We report an improved technique for diffuse foreground minimization from Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) maps using a new multi-phase iterative internal-linear-combination (ILC) approach in harmonic space. The new procedure consists of two phases. In phase 1, a diffuse foreground cleaned map is obtained by performing a usual ILC operation in the harmonic space in a single iteration over the desired portion of the sky. In phase 2, we obtain the final foreground cleaned map using an iterative ILC approach also in the harmonic space, however, now, during each iteration of foreground minimization, some of the regions of the sky that are not being cleaned in the current iteration, are replaced by the corresponding cleaned portions of the phase 1 cleaned map. The new ILC method nullifies a foreground leakage signal that is otherwise inevitably present in the old and usual harmonic space iterative ILC method. The new method is flexible to handle input frequency maps, irrespective of whether or not they initially have the same instrumental and pixel resolution, by bringing them to a common and maximum possible beam and pixel resolution at the beginning of the analysis. This dramatically reduces data redundancy and hence memory usage and computational cost. During the ILC weight calculation it avoids any need to deconvolve partial sky spherical harmonic coefficients by the beam and pixel window functions, which in strict mathematical sense, is not well-defined for azimuthally symmetric window functions. Using WMAP 9-year and Planck-2015 published frequency maps we obtain a pair of foreground cleaned CMB maps and CMB angular power spectrum. Our power spectrum match well with Planck-2015 results, with some difference. Finally, we show that the weights for ILC foreground minimization have an intrinsic characteristic that it tends to produce a statistically isotropic CMB map as well.
Recently, full sky maps from Planck have been made publicly available. In this paper, we do consistency tests for the three Planck CMB sky maps. We assume that the difference between two maps represents the contributions from systematics, noise, foregrounds and other sources, and that a precise representation of the Cosmic Microwave Background should be uncorrelated with it. We investigate the cross correlation in pixel space between the difference maps and the various Planck maps and find no significant correlations, in comparison to 10000 random Gaussian simulated maps. Additionally we inves…
The WMAP 7-year temperature maps have been re-analized to extract a CMB map and CMB power spectrum with reduced contamination by astrophysical foregrounds and noise. The method used is based on linear combinations of WMAP data and foreground templates, implemented on a decomposition of the observations onto a needlet frame. We obtain a clean CMB map with low contamination from foregrounds and noise, as well as a new estimate of the CMB temperature power spectrum. The latter is essentially compatible with the power spectrum published by the WMAP collaboration, although it is slightly but system…
In this paper we study one-dimensional sections of the maps of WMAP ILC and of the NVSS survey on scale lengths of 0.75, 3, 4.5, and 6.75 degrees and analyze the correlation properties of the sections. On these maps we identify the domains where the absolute value of the correlation coefficient exceeds 0.5. The catalog of such domains is presented. It is shown that the number of the domains agrees with the number of such domains on simulated maps and this fact may be indicative of just statistical agreement of the arrangement of the domains considered.
We study the alignments of the low multipoles of CMB anisotropies with specific directions in the sky (i.e. the dipole, the north Ecliptic pole, the north Galactic pole and the north Super Galactic pole). Performing $10^5$ random extractions we have found that: 1) separately quadrupole and octupole are mildly orthogonal to the dipole but when they are considered together, in analogy to \cite{Copi2006}, we find an unlikely orthogonality at the level of 0.8% C.L.; 2) the multipole vectors associated to $\ell=4$ are unlikely aligned with the dipole at $99.1 %$ C.L.; 3) the multipole vectors assoc…
We estimate Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarisation power spectra, and temperature-polarisation cross-spectra, from the 9-year data of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). Foreground cleaning is implemented using minimum variance linear combinations of the coefficients of needlet decompositions of sky maps for all WMAP channels, to produce maps for CMB temperature anisotropies (T-mode) and polarisation (E-mode and B-mode), for 9 different years of observation. The final power spectra are computed from averages of all possible cross-year power spectra obtained using foregroun…
For 2442 galaxies of the catalog, compiled based on the NED, SDSS, and CATS survey data with redshifts z, > 0.3 we conducted an analysis of the amplitude of temperature fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) in the points, corresponding to the direction to these objects. To this end, we used the ILC map from the WMAP mission seven-year data release. We have estimated the dipole component of the background and tested the hypothesis of Kashlinsky on the existence of a "dark bulk flow", determined for the estimated dipole component of the CMB WMAP by the value of the CMB anisotropy…
The method of correlation mapping on the full sphere is used to study the properties of the ILC map, as well as the dust and synchrotron background components. An anomalous correlation of the components with the ILC map in the main plane and in the poles of the ecliptic and equatorial coordinate systems was discovered. Apart from the bias, a dominant quadrupole contribution in the power spectrum of the mosaic correlation maps was found in the pixel correlation histogram. Various causes of the anomalous signal are discussed.
The `Internal Linear Combination' (ILC) component separation method has been extensively used on the data of the WMAP space mission, to extract a single component, the CMB, from the WMAP multifrequency data. We extend the ILC approach for reconstructing millimeter astrophysical emissions beyond the CMB alone. In particular, we construct a Constrained ILC to extract clean maps of both the CMB or the thermal Sunyaev Zeldovich (SZ) effect, with vanishing contamination from the other. The performance of the Constrained ILC is tested on simulations of Planck mission observations, for which we succe…
We analyze the alignment of the low multipoles (quadrupole and octupole) of various maps of the WMAP 5yr release: the CMB maps obtained with ILC and MCMC methods, the CMB map in the V band after foreground reduction, and, for comparison, the (not cleaned) V band map. We study how much this alignment is polluted by residuals on the Galactic region. Among the considered maps, the WMAP-ILC turns out to be the most clean map from the point of view of the proposed test. This result has been found studying the redistribution (due to the masking process) of each bin of the probability distribution fu…
In this work, we formalize a new technique to investigate joint posterior density of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) signal and its theoretical angular power spectrum given the observed data, using the global internal-linear-combination (ILC) method first proposed by Sudevan & Saha (2017). We implement the method on low resolution CMB maps observed by WMAP and Planck satellite missions, using Gibbs sampling, assuming that the detector noise is negligible on large angular scales of the sky. The main products of our analysis are best fit CMB cleaned map and its theoretical angular power spectr…
There is currently a debate over the existence of claimed statistical anomalies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB), recently confirmed in Planck data. Recent work has focussed on methods for measuring statistical significance, on masks and on secondary anisotropies as potential causes of the anomalies. We investigate simultaneously the method for accounting for masked regions and the foreground integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) signal. We search for trends in different years of WMAP CMB data with different mask treatments. We reconstruct the ISW field due to the 2 Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS…
The 'Internal Linear Combination' (ILC) component separation method has been extensively used to extract a single component, the CMB, from the WMAP multifrequency data. We generalise the ILC approach for separating other millimetre astrophysical emissions. We construct in particular a multidimensional ILC filter, which can be used, for instance, to estimate the diffuse emission of a complex component originating from multiple correlated emissions, such as the total emission of the Galactic interstellar medium. The performance of such generalised ILC methods, implemented on a needlet frame, is …
We extend the ILC method in harmonic space to include the error in its CMB estimate. This allows parameter estimation routines to take into account the effect of the foregrounds as well as the errors in their subtraction in conjunction with the ILC method. Our method requires the use of a model of the foregrounds which we do not develop here. The reduction of the foreground level makes this method less sensitive to unaccounted for errors in the foreground model. Simulations are used to validate the calculations and approximations used in generating this likelihood function.
Recovering the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) from WMAP data requires galactic foreground emissions to be accurately separated out. Most component separation techniques rely on second order statistics such as Internal Linear Combination (ILC) techniques. In this paper, we present a new WMAP 9-year CMB map, with 15 arcmin resolution, which is reconstructed using a recently introduced sparse component separation technique, coined Local Generalized Morphological Component Analysis (LGMCA). LGMCA emphasizes on the sparsity of the components to be retrieved in the wavelet domain. We show that al…
In this article we present a formalism to incorporate the partial-sky maps to the Gibbs ILC algorithm to estimate the joint posterior density of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) signal and the theoretical CMB angular power spectrum given the observed CMB maps. In order to generate the partial-sky maps we mask all the observed CMB maps provided by WMAP and Planck satellite mission using a Gaussian smoothed mask formed on the basis of thermal dust emissions in Planck 353 GHz map. The central galactic region from all the input maps is removed after the application of the smoothed mask. While…
We test the hemispherical power asymmetry of the WMAP 7-year low-resolution temperature and polarization maps. We consider two natural estimators for such an asymmetry and exploit our implementation of an optimal angular power spectrum estimator for all the six CMB spectra. By scanning the whole sky through a sample of 24 directions, we search for asymmetries in the power spectra of the two hemispheres, comparing the results with Monte Carlo simulations drawn from the WMAP 7-year best-fit model. Our analysis extends previous results to the polarization sector. The level of asymmetry on the ILC…
We propose a new internal linear combination (ILC) method in the pixel space, applicable on large angular scales of the sky, to estimate a foreground minimized Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature anisotropy map by incorporating prior knowledge about the theoretical CMB covariance matrix. Usual ILC method in pixel space, on the contrary, does not use any information about the underlying CMB covariance matrix. The new approach complements the usual pixel space ILC technique specifically at low multipole region, using global information available from theoretical CMB covariance matrix a…
In this paper we present a new method to estimate a foreground cleaned Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) map at a resolution of $1^\circ$ by minimizing the non-Gaussian properties of the cleaned map which arise dominantly due to diffuse foreground emission components from the Milky Way. We employ simple kurtosis statistic as the measure of non-Gaussian properties and perform a linear combination of 5 frequency maps provided by Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) in its 7 year data release in such a way that the cleaned map has a minimum kurtosis which leads to a non-Gaussianity minimiz…
A considerable effort has recently gone into the study of Gaussianity of cosmic microwave background (CMB) data. Among such attempts, there is one with two non-Gaussianity indicators, proposed by the authors, and used in a search for significant deviation from Gaussianity in the WMAP internal linear combination (ILC) and in the single frequency WMAP maps with the KQ75 mask. Here we extend and complement these results by performing a similar analysis for the de Oliveira-Costa and Tegmark (OT) WMAP three-year $KQ75$ masked map, in which the foreground is reduced through a different statistical c…
In this paper we estimate diffuse foreground minimized Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Stokes Q and U polarization maps based upon the fundamental concept of Gaussian nature of CMB and strong non-Gaussian nature of astrophysical polarized foregrounds using WMAP nine year published polarization maps. We excise regions of the sky that define position of the known point sources, regions that are strongly contaminated by either the detector noise or by the diffuse foregrounds or both, and then perform foreground minimizations over the surviving sky regions that constitute approximately $50\%$ of…
This paper provides full sky maps of foreground emission in all WMAP channels, with very low residual contamination from the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies and controlled level of instrumental noise. Foreground maps are obtained by subtraction of a properly filtered CMB map, obtained from linear combinations of needlet-based representations of all WMAP observations and of a 100-micron map. The error in the reconstructed foreground maps on large scales is significantly lower than the original error due to CMB contamination, while remaining of the order of the original WMAP noise…
The separation of emissions from different astrophysical processes is an important step towards the understanding of observational data. This topic of component separation is of particular importance in the observation of the relic Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, as performed by the WMAP satellite and the more recent Planck mission, launched May 14th, 2009 from Kourou and currently taking data. When performing any sort of component separation, some assumptions about the components must be used. One assumption that many techniques typically use is knowledge of the frequency scaling of on…
The anomaly against the Gaussianity in the WMAP data was alleged to be due to insufficient handling of beam asymmetries. In this paper we investigate this issue and develop a method to estimate the shape of the inflight effective beam, particularly the asymmetry and azimuthal orientation. We divide the whole map into square patches and exploit the information in the Fourier space. For patches containing bright extra-galactic point sources, we can directly estimate their shapes, from which the inflight effective beam manifests itself. For those without, we estimate the pattern via perturbing th…
We study the power asymmetry between even and odd multipoles in the multipolar expansion of CMB temperature data from WMAP, recently reported in the literature. We introduce an alternate statistic which probes this effect more sensitively. We find that the data is highly anomalous and consistently outside $2σ$ significance level in the whole multipole range $l=[2,101]$. We examine the possibility that this asymmetry may be caused by the foreground cleaning procedure or by residual foregrounds. By direct simulations, using the Planck Sky Model for foregrounds we rule out this possibility. We al…
We show that the popular ILC approach is unstable in respect to the division of the sample of map pixels to the set of ``homogeneous'' subsamples. For suitable choice of such subsamples we can obtain the restored CMB signal with amplitudes ranged from zero to the amplitudes of the observed signal. We propose approach which allows us to obtain reasonable estimates of $C_\ell$ at $\ell\leq 30$ and similar to WMAP $C_\ell$ for larger $\ell$. With this approach we reduce some anomalies of the WMAP results. In particular, our estimate of the quadrupole is well consistent to theoretical one, the eff…
The spectral variation of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) as observed by WMAP was tested using foreground reduced WMAP5 data, by producing subtraction maps at the 1$^\circ$ angular resolution between the two cosmological bands of V and W, for masked sky areas that avoid the Galactic disk. The resulting $V-W$ map revealed a non-acoustic signal over and above the WMAP5 pixel noise, with two main properties. Firstly, it possesses quadrupole power at the $\approx$ 1 $μK$ level which may be attributed to foreground residuals. Second, it fluctuates also at all values of $\ell >$ 2, especially …
Genetic Algorithm (GA) -- motivated by natural evolution -- is a robust method to estimate the global optimal solutions of problems involving multiple objective functions. In this article, for the first time, we apply GA to reconstruct the CMB temperature anisotropy map over large angular scales of the sky using (internal) linear combination (ILC) of the final-year WMAP and Planck satellite observations. To avoid getting trapped into a local minimum, we implement the GA with generous diversity in the populations by selecting pairs with diverse fitness coefficients and by introducing a small bu…
Residual error in calibration coefficients corresponding to observed CMB maps is an important issue while estimating a pure CMB signal. A component separation method, if these errors in the input foreground contaminated CMB maps are not properly taken into account, may lead to bias in the cleaned CMB map and estimated CMB angular power spectrum. But the inability to exactly determine the calibration coefficients corresponding to each observed CMB map from any CMB experiment makes it very difficult to incorporate their exact and actual values in a component separation analysis. Hence the effect…
In these proceedings, we discuss the extraction, in WMAP 5 year data, of a clean CMB map, of foreground emission (dominated by emission of the interstellar medium of our galaxy), and of the tiny signal from Sunyaev Zel'dovich effect in the direction of known galaxy clusters. The implementation of an Internal Linear Combination method locally in both pixel and harmonic space, with the use of a decomposition of WMAP maps onto a frame of spherical needlets, permits to extract a full sky CMB map, with good accuracy even in regions close to the galactic plane. Proper subtraction of this estimated C…
The first and third year data releases from the WMAP provide evidence of an anomalous Cold Spot (CS) at galactic latitude b=-57deg and longitude l=209deg. We have examined the properties of the CS in some detail in order to assess its cosmological significance. We have performed a cluster analysis of the local extrema in the CMB signal to show that the CS is actually associated with a large group of extrema rather than just one. In the light of this we have re-examined the properties of the WMAP ILC and co-added "cleaned" WCM maps, which have previously been used for the analysis of the proper…
(Abridged)Motivated by the recent results of Hansen et al. (2008) concerning a noticeable hemispherical power asymmetry in the WMAP data on small angular scales, we revisit the dipole modulated signal model introduced by Gordon et al. (2005). This model assumes that the true CMB signal consists of a Gaussian isotropic random field modulated by a dipole, and is characterized by an overall modulation amplitude, A, and a preferred direction, p. Previous analyses of this model has been restricted to very low resolution due to computational cost. In this paper, we double the angular resolution, and…
A detection or non detection of primordial non--Gaussianity (NG) by using the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) is a possible way to break the degeneracy of early universe models. Since a single statistical estimator hardly can be sensitive to all possible forms of NG which may be present in the data, it is important to use different statistical estimators to study NG in CMB. Recently, two new large-angle NG indicators based on skewness and kurtosis of spherical caps or spherical cells of CMB sky have been proposed and used in both CMB data and simulated maps. Here, we make a compara…
[Abridged] In recent works we have proposed two new large-angle non-Gaussianity indicators based on skewness and kurtosis of patches of CMB sky-sphere, and used them to find out significant deviation from Gaussianity in frequency bands and foreground-reduced CMB maps. Simulated CMB maps with assigned type and amplitude of primordial non-Gaussianity are important tools to determine the strength, sensitivity and limitations of non-Gaussian estimators. Here we investigate whether and to what extent our non-Gaussian indicators have sensitivity to detect non-Gaussianity of local type, particularly …
We present a model-independent investigation of the WMAP data with respect to scale- dependent non-Gaussianities (NGs) by employing the method of constrained randomization. For generating so-called surrogate maps a shuffling scheme is applied to the Fourier phases of the original data, which allows to test for the presence of higher order correlations (HOCs) on well-defined scales. Using scaling indices as test statistics we find highly significant signatures for non-Gaussianities when considering all scales. We test for NGs in the bands l = [2,20], l = [20,60], l = [60,120] and l = [120,300].…
A large fraction of the previously estimated WMAP CMB quadrupole signal would be an artefact of incorrect Doppler dipole subtraction if the hypothesis of a small timing interpolation error were correct. Observations of bright foreground objects constitute part of the time-ordered-data (TOD). Scans of an object in different directions should be shifted by the would-be timing error, causing a blurring effect. Three half-years of the calibrated, filtered WMAP TOD are compiled individually for the four W band differencing assemblies (DA's), with no masking of bright objects, giving 12 maps for eac…
We investigate some of the asymmetries reported in the CMB temperature angular distribution considering the ΛCDM model in the 3, 5 and 7 year WMAP data. We aim to analyze the 4 quadrants of the ILC CMB maps using 3 Galactic cuts: the WMAP KQ85 mask, a |b|<10 degrees and the WMAP KQ85 mask +|b|<10 degrees Galactic cuts. We used the two-point angular correlation function in the WMAP maps for each of their quadrants. The same procedure was done for 1000 Monte Carlo simulations that were produced using the WMAP team ΛCDM best-fit power spectrum. We also changed the quadrupole and octopole amplitud…
The Internal Linear Combination (ILC) method has been extensively used to extract the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy map from foreground contaminated multi-frequency maps. However, the performance of simple ILC is limited and can be significantly improved by heavily constraint equations, dubbed cILC. The standard ILC and cILC works on the spin-0 field. Recently, a generalized version of ILC is developed to estimate polarization maps in which the quantity $Q \pm iU$ is combined at multiple frequencies using complex coefficients called Polarization ILC (PILC). A statistical moment …
Large-scale anomalies have been reported in CMB data with both WMAP and Planck data. These could be due to foreground residuals and or systematic effects, though their confirmation with Planck data suggests they are not due to a problem in the WMAP or Planck pipelines. If these anomalies are in fact primordial, then understanding their origin is fundamental to either validate the standard model of cosmology or to explore new physics. We investigate three other possible issues: 1) the trade-off between minimising systematics due to foreground contamination (with a conservative mask) and minimis…
In the recent years, the internal-linear-combination (ILC) method was investigated extensively in the context of reconstruction of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature anisotropy signal using observations obtained by WMAP and Planck satellite missions. In this article, we, for the first time, apply the ILC method to reconstruct the large scale CMB E mode polarization signal, which serves as the unique probe of ionization history of the Universe, using simulated observations of 15 frequency CMB polarization maps of future generation COrE satellite mission. We find that usual ILC cleane…
The low multipole anomalies of the Cosmic Microwave Background has received much attention during the last few years. It is still not ascertained whether these anomalies are indeed primordial or the result of systematics or foregrounds. An example of a foreground, which could generate some non-Gaussian and statistically anisotropic features at low multipole range, is the very symmetric Kuiper Belt in the outer solar system. In this paper, expanding upon the methods presented by Maris et al. (2011), we investigate the contributions from the Kuiper Belt objects (KBO) to the WMAP ILC 7 map, where…
In order to test for non-Gaussianities with respect to scale-dependencies we use so-called surrogate maps, in which possible phase correlations of the Fourier phases of the original WMAP data and simulations, respectively, are destroyed by applying a shuffling scheme to the maps. A statistical comparison of the original maps with the surrogate maps then allows to test for the existence of higher order correlations in the original maps, also and especially on well-defined Fourier modes. Using Minkowski functionals as an image analysis technique we calculate the deviation between the original da…
The analysis of current Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments is based on the interpretation of multi-frequency sky maps in terms of different astrophysical components and it requires specifically tailored component separation algorithms. In this context, Internal Linear Combination (ILC) methods have been extensively used to extract the CMB emission from the WMAP multi-frequency data. We present here a Modified Internal Linear Component Algorithm (MILCA) that generalizes the ILC approach to the case of multiple astrophysical components for which the electromagnetic spectrum is known. …
A detection or nondetection of primordial non-Gaussianity in the CMB data is essential not only to test alternative models of the physics of the early universe but also to discriminate among classes of inflationary models. Given this far reaching consequences of such a non-Gaussianity detection for our understanding of the physics of the early universe, it is important to employ alternative indicators in order to have further information about the Gaussianity features of CMB that may be helpful for identifying their origins. In this way, a considerable effort has recently gone into the design …
[Abridged] We present updated estimates of Galactic foreground emission using seven years of WMAP data. Using the power spectrum of differences between multi-frequency template-cleaned maps, we find no evidence for foreground contamination outside of the updated (KQ85y7) foreground mask. We place a 15 microKelvin upper bound on rms foreground contamination in the cleaned maps used for cosmological analysis. We find no indication in the polarization data of an extra "haze" of hard synchrotron emission from energetic electrons near the Galactic center. We provide an updated map of the cosmic mic…
We analyze seven year and nine year WMAP temperature maps for signatures of three finite flat topologies M_0=T^3, M_1=T^2 x R^1, and M_2=S^1 x R^2. We use Monte-Carlo simulations with the Feldman-Cousins method to obtain confidence intervals for the size of the topologies considered. We analyze the V, W, and Q frequency bands along with the ILC map and find no significant difference in the results. The 95.5% confidence level lower bound on the size of the topology is 1.5L_0 for M_0, 1.4L_0 for M_1, and 1.1L_0 for M_2, where L_0 is the radius of the last scattering surface. Our results agree ve…
If the principle of statistical isotropy is valid, then the angular power spectrum (APS) of cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation is uncorrelated between different multipoles. We propose a novel technique to analyse any possible correlations of the foreground cleaned CMB temperature angular power spectrum (APS) measures ($C_{\ell}$ and $\mathcal{D}_\ell=\frac{\ell(\ell+1)}{2π}C_\ell$). This is motivated by the behaviour of level spacings between random matrix eigenvalues. The method helps distinguish uncorrelated statistically isotropic CMB APS from correlated APS, where the latter can a…
Gaussianity and statistical isotropy of the Universe are modern cosmology's minimal set of hypotheses. In this work we introduce a new statistical test to detect observational deviations from this minimal set. By defining the temperature correlation function over the whole celestial sphere, we are able to independently quantify both angular and planar dependence (modulations) of the CMB temperature power spectrum over different slices of this sphere. Given that planar dependence leads to further modulations of the usual angular power spectrum $C_l$, this test can potentially reveal richer stru…
A recent article (Liu et al. 2014) looks for evidence in the WMAP internal linear combination map (ILC) of unmodeled emission from the galactic radio loop known as Loop I. The statistically strongest result comes from a cluster analysis that tests whether the "hot spots" within a $20^\circ$ annulus at Loop I are preferentially located near the center line of the annulus. From this cluster analysis the authors report a $p$-value of 0.018% when considering the four highest bins (75-87 $μ$K). I show that the reported statistical significance has been overestimated. First, the analysis does not co…
In this article we propose a novel test for statistical anisotropy of the CMB. The test is based on the fact, that the Galactic foregrounds have a remarcably strong symmetry with respect to their antipodal points and with respect to the Galactic plane, while the cosmological signal should not be symmetric or asymmetric under these transitions. We have applied the test for the octupole component of the WMAP ILC 7 map, by looking at a_3,1 and a_3,3, and their ratio to a_3,2 both for real and imaginary values. We find abnormal symmetry of the octupole component at the level of 0.58%, compared to …
We explore the microwave anisotropies at large angular scales produced by the emission from cold and large dust grains, expected to exist in the outer parts of the Solar System, using a simple toy model for this diuse emission. Its amplitude is constrained in the Far-IR by the COBE data and is compatible with simulations found in the literature. We analyze the templates derived after subtracting our model from the WMAP ILC 7 yr maps and investigate on the cosmological implications of such a possible foreground. The anomalies related to the low quadrupole of the angular power spectrum, the two-…
The presence of astrophysical emissions between the last scattering surface and our vantage point requires us to apply a foreground mask on CMB sky map, leading to large cut around the Galactic equator and numerous holes. Since many CMB analyses, including non-Gaussianity study may be performed on a whole sky map in a more straightforward and reliable manner, it is of utmost importance to develop an efficient method to in-paint the CMB sky map, while still preserving statistical properties. In this letter, we consider Monte-Carlo simulation of constrained Gaussian field and derive it for CMB a…

We present a novel technique for Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) foreground subtraction based on the framework of blind source separation. Inspired by previous work incorporating local variation to Generalized Morphological Component Analysis (GMCA), we introduce Hierarchical GMCA (HGMCA), a Bayesian hierarchical graphical model for source separation. We test our method on $N_{\rm side}=256$ simulated sky maps that include dust, synchrotron, free-free and anomalous microwave emission, and show that HGMCA reduces foreground contamination by $25\%$ over GMCA in both the regions included and ex…
In this article, we extend previous studies based on CMB spherical harmonic phases (SHP) to examine the validity of the hypothesis that the temperature field of the CMB is consistent with a Gaussian random field (GRF). The null hypothesis is that the corresponding CMB SHP are independent and identically distributed in terms of a uniform distribution in the interval [0, 2$π$] \citep{1986ApJ...304...15B,2013rossmanith}. We devise a new model-independent method where we use ordered and non-parametric Rao's statistic, based on sample arc-lengths to comprehensively test uniformity and independence …
We carry out a comprehensive analysis of the possible constraints on cosmological and astrophysical parameters achievable with measurements of the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) power spectrum from upcoming full-sky CMB observations, with a particular focus on one-parameter extensions to the LCDM standard model involving local primordial non-Gaussianity (described by fNL) and massive neutrinos (described by Mnu). We include all of the relevant physical effects due to these additional parameters, including the change to the halo mass function and the scale-dependent halo bias induced by local…
