Several properties of bound states in potential $ V(x)= g^2\exp (|x|)$ are studied. Firstly, with the emphasis on the reliability of our arbitrary-precision construction, wave functions are considered in the two alternative (viz., asymptotically decreasing or regular) exact Bessel-function forms which obey the asymptotic or matching conditions, respectively. The merits of the resulting complementary transcendental secular equation approaches are compared and their applicability is discussed.
Sextic polynomial oscillator is probably the best known quantum system which is partially exactly {\it alias} quasi-exactly solvable (QES), i.e., which possesses closed-form, elementary-function bound states $ψ(x)$ at certain couplings and energies. In contrast, the apparently simpler and phenomenologically more important quartic polynomial oscillator is {\em not\,} QES. A resolution of the paradox is proposed: The one-dimensional Schrödinger equation is shown QES after the analyticity-violating symmetrization $V(x)=A|x|+B x^2+C|x|^3+x^4$ of the quartic polynomial potential.
The symmetrized quartic polynomial oscillator is shown to admit an sl(2,$\R$) algebraization. Some simple quasi-exactly solvable (QES) solutions are exhibited. A new symmetrized sextic polynomial oscillator is introduced and proved to be QES by explicitly deriving some exact, closed-form solutions by resorting to the functional Bethe ansatz method. Such polynomial oscillators include two categories of QES potentials: the first one containing the well-known analytic sextic potentials as a subset, and the second one of novel potentials with no counterpart in such a class.
Unified description of magic numbers of metal clusters in terms of the 3-dimensional q-deformed harmonic oscillator
A new solution is proposed to the long-standing problem of describing the quantum phase of a harmonic oscillator. In terms of an'exponential phase operator', defined by a new 'polar decomposition' of the quantized amplitude of the oscillator, a regular phase operator is constructed in the Hilbert-Fock space as a strongly convergent power series. It is shown that the eigenstates of the new 'exponential operators are SU(1,1) coherent states in the Holstein-Primakoff realization. In terms of these eigenstates, the diagonal representation of phase densities and a generalized spectal resolution of …
A quantum system interacts with its environment, if ever so slightly, no matter how much care is put into isolating it. As a consequence, quantum bits (qubits) undergo errors, putting dauntingly difficult constraints on the hardware suitable for quantum computation. New strategies are emerging to circumvent this problem by encoding a qubit non-locally across the phase space of a physical system. Since most sources of decoherence are due to local fluctuations, the foundational promise is to exponentially suppress errors by increasing a measure of this non-locality. Prominent examples are topolo…
The literature on the exponential Fourier approach to the one-dimensional quantum harmonic oscillator problem is revised and criticized. It is shown that the solution of this problem has been built on faulty premises. The problem is revisited via the Fourier sine and cosine transform method and the stationary states are properly determined by requiring definite parity and square-integrable eigenfunctions.
We analyze the properties of a quantum system composed of two coherently coupled quantum oscillators and show through simulations that it fulfills the two properties required for reservoir computing: non-linearity and fading memory. We first show that the basis states of this system apply a set of nonlinear transformations on the input signals and thus can implement neurons. We then show that the system exhibits a fading memory that can be controlled by its dissipation rates. Finally we show that a strong coupling between the oscillators is important in order to ensure complex dynamics and to …
The Tsallis $q$-exponential function $e_q(x) = (1+(1-q)x)^{\frac{1}{1-q}}$ is found to be associated with the deformed oscillator defined by the relations $\left[N,a^\dagger\right] = a^\dagger$, $[N,a] = -a$, and $\left[a,a^\dagger\right] = ϕ_T(N+1)-ϕ_T(N)$, with $ϕ_T(N) = N/(1+(q-1)(N-1))$. In a Bargmann-like representation of this deformed oscillator the annihilation operator $a$ corresponds to a deformed derivative with the Tsallis $q$-exponential functions as its eigenfunctions, and the Tsallis $q$-exponential functions become the coherent states of the deformed oscillator. When $q = 2$ th…
We provide a detailed examination of a thermal out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) growing exponentially in time in systems without chaos. The system is a one-dimensional quantum mechanics with a potential whose part is an inverted harmonic oscillator. We numerically observe the exponential growth of the OTOC when the temperature is higher than a certain threshold. The Lyapunov exponent is found to be of the order of the classical Lyapunov exponent generated at the hilltop, and it remains non-vanishing even at high temperature. We adopt various shape of the potential and find these features un…
Exponential growth of thermal out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) is an indicator of a possible gravity dual, and a simple toy quantum model showing the growth is being looked for. We consider a system of two harmonic oscillators coupled nonlinearly with each other, and numerically observe that the thermal OTOC grows exponentially in time. The system is well-known to be classically chaotic, and is a reduction of Yang-Mills-Higgs theory. The exponential growth is certified because the growth exponent (quantum Lyapunov exponent) of the thermal OTOC is well matched with the classical Lyapunov exp…

We investigate T-matrix for bound and continuous-spectrum states in the discrete oscillator representation. The investigation is carried out for a model problem - the particle in the field of a central potential. A system of linear equations is derived to determine the coefficients of the T-matrix expansion in the oscillator functions. We selected four potentials (Gaussian, exponential, Yukawa, and square-well ones) to demonstrate peculiarities of the T-matrix and its dependence on the potential shape. We also study how the T-matrix expansion coefficients depend on the parameters of the oscill…
The exponential decay law is well established since its first derivation in 1928, however it is not exact but only an approximate description. In recent years some experimental and theoretical indications for non-exponential decay have been documented. First we solve analytically the time-dependent Schrödinger equation in one dimension for a potential consisting of an infinite wall plus a rectangular barrier with finite width and also a cut harmonic oscillator potential by considering it as a sequence of square potentials. Then using the staggered Leap-Frog method, we solve the time-dependent …
We study many-body properties of quantum harmonic oscillator lattices with disorder. A sufficient condition for dynamical localization, expressed as a zero-velocity Lieb-Robinson bound, is formulated in terms of the decay of the eigenfunction correlators for an effective one-particle Hamiltonian. We show how state-of-the-art techniques for proving Anderson localization can be used to prove that these properties hold in a number of standard models. We also derive bounds on the static and dynamic correlation functions at both zero and positive temperature in terms of one-particle eigenfunction c…
This paper is concerned with multimode open quantum harmonic oscillators and quadratic-exponential functionals (QEFs) as quantum risk-sensitive performance criteria. Such systems are described by linear quantum stochastic differential equations driven by multichannel bosonic fields. We develop a finite-horizon expansion for the system variables using the eigenbasis of their two-point commutator kernel with noncommuting position-momentum pairs as coefficients. This quantum Karhunen-Loeve expansion is used in order to obtain a Girsanov type representation for the quadratic-exponential functions …
