We construct a family of partially hyperbolic skew-product diffeomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^3$ that are robustly transitive and admitting two physical measures with intermingled basins. In particularly, all these diffeomorphisms are not topologically mixing. Moreover, for every such example, it exhibits a dichotomy under perturbation: every perturbation of such example either has a unique physical measure and is robustly topologically mixing, or has two physical measures with intermingled basins.
Let $\mathcal{E}$ be the set of endomorphisms of the $n$-torus. We exhibit an example of a map such that is robustly transitive if $\mathcal{E}$ is endowed with the $C^2$ topology but is not robustly transitive if $\mathcal{E}$ is endowed with the $C^1$ topology.
We improve previous results by exhibiting a construction that contains all known examples. A suficient condition for the existence of robustly transitive maps displaying singularities on a certain large class of compact manifolds is given.
We construct symplectomorphisms in dimension $d\geq 4$ having a semi-local robustly transitive partially hyperbolic set containing $C^2$-robust homoclinic tangencies of any codimension $c$ with $0<c\leq d/2$.
We show that a class of robustly transitive diffeomorphisms originally described by Mañé are intrinsically ergodic. More precisely we obtain an open set of diffeomorphisms which fail to be uniformly hyperbolic, but nevertheless have constant entropy and isomorphic unique measures of maximal entropy.
In this paper, we define $C^1$-robust transitivity for actions of $\RR^2$ on closed connected orientable manifolds. We prove that if the ambient manifold is three dimensional and the dense orbit of a robustly transitive action is not planar, then it is "degenerate" and the action is defined by an Anosov flow.
We present an example of a $\mathcal{C}^1$-robustly transitive skew-product with non-trivial, non-hyperbolic action on homology. The example is conservative, ergodic, non-uniformly hyperbolic and its fiber directions cannot be decomposed into two dominated expanded/contracted bundles.
Consider the set $E$ of endomorphisms of the n-torus endowed with the $C^1$ topology. A point in $E$ that is persistently singular and robustly transitive is exhibited.
Homoclinic tangencies and singular hyperbolicity are involved in the Palis conjecture for vector fields. Typical three dimensional vector fields are well understood by recent works. We study the dynamics of higher dimensional vector fields that are away from homoclinic tangencies. More precisely, we prove that for \emph{any} dimensional vector field that is away from homoclinic tangencies, all singularities contained in its robustly transitive singular set are all hyperbolic and have the same index. Moreover, the robustly transitive set is {$C^1$-generically }partially hyperbolic if the vector…
It is well known that smooth (or continuous) vector fields cannot be topologically transitive on the sphere $§^2$. Piecewise-smooth vector fields, on the other hand, may present non-trivial recurrence even on $§^2$. Accordingly, in this paper the existence of topologically transitive piecewise-smooth vector fields on $§^2$ is proved, see Theorem \ref{teorema-principal}. We also prove that transitivity occurs alongside the presence of some particular portions of the phase portrait known as {\it sliding region} and {\it escaping region}. More precisely, Theorem \ref{main:transitivity} states tha…
In this article we intend to contribute in the understanding of the ergodic properties of the set RT of robustly transitive local diffeomorphisms on a compact manifold M without boundary. We prove that there exists a C^1 residual subset R_0 of RT such that any f in R_0 has a residual subset of M with dense pre-orbits. Moreover, C^1 generically in the space of local diffeomorphisms with no splitting and all points with dense pre-orbit, there are uncountably many ergodic expanding invariant measures with full support and exhibiting exponential decay of correlations. In particular, these results …
We address the problem of necessary conditions and topological obstructions for the existence of robustly transitive maps on surfaces. Concretely, we show that partial hyperbolicity is a necessary condition in order to have $C^1$ robustly transitive endomorphisms with critical points on surfaces, and the only surfaces that admits robustly transitive maps are either the torus or the klein bottle. Moreover, we show that every robustly transitive endomorphism is homotopic to a linear map having at least one eigenvalue with modulus larger than one.
For diffeomorphisms or for non-singular flows, there are many results relating properties persistent under C1 perturbations and global structures for the dynamics ( such as hyperbolicity, partial hyperbolicity, dominated splitting). However, a difículty appears when a robust property of a flow holds on a set containing recurrent orbits accumulating a singular point. In [BdL] with Christan Bonatti we propose a a general procedure for adapting the usual hyperbolic structures to the singularities. In this paper, using this tool, we recover the results in [BDP] for flows, showing that robustly cha…
In this paper we show the relation between robust transitivity and robust ergodicity for conservative diffeomorphisms. In dimension 2 robustly transitive systems are robustly ergodic. For the three dimensional case, we define it almost robust ergodicity and prove that generically robustly transitive systems are almost robustly ergodic, if the Lyapunov exponents are nonzero. We also show in higher dimensions, that under some conditions robust transitivity implies robust ergodicity.
We prove that in a compact manifold of dimension $n\geq 2$, a $C^{1+α}$ volume-preserving diffeomorphisms that are robustly transitive in the $C^1$-topology have a dominated splitting. Also we prove that for 3-dimensional compact manifolds, an isolated robustly transitive invariant set for a divergence-free vector field can not have a singularity. In particular, we prove that robustly transitive divergence-free vector fields in 3-dimensional manifolds are Anosov. For this, we prove some ``pasting'' lemma, which allows to make perturbations in conservative systems.
Perturbations of time-one maps of transitive Anosov flows are studied. We show that most perturbations have no intermingled basins of hyperbolic physical measures.
We address the problem of giving necessary and sufficient conditions in order to have robustly transitive endomorphisms admitting persistent critical sets. We exhibit different type of open examples of robustly transitive maps in any isotopic class of endomorphisms acting on the two dimensional torus admitting persistent critical points. We also provide some necessary condition for robust transitivity in this setting.
We prove that C^1-robustly transitive diffeomorphisms on surfaces with boundary do not exist, and we exhibit a class of diffeomorphisms of surfaces with boundary which are C^k-robustly transitive, with k greater or equal than 2. This class of diffeomorphisms are examples where a version of Palis' conjecture on surfaces with boundary, about homoclinic tangencies and uniform hyperbolicity, does not hold in the C^2-topology. This follows showing that blow-up of pseudo-Anosov diffeomorphisms on surfaces without boundary, become C^2-robustly topologically mixing diffeomorphisms on a surfaces with b…
We analyze a class of deformations of Anosov diffeomorphisms: these $C^0$-small, but $C^1$-macroscopic deformations break the topological conjugacy class but leave the high entropy dynamics unchanged. More precisely, there is a partial conjugacy between the deformation and the original Anosov system that identifies all invariant probability measures with entropy close to the maximum. We also establish expansiveness around those measures. This class of deformations contains many of the known nonhyperbolic robustly transitive diffeomorphisms. In particular, we show that it includes a class of no…
We show that robustly transitive endomorphisms of a closed manifolds must have a non-trivial dominated splitting or be a local diffeomorphism. This allows to get some topological obstructions for the existence of robustly transitive endomorphisms. To obtain the result we must understand the structure of the kernel of the differential and the recurrence to the critical set of the endomorphism after perturbation.
We prove that any compact manifold without boundary admits a pair of diffeomorphisms that generates $C^1$ robustly minimal dynamics. We apply the results to the construction of blenders and robustly transitive skew product diffeomorphisms.
We show that time-one maps of transitive Anosov flows of compact manifolds are accumulated by diffeomorphisms robustly satisfying the following dichotomy: either all of the measures of maximal entropy are non-hyperbolic, or there are exactly two ergodic measures of maximal entropy, one with a positive central exponent and the other with a negative central exponent. We establish this dichotomy for certain partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms isotopic to the identity whenever both of their strong foliations are minimal. Our proof builds on the approach developed by Margulis for Anosov flows wher…
We prove that every robustly transitive and every stably ergodic symplectic diffeomorphism on a compact manifold admits a dominated splitting. In fact, these diffeomorphisms are partially hyperbolic.
Let $M$ be a smooth compact manifold and $Λ$ be a compact invariant set. In this paper we prove that for every robustly transitive set $Λ$, $f|_Λ$ satisfies a $C^1-$generic-stable shadowable property (resp., $C^1-$generic-stable transitive specification property or $C^1-$generic-stable barycenter property) if and only if $Λ$ is a hyperbolic basic set. In particular, $f|_Λ$ satisfies a $C^1-$stable shadowable property (resp., $C^1-$stable transitive specification property or $C^1-$stable barycenter property) if and only if $Λ$ is a hyperbolic basic set. Similar results are valid for volume-pres…
We prove that a divergence-free and C1-robustly transitive vector field has no singularities. Moreover, if the vector field is C4 then the linear Poincare flow associated to it admits a dominated splitting over M.
It was shown that in robustly transitive, partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms on three dimensional closed manifolds, the strong stable or unstable foliation is minimal. In this article, we prove ``almost all'' leaves of both stable and unstable foliations are dense in the whole manifold.
We show that the set of Bernoulli measures of an isolated topologically mixing homoclinic class of a generic diffeomorphism is a dense subset of the set of invariant measures supported on the class. For this, we introduce the large periods property and show that this is a robust property for these classes. We also show that the whole manifold is a homoclinic class for an open and dense subset of the set of robustly transitive diffeomorphisms far away from homoclinic tangencies. In particular, using results from Abdenur and Crovisier, we obtain that every diffeomorphism in this subset is robust…
The (measure-theoretical) entropy of a diffeomorphism along an expanding invariant foliation is the rate of complexity generated by the diffeomorphism along the leaves of the foliation. We prove that this number varies upper semi-continuously with the diffeomorphism ($\C^1$ topology), the invariant measure (weak* topology) and the foliation itself in a suitable sense. This has several important consequences. For one thing, it implies that the set of Gibbs $u$-states of $\C^{1+}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms is an upper semi-continuous function of the map in the $\C^1$ topology. Another…
Let $M$ be a closed smooth Riemannian manifold $M$, and let $f:M\to M$ be a diffeomorphism. Herein, we demonstrate that (i) if $f$ has the $C^1$ robustly inverse shadowing property on the chain recurrent set $\mathcal{CR}(f)$, then $\mathcal{CR}(f)$ is hyperbolic and (ii) if $f$ has the $C^1$ robustly inverse shadowing property on a nontrivial transitive set $Λ\subset M$, then $Λ$ is hyperbolic for $f$. Especially, the item (ii) is a proof of the conjecture of Lee and Lee \cite{LL}.
We construct examples of robustly transitive and stably ergodic partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms $f$ on compact $3$-manifolds with fundamental groups of exponential growth such that $f^n$ is not homotopic to identity for all $n>0$. These provide counterexamples to a classification conjecture of Pujals.
We show that the robustly transitive diffeomorphisms constructed by Bonatti and Viana have unique equilibrium states for natural classes of potentials. In particular, we characterize the SRB measure as the unique equilibrium state for a suitable geometric potential. The techniques developed are applicable to a wide class of DA diffeomorphisms, and persist under $C^1$ perturbations of the map. These results are an application of general machinery developed by the first and last named authors.
We prove that for some manifolds $M$ the set of robustly transitive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of $M$ with one-dimensional nonhyperbolic centre direction contains a $C^1$-open and dense subset of diffeomorphisms with nonhyperbolic measures which are ergodic, fully supported and have positive entropy. To do so, we formulate abstract conditions sufficient for the construction of an ergodic, fully supported measure $μ$ which has positive entropy and is such that for a continuous function $ϕ\colon X\to\mathbb{R}$ the integral $\intϕ\,dμ$ vanishes. The criterion is an extended version of …
We study thermodynamic formalism for the family of robustly transitive diffeomorphisms introduced by Mañé, establishing existence and uniqueness of equilibrium states for natural classes of potential functions. In particular, we characterize the SRB measures for these diffeomorphisms as unique equilibrium states for a suitable geometric potential. We also obtain large deviations and multifractal results for the unique equilibrium states produced by the main theorem.
We give explicit $C^1$-open conditions that ensure that a diffeomorphism possesses a nonhyperbolic ergodic measure with positive entropy. Actually, our criterion provides the existence of a partially hyperbolic compact set with one-dimensional center and positive topological entropy on which the center Lyapunov exponent vanishes uniformly. The conditions of the criterion are met on a $C^1$-dense and open subset of the set of a diffeomorphisms having a robust cycle. As a corollary, there exists a $C^1$-open and dense subset of the set of non-Anosov robustly transitive diffeomorphisms consisting…
We study $C^1$-robustly transitive and nonhyperbolic diffeomorphisms having a partially hyperbolic splitting with one-dimensional central bundle whose strong un-/stable foliations are both minimal. {In dimension $3$, an important class of examples of such systems is given by those with a simple closed periodic curve tangent to the central bundle.} We prove that there is a $C^1$-open and dense subset of such diffeomorphisms such that every nonhyperbolic ergodic measure (i.e. with zero central exponent) can be approximated in the weak$\ast$ topology and in entropy by measures supported in basic …
