The existence of dark matter (DM) and the origin of the baryon asymmetry are persistent indications that the SM is incomplete. More recently, the ATLAS and CMS experiments have observed an excess of diphoton events with invariant mass of about 750 GeV. One interpretation of this excess is decays of a new spin-0 particle with a sizable diphoton partial width, e.g. induced by new heavy weakly charged particles. These are also key ingredients in models cogenerating asymmetric DM and baryons via sphaleron interactions and an initial particle asymmetry. We explore what consequences the new scalar may have for models of asymmetric DM that attempt to account for the similarity of the dark and visible matter abundances.
We point out that the diphoton excess at about 750 GeV recently discovered by the LHC experiments can be explained within supersymmetric models with low scale supersymmetry breaking with sgoldstino as a natural candidate. We discuss phenomenological consequences of this scenario describing possible signatures to test this hypothesis.
We propose an supersymmetric explanation of the diphoton excess in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with the leptonic R-parity violation. Where the sneutrino serves as the 750 GeV resonance and produced through quark anti-quark annihilation. With introducing appropriate trilinear soft parameters, we show that the diphoton branching ratio is significantly enhanced compared with the conventional MSSM. The parameter space favored by diphoton excess strongly indicates the mass of smuon and stau fall into the range $375-410$ (375-480) GeV, which depending on the electroweakino masses. In a…
We investigate the parameter space of a model which extends next to minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with the vectorlike (VL) particles. We find that the $10+\overline{10}$ model can explain the possible diphoton excess recently revealed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, although the predicted signal strength is a little smaller than the observed one.
We construct a model containing a viable dark matter candidate, in the framework of left-right symmetry, which can explain both width and cross-section of the observed 750 GeV diphoton excess at the LHC. We introduce a fermion quintuplet whose neutral component can be a possible dark matter candidate, whereas the charged components enhance the loop induced coupling of a 750 GeV singlet scalar with a pair of photons. We study the photo-production of the singlet scalar and its various decay modes, successfully addressing both the ATLAS and the CMS diphoton excess.
Recently, the CMS and ATLAS collaborations have reported a diphoton peak at 750 GeV in the RunII of LHC at 13 TeV. We assume that the heavy fourth generation quark doublet $z,~y$ with $380 $GeV mass, and the width of $z,t$ is much less $b$ quark. Then we show that the contributions of the $(z \bar z+y \bar y)/\sqrt{2}$ bound state $η_{zy}(1S)$ to the diphoton measurements through $σ(pp\to η_{zy}(1s)\to γγ) $ are $ 5.6^{+5.6}_{-2.8} {\rm fb}$ at $\sqrt S=13$ TeV. They are constant with the 750 GeV diphoton excess measured by the CMS ant ATLAS collaborations.
The excess seen in the diphoton channel at around 750 GeV by both ATLAS and CMS has caused a great deal of excitement in the particle physics community. However, there has recently been much discussion about uncertainties in the significance of the peak seen by the ATLAS experiment. In this note, we aim to estimate this significance using a range of possible parametrisations for the smooth diphoton background. We obtain a local significance close to that reported by ATLAS and further demonstrate that the significance of the excess is not substantially reduced when more complicated background f…
A resonance near 750 GeV has been observed at both the ATLAS and CMS experiments in its diphoton decay channel. We propose a possible interpretation based on a simplified model: a 750 GeV singlet scalar resonance, and a minimal stealth vector quark are introduced. At the LHC, the scalar is produced through gluon fusion, and subsequently decays to diphoton final state. The light stealth quarks could enhance the diphoton rate significantly, while still keeping other channels below the current LHC search limits. We find that the stealth quarks around 400 ~ 500 GeV with its coupling to scalar arou…
It is shown that the 750 GeV diphoton excess can be explained in extensions of Two-Higgs-Doublet Models that do not involve large multiplicities of new electromagnetically charged states. The key observation is that at moderate and large $\tanβ$ the total decay width of the 750 GeV Higgs is strongly reduced as compared to the Standard Model. This allows for much more economical choices of new states that enhance the diphoton signal to fit the data. In particular, it is shown that one family of vector-like quarks and leptons with SM charges is enough to explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess. More…
We provide a possible explanation of a 750 GeV diphoton excess recently reported by both the ATLAS and CMS collaborations in the context of phenomenological spin-2 resonance scenarios, where the independent effective couplings of the resonance with gluons, quarks and photons are considered. We find a parameter region where the excess can be accounted for without conflicting with dijet constraints. We also show that the kinematical distributions might help to determine the couplings to gluons and quarks.
The recent reported 750 GeV diphoton excess at the 13 TeV LHC is explained in the framework of effective field theory assuming the diphoton resonance is a scalar (pseudoscalar) particle. It is found that the large production rate and the broad width of this resonance are hard to simultaneously explain if only visible final states are considered. Therefore an invisible decay channel to dark matter (DM) is strongly favored by the diphoton excess with a broad width, given a large coupling of the new scalar to DM. We set constraints on the parameter space in this scenario using the results from LH…
The ATLAS and CMS experiments at LHC observe small excesses of diphoton events with invariant mass around 750 GeV. Here we study the possibility of nearly parity degenerate and vector-scalar degenerate spectra as well as composite dynamics in 2 scenarios for explaining the excess: Production of a pseudo-scalar via gluon or photon fusion or via decay of a parent particle together with soft additional final states. We discuss possible underlying realizations of the scenarios motivated by dynamical models of electroweak symmetry breaking (without new coloured states) and fermion masses.
We propose that the sbino, the scalar partner of a Dirac bino can explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed by ATLAS and CMS . We analyze a model in which the sbino couples to pairs of Standard Model (SM) gauge bosons. We analyze an effective operator model, as well as a completion in which the sbino couples to pairs of gauge bosons through loops of heavy sfermions. We find that the sbino may be given an appreciable decay width through tree level coupling in the Higgs or Higgsino sector and additionally fit the 750 GeV excess by considering gluon fusion processes with decay to diphotons.
We examine the observed diphoton excess at 750 GeV in the framework of constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (cMSSM). The consistency of cMSSM with the discovery of a 125 GeV Higgs boson and PLANCK/WMAP data for dark matter relic density (RD) demands large mixing in the scalar top (stop) sector and consequently, the existence of a light stop quasi-degenerate with the lightest neutralino. Small decay width due to kinematic and loop suppression of such a stop allows for the existence of stop-antistop bound states (stoponia). Identifying the particular part of cMSSM parameter space co…
We propose a possible explanation of the recent diphoton excess reported by ATLAS and CMS collaborations, at around 750 GeV diphoton invariant mass, within the framework of $E_{6}$ motivated Alternative Left-Right Symmetric Model (ALRSM), which is capable of addressing the $B$ decay anomalies in the flavor sector, the $eejj$ and $e$ missing $p_{T}jj$ excesses reported by CMS in run 1 of LHC and has the feature of high scale leptogenesis. We find that gluon-gluon fusion can give the observed production rate of the 750 GeV resonance, $\tilde{n}$, through a loop of scalar leptoquarks ($\tilde{h}^…
We propose to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in a typical topflavor seesaw model. The new resonance X can be identified as a CP-even scalar emerging from a certain bi-doublet Higgs field. Such a scalar can couple to charged scalars, fermions as well as heavy gauge bosons predicted by the model, and consequently all of the particles contribute to the diphoton decay mode of the X. Numerical analysis indicates that the model can predict the central value of the diphoton excess without contradicting any constraints from 8 TeV LHC, and among the constraints, the tightest one comes from the Z…
We propose the left-right models based on SU(3)_C\otimes SU(M)_L \otimes SU(N)_R \otimes U(1)_X gauge symmetry for (M,N)=(3,3), (2,3), and (3,2) that address the 750 GeV diphoton excess recently reported by the LHC. The fermion contents are minimally introduced, and the generation number must match the fundamental color number to cancel anomalies and ensure QCD asymptotic freedom. The diphoton excess arises from the field that breaks the left-right symmetry spontaneously in the first model, while for the last models it emerges as an explicit violation of the left-right symmetry. The neutrino m…
A resonance in the diphoton channel with invariant mass $m_{γγ} = 750$ GeV was claimed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the run-2 LHC with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. In this paper, we explain this diphoton excess as a pseudo-scalar singlet, which is produced at the LHC through gluon fusion with exotic scalar quarks running in the loop. We point out the scalar singlet might trigger a two-step electroweak phase transition, which can be strongly first oder. By assuming there are CP violations associated with interactions of the scalar quarks, the model is found to be able to generate adequate baryo…
Vector leptoquarks provide an elegant solution to a series of anomalies and at the same time generate naturally light neutrino masses through their mixing with the standard model Higgs boson. We present a simple Froggatt-Nielsen model to accommodate the B physics anomalies $R_K$ and $R_D$, neutrino masses, and the $750$ GeV diphoton excess in one cohesive framework adding only two vector leptoquarks and two singlet scalar fields to the standard model field content.
The recently reported diphoton excess at the LHC may imply the existence of a new resonance with a mass of about 750 GeV which couples to photons via loops of new charged particles. In this letter, we study the possibility to test such models at the ILC, paying attention to the new charged particles responsible for the diphoton decay of the resonance. We show that they affect the scattering processes $e^+e^- \to f\bar{f}$ (with $f$ denoting Standard Model fermions) at the ILC, which makes it possible to indirectly probe the new charged particles even if they are out of the kinematical reach. W…
ATLAS and CMS recently released the first results of searches for diphoton resonances in 13 TeV data, revealing a modest excess at an invariant mass of approximately 750 GeV. We find that it is generically possible that a singlet scalar resonance is the origin of the excess while avoiding all other constraints. We highlight some of the implications of this model and how compatible it is with certain features of the experimental results. In particular, we find that the very large total width of the excess is difficult to explain with loop-level decays alone, pointing to other interesting bounds…
Motivated by the possible diphoton excess around $750~\rm{GeV}$ observed by ATLAS and CMS at $13~\rm{TeV}$, we consider a coloron model from $\rm{SU}(3)_1 \times \rm{SU}(3)_2$ spontaneously breaking to the Standard Model $\rm{SU}(3)_C$. A colored massive vector boson is resonantly produced by $q \bar q $ in proton collision, followed by a colored scalar cascade decay. This process gives two photons and one jet in the final states. And the kinetic edge of the two photons can be an interpretation of the diphoton excess, while satisfying the dijet, $\rm{t}\bar{t}$, jet+photon resonance constraint…
We discuss an extended scalar model which explains the recent results of diphoton excess at 750 GeV at LHC Run II experiments. An additional singlet scalar boson with the mass of 750 GeV, which couples to top quarks via a dimension five operator, is produced via gluon fusion and decays into two photons via loop contributions of a number of (multiply) charged scalar bosons. Origin of such a dimension five operator would be, for example, in the context of composite Higgs models. The excess can be explained without contradicting the data from LHC Run I and also theoretical consistencies such as p…
We study models with heavy exotics that account for the LHC $750$ GeV diphoton excess in light of current vector-like quark bounds. Utilizing only exotics that may appear in three-stack and four-stack D-brane models, we show that a narrow width diphoton excess can be accounted for while evading existing bounds if multiple exotics are added, with vector-like leptons of mass $M_L\lesssim 375$ GeV and vector-like quarks with masses up to $\simeq 3$ TeV. However, a large width $(Γ/M \sim 0.06)$, as suggested by the ATLAS data, cannot be easily accommodated in this framework. Renormalization group …
In this paper we explain the diphoton excess in the invariant mass M $\approx$ 750 GeV , claimed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the run-2 LHC, as the signal of a scalar singlet in a string inspired exceptional supersymmetric standard model (ESSM). The scalar singlet might play a rule in the spontaneous breaking of the $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry of the ESSM and couples to diphoton and/or gluon pair with the help of exotic quarks and Higgs-like supermultiplets, which are contained in the fundamental representation of the $E_6$ group. The model might give rise to a large enough producti…
In this paper, we interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in the Zee-Babu extension of the two-Higgs-doublet model by introducing a top partner ($T$)/bottom partner ($B$). In the alignment limit, the 750 GeV resonance is identified as the heavy CP-even Higgs boson ($H$), which can be sizably produced via the QCD process $pp \to T\bar{T}$ or $pp \to B\bar{B}$ followed by the decay $T\to Ht$ or $B \to Hb$. The diphoton decay rate of $H$ is greatly enhanced by the charged singlet scalars predicted in the Zee-Babu extension and the total width of $H$ can be as large as 7 GeV. Under the current LHC c…
In the context of gauge-Higgs unification scenario in a 5-dimensional flat spacetime, we investigate Higgs boson production via gluon fusion and its diphoton decay mode at the LHC. We show that the signal strength of the Higgs diphoton decay mode observed at ATLAS and CMS, which is considerably larger than the Standard Model expectation, can be explained by a simple gauge-Higgs unification model with color-singlet bulk fermions to which a half-periodic boundary condition is assigned. The bulk fermions also play a crucial role in reproducing the observed Higgs boson mass around 125 GeV.
We revisit the sgoldstino interpretation of the diphoton excess in the context of gauge mediation. While the bound on the gluino mass might seem to make the sgoldstino contribution to the diphoton excess unobservable, we show that the interpretation is viable in a thin, near critical region of the parameter space. This regime gives rise to drastic departures from the standard gauge mediation picture. While the fermion messengers lie in the (10-100) TeV range, some scalar messengers are significantly lighter and are responsible for the sgoldstino production and decay. Their effective coupling t…
The LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS have reported an excess in the diphoton spectrum at \sim 750 GeV. At the same time the motivation for Supersymmetry (SUSY) remains unbowed. Consequently, we review briefly the proposals to explain this excess in SUSY, focusing on "pure" (N)MSSM solutions. We then review in more detail a proposal to realize this excess within the NMSSM. In this particular scenario a Higgs boson with mass around 750 GeV decays to two light pseudo-scalar Higgs bosons. Via mixing with the pion these pseudo-scalars decay into a pair of highly collimated photons, which are identifie…
We explore the possibility to explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess recently measured by ATLAS and CMS collaborations in terms of a massive spin-2 particle. In particular, we consider the case in which the top-quark loops can give the similar amplitudes as the tree-level contributions to the diphoton and digluon channels. Such a scenario can be naturally realized in the generalized warped extra dimension models. As a result, the parameter space favored by the diphoton data implies that the top-quark loop contribution can compete to and even dominate over the tree-level amplitude in the spin-2 pa…
We suggest that the recently observed diphoton excess at 750 GeV comes from a quasi-degenerate bunch of gauge singlet scalars produced and decaying through one or more vector-like fermions. This explains the broad nature of the resonance, even though the decay is loop-mediated. At the same time, the model keeps the new Yukawa couplings in the perturbative region, which is necessary for the stability of the potential.
We discuss the possibility of interpreting the 125 GeV scalar boson and the 750 GeV diphoton excess recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS experiments as a Higgs-dominated and a radion-dominated states respectively in a stabilized brane-world model. It is shown that in the simplest variant of the model, where only the gravitational degrees of freedom propagate in the bulk, the production cross section of the radion-dominated state with mass 750 GeV turns out to be too small in the allowed region of the model parameter space for explaining the nature of the excess in this approach.
We propose that the possible 750 GeV diphoton excess can be explained in the color-octet neutrino mass model extended with a scalar singlet $Φ$. The model generally contains $N_s$ species of color-octet, electroweak doublet scalars $S$ and $N_f$ species of color-octet, electroweak triplet $χ$ or singlet $ρ$ fermions. While both scalars and fermions contribute to the production of $Φ$ through gluon fusion, only the charged members induce the diphoton decay of $Φ$. The diphoton rate can be significantly enhanced due to interference between the scalar and fermion loops. We show that the diphoton …
We propose an NMSSM scenario that can explain the excess in the diphoton spectrum at 750 GeV recently observed by ATLAS and CMS. We show that in a certain limit with a very light pseudoscalar one can reproduce the experimental results without invoking exotic matter. The 750 GeV excess is produced by two resonant heavy Higgs bosons with masses ~750 GeV, that subsequently decay to two light pseudoscalars. Each of these decays to collimated photon pairs that appear as a single photon in the electromagnetic calorimeter. A mass gap between heavy Higgses mimics a large width of the 750 GeV peak. The…
We propose a simple model accommodating the reported 750 GeV diphoton excess seen in the first 13-TeV run of the LHC. It leads to testable predictions, in particular for di-lepton production, at higher integrated luminosity. We append to the minimal standard model a new gauge sector with its own SU(2) symmetry group. A new complex doublet scalar field provides mass for the new vectors and describes the 750-GeV resonance. An adequate rate for the diphoton signals, with resonant production via photon fusion, requires the VEV of the new scalar field to be somewhat less than the electroweak scale.…
The latest LHC data suggest an intriguing excess at $m_{γγ} = 750$ GeV which apparently requires an explanation from the beyond standard model physics. In this note we explore the possibility for this signal to arise from a top-pion in the Top Triangle Moose model which can be viewed as a dimensional-deconstruction version of the top-color assisted technicolor model. We demonstrate that the observed excess can be accommodated by and has important implications for this interesting model.
In this paper we explain the 750 GeV diphoton resonance observed at the run-2 LHC as a scalar singlet $S$, that plays a key rule in generating tiny but nonzero Majorana neutrino masses. The model contains four electroweak singlets: two leptoquarks, a singly charged scalar and a neutral scalar $S$. Majorana neutrino masses might be generated at the two-loop level as $S$ get nonzero vacuum expectation value. $S$ can be produced at the LHC through the gluon fusion and decays into diphoton at the one-loop level with charged scalars running in the loop. The model fits perfectly with a wide width of…
Recently, both ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have announced their observations of an excess of diphoton events around the invariant mass of $750~{\rm GeV}$ with a local significance of $3.6σ$ and $2.6σ$, respectively. In this paper, we interpret the diphoton excess as the on-shell production of a real singlet scalar in the $pp \to S \to γγ$ channel. To accommodate the observed production rate, we further introduce a vector-like fermion $F$, which is carrying both color and electric charges. The viable regions of model parameters are explored for this simp…
The evidence for a new singlet scalar particle from the 750 GeV diphoton excess, and the absence of any other signal of new physics at the LHC so far, suggest the existence of new coloured scalars. To study this possibility, we propose a supersymmetry inspired simplified model, extending the Standard Model with a singlet scalar and with heavy scalar fields carrying both colour and electric charges -- the `squarks'. To allow the latter to decay, and to generate the dark matter of the Universe, we also add a neutral fermion to the particle content. We show that this model provides a two-paramete…
We investigate a possibility for explaining the recently announced 750\,GeV diphoton excess by the ATLAS and the CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in a model with multiple doubly charged particles, which was originally suggested for explaining tiny neutrino masses through a three-loop effect in a natural way. The enhanced radiatively generated effective coupling of a new singlet scalar $S$ with diphoton with multiple charged particles in the loop enlarges the production rate of $S$ in $pp\to S+X$ via photon fusion process and also the decay width $Γ(S\to γγ)$ even without assuming a tree level p…
The LHC diphoton excess 750 GeV is discussed in a string-inspired standard-like model. Precisely, a singlet scalar-extended SM from a vacua of four stacks of intersecting D6-branes giving rise to a large gauge symmetry is considered. Besides its relevant couplings to the SM sector, the involved scales allow for a scalar mass near to the reported diphoton excess.
The ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC have found significant excess in the diphoton invariant mass distribution near 750 GeV. We interpret this excess in a predictive nonsupersymmetric SU(5) grand unified framework with a singlet scalar and light adjoint fermions. The 750 GeV resonance is identified as a gauge singlet scalar. Both its production and decays are induced by 24 dimensional adjoint fermions predicted within SU(5). The adjoint fermions are assumed to be odd under $Z_2$ symmetry which forbids their direct coupling to the standard model fermions. We show that the observed diphoton …
It has been proposed that the observed diphoton excess at 750 GeV could be explained within the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model via resonantly produced stop bound states. We reanalyze this scenario critically and extend previous work to include the constraints from the stability of the electroweak vacuum and from the decays of the stoponium into a pair of Higgs bosons. It is shown that the interesting regions of parameter space with a light stop and Higgs of the desired mass are ruled out by these constraints. This conclusion is not affected by the presence of the bound state…
We discuss a possible explanation of the recently observed diphoton excess at around 750 GeV as seen by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. We calculate the cross section of the diphoton signature in 2-Higgs Doublet Models with the addition of a real isospin scalar multiplet without a vacuum expectation value, where a neutral component of such a representation can be a dark matter candidate. We find that the branching fraction of an additional CP-even Higgs boson $H$ from the doublet fields into the diphoton mode can be significantly enhanced, by up to a factor of $10^3…
One of the most exciting explanations advanced for the recent diphoton excess found by ATLAS and CMS is in terms of sgoldstino decays: a signal of low-energy supersymmetry-breaking scenarios. The sgoldstino, a scalar, couples directly to gluons and photons, with strength related to gaugino masses, that can be of the right magnitude to explain the excess. However, fitting the suggested resonance width, Gamma ~ 45 GeV, is not so easy. In this paper we explore efficient possibilities to enhance the sgoldstino width, via the decay into two Higgses, two Higgsinos and through mixing between the sgol…
A diphoton excess with an invariant mass of about 750 GeV has been recently reported by both ATLAS and CMS experiments at LHC. While the simplest interpretation requires the resonant production of a 750 GeV (pseudo)scalar, here we consider an alternative setup, with an additional heavy parent particle which decays into a pair of 750 GeV resonances. This configuration improves the agreement between the 8 TeV and 13 TeV data. Moreover, we include a dark matter candidate in the form of a Majorana fermion which interacts through the 750 GeV portal. The invisible decays of the light resonance help …
We discuss a possibility to explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed at the LHC in a three-loop neutrino mass model which has a similar structure to the model by Krauss, Nasri and Trodden. Tiny neutrino masses are naturally generated by the loop effect of new particles with their couplings and masses to be of order 0.1-1 and TeV, respectively. The lightest right-handed neutrino, which runs in the three-loop diagram, can be a dark matter candidate. In addition, the deviation in the measured value of the muon anomalous magnetic moment from its prediction in the standard model can be compensa…
We explain the recent diphoton excesses around $750$ GeV by both ATLAS and CMS as a singlet scalar $Φ$ which couples to SM gluon and neutral gauge bosons only through higher dimensional operators. A natural explanation is that $Φ$ is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) which receives parity violation through anomaly if there exists a hidden strong dynamics. The singlet and other light pNGBs will decay into two SM gauge bosons and even serves as the meta-stable coloured states which can be probed in the future. By accurately measuring their relative decay and the total production rate in the …
A spin-two resonance would have couplings to the SM, suppressed via higher-dimensional operators. Therefore, a sizeable cross-section would indicate that the scale of additional new phenomena cannot be too far above the 750 GeV mark. Below I present some theoretical arguments to place the resonance in a wider framework: a manifestation of new extra-dimensions, or a glueball of a new strong sector. In each case, I identify some conditions the UV theory must satisfy to accommodate other experimental bounds. Based on those, I draw correlations with associated phenomena we expect to find in future…
We interpret the 750-760 GeV diphoton resonance as one or more of the spinless components of a singlet superfield arising from the three 27-dimensional representations of $E_6$ in F-theory, which also contain three copies of colour-triplet charge $\mp 1/3$ vector-like fermions $D_i,\bar{D}_i$ and inert Higgs doublets to which the singlets may couple. For definiteness we consider (without change) a model that was proposed some time ago which contains such states, as well as bulk exotics, leading to gauge coupling unification. The smoking gun prediction of the model is the existence of other sim…
We show that contrary to naive expectations the recently observed diphoton excess can be explained by a vector resonance, which decays to a photon and a light scalar $s$, followed by a decay of the scalar into two photons: $Z' \rightarrow γs \rightarrow 3 γ$. As the two photons from the scalar decay are highly boosted, the experimental signature is an apparent diphoton final state. In fact all the necessary ingredients are naturally present in $Z'$ models: Additional fermions with electroweak quantum numbers are required in order to render the theory anomaly free and naturally induce the requi…
We propose a new type of radiative neutrino model with a local hidden $U(1)$ symmetry, in which neutrino masses are induced at the three loop level, and discuss the muon anomalous magnetic moment, and dark matter candidates therein. By allowing the hypercharges larger than 3/2 for new fields that contribute to the neutrino masses and making them decay into the standard model fields appropriately, we introduce a lot of new particles with multiple electrical charges in a natural manner. As a by-product, we can accommodate the 750 GeV diphoton excess depending on the hypercharge quantum numbers o…
We study the implications of a possible unstable particle with mass $M_X<$ TeV for the Higgs stability, naturalness and inflation. We pay particular attention to the case $M_X\approx$ 750 GeV, suggested by recent results of ATLAS and CMS on diphoton final states, and work within the minimal model: we add to the Standard Model field content a pseudoscalar and a vector-like fermion carrying both color and electric charge. This can stabilize the electroweak vacuum without invoking new physics at very high energies, which would give an unnaturally large contribution to the Higgs mass. We also show…
We explore the possibility that the recently reported diphoton excess at ATLAS and CMS can be accommodated within a minimal extension of a left-right symmetric model. Our setup is able to simultaneously explain the Run 2 diphoton and Run 1 diboson excesses, while providing a standard thermal freeze-out of weak-scale dark matter. In this scenario, the 750 GeV neutral right-handed Higgs triplet is responsible for the diphoton excess. Interactions of this state with the neutral and charged components of dark matter multiplets provide the dominant mechanisms for production and decay. A striking si…
The evidence of a new scalar particle $X$ from the 750 GeV diphoton excess, and the absence of any other signal of new physics at the LHC so far suggest the existence of new colored scalars, which may be moderately light and thus can induce sizable $X g g$ and $X γγ$ couplings without resorting to very strong interactions. Motivated by this speculation, we extend the Manohar-Wise model by adding one gauge singlet scalar field. The resulting theory then predicts one singlet dominated scalar $ϕ$ as well as three kinds of color-octet scalars, which can mediate through loops the $ϕgg$ and $ϕγγ$ in…
We consider a charged scalar particle $χ$ of mass around 375 GeV charged under both $SU(3)_c$ and a new confining non-abelian gauge interaction. After pair production, these interactions confine the exotic scalar into non-relativistic bound states whose decays into photons can explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed at the LHC. Taking the new confining group to be $\mathrm{SU}(2)$, we find $χ$ must carry an electric charge of $Q \sim [\frac{1}{2}, 1]$ to fit the data. Interestingly, we find that pair production of the scalars and the subsequent formation of the bound state dominates over …
Motivated by the recent diphoton excess reported by both the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we provide a model-independent combination of diphoton results obtained at $\sqrt{s}=8$ and 13 TeV at the LHC. We consider resonant s-channel production of a spin-0 and spin-2 particle with a mass of 750 GeV that subsequently decays to two photons. The size of the excess reported by ATLAS appears to be in slight tension with other measurements under the spin-2 particle hypothesis.
We propose a new model for explaining the diphoton excess observed at the LHC. The uniqueness of our model is that this excess is being produced by photon-photon induced sub-process. The model includes an isospin $3/2$ scalar multiplet (having triply, doubly and singly charged scalars) at the electroweak (EW) scale to explain the observed neutrino masses via the effective dimension $7$ operator. The model also include a singlet scalar which is the di-photon resonance. The loop induced coupling of the singlet scalar with a pair of photons is enhanced due to contributions from multi-charged EW-s…
