英文摘要:
We study the $t\bar t b \bar b$ final state at the LHC as a probe of New Physics that couples mainly to third generation of quarks. We analyze New Physics simplified models with resonances of spin 0, 1 and 2. The sensitivity of the final states $t\bar t b\bar b$, $t\bar t t \bar t$, $b \bar b b \bar b$ and $t \bar t$ on each of these models is used to identify an important region in parameter space that is still not excluded and where $t\bar t b \bar b$ is the most sensitive final state. We indicate possible experimental hints and discuss potential issues of observables that rely mainly in Montecarlo predictions. A new observable is proposed that, at the price of requiring more statistics, reduces the impact of Montecarlo predictions. We use preliminary 13 TeV results to give a raw estimate on the discovery reach and propose simple improvements on the observables.
Theoretical predictions for ttbb production are of crucial importance for ttH measurements in the H->bb channel at the LHC. To address the large uncertainties associated with the modelling of extra QCD radiation in ttbb events, in this paper we present a calculation of pp->ttbbj at NLO QCD. The behaviour of NLO corrections is analysed in a variety of observables, and to assess theoretical uncertainties we use factor-two rescalings as well as different dynamic scales. In this context, we propose a systematic alignment of dynamic scales that makes it possible to disentangle normalisation and sha…
In this article, we report on the computation of the NLO QCD corrections to ${\rm p}{\rm p} \to μ^-\barν_μ{\rm e}^+ν_{\rm e}\bar{\rm b}{\rm b}\bar{\rm b}{\rm b}$ at the LHC, which is an irreducible background to ${\rm p}{\rm p}\to{\rm t}\bar{\rm t}{\rm H}\bigl(\to{\rm b}\bar{\rm b}\bigr)$. This is the first time that a full NLO computation for a $2\to8$ process with 6 external strongly-interacting partons is made public. No approximations are used, and all off-shell and interference effects are taken into account. Cross sections and differential distributions from the full computation are comp…
Axion-like particles (ALPs) are predicted by many extensions of the Standard Model (SM). When ALP mass lies in the range of MeV to GeV, the cosmology and astrophysics will be largely irrelevant. In this work, we investigate such light ALPs through the ALP-strahlung process $pp \to V a (\to γγ)$ at the 14 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ (HL-LHC). With the photon-jet algorithm, we demonstrate that our approach can probe the mass range of ALPs, which is inaccessible to previous LHC experiments. The obtained result can surpass the existing limits on ALP-photon coupling in t…
We investigate the reach at the LHC to probe light sterile neutrinos with displaced vertices. We focus on sterile neutrinos $N$ with masses $m_{N} \sim $ (5-30) GeV, that are produced in rare decays of the Standard Model gauge bosons and decay inside the inner trackers of the LHC detectors. With a strategy that triggers on the prompt lepton accompanying the $N$ displaced vertex and considers charged tracks associated to it, we show that the 13 TeV LHC with $3000$/fb is able to probe active-sterile neutrino mixings down to $|V_{lN}|^2\approx 10^{-9}$, with $l=e,μ$, which is an improvement of up…
We propose to utilize the transverse mass variable $M_{T2}$ and it's descendant $M_{2Cons}$ for constraining the CP admixture of the tau lepton Yukawa coupling at the LHC. We have considered the tau lepton pair produced from the Higgs boson with each tau decays to a charged pion and a neutrino, $τ^{\pm} \rightarrow π^{\pm} ν_τ$. Recently, for this channel, the LHC has employed the impact parameter method to measure the CP mixing angle of tau lepton Yukawa coupling with large uncertainty. The observables we propose here can be measured in the lab frame without the impact parameter measurement a…
The LHC possibilities to constrain the parameters of the Randall-Sundrum-like model with one warped extra dimension and small curvature through the diphoton production in the photon-induced process pp -> p gamma gamma p -> p' gamma gamma p' are investigated. Two acceptances of the forward detectors, 0.015 < xi < 0.15 and 0.015 < xi < 0.5, where xi is the fractional proton momentum loss of the incident protons, are considered. The sensitivity bounds on the 5-dimensional gravity scale are obtained as a function of the LHC integrated luminosity.
Models incorporating flavoured dark matter provide an elegant solution to the dark matter problem, evading the tight LHC and direct direction constraints on simple WIMP models. In Dark Minimal Flavour Violation, a simple framework of flavoured dark matter with new sources of flavour violation, the constraints from thermal freeze-out, direct detection experiments, and flavour physics create well-defined benchmark scenarios for these models. We study the LHC phenomenology of four such scenarios, focusing on final states where a single top quark is produced accompanied by no jets, one jet from th…
In the context of the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT) we examine the constraints on the trilinear Higgs coupling that originate from off-shell Higgs production in proton-proton collisions. Our calculation of the $gg \to h^\ast \to Z Z \to 4 \ell$ process includes two-loop corrections to gluon-gluon-fusion Higgs production and one-loop corrections to the Higgs propagator and its decay. Employing a matrix-element based kinematic discriminant we determine the reach of LHC Run 3 and the high-luminosity option of the LHC in constraining the relevant SMEFT Wilson coefficients. We prese…
We calculate the $\mathcal{O}(α)$ weak corrections to top quark pair production at the LHC and include anomalous electroweak interactions from dimension-six operators. The loop calculation and renormalization are consistently done within the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. Sensitivity to the involved operators is exposed through the virtual corrections, which receive enhancement from electroweak Sudakov logarithms. We investigate the prospects of using this feature for probing New Physics at the LHC that so far has only been studied in final states with on-shell sensitivity such as $t\b…
Right-handed (RH) Majorana neutrinos play a crucial role in understanding the origin of neutrino mass, the nature of dark matter and the mechanism of matter-antimatter asymmetry. In this work, we investigate the observability of heavy Majorana neutrino through the top quark neutrinoless double beta decay process $t \to b \ell^+ \ell^+ j j$ at hadron colliders. By performing detector level simulation, we demonstrate that our method can give stronger limits on the light-heavy neutrino mixing parameters $|V_{eN, μN}|$ in the mass range of 15 GeV $< m_N <$ 80 GeV than other existing collider bound…
We study the complementarity between the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future lepton colliders in probing electroweak baryogenesis induced by an additional bottom Yukawa coupling $ρ_{bb}$. The context is general two Higgs doublet model (g2HDM) where such additional bottom Yukawa coupling can account for the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe if $\mbox{Im}(ρ_{bb}) \gtrsim 0.058$. We find that LHC would probe the nominal $\mbox{Im}(ρ_{bb})$ required for baryogenesis to some extent via $bg \to bA \to bZh$ process if $300~\mbox{GeV}\lesssim m_A \lesssim 450$ GeV, where $A$ is the CP-odd s…
The usual range of new particle masses, up to a few TeV, searched for at the LHC may be substantially extended if ultraheavy diquark particles exist. A diquark scalar, $S_{uu}$, that interacts perturbatively with two up quarks may be as heavy as 10 TeV and would still produce tens of spectacular events at the 14 TeV LHC. It is shown here that an ultraheavy $S_{uu}$ could be discovered through final states of very high energy in various channels, especially if the diquark can decay into other new heavy particles. Examples include cascade decays of $S_{uu}$ via a second scalar produced in pairs,…
The Higgs-top coupling plays a central role in the hierarchy problem and the vacuum stability of the Standard Model (SM). We propose a central-edge asymmetry ($A_{CE}$) to probe the CP violating Higgs-top coupling in dileptonic channel of $t\bar{t}h(\to b\bar{b})$ production at the LHC. We demonstrate that the CP-violating Higgs-top coupling can affect the central-edge asymmetry through distorting $Δy_{\ell^+\ell^-}$ distribution because of the contribution of new top charge asymmetric term. Since $Δy_{\ell^+\ell^-}$ distribution is frame-independent and has a good discrimination even in boost…
The production of $X(4350)$ in the $γγ$ interactions that occur in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is investigated and predictions for the kinematical ranges probed by the ALICE and LHCb Collaborations are presented. We focus on the $γγ\rightarrow ϕJ/Ψ$ process, which have been measured by the Belle Collaboration, and present parameter free predictions for the total cross sections at the LHC energies. Our results demonstrate that the experimental study of this process is feasible and can be used to confirm or not the existenc…
We propose a new experimental method to probe the photon parton distribution function inside the proton (photon PDF) at LHC energies. The method is based on the measurement of dilepton production from the $γp\rightarrow\ell^+\ell^-+X$ reaction in proton--lead collisions. These experimental conditions guarantee a clean environment, both in terms of reconstruction of the final state and in terms of possible background. We firstly calculate the cross sections for this process with collinear photon PDFs, where we identify optimal choice of the scale, in analogy to deep inelastic scattering kinemat…
Electroweak-interacting massive particles (EWIMPs) exist in a broad class of new physics models beyond the Standard Model. Searching for such particles is one of most primary goal at the LHC and future colliders. The EWIMP generally affects the LHC signatures through quantum corrections even without direct productions. By measuring the Standard Model processes precisely, we can indirectly probe the EWIMPs. In this paper, we study the current constraint and future prospect of the EWIMPs by using the precision measurements of mono-lepton production from the charged Drell-Yan processes at hadron …
We explore the LHC reach on beyond-the-Standard Model (BSM) particles $X$ associated with a new strong force in a hidden sector. We focus on the motivated scenario where the SM and hidden sectors are connected by fermionic mediators $ψ^{+, 0}$ that carry SM electroweak charges. The most promising signal is the Drell-Yan production of a $ψ^\pm \barψ^0$ pair, which forms an electrically charged vector bound state $Υ^\pm$ due to the hidden force and later undergoes resonant annihilation into $W^\pm X$. We analyze this final state in detail in the cases where $X$ is a real scalar $ϕ$ that decays t…
It is extremely challenging to probe the charm-quark Yukawa coupling at hadron colliders primarily due to the large Standard Model (SM) background (including $h\to b\bar b$) and the lack of an effective trigger for the signal $h\to c\bar c$. We examine the feasibility of probing this coupling at the LHC via a Higgs radiative decay $h\rightarrow c\bar{c}γ$. The existence of an additional photon in the final state may help for the signal identification and background suppression. Adopting a refined triggering strategy and utilizing basic machine learning, we find that a coupling limit of about 8…
We study the potential of future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) data to probe four-fermion operators in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). The ability to perform measurements with both polarized electron and proton beams at the EIC provides a powerful tool that can disentangle the effects from different SMEFT operators. We compare the potential constraints from an EIC with those obtained from Drell-Yan data at the Large Hadron Collider. We show that EIC data plays an important complementary role since it probes combinations of Wilson coefficients not accessible through available D…

New Physics model building requires a vast number of cross-checks against available experimental results. In particular, new neutral, colorless, spin-1 bosons $Z'$, can be found in many models. We introduce in this work a new easy-to-use software Z'-explorer which probes $Z'$ models to all available decay channels at LHC. This program scrutinizes the parameter space of the model to determine which part is still allowed, which is to be shortly explored, and which channel is the most sensitive in each region of parameter space. User does not need to implement the model nor run any Monte Carlo si…
