Absolute normalisation of the LHC measurements with O(1%) precision and their relative normalisation, for the data collected at variable centre-of-mass energies, or for variable beam particle species, with O(0.1%) precision is crucial for the LHC experimental programme but presently beyond the reach for the general purpose LHC detectors. This paper is the third in the series of papers presenting the measurement method capable to achieve such a goal.
We study the precision with which the t-channel single top quark production cross section is expected to be measured in future LHC runs at 14 TeV. The single top final state has a lepton and neutrino from the top quark decay plus two jets, one of which is required to be b-tagged. This measurement is done in the context of the Snowmass 2013 study for the low-luminosity 14 TeV and the high-luminosity 14 TeV LHC as well as for high-luminosity 33 TeV LHC.
The High-Luminosity LHC is expected to provide $3 ab^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. As a result billions of events containing top quarks will be detected at the CMS and ATLAS experiments, allowing for precise measurements of the top quark properties. The experimental challenges that will be faced in a high luminosity environment, with a special focus on top quark related observables are examined. We discuss prospects for measuring top quark anomalous couplings at the HL-LHC. Projections for detecting flavor changing neutral currents involving top quarks are also reviewed.
The physics accessible at the high-luminosity phase of the LHC extends well beyond that of the earlier LHC program. This white paper, submitted as input to the Snowmass Community Planning Study 2013, contains preliminary studies of selected topics, spanning from Higgs boson studies to new particle searches and rare top quark decays. They illustrate the substantially enhanced physics reach with an increased integrated luminosity of 3000 fb-1, and motivate the planned upgrades of the LHC machine and ATLAS detector.
The question of naturalness of the Standard Model (SM) has been a hot topic since the discovery that the Higgs boson has a relatively light mass. It has been pointed out in the past that the mass of a scalar boson can be destabilized by loop corrections. Many theories have been proposed beyond the SM to address this problem. It is possible that such mechanisms contribute to the running of the Higgs mass with the energy scale. We present predictions for the precision of the Higgs mass measurement up to a Higgs boson transverse momentum of 1 TeV for the LHC in Run 3 with a luminosity of 300 fb-1…
This article summarizes a talk given at Higgs Hunting 2014 on projections of the sensitivity of the ATLAS and CMS experiments to beyond Standard Model Higgs physics at the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. We describe results on vector boson scattering, searches for additional neutral Higgs bosons in two Higgs doublet models and flavour changing neutral current top decays.
A new approach to determine the LHC luminosity is investigated. Instead of employing the proton-proton luminosity measurement, we suggest to measure directly the parton-parton luminosity. It is shown that the electron and muon pseudorapidity distributions, originating from the decay of W+, W- and Z0 bosons produced at 14 TeV pp collisions (LHC), constrain the x distributions of sea and valence quarks and antiquarks in the range from about 3 x 10**-4 to about 10**-1 at a Q**2 of about 10**4 GeV**2. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that, once the quark and antiquark structure functions are constr…
Higgs boson self-interactions can be investigated via di-Higgs ($pp\to hh+X$) production at the LHC. With a small ${\cal{O}}(30)$ fb Standard Model production cross section, and a large $t\bar t$ background, this measurement has been considered challenging, even at a luminosity-upgraded LHC. We demonstrate that by using simple kinematic bounding variables, of the sort already employed in existing LHC searches, the dominant $t\bar t$ background can be largely eliminated. Simulations of the signal and the dominant background demonstrate the prospect for measurement of the di-Higgs production cro…
The High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider is expected to deliver up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collisions at 14 TeV center-of-mass energy. We present prospects for selected heavy-ion, Standard Model and Higgs sector measurements with the CMS detector at the HL-LHC, and discuss potential sensitivity to several beyond-Standard Model new physics scenarios.
The High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) is expected to deliver an integrated luminosity of up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$. The very high instantaneous luminosity will lead to about 200 proton-proton collisions per bunch crossing (pileup) superimposed to each event of interest, thus providing extremely challenging experimental conditions, which will be addressed by accompanying improvements in the decetors. The sensitivity to find new physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) is significantly improved and will allow to extend the reach for SUSY, heavy exotic resonances, vector like quarks, dark …
We study resonances decaying to one top quark and one additional quark (b or c) at the low- luminosity and high-luminosity 14 TeV LHC and at a future 33 TeV hadron collider in the context of Snowmass 2013. A heavy W boson that preferentially couples to quarks can be found through its decay to tb. A Kaluza-Klein gluon might have a significant branching ratio to tc. The final state in these searches has a lepton and neutrino from a W boson decay plus two jets, at least one of which is b-tagged. We give expected limits as a function of W boson and KKg masses for different collider energy and inte…
We present a novel event generation framework for the efficient simulation of vector boson plus multi-jet backgrounds at the high-luminosity LHC and at possible future hadron colliders. MPI parallelization of parton-level and particle-level event generation and storage of parton-level event information using the HDF5 data format allow us to obtain leading-order merged Monte-Carlo predictions with up to nine jets in the final state. The parton-level event samples generated in this manner correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3ab-1 and are made publicly available for future phenomenological …
Recent clarifications of naturalness in supersymmetry robustly require the presence of four light higgsinos with mass ~100-300 GeV while gluinos and (top)-squarks may lie in the multi-TeV range, possibly out of LHC reach. We project the high luminosity (300-3000 fb^{-1}) reach of LHC14 via gluino cascade decays and via same-sign diboson production. We compare these to the reach for neutralino pair production \tz_1\tz_2 followed by \tz_2\to\tz_1\ell^+\ell^- decay to soft dileptons which recoil against a hard jet. It appears that 3000 fb^{-1} is just about sufficient integrated luminosity to pro…
A method to measure integrated luminosities at the LHC using Z bosons without theoretical cross section input is discussed. The main uncertainties and the prospects for precision luminosity measurements using this method are outlined.

Construction of future Muon Collider tangential to the Large Hadron Collider will give opportunity to realize mu-p collisions at multi-TeV center of mass energies. Using nominal parameters of high luminosity and high energy upgrades of the LHC, as well as design parameters of muon colliders, it is shown that L_mu-p of order of 10^33 cm^-2s^-1 is achievable for different options with sqrt(s)_mu-p from 4.58 TeV to 12.7 TeV. Certainly, proposed mu-p colliders have a huge potential for clarifying QCD basics and searches for new physics.
Run 1 at the LHC was very successful with the discovery of a new boson. The boson's properties are found to be compatible with those of the Standard Model Higgs boson. It is now revealing the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking and (possibly) the discovery of physics beyond the Standard Model that are the primary goals of the just restarted LHC. The ultimate precision will be reached at the High-Luminosity LHC phase with a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV. In this contribution physics prospects are presented for ATLAS for the integrated luminosities 300/fb and 3000/fb: the …
Searches for weakly interacting particles is one of the main goals of the high luminosity LHC run. In this work we study the well motivated cases of electroweakinos with mostly Wino and Bino components. We show the relevance of squark induced t-channel production in defining the production cross section and hence the LHC reach. Moreover, a realistic evaluation of the decay branching ratios show a strong dependence on the sign of $μ$ and, for negative values of $μ$, on the relative size of the ratio of $μ$ to the gaugino masses compared with tan$β$. Overall, unless it is kinematically suppresse…
We study the phenomenology of associated production of a vector boson with a pair of Higgs bosons ($VHH$) at the High-Luminosity LHC. Despite the low rate of this channel, the scaling of the cross section suggests a measurement could be a useful probe of modifications of the trilinear Higgs boson coupling and anomalous interactions in the gauge-Higgs sector. We focus on both $WHH$ and $ZHH$ production, using the leptonic ($W \to l ν$, $Z \to ll$, $Z \to νν$) decay modes of the vector bosons and the $HH \to 4b$ di-Higgs decay mode. We show that top pair backgrounds are problematic for the $W \t…
Since its start of data taking, the LHC has provided an impressive wealth of information on the quark and gluon structure of the proton. Indeed, modern global analyses of parton distribution functions (PDFs) include a wide range of LHC measurements of processes such as the production of jets, electroweak gauge bosons, and top quark pairs. In this work, we assess the ultimate constraining power of LHC data on the PDFs that can be expected from the complete dataset, in particular after the High-Luminosity (HL) phase, starting in around 2025. The huge statistics of the HL-LHC, delivering $\mathca…
The $t\bar t$ plus missing energy channel is one of the most efficient to detect third-generation leptoquarks (LQs). It offers an important test to models which explain flavor anomalies in $B$ meson decays. We outline a search strategy in the channel, relying on tagging the tops and on observables constructed out of the tops, and we assess the reach on LQs of the future high-luminosity LHC program. We find that with 3 ab$^{-1}$ a vector (scalar) LQ decaying 50% (100%) to top and neutrino can be excluded up to masses of 1.96 TeV (1.54 TeV). We also indicate several observables that, in case of …
The high energy cosmic ray flux impinging on the sun and earth for 4 Gyr is compared to the operation of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at design energy and luminosity. It is shown by two different calculations that both the integrated luminosity and the total hadronic interaction rate from the cosmic ray flux of comparable energy are many orders of magnitude larger than that of the LHC operated for 10 years. This study indicates that it is extremely unlikely that pernicious exotic particles, such as mini-black holes, would be produced by the LHC that would destroy the earth.
The application of the two-photon process pp -> pp + mu^+mu^- for the luminosity measurements at LHC with the ATLAS detector is considered. The expected accuracy of the absolute offline luminosity determination is 1 - 2 % for the luminosity range of 10^{33} - 10^{34} cm^-2 s^-1. The preliminary cross section estimates done for LHCb promise the same level of the luminosity measurement accuracy at L = 2 x 10^{32} cm^-2 s^-1.
The completion of Run 1 of the CERN Large Hadron Collider has seen the discovery of the Higgs boson and an unprecedented number of precise measurements of the Standard Model, while Run 2 operation has just started to provide first data at higher energy. Upgrades of the LHC to high luminosity (HL-LHC) and the experiments (ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHCb) will exploit the full potential of the collider to discover and explore new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this article, the experimental challenges and the physics opportunities in proton-proton collisions at the HL-LHC are reviewed.
In January 2007 the CERN director general announced the plan for the staged upgrade of the LHC luminosity. The plan foresees a phase 1 upgrade reaching a peak luminosity of $3 \times 10^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ followed by phase reaching up to $ 10^{35}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. We discuss the physics potential and the experimental challenges of an upgraded LHC running. The detector R&D needed to operate ATLAS and CMS in a very high radiation environment and the expected detector performance are also discussed.
Recently the ATLAS experiment was complemented with a set of ultra-small-angle detectors located in ``Roman Pot'' inserts at 240m on either side of the interaction point, aiming at the absolute determination of the LHC luminosity by measuring the elastic scattering rate at the Coulomb Nuclear Interference region. Details of the proposed measurement the detector construction and the expected performance as well as the challenges involved are discussed here.
We review the main software and computing challenges for the Monte Carlo physics event generators used by the LHC experiments, in view of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) physics programme. This paper has been prepared by the HEP Software Foundation (HSF) Physics Event Generator Working Group as an input to the LHCC review of HL-LHC computing, which has started in May 2020.
We suggest a way of improving the probes on dimension-6 CP-conserving $HVV$ interactions ($V$ = $W$, $Z$, $γ$), from the LHC data on the Higgs boson to be available in the 14 TeV run with an integrated luminosity of $3000$ fb$^{-1}$. We find that the ratios of total rates in different channels can be quite useful in this respect. This includes ratios of event rates in (a) different final states for the Higgs produced by the same production mechanism, and (b) the same final state from two different production modes. While most theoretical uncertainties cancel in the former, the latter helps in …
This is the first of the series of papers which present a precision method of the day-by-day monitoring of the absolute LHC luminosity. The method is based on the measurement of the rate of coplanar lepton pairs produced in peripheral collisions of the beams' particles. In the present paper we evaluate the modeling precision of the lepton pair production processes in proton-proton collisions, optimize the measurement region to achieve better than 1% accuracy of the predicted rates, and discuss the experimental challenges to filter out the luminosity monitoring lepton pairs at LHC.

One of the early criterion proposed for naturalness was a relatively small Higgs mixing parameter $μ$ with $μ/M_Z$ order few. A relatively small $μ$ may lead to heavier Higgs masses ($H^0, A, H^{\pm}$ in MSSM) which are significantly lighter than other scalars such as squarks. Such a situation is realized on the hyperbolic branch of radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry. In this analysis we construct supergravity unified models with relatively small $μ$ in the sense described above and discuss the search for the charged Higgs boson $H^{\pm}$ at HL-LHC and HE-LHC where we also carry ou…
Gamma-proton collisions allow unprecedented investigations of the low x and high $Q^{2}$ regions in quantum chromodynamics. In this paper, we investigate the luminosity for "ILC"$\times$LHC ($\sqrt{s_{ep}}=1.3$ TeV) and "CLIC"$\times$LHC ($\sqrt{s_{ep}}=1.45$ TeV) based $γp$ colliders. Also we determine the laser properties required for high conversion efficiency.

The luminosity determination for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV in 2012 is presented. The evaluation of the luminosity scale is performed using several luminometers, and comparisons between these luminosity detectors are made to assess the accuracy, consistency and long-term stability of the results. A luminosity uncertainty of dL/L = +/- 1.9% is obtained for the 22.7 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collision data delivered to ATLAS at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV in 2012.
The Large Hadron Collider is the world's largest and highest center-of-mass energy particle accelerator. During the Phase I operation it is expected that the LHC operated at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV will deliver to the CMS experiment total integrated luminosity of $\sim$300 fb$^{-1}$ till 2023. The High Luminosity LHC upgrade is expected to run at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV and will allow ATLAS and CMS to collect integrated luminosities of the order of 300 fb$^{-1}$ per year, and up to 3000 fb$^{-1}$ during the HL-LHC projected lifetime of ten years. The large expected integrat…
We discuss complementarity of discovery reaches of heavier neutral Higgs bosons and charged Higgs bosons at the LHC and the International Linear Collider (ILC) in two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs). We perform a comprehensive analysis on their production and decay processes for all types of Yukawa interaction under the softly-broken discrete symmetry which is introduced to avoid flavour changing neutral currents, and we investigate parameter spaces of discovering additional Higgs bosons at the ILC beyond the LHC reach. We find that the 500 GeV run of the ILC with the integrated luminosity of 500…
The elastic production of top quark pairs in $pp$ collisions at low and high luminosity regimes is investigated in detail. We extend the study performed in Phys. Rev. D102, 074014 (2020) which has demonstrated that the sum of two semi-exclusive $t\bar{t}$ production modes, namely in photon-Pomeron and Pomeron-Pomeron interactions, can be experimentally measured when the $t\bar{t}$ system decays semi-leptonically, $t\bar{t}\rightarrow jjblν_l\bar{b}$, both forward protons are tagged and a low amount of pile-up is present. In this study we focus on separating individual channels and a special at…
While the CMS experiment is currently harvesting LHC collision data at CERN, the performance of its electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) is being constantly monitored, and work has started to assess the need for changes to the detector to ensure an adequate performance for High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) running, which is planned for 2022 and beyond. In this paper, results from CMS running, beam tests and laboratory measurements are combined to anticipate the detector performance evolution at the HL-LHC. Further, various R&D studies are illustrated, that will provide a useful choice for electromagn…
The high resolution of the LHCb vertex detector makes it possible to perform precise measurements of the vertex positions of beam-gas and beam-beam interactions. With these measurements beam parameters such as width and position can be measured. A novel method for determining the absolute luminosity at the LHC using the directly measured beam parameters is presented. The data taken in 2009 is used to illustrate the procedure.
High-Luminosity running at the LHC, which is planned for 2022 and beyond, will imply an order of magnitude increase in radiation levels and particle fluences with respect to the present LHC running conditions. The performance evolution of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL), comprising 75,848 scintillating lead tungstate crystals, indicates that an upgrade of its endcaps will be needed for HL-LHC running, to ensure an adequate performance. Results from LHC collision periods, beam tests and laboratory measurements of proton-irradiated crystals are combined to predict the performance of t…
We investigate the potential reach of a search for a long-lived/prompt dark vector boson $Z_D$, also called dark $Z$, and a prompt dark Higgs boson $h_D$ through exotic decays of the observed Higgs boson $h$ into either $Z_DZ_D$, $h_Dh_D$, or $ZZ_D$ with $Z$ being the hypercharge gauge boson. The $Z_D$ production through the Higgs portal is completed via one of two mechanisms, kinetic mixing of $Z_D$ with $Z$ and the mixing of $h_D$ with $h$. All production modes of $h$ are considered, while the branching fractions are calculated in Monte Carlo simulation using the {\textsc{MadGraph5}}\_aMC@NL…
Quark-Gluon tagging performance at the High-Luminosity LHC using constituent-based transformer models

We consider the possibility of a 120x120 GeV e+e- ring collider in the LHC tunnel. A luminosity of 10^34/cm2/s can be obtained with a luminosity life time of a few minutes. A high operation efficiency would require two machines: a low emittance collider storage ring and a separate accelerator injecting electrons and positrons into the storage ring to top up the beams every few minutes. A design inspired from the high luminosity b-factory design and from the LHeC design report is presented. Statistics of over 10^4 HZ events per year per experiment can be contemplated for a Standard Higgs Boson …
The luminosity calibration for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in 2010 and 2011 is presented. Evaluation of the luminosity scale is performed using several luminosity-sensitive detectors, and comparisons are made of the long-term stability and accuracy of this calibration applied to the pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. A luminosity uncertainty of Delta L/L = +/- 3.5% is obtained for the 47 pb-1 of data delivered to ATLAS in 2010, and an uncertainty of Delta L/L = +/- 1.8% is obtained for the 5.5 fb-1 delivered in 2011.
The LHC machine is planning an upgrade program, which will smoothly bring the instantaneous luminosity to about $5-7.5\times10^{34}~\mathrm{cm}^{-2}\mathrm{s}^{-1}$ in 2028, to possibly reach an integrated luminosity of 3000-4500 fb$^{-1}$ by the end of 2039. This High-Luminosity LHC scenario, HL-LHC, will require a preparation program of the LHC detectors known as Phase-2 upgrade. The current CMS Outer Tracker, already running beyond design specifications, and the recently installed CMS Phase-1 Pixel Detector will not be able to survive the HL-LHC radiation conditions. Thus, CMS will need com…
SND@LHC Upgrade for the High-Luminosity LHC: Physics Reach and Installation Scenarios

In the LHC searches for gluinos it is usually assumed that they decay predominantly into the lightest neutralino plus jets. In this work we perform a proof-of-concept collider analysis of a novel supersymmetric signal in which gluinos decay mostly into jets and the bino-like neutralino ($\tildeχ_3^0$), which in turn decays into the lightest Higgsino-like neutralino ($\tildeχ_1^0$), considered the dark matter candidate, together with the SM-like Higgs boson ($h$). This new physics signal then consists of an LHC final state made up by four light jets, four $b$-jets, and a large amount of missing…
The impact on the physics capabilities of the ATLAS detector of possible LHC upgrades is discussed. As a benchmark, an increase in the luminosity by a factor of ten is considered. For comparison, a doubling of the LHC energy is also explored. Both upgrades significantly enhance the physics capabilities of ATLAS. As measured in terms of the mass reach for new particles, the energy upgrade is more powerful. However, in cases where the effect of an upgrade is to increase the precision of measurements as a result of the larger data samples, the luminosity upgrade can be at least as powerful. The p…
The Run 2 data taking period of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in years 2015-2018 has presented a great opportunity to search for physics beyond the standard model (BSM). It will be followed by the Run 3 period starting in 2022, and by the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era starting in late 2020s, where the latter promises an unprecedented wealth of physics prospects due to very high expected integrated luminosity and improved detector features. The ATLAS, CMS and LHCb experiments pursued a rich physics program in Run 2, and are already assessing the physics expectations at the HL-LHC e…
At $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV, the standard model needs at least $10\, (fb)^{-1}$ integrated luminosity at LHC to make a definitive discovery of the Higgs boson. Using binary tetrahedral ($T^{'}$) discrete flavor symmetry, we discuss how the decay of the lightest $T'$ Higgs into $γ\,γ$ can be effectively enhanced and dominate over its decay into $b \, \bar{b}$. Since the two-photon final state allows for a clean reconstruction, a decisive Higgs discovery may be possible at 7 TeV with the integrated luminosity only of $\sim 1\, (fb)^{-1}$.
At the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), the CMS experiment will face a harsh environment with a high instantaneous luminosity up to 7x10$^{34}$/cm$^2$/s corresponding to an average of 140-200 multiple proton-proton collisions per bunch crossing. The main goal of the CMS Level 1 (L1) trigger upgrade for the HL-LHC is to maintain trigger thresholds that are as low as possible and comparable to those currently in use at the LHC, and to possibly include new triggers that were not feasible at the LHC. This will be achieved by upgrading the detector readout electronics, to allow a much larger L1 trigge…
Main parameters and physics goals of different colliders, which can be realized if a special 1 TeV energy linear electron accelerator or corresponding linear collider is constructed tangential to LHC, are discussed. It is shown that L_(ep)=10^(32)cm^(-2)s^(-1) at sqrt(s_(ep))=5.29 TeV can be achieved within moderate upgrade of LHC parameters. Then, Gamma-p collider with he same luminosity and sqrt(s)=4.82 TeV can be realized using Compton backscattering of laser beam off the electron beam. Concerning the nucleus beam, L*A=10^(31)cm^(-2)s^(-1) can be achieved at least for light and medium nucle…
Measurements of luminosity obtained using the ATLAS detector during early running of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV are presented. The luminosity is independently determined using several detectors and multiple algorithms, each having different acceptances, systematic uncertainties and sensitivity to background. The ratios of the luminosities obtained from these methods are monitored as a function of time and of mu, the average number of inelastic interactions per bunch crossing. Residual time- and mu-dependence between the methods is less than 2% for 0<mu<2.5. Absolute lum…
Absolute normalisation of the LHC measurements with a precision of O(1%) is desirable but beyond the reach of the present LHC detectors. This series of papers proposes and evaluates a measurement method capable to achieve such a precision target. In our earlier paper we have selected the phase-space region where the lepton pair production cross section in pp collisions at the LHC can be controlled with < 1 % precision and is large enough to reach a comparable statistical accuracy of the absolute luminosity measurement on the day-by-day basis. In the present one the performance requirements for…
We study the $W/Z$ pair production via two-photon exchange at the LHC and give the sensitivities on trilinear and quartic gauge anomalous couplings between photons and $W/Z$ bosons for an integrated luminosity of 30 and 200 fb$^{-1}$. For simplicity and to obtain lower backgrounds, only the leptonic decays of the electroweak bosons are considered. The intact protons in the final states are detected in the ATLAS Forward Proton detectors. The high energy and luminosity of the LHC and the forward detectors allow to probe beyond standard model physics and to test the higgsless and extra dimension …
The Tile Calorimeter (TileCal) is the central hadronic calorimeter of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The LHC is scheduled to undergo a major upgrade, in 2022, for the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The ATLAS upgrade program for high luminosity is split into three phases: Phase-0 occurred during $2013-2014$ and prepared the LHC for Run 2; Phase-I, foreseen for 2019, will prepare the LHC for Run 3, whereafter the peak luminosity reaches $2-3 \times 10^{34}$ cm$^{2}s^{-1}$; finally, Phase-II, which is foreseen for 2024, will prepare the collider for the HL-LHC operation (…

The CMS inner pixel detector system is planned to be replaced during the first phase of the LHC luminosity upgrade. The plans foresee an ultra low mass system with four barrel layers and three disks on either end. With the expected increase in particle rates, the electronic readout chain will be changed for fast digital signals. An overview of the envisaged design options for the upgraded CMS pixel detector is given, as well as estimates of the tracking and vertexing performance.
A Portable Parton-Level Event Generator for the High-Luminosity LHC

The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) will integrate 10 times more luminosity than the LHC, posing significant challenges for radiation tolerance and event pileup on detectors, especially for forward calorimetry, and hallmarks the issue for future colliders. As part of its HL-LHC upgrade program, the CMS collaboration is designing a High Granularity Calorimeter to replace the existing endcap calorimeters. It features unprecedented transverse and longitudinal segmentation for both electromagnetic (ECAL) and hadronic (HCAL) compartments. This will facilitate particle-flow calorimetry, where the fine …
