. Our treatment is based on a multiple scattering expansion of the proton-projectile transition amplitude in a form which is well adapted to the weakly bound cluster picture of halo nuclei. In the specific case of $^{11}$Li scattering from protons at 800 MeV/u we show that because core recoil effects are significant, scattering crosssections can not, in general, be deduced from knowledge of the total matter density alone. We ad…
We present a study on the charge current quasi elastic scattering of $ν_μ$ from nucleon and nuclei which gives a charged muon in the final state. To describe nuclei, the Fermi Gas model has been used with proposed Pauli suppression factor. The diffuseness parameter of the Fermi distribution has been obtained using experimental data. We also investigate different parametrizations for electric and magnetic Sach's form factors of nucleons. Calculations have been made for CCQES total and differential cross sections for the cases of $ν_μ-N$, $ν_μ-^{12}C$ and $ν_μ-^{56}Fe$ scatterings and are compar…
In order to clear up the sensitivity of the nucleus-nucleus scattering to the nuclear matter distributions of exotic halo nuclei, we have calculated differential cross sections for elastic scattering of the $^6$He and $^{11}$Li nuclei on several nuclear targets at the energy of 0.8 GeV/nucleon with different assumed nuclear density distributions in $^6$He and $^{11}$Li.
We investigate the use of proton-nucleus elastic scattering experiments using secondary beams of 6He and 8He to determine the physical structure of these nuclei. The sensitivity of these experiments to nuclear structure is examined by using four different nuclear structure models with different spatial features using a full-folding optical potential model. The results show that elastic scattering at intermediate energies (<100 MeV per nucleon) is not a good constraint to be used to determine features of structure. Therefore researchers should look elsewhere to put constraints on the ground sta…
Calculation of elastic p8Li- and p9Li-scattering differential cross sections, performed at two energies 0.07 and 0.7 GeV/nucleon within Glauber multiple diffraction scattering, are presented and discussed. Three-body wave functions: alpha-t-n (for 8Li) and 7Li-n-n (for 9Li) with realistic potentials of intercluster interactions were used there. Sensitivity of elastic scattering to proton-nucleus interaction and nuclear structure has been studied. In particular, dependence of differential cross section on contribution of higher-order collisions, scattering at core and at periphery nucleons, on …
The angular distributions for elastic scattering and breakup of halo nuclei are analysed using a near-side/far-side decomposition within the framework of the dynamical eikonal approximation. This analysis is performed for 11Be impinging on Pb at 69AMeV. These distributions exhibit very similar features. In particular they are both near-side dominated, as expected from Coulomb-dominated reactions. The general shape of these distributions is sensitive mostly to the projectile-target interactions, but is also affected by the extension of the halo. This suggests that the link between elastic scatt…
The event rates for WIMP-nucleus and neutrino-nucleus scattering processes, expected to be detected in ton-scale rare-event detectors, are investigated. We focus on nuclear isotopes that correspond to the target nuclei of current and future experiments looking for WIMP- and neutrino-nucleus events. The nuclear structure calculations, performed in the context of the deformed shell model, are based on Hartree-Fock intrinsic states with angular momentum projection and band mixing for both the elastic and the inelastic channels. Our predictions in the high-recoil-energy tail show that detectable d…
Analytical expressions for the elastic and dynamic form factors (FFs) are derived in the shell model (SM) with a potential well of finite depth. The consideration takes into account the motion of the target-nucleus center of mass (CM). Explanation is suggested for a simultaneous shrinking of the density and momentum distributions of nucleons in nuclei. The convenient working formulae are given to handle the expectation values of relevant multiplicative operators in case of the 1s-1p shell nuclei.
$p\,Λ$ emission in coincidence following $K^-$ absorption at rest in nuclei is studied using quantum mechanical scattering theory and nuclear wave functions. $K^-$ absorption is assumed to occur on two protons in the nucleus. In the formalism, emphasis is put on the study of the final state interaction (FSI) effects of $p$ and $Λ$ with the recoiling nucleus. We include elastic scattering and single nucleon knock-out (KO) channels in the FSI. Calculations are presented for the $^{12}$C nucleus, using shell model wave functions, and without any extra mass modification of the $K^-\,pp$ system in …
Optical potential parameters in nuclear model calculations are determined by fitting elastic scattering angular distribution data. Due to the dominance of Coulomb part, elastic scattering is performed at much higher energies. A different approach using ($α$,n) reaction is suggested to determine the alpha optical potentials suitable for astrophysically relevant low energy regions. Reaction on p-nuclei in the mass region A $\approx$ 92-168 have been chosen and a modified McFadden-Satchler $α$-optical potential is obtained from fitting the ($α$,n) reaction data. The effect of level density and $γ…
We present an exploratory study of structure of 13C, 15C, 17C and 19C, showing that the simple one-quasiparticle projected BCS (PBCS) model is capable to account for several important properties of these nuclei. Next we discuss the importance of the Pauli Principle in the particle-core models of normal-parity states in 13C and 11Be. This is done by considering the pairing interaction between nucleons moving in an over-all deformed potential. To assess the importance of pairing correlations in these light nuclei we use both the simple BCS and the PBCS approximations. We show that the Pauli Prin…
The charged-current quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrino on a carbon target is calculated for neutrino energy up to 2.8 GeV using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation with relativistic optical potential, which was earlier successfully applied to describe electron-nucleus data. We studied both neutrino and electron processes and have shown that the reduced exclusive cross section for neutrino and electron scattering are similar. We have also studied nuclear and axial vector mass effects on the shape of $Q^2$ distribution. The comparison of the (anti)neutrino total cross se…
The properties of $\isotope[12]{C}$, $\isotope[16]{O}$, and $\isotope[20]{Ne}$ nuclei in strong magnetic fields $B\simeq 10^{17}\,$G are studied in the context of strongly magnetized neutron stars and white dwarfs. The SKY3D code is extended to incorporate the interaction of nucleons with the magnetic field and is utilized to solve the time-independent Hartree-Fock equations with a Skyrme interaction on a Cartesian three-dimensional grid. The numerical solutions demonstrate a number of phenomena, which include a splitting of the energy levels of spin-up and -down nucleons, spontaneous rearrang…
Using coupled-cluster theory and interactions from chiral effective field theory, we compute overlap functions for transfer and scattering of low-energy protons on the target nucleus 40-Ca. Effects of three-nucleon forces are included phenomenologically as in-medium two-nucleon interactions. Using known asymptotic forms for one-nucleon overlap functions we derive a simple and intuitive way of computing scattering observables such as elastic scattering phase shifts and cross sections. As a first application and proof-of-principle, we compute phase shifts and differential interaction cross secti…
We present a theoretical formalism for scattering of the twisted neutrons by nuclei in a kinematic regime where interference between Coulomb interaction and the strong interaction is essential. Twisted neutrons have definite quantized values of an angular momentum projection along the direction of propagation, and we show that it results in novel observable effects for the scattering cross section, spin asymmetries and polarization of the scattered neutrons. We demonstrate that additional capabilities provided by beam's orbital angular momentum enable new techniques for measuring both real and…
The absolute differential cross sections for small-angle proton elastic scattering off the nuclei $^{12,14-17}$C have been measured in inverse kinematics at energies near 700 MeV/u at GSI Darmstadt. The hydrogen-filled ionization chamber IKAR served simultaneously as a gas target and a detector for the recoil protons. The projectile scattering angles were measured with multi-wire tracking detectors. The radial nuclear matter density distributions and the root-mean-square nuclear matter radii were deduced from the measured cross sections using the Glauber multiple-scattering theory. A possible …
Ground state properties of carbon isotopes, including root-mean-square radii, neutron separation energies, single particle spectra, and shapes are systematically studied with the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum. The calculations with the effective interaction PK1 reproduce the available data reasonably well. The shell evolution in this isotopic chain is investigated by examining the single particle spectra. The inversion of neutron orbitals $ν2s_{1/2}$ and $ν1d_{5/2}$ compared with the order of neutron orbitals in stable nuclei is revealed in $^{15-20,22}\mathrm{C}…
We have performed CDCC calculations for collisions of $^{7}$Li projectiles on $^{59}$Co, $^{144}$Sm and $^{208}$Pb targets at near-barrier energies, to assess the importance of the Coulomb and the nuclear couplings in the breakup of $^{7}$Li, as well as the Coulomb-nuclear interference. We have also investigated scaling laws, expressing the dependence of the cross sections on the charge and the mass of the target. This work is complementary to the one previously reported by us on the breakup of $^{6}$Li. Here we explore the similarities and differences between the results for the two Lithium i…
In conventional nuclear experiments a beam of accelerated nuclei collides with a target nucleus that is surrounded by other nuclei in a molecule, in condensed matter, or in a plasma environment. It is shown that for low collision energies possible nuclear reactions (including deuterium fusion) are strongly boosted by the environment. The effect originates from a chain of preliminary three elastic collisions which transform the projectile-target experiment into one with colliding beams. Firstly, the projectile-target pair of nuclei undergo elastic scattering in which the projectile shares its e…
The charged-current quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrinos on calcium and argon targets is calculated for neutrino energy up to 2.8 GeV. The calculations are done within the framework of the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation, which was earlier successfully applied to describe electron-nucleus data. The model is first tested against experimental data for electron scattering off calcium and then it is applied to calculate (anti)neutrino cross sections on 40Ca and 40Ar. We show that reduced exclusive cross sections for neutrino and electron scattering are similar. A significan…
We perform Glauber model calculations of the antiproton-nucleus elastic and quasielastic scattering and absorption in the beam momentum range $\sim 0.5\div10$ GeV/c. A good agreement of our calculations with available LEAR data and with earlier Glauber model studies of the $\bar p A$ elastic scattering allows us to make predictions at the beam momenta of $\sim 10$ GeV/c, i.e. at the regime of the PANDA experiment at FAIR. The comparison with the proton-nucleus elastic scattering cross sections shows that the diffractive minima are much deeper in the $\bar p A$ case due to smaller absolute valu…
