Bongartz and Ringel proved that there is no gaps in the sequence of lengths of indecomposable modules for the finite-dimensional algebras over algebraically closed fields. The present paper mainly study this "no gaps" theorem for the bounded derived module category $D^b(A)$ of a gentle algebra $A$: if there is an indecomposable object in $D^b(A)$ of cohomological length $l>1$, then there exists an indecomposable with cohomological length $l-1$.
We give a characterization of indecomposable exceptional modules over finite dimensional gentle algebras. As an application, we study gentle algebras arising from an unpunctured surface and show that a class of indecomposable modules related to curves without selfintersections, as exceptional modules, are uniquely determined by their dimension vectors.
In this article we provide a simple combinatorial description of morphisms between indecomposable complexes in the bounded derived category of a gentle algebra.
In this article we describe indecomposable objects of the derived categories of a branch class of associative algebras. To this class belong such known classes of algebras as gentle algebras, skew-gentle algebras and certain degenerations of tubular algebras.
Skew-gentle algebras are skew-group algebras of certain gentle algebras endowed with a Z 2-action. Using the topological description of Opper, Plamondon and Schroll in [OPS] for the indecomposable objects of the derived category of any gentle algebra, one obtains here a complete description of indecomposable objects in the derived category of any skew-gentle algebras in terms of curves on an orbifold surface. The results presented here are complementary to the ones in [LSV]. First, we obtain a complete classification of indecomposable objects and not of ''homotopy strings'' and ''homotopy bands…
In this paper we determine extensions of higher degree between indecomposable modules over gentle algebras. In particular, our results show how such extensions either eventually vanish or become periodic. We give a geometric interpretation of vanishing and periodicity of higher extensions in terms of the surface underlying the gentle algebra. For gentle algebras arising from triangulations of surfaces, we give an explicit basis of higher extension spaces between indecomposable modules.
Among finite dimensional algebras over a field $K$, the class of gentle algebras is known to be closed by derived equivalences. Although a classification up to derived equivalences is usually a difficult problem, Avella-Alaminos and Geiss have introduced derived invariants for gentle algebras $A$, which can be calculated combinatorially from their bound quivers, applicable to such classification. Ladkani has given a formula to describe the dimensions of the Hochschild cohomologies of $A$ in terms of some values of its Avella-Alaminos--Geiss invariants. This in turn implies a cohomological mean…
For any gentle algebra $Λ=KQ/\langle I\rangle$, following Kalck, we describe the quiver and the relations for its Cohen-Macaulay Auslander algebra $\mathrm{Aus}(\mathrm{Gproj}Λ)$ explicitly, and obtain some properties, such as $Λ$ is representation-finite if and only if $\mathrm{Aus}(\mathrm{Gproj}Λ)$ is; if $Q$ has no loop and any indecomposable $Λ$-module is uniquely determined by its dimension vector, then any indecomposable $\mathrm{Aus}(\mathrm{Gproj}Λ)$-module is uniquely determined by its dimension vector.
In this note we correct two oversights in [Mapping cones in the bounded derived category of a gentle algebra, J. Algebra 530 (2019), 163--194, also arXiv:1609.09688] which only occur when a band complex is involved. As a consequence we see that the mapping cone of a morphism between two band complexes can decompose into arbitrarily many indecomposable direct summands.
Skew-gentle algebras are a generalisation of the well-known class of gentle algebras with which they share many common properties. In this work, using non-commutative Gröbner basis theory, we show that these algebras are Koszul and that the Koszul dual is again skew-gentle. We give a geometric model of their bounded derived categories in terms of polygonal dissections of orbifold surfaces establishing a correspondence between curves in the orbifold and indecomposable objects. Moreover, we show that the orbifold dissections encode homological properties of skew-gentle algebras such as their sin…
We give a complete description of a basis of the extension spaces between indecomposable string and quasi-simple band modules in the module category of a gentle algebra.
In this paper, we investigate properties of the bounded derived category of finite dimensional modules over a gentle or skew-gentle algebra. We show that the Rouquier dimension of the derived category of such an algebra is at most one. Using this result, we prove that the Rouquier dimension of an arbitrary tame projective curve is equal to one, too. Finally, we elaborate the classification of indecomposable objects of the (possibly unbounded) homotopy category of projective modules of a gentle algebra.
We consider algebras defined over a complete, local and noetherian ground ring. They are gentle algebras in case the ground ring is a field. The unbounded homotopy category of complexes of projective modules is considered. Complexes with finitely-generated homogeneous components are shown to be isomorphic to direct sums of indecomposable string and band complexes. The corresponding isoclasses are described, and the Krull-Remak-Schmidt-Azumaya property is verified. This classification problem is solved using the idea of functorial filtrations.
We study semiorthogonal decompositions of bounded derived categories of gentle algebras and how they are manifested in the geometric model of these categories as constructed by Opper, Plamondon and Schroll. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between such semiorthogonal decompositions and suitable cuts of the marked surface underlying the geometric model. Our main tool is the characterization of basis morphisms between indecomposable objects due to Arnesen, Laking and Pauksztello.
In this article we describe the triangulated structure of the bounded derived category of a gentle algebra by describing the triangles induced by the morphisms between indecomposable objects in a basis of their Hom-space.
Exceptional cycles in a triangulated category $\mathcal T$ with Serre duality, introduced by N. Broomhead, D. Pauksztello, and D. Ploog, have a notable impact on the global structure of $\mathcal T$. In this paper we show that if $\mathcal T$ is homotopy-like, then any exceptional $1$-cycle is indecomposable and at the mouth; and any object in an exceptional $n$-cycle with $n\ge 3$ is at the mouth. Let $A$ be an indecomposable gentle $k$-algebra with $A\ne k$. The Hom spaces between string complexes at the mouth are explicitly determined. The main result classifies "almost all" the exceptional…
We consider the homotopy category of complexes of projective modules over any gentle algebra. We prove that indecomposable $Σ$-pure-injective objects in s must be shifts of string or band complexes. We begin with a survey of purity in compactly generated triangulated categories, recalling some characterisations of $Σ$-pure-injective objects that mimic classical results from the model theory of modules. We then specify to the aforementioned homotopy category, and describe the compact objects in this case. Our proof uses a recent adaptation of a classification technique known as the functorial f…
We give a combinatorial description of a family of indecomposable objects in the bounded derived categories of a new class of algebras: string almost gentle algebras. These indecomposable objects are, up to isomorphism, the string and band complexes introduced by V. Bekkert and H. Merklen. With this description, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a given string complex to have infinite minimal projective resolution and we extend this condition for the case of string algebras. Using this characterization we establish a sufficient condition for a string almost gentle algebra (or a …
Let $A=kQ/I$ be a finite dimensional basic algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ which is a gentle algebra with the marked ribbon surface $(\mathcal{S}_A,\mathcal{M}_A,Γ_A)$. It is known that $\mathcal{S}_A$ can be divided into some elementary polygons $\{Δ_i\mid 1\le i\le d\}$ by $Γ_A$ which has exactly one side in the boundary of $\mathcal{S}_A$. Let $\mathfrak{C}(Δ_i)$ be the number of sides of $Δ_i$ belonging to $Γ_A$ if the unmarked boundary component of $\mathcal{S}_A$ is not a side of $Δ_i$; otherwise, $\mathfrak{C}(Δ_i)=\infty$, and let $\mathsf{f}\text{-}Δ$ be the set of all …
For a finite cyclic p-group G and a discrete valuation domain R of characteristic 0 with maximal ideal pR the R[G]-permutation modules are characterized in terms of the vanishing of first degree cohomology on all sub- groups (cf. Thm. A). As a consequence any R[G]-lattice can be presented by R[G]-permutation modules (cf. Thm. C). The proof of these results is based on a detailed analysis of the category of cohomological G-Mackey functors with values in the category of R-modules. It is shown that this category has global dimension 3 (cf. Thm. E). A crucial step in the proof of Theorem E is the …
Let $\mathbf{k}$ be an algebraically closed field. In this article, inspired by the description of indecomposable objects in the derived category of a gentle algebra obtained by V. Bekkert and H. A. Merklen, we define string complexes for a certain class $\mathscr{C}$ of symmetric special biserial algebras, which are indecomposable perfect complexes in the corresponding derived category. We also prove that if $Λ$ is a $\mathbf{k}$-algebra in the class $\mathscr{C}$ and $P^\bullet$ is a string complex over $Λ$, then $P^\bullet$ lies in the rim of its Auslander-Reiten component.
By a result of Hemmer, every simple Specht module of a finite symmetric group over a field of odd characteristic is a signed Young module. While Specht modules are parametrized by partitions, indecomposable signed Young modules are parametrized by certain pairs of partitions. The main result of this article establishes the signed Young module labels of simple Specht modules. Along the way we prove a number of results concerning indecomposable signed Young modules that are of independent interest. In particular, we determine the label of the indecomposable signed Young module obtained by tensor…
In the context of representation theory of finite dimensional algebras, string algebras have been extensively studied and most aspects of their representation theory are well-understood. One exception to this is the classification of extensions between indecomposable modules. In this paper we explicitly describe such extensions for a class of string algebras, namely gentle algebras associated to surface triangulations. These algebras arise as Jacobian algebras of unpunctured surfaces. We relate the extension spaces of indecomposable modules to crossings of arcs in the surface and give explicit…
