In light of recent remarkable progress in Higgs search at the LHC, we study the rare decay process $h \to Zγ$ and show its correlation with the decay $h \to γγ$ in low energy SUSY models such as CMSSM, MSSM, NMSSM and nMSSM. Under various experimental constraints, we scan the parameter space of each model, and present in the allowed parameter space the SUSY predictions on the $Zγ$ and $γγ$ signal rates in the Higgs production at the LHC and future e+e- linear colliders. We have following observations: (i) Compared with the SM prediction, the $Zγ$ and $γγ$ signal rates in the CMSSM are both slightly suppressed; (ii) In the MSSM, both the $Zγ$ and $γγ$ rates can be either enhanced or suppressed, and in optimal case, the enhancement factors can reach 1.2 and 2 respectively; (iii) In the NMSSM, the $Zγ$ and $γγ$ signal rates normalized by their SM predictions are strongly correlated, and vary from 0.2 to 2; (iv) In the nMSSM, the $Zγ$ and $γγ$ rates are greatly reduced. Since the correlation behavior between the Zγsignal and the γγsignal is so model-dependent, it may be used to distinguish the models in future experiments.
The LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS have reported an excess in the diphoton spectrum at \sim 750 GeV. At the same time the motivation for Supersymmetry (SUSY) remains unbowed. Consequently, we review briefly the proposals to explain this excess in SUSY, focusing on "pure" (N)MSSM solutions. We then review in more detail a proposal to realize this excess within the NMSSM. In this particular scenario a Higgs boson with mass around 750 GeV decays to two light pseudo-scalar Higgs bosons. Via mixing with the pion these pseudo-scalars decay into a pair of highly collimated photons, which are identifie…
We derive a new bound on diphoton resonances using inclusive diphoton cross section measurements at the LHC, in the so-far poorly constrained mass range between the Upsilon and the SM Higgs. This bound sets the current best limit on axion-like particles that couple to gluons and photons, for masses between 10 and 65 GeV. We also estimate indicative sensitivities of a dedicated diphoton LHC search in the same mass region, at 7, 8 and 14 TeV. As a byproduct of our analysis, we comment on the axion-like particle interpretation of the CMS excesses in low-mass dijet and diphoton searches.
We propose that the sbino, the scalar partner of a Dirac bino can explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed by ATLAS and CMS . We analyze a model in which the sbino couples to pairs of Standard Model (SM) gauge bosons. We analyze an effective operator model, as well as a completion in which the sbino couples to pairs of gauge bosons through loops of heavy sfermions. We find that the sbino may be given an appreciable decay width through tree level coupling in the Higgs or Higgsino sector and additionally fit the 750 GeV excess by considering gluon fusion processes with decay to diphotons.
The Higgs diphoton amplitude from gluon fusion at the LHC interferes with the continuum background induced by quark loops. I investigate the effect of this interference on the position of the diphoton invariant mass peak used to help determine the Higgs mass. At leading order, the interference shifts the peak towards lower mass by an amount of order 150 MeV or more, with the precise value dependent on the methods used to analyze and fit the data.
We explore the ability of the high luminosity LHC to test models which can explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess. We focus on a wide class of models where a 750 GeV singlet scalar couples to Standard Model gauge bosons and quarks, as well as dark matter. Including both gluon and photon fusion production mechanisms, we show that LHC searches in channels correlated with the diphoton signal will be able to probe wide classes of diphoton models with $\mathcal{L} \sim 3000\, \text{fb}^{-1}$ of data. Furthermore, models in which the scalar is a portal to the dark sector can be cornered with as little …
We review the current status of searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model in the diphoton channel at the LHC and estimate the reach with future collected data. We perform a model independent analysis based on an effective field theory approach and different production mechanisms. As an illustrative example, we apply our results to a scenario of minimal composite dynamics.
The recently observed diphoton resonance around 750~GeV at the LHC Run-2 could be interpreted as a weak singlet scalar. The scalar might also decay into a pair of $Z$-boson and photon. The $Z$-boson is highly boosted and appears as a fat jet in the detector. We use the jet substructure method to explore the possibility of discovering the singlet scalar in the process of $pp\to S\to Zγ$ in the future LHC experiment.
We calculate the NNLO QCD corrections to diphoton production with an additional jet at the LHC. Our calculation represents the first NNLO-accurate prediction for the transverse momentum distribution of the diphoton system. The improvement in the accuracy of the theoretical prediction is significant, by a factor of up to four relative to NLO QCD. Our calculation is exact except for the finite remainder of the two-loop amplitude which is included at leading color. The numerical impact of this approximated contribution is small. The results of this work are expected to further our understanding o…
In this paper, we present the next-to-leading order predictions for diphoton production in the ADD model, matched to the HERWIG parton shower using the MC@NLO formalism. A selection of the results is presented for d=2-6 extra dimensions, using generic cuts as well as analysis cuts mimicking the search strategies as pursued by the ATLAS and CMS experiments.
Precision measurements of the Drell-Yan (DY) cross section at the LHC constrain new physics scenarios that involve new states with electroweak (EW) charges. We analyze these constraints and apply them to models that can address the LHC diphoton excess at 750 GeV. We confront these findings with LEP EW precision tests and show that DY provides stronger constraints than the LEP data. While 8 TeV data can already probe some parts of the interesting region of parameter space, LHC14 results are expected to cover a substantial part of the relevant terrain. We derive the bounds from the existing data…
The Higgs mass determination from diphoton events at the LHC can be affected by interference between the Higgs resonant and continuum background amplitudes with the same initial and final states. For the leading order gluon fusion process, this shift was previously found to exceed 100 MeV, with some dependence on the diphoton mass resolution and the methods used to extract and fit the peak from data. In this paper, I consider the mass shift for the process pp --> jγγ that includes an additional central jet in the final state. For cuts on the transverse momentum of the jet of 25 GeV or more, th…
Inspired by the diphoton signal excess observed in the latest data of 13 TeV LHC, we consider either a 750 GeV real scalar or pseudo-scalar responsible for this anomaly. We propose a concrete vector-like quark model, in which the vector-like fermion pairs directly couple to this scalar via Yukawa interaction. For this setting the scalar is mainly produced via gluon fusion, then decays at the one-loop level to SM diboson channels $gg, γγ, ZZ, WW$. We show that for the vector-like fermion pairs with exotic electric charges, such model can account for the diphoton excess and is consistent with th…
We compute to next-to-leading order in QCD the tensor unparticle contribution to the diphoton production at the LHC, wherein the unparticle sector is a consequence of (a) scale invariance but not full conformal invariance and (b) conformal invariance. We use the semi-analytical two cutoff phase space slicing method to handle the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ corrections to the $p p \to γγX$ and show that our results are insensitive to the soft and collinear cutoffs. In order to avoid the contribution of the photons due to fragmentation, we employ the smooth cone isolation criterion. Significance of the QCD …
We propose to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in deflected anomaly mediation supersymmetry breaking scenarios, which can naturally predict couplings between a singlet field and vector-like messengers. The CP-even scalar component (S) of the singlet field can serve as the 750 GeV resonance. The messenger scale, which is of order the gravitino scale, can be as light as F_ϕ\sim {\cal O}(10) TeV when the messenger species N_F and the deflection parameter d are moderately large. Such messengers can induce the large loop decay process S \to γγ. Our results show that such a scenario can success…
The recent observation of a modest excess in diphoton final states at the LHC, by both the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, has sparked off the expected race among theorists to find the right explanation for this proto-resonance, assuming that the signal will survive and not prove to be yet another statistical fluctuation. We carry out a general analysis of this `signal' in the case of a scalar which couples only to pairs of gluons (for production) and photons (for diphoton decay modes), and establish that an explanation of the observed resonance, taken together with the null results of new physi…
The evidence for a new singlet scalar particle from the 750 GeV diphoton excess, and the absence of any other signal of new physics at the LHC so far, suggest the existence of new coloured scalars. To study this possibility, we propose a supersymmetry inspired simplified model, extending the Standard Model with a singlet scalar and with heavy scalar fields carrying both colour and electric charges -- the `squarks'. To allow the latter to decay, and to generate the dark matter of the Universe, we also add a neutral fermion to the particle content. We show that this model provides a two-paramete…
We study the implications of the LHC diphoton and Z+photon Higgs signals on the Higgs triplet model with Y=0. We discuss three different scenarios: (i) the observed boson is the light Higgs boson $h$; (ii) it is the heavy Higgs boson $H$; (iii) the observed signal is from the almost degenerate $h$ and $H$. We find that the inclusive Higgs diphoton rates in the first two scenarios can be enhanced or suppressed compared to the SM value, which can respectively fit the ATLAS and CMS diphoton data within $1σ$ range. The inclusive $ZZ^*$ rates are suppressed, which are outside $1σ$ range of ATLAS da…
Extra scalar fields are common in beyond Standard Model (SM) new physics, and they may mix with the 125 GeV SM-like Higgs boson discovered at the LHC. This fact suggests possible discovery channels for these new scalar fields with their decay modes involving the 125 GeV Higgs boson. In this work, we explore the LHC search potential of the heavy CP-even Higgs boson H in the two-Higgs-doublet model. We focus on the channel of H decaying to a pair of light CP-even Higgs bosons h, with two h's decaying to two b jets and diphoton sequentially. This channel is particularly involved when the relevant…
We focus on exclusive production of neutral technipion $\tilde π^0$ in $pp$ collisions at the LHC, i.e. on $p p \to p p \tilde π^0$ reaction. The dependence of the cross section on parameters of recently proposed vector-like Technicolor model is studied. Characteristic features of the differential distributions are discussed. For not too large technipion masses the diphoton decay channel has the dominant branching fraction. This is also the main reason for an enhanced production of neutral technipions in $γγ$-fusion reaction. We discuss potential backgrounds of the QCD and QED origin to the $p…
The significance of discovering the boson of 750 GeV is beyond finding a single heavy boson, because it may hint the location of the scale for new physics beyond the standard model which is the target of long-time exploration. There have been many models to explain the diphoton excess observed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations and the BLMSSM is one of them. The BLMSSM is an extension of the minimal supersymmetric model where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries. We analyze the decay channels $Φ\rightarrow gg$, $Φ\rightarrowγγ$, $Φ\rightarrow Zγ$, and $Φ\rightarrow \bar{t}t,\;…
We examine the parameter space of the purely phenomenological minimal super- symmetric standard model (MSSM), without assuming any supersymmetry breaking scheme. We find that a large region of the parameter space can indeed yield the lightest neutral Higgs mass around 125 GeV, as suggested by the recent ATLAS data, and also lead to event rates around, or slightly higher than, the standard model expectation in the two-photon and four-lepton channels. Using a lightest neutralino that is considerably lighter than the Higgs, we find that the 'invisible' decay of the Higgs into a pair of neutralino…
We present a possible interpretation of the recent diphoton excess reported by the $\sqrt s=13$ TeV LHC data in quark seesaw left-right models with vectorlike fermions proposed to solve the strong $CP$ problem without the axion. The gauge singlet real scalar field responsible for the mass of the vectorlike fermions has the right production cross section and diphoton branching ratio to be identifiable with the reported excess at around 750 GeV diphoton invariant mass. Various ways to test this hypothesis as more data accumulates at the LHC are proposed.
In this paper we present a next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculation of the process $pp\rightarrow γγ$ that we have implemented into the parton level Monte Carlo code MCFM. We do not find agreement with the previous calculation of this process in the literature. In addition to the $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$ corrections present at NNLO, we include some effects arising at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^3)$, namely those associated with gluon-initiated closed fermion loops. We investigate the role of this process in the context of studies of QCD at colliders and as a background for searches for new physics, p…
Recently, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations report excesses around $750$ GeV in the diphoton channels. This might be the evidence which reveals new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper, we consider models with a $750$ GeV scalar and vector-like particles, which couple each other through Yukawa couplings. The diphoton decay of the scalar is enhanced by the loop diagrams involving the extra colored particles. We investigate not only the setup required by the excesses, but also the LHC constraints, especially concerned with the vector-like particles. We consider the scenario that the e…
We compute the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the gluon-fusion subprocess of diphoton-plus-jet production at the LHC. We compute fully differential distributions by combining two-loop virtual corrections with one-loop real radiation using antenna subtraction to cancel infrared divergences. We observe significant corrections at NLO which demonstrate the importance of combining these corrections with the quark-induced diphoton-plus-jet channel at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO).
Extensions of the Standard Model Higgs sector with electroweak charged scalars can possess exotic `Higgs' bosons with vanishing or suppressed couplings to Standard Model fermions. These `fermiophobic' scalars, which cannot be produced via gluon fusion, are constrained by LHC measurements of the 125 GeV Higgs boson to have a small vacuum expectation value. This implies that vector boson fusion and associated vector boson production are in general suppressed rendering conventional Higgs searches insensitive. However, Drell-Yan Higgs pair production, which is not present in the SM, can be sizeabl…
LHC Run-2 has provided intriguing di-photon signals of a new resonance around 750GeV, which, if not due to statistical fluctuations, must call for new physics beyond the standard model (SM) at TeV scale. We propose a minimal extension of the SM with a complex singlet scalar $\mathcal{S}$ and a doublet of vector-like quarks. The scalar sector respects CP symmetry, with its CP-odd imaginary component $χ$ providing a natural dark matter (DM) candidate. The real component of $\mathcal{S}$ serves as the new resonance (750GeV) and explains the diphoton excess of the LHC Run-2. The new scalar degrees…
We present a detailed description of a search for anomalous production of missing E_T ($\mett$), jets, leptons ($e, μ, τ$), b-quarks, or additional photons in events containing two isolated, central ($|η|<1.0$) photons with $\Et > 12$ GeV}. The results are consistent with standard model expectations, with the possible exception of one event that has in addition to the two photons a central electron, a high-E_T electromagnetic cluster, and large $\mett$. We set limits using two specific SUSY scenarios for production of diphoton events with $\mett$.
We have searched for anomalous production of missing E$_{\rm T}$ ($\mett$), jets, leptons ($e, μ, τ$), $b$-quarks, or additional photons in events containing two isolated, central \mbox{($|η|<1.0$)} photons with \mbox{$\Et>12$~GeV}. The results are consistent with standard model expectations, with the possible exception of one event that has in addition to the two photons a central electron, a high-E$_{\rm T}$ electromagnetic cluster, and large $\mett$. We set limits using two specific SUSY scenarios for production of diphoton events with $\mett$.
We investigate the parameter space of a model which extends next to minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with the vectorlike (VL) particles. We find that the $10+\overline{10}$ model can explain the possible diphoton excess recently revealed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, although the predicted signal strength is a little smaller than the observed one.
Recent results from the experimental collaborations at LHC give hints of a resonance in the diphoton channel at an invariant mass of 750 GeV. We show that such a scalar resonance would be possible in an $U(1)$ extension of the SM where the extended symmetry is hidden and yet to be discovered. We explore the possibilities of accommodating this excess by introducing a minimal extension to the matter content and highlight the parameter space that can accommodate the observed diphoton resonance in the model. The model also predicts new interesting signals that may be observed at the current LHC ru…
A new type of dark matter (DM) theories are proposed in the light of the standard model (SM) singlet scalar $ϕ$ which is responsible for the diphoton excess at the LHC Run 2. In the so-called $ϕ$-portal DM models, after taking into account the LHC constraints and DM direct detection limits, we show that in the perturbative framework DM as either a SM singlet scalar or Dirac fermion can be allowed in a wide mass range between 400 GeV and 3 TeV. The DM can be directly detected in SM multi-jets and missing energy.
We construct a model containing a viable dark matter candidate, in the framework of left-right symmetry, which can explain both width and cross-section of the observed 750 GeV diphoton excess at the LHC. We introduce a fermion quintuplet whose neutral component can be a possible dark matter candidate, whereas the charged components enhance the loop induced coupling of a 750 GeV singlet scalar with a pair of photons. We study the photo-production of the singlet scalar and its various decay modes, successfully addressing both the ATLAS and the CMS diphoton excess.
In this paper, we study the recent 750 GeV diphoton excess in the Hill Model with vector-like fermions, in which the singlet-like Higgs boson is chosen as 750 GeV resonance and is mainly produced by the gluon fusion through vector-like top and bottom quarks. Meanwhile its diphoton decay rate is greatly enhanced by the vector-like lepton. Under the current experimental and theoretical constraints, we present the viable parameter space that fits the 750 GeV diphoton signal strength at 13 TeV LHC. We find that the heavier vector-like fermion masses are, the smaller mixing angle $θ$ is required. T…
In light of the recent 750 GeV diphoton excesses reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we investigate the possibility of explaining this excess using the Minimal Dilaton Model. We find that this model is able to explain the observed excess with the presence of additional top partner(s), with same charge as the top quark, but with mass in the TeV region. First, we constrain model parameters using in addition to the 750 GeV diphoton signal strength, precision electroweak tests, single top production measurements, as well as Higgs signal strength data collected in the earlier runs of the …
We have considered the di-photon production with unparticle at LHC. The contributions of spin-0 and spin-2 unparticle to the di-photon production are studied in the invariant mass and other kinematical distributions, along with their dependencies on the model dependent parameters. The signal corresponding to the unparticle is significant for moderate coupling constant values.
In light of the significant progress of the LHC to determine the properties of the Higgs boson, we investigate the capability of the Manohar-Wise model in explaining the Higgs data. This model extends the SM by one family of color-octet and isospin-doublet scalars, and it can sizably alter the coupling strengths of the Higgs boson with gluons and photons. We first examine the current constraints on the model, which are from unitarity, the LHC searches for the scalars and the electroweak precision data (EWPD).In implementing the unitarity constraint, we use the properties of the SU(3) group to …
The recent reported 750 GeV diphoton excess at the 13 TeV LHC is explained in the framework of effective field theory assuming the diphoton resonance is a scalar (pseudoscalar) particle. It is found that the large production rate and the broad width of this resonance are hard to simultaneously explain if only visible final states are considered. Therefore an invisible decay channel to dark matter (DM) is strongly favored by the diphoton excess with a broad width, given a large coupling of the new scalar to DM. We set constraints on the parameter space in this scenario using the results from LH…
In the quasi-inert Higgs doublet model, we study the LHC diphoton rate for a standard model-like Higgs boson and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron. Taking into account the constraints from the vacuum stability, unitarity, electroweak precision tests, flavor physics and the related experimental data of top quark, we find that compared with the standard model prediction, the diphoton rate of Higgs boson at LHC can be enhanced due to the light charged Higgs contributions, while the measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron can be explained to within $1…
We propose a hypothetical heavy leptonium, the scalar bound state of an exotic lepton-antilepton pair, as a candidate for the recent 750 GeV resonance in the early LHC Run 2 data. Such a para-leptonium is dominantly produced via photon-photon fusion at the LHC and decays into a photon pair with a significant branching fraction. In addition, our model predicts a companion spin-1 ortho-leptonium bound state, which can decay to $W^+W^-$, $f\bar{f}$ and three photons. Under the LHC and the electroweak precision observables bounds, we find that the observed excess of 750 GeV diphoton events can be …
Interpreting the diphoton mass excesses near 750~GeV reported by ATLAS and CMS as pseudoscalar gluinonia, bound states of two gluinos, we perform a scan in Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetry parameter space, fixing $m_{\tilde{g}}\approx 380$~GeV and identifying an experimentally viable point. We generate events with this point, perform fast simulation, and carry out an analysis modeled on the ATLAS search which reproduces features of the diphoton excess. This interpretation requires an enhancement of the signal strength above the nominal rate found in the literature and neglecting the gaugino mass …
Motivated by what is possibly the first sign of new physics seen at the LHC, the diphoton excess at $750$ GeV in ATLAS and CMS, we present a model that provides naturally the necessary ingredients to explain the resonance. The simplest phenomenological explanation for the diphoton excess requires a new scalar state, $X(750)$, as well as additional vector-like (VL) fermions introduced in an ad-hoc way in order to enhance its decays into a pair of photons and/or increase its production cross-section. We show that the requiered VL quarks and their couplings can emerge naturally from a complete fr…
In this paper we study the direct production of the diphoton resonance $X$ which has been suggested by 2015 data at the LHC, in $e^+e^-\to Xγ/XZ$ processes at the ILC. We derive an analytic expression for the scattering amplitudes of these processes, and present a comprehensive analysis for determining the properties of $X$ at the ILC. A realistic simulation study for $e^+e^-\to Xγ$ is performed based on the full detector simulation to demonstrate the capabilities of the ILC experiment. Complementary to the searches at the LHC, prospects of the measurement of the absolute values of production …
We consider direct diphoton production in hadron collisions. We compute the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD radiative corrections at the fully-differential level. Our calculation is based on the q_T subtraction formalism and it is implemented in a parton level Monte Carlo program, which allows the user to apply arbitrary kinematical cuts on the final-state photons and the associated jet activity, and to compute the corresponding distributions in the form of bin histograms. We present selected numerical results related to Higgs boson searches and diphoton studies performed at the LHC a…

We propose that the possible 750 GeV diphoton excess can be explained in the color-octet neutrino mass model extended with a scalar singlet $Φ$. The model generally contains $N_s$ species of color-octet, electroweak doublet scalars $S$ and $N_f$ species of color-octet, electroweak triplet $χ$ or singlet $ρ$ fermions. While both scalars and fermions contribute to the production of $Φ$ through gluon fusion, only the charged members induce the diphoton decay of $Φ$. The diphoton rate can be significantly enhanced due to interference between the scalar and fermion loops. We show that the diphoton …
Magnetic monopoles have been a subject of interest since Dirac established the relation between the existence of monopoles and charge quantization. The intense experimental search carried thus far has not met with success. The Large Hadron Collider is reaching energies never achieved before allowing the search for exotic particles in the TeV mass range. In a continuing effort to discover these rare particles we propose here other ways to detect them. We study the observability of monopoles and monopolium, a monopole-antimonopole bound state, at the Large Hadron Collider in the $γγ$ channel for…
The existence of dark matter (DM) and the origin of the baryon asymmetry are persistent indications that the SM is incomplete. More recently, the ATLAS and CMS experiments have observed an excess of diphoton events with invariant mass of about 750 GeV. One interpretation of this excess is decays of a new spin-0 particle with a sizable diphoton partial width, e.g. induced by new heavy weakly charged particles. These are also key ingredients in models cogenerating asymmetric DM and baryons via sphaleron interactions and an initial particle asymmetry. We explore what consequences the new scalar m…
We study models with heavy exotics that account for the LHC $750$ GeV diphoton excess in light of current vector-like quark bounds. Utilizing only exotics that may appear in three-stack and four-stack D-brane models, we show that a narrow width diphoton excess can be accounted for while evading existing bounds if multiple exotics are added, with vector-like leptons of mass $M_L\lesssim 375$ GeV and vector-like quarks with masses up to $\simeq 3$ TeV. However, a large width $(Γ/M \sim 0.06)$, as suggested by the ATLAS data, cannot be easily accommodated in this framework. Renormalization group …
We examine the observed diphoton excess at 750 GeV in the framework of constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (cMSSM). The consistency of cMSSM with the discovery of a 125 GeV Higgs boson and PLANCK/WMAP data for dark matter relic density (RD) demands large mixing in the scalar top (stop) sector and consequently, the existence of a light stop quasi-degenerate with the lightest neutralino. Small decay width due to kinematic and loop suppression of such a stop allows for the existence of stop-antistop bound states (stoponia). Identifying the particular part of cMSSM parameter space co…
We propose a simple model accommodating the reported 750 GeV diphoton excess seen in the first 13-TeV run of the LHC. It leads to testable predictions, in particular for di-lepton production, at higher integrated luminosity. We append to the minimal standard model a new gauge sector with its own SU(2) symmetry group. A new complex doublet scalar field provides mass for the new vectors and describes the 750-GeV resonance. An adequate rate for the diphoton signals, with resonant production via photon fusion, requires the VEV of the new scalar field to be somewhat less than the electroweak scale.…
In this paper we show that the diphoton mass spectrum in proton-proton collisions at the LHC is sensitive to the top quark flavor changing neutral current in the vertices of $tuγ$ and $tcγ$. The diphoton mass spectrum measured by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb$^{-1}$ is used as an example to set limits on these FCNC couplings. It is also shown that the angular distribution of the diphotons is sensitive to anomalous $tuγ$ and $tcγ$ couplings and it is a powerful tool to probe any value of the branching fraction of top qu…
We propose that the SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1) (aka G221) models could provide us a 750 GeV scalar resonance that may account for the diphoton excess observed at the LHC while satisfying present collider constraints. The neutral component of the $SU(2)_R$ scalar multiplet can be identified as the 750 GeV scalar. In the lepto-phobic and fermio-phobic G221 models the new charged gauge boson W' could be light, and we find that the diphoton decay width could be dominated by the loop contribution from the $W'$. To initiate gluon fusion production, it is necessary to extend the G221 symmetry to the Pati-S…
The hadroproduction of prompt isolated photon pairs at high energies is studied in the NLO* framework of the Parton Reggeization Approach. The real part of the NLO corrections is computed, and the procedure for the subtraction of double counting between real parton emissions in the hard-scattering matrix element and unintegrated PDF is constructed for the amplitudes with Reggeized quarks in the initial state. The matrix element of the important NNLO subprocess RR->2gamma with full dependence on the transverse momenta of the initial-state Reggeized gluons is obtained. We compare obtained numeri…
The chiral anomaly provides a smoking-gun evidence of a new confining gauge theory. Motivated by a reported event excess in a diphoton invariant mass distribution at the LHC, we discuss a scenario that a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone (pNG) boson of a new QCD-like theory is produced by gluon fusion and decays into a pair of the standard model gauge bosons. Despite the strong dynamics, the production cross section and the decay widths are determined by anomaly matching condition. The excess can be explained by the pNG boson with mass of around 750 GeV. The model also predicts exotic hadrons such as a c…
We study Higgs production and decay from TeV scale string balls in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 14 TeV at LHC. We present the results of total cross section of diphotons, invariant mass distribution of the diphotons and $p_T$ distribution of the diphotons and $ZZ$ pairs from Higgs from string balls at LHC. We find that the invariant mass distribution of diphotons from Higgs from string balls is not very sensitive to the increase in diphoton invariant mass. We find that for string mass scale $M_s$=2.5 TeV, which is the lower limit of the string mass scale set by the recent CMS collaboration …
The ATLAS and CMS experiments have recently claimed discovery of a Higgs boson-like particle at ~5 sigma confidence and are beginning to test the Standard Model predictions for its production and decay. In a variety of supersymmetric models, a neutralino NLSP can decay dominantly to the Higgs and the LSP. In natural SUSY models, a light third generation squark decaying through this chain can lead to large excess Higgs production while evading existing BSM searches. Such models can be observed at the 8 TeV LHC in channels exploiting the rare diphoton decays of the Higgs produced in the cascade …
A fully differential calculation in perturbative quantum chromodynamics is presented for the production of massive photon pairs at hadron colliders. All next-to-leading order perturbative contributions from quark-antiquark, gluon-(anti)quark, and gluon-gluon subprocesses are included, as well as all-orders resummation of initial-state gluon radiation valid at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. The region of phase space is specified in which the calculation is most reliable. Good agreement is demonstrated with data from the Fermilab Tevatron, and predictions are made for more detaile…
