We show that a junction of three off-critical quantum Ising chains can be regarded as a quantum spin chain realization of the two-channel spin-1/2 overscreened Kondo effect with two superconducting leads. We prove that, as long as the Kondo temperature is larger than the superconducting gap, the equivalent Kondo model flows towards the 2 channel Kondo fixed point. We argue that our system provides the first controlled realization of 2 channel Kondo effect with superconducting leads. This, besides its the theoretical interest, is of importance for potential applications to a number of context, including the analysis of the quantum entanglement properties of a Kondo system.
We consider the Kondo effect in Y-junctions of anisotropic XY models in an applied magnetic field along the critical lines characterized by a gapless excitation spectrum. We find that, while the boundary interaction Hamiltonian describing the junction can be recasted in the form of a four-channel, spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Kondo Hamiltonian, the number of channels effectively participating in the Kondo effect depends on the chain parameters, as well as on the boundary couplings at the junction. The system evolves from an effective four-channel topological Kondo effect for a junction of XX-cha…
We show that- in the quantum regime- a Josephson junction rhombi chain (i.e. a Josephson junction chain made by rhombi formed by joining 4 Josephson junctions) may be effectively mapped onto a quantum Hamiltonian describing Ising spins in a transverse magnetic field with open boundary conditions. Then, we elucidate how a Y-shaped network fabricated with 3 Josephson Junction Rhombi chains may be used as a quantum device realizing the two channel Kondo model recently proposed by Tsvelik. We point out that the emergence of a 2 channel Kondo effect in this superconducting network may be probed thr…
The Bose-Fermi Kondo model captures the physics of the destruction of Kondo screening, which is of extensive current interest to the understanding of quantum critical heavy fermion metals. There are presently limited theoretical methods to study the finite temperature properties of the Bose-Fermi Kondo model. Here we provide some of the consistency checks on the cluster-Monte Carlo method, which we have recently applied to the Ising-anisotropic Bose-Fermi Kondo model. We show that the method correctly captures the scaling properties of the Kondo phase, as well as those on approach to the Kondo…
We study a model of Ising-coupled Kondo impurities that can be applied to quantum dots with capacitance coupling, coupled qubits with an incoherent environment, etc. We show that this model becomes equivalent to a Anderson impurity model with a novel solitonic Fermi sea. We derive exact results at the Toulouse point, and use the flow equation method to extend this analysis away from the Toulouse point for not too large Ising couplings.
We present an Ising-like intermediate phase for one-dimensional Kondo insulator systems. Resulting from a spinon splitting, its low-energy excitations are critical Ising modes, whereas the triplet sector has a spectral gap. It should occur as long as the RKKY oscillation amplitude dominates over any direct exchange between localized spins. The chiral fixed point, however, becomes unstable in the far Infra-Red limit due to prevalent fluctuations among localized spins which induce gapless triplet excitations in the spectrum. Based on previous numerical results, we obtain a paramagnetic disordere…
Recent studies of heavy-fermion systems with tunable quantum fluctuations have focused on a variety of zero-temperature phase transitions that involve not only the onset of magnetic order but also the destruction of Kondo entanglement. Motivated by these developments, we investigate the effect of enhanced quantum fluctuations induced by a transverse magnetic field in an Ising-anisotropic Kondo lattice model, solved within an extended dynamical mean field theory using the numerical renormalization group. A line of locally critical points describes a direct transition from a Kondo-screened param…
Electron transport through [normal metal]-[quantum dot]-[topological superconductor] junction is studied and reveals interlacing physics of Kondo correlations with two Majorana fermions bound state residing on the opposite edges of the topological superconductor. When the strength of the Majorana fermion coupling exceeds the temperature $T$, this combination of Kono-Majorana fermion physics can be observed: The usual peak of the temperature dependent zero biased conductance $σ(V=0,T)$ splits and the conductance has a {\it dip} at T=0. The height of the conductance side-peaks decreases with mag…
In $TmB_4$, localized electrons with a large magnetic moment interact with metallic electrons in boron-derived bands. We examine the nature of $TmB_4$ using full-relativistic ab-initio density functional theory calculations, approximate tight-binding Hamiltonian results, and the development of an effective Kondo-Ising model for this system. Features of the Fermi surface relating to the anisotropic conduction of charge are discussed. The observed magnetic moment $\sim 6 \, μ_B$ is argued to require a subtle crystal field effect in metallic systems, involving a flipped sign of the effective char…
We introduce and study a simplification of the symmetric single-impurity Kondo model. In the Ising-Kondo model, host electrons scatter off a single magnetic impurity at the origin whose spin orientation is dynamically conserved. This reduces the problem to potential scattering of spinless fermions that can be solved exactly using the equation-of-motion technique. The Ising-Kondo model provides an example for static screening. At low temperatures, the thermodynamics at finite magnetic fields resembles that of a free spin-1/2 in a reduced external field. Alternatively, the Curie law can be inter…
Numerical investigation on the thermodynamic properties of an Ising spin Kondo lattice model on a kagome lattice is reported. By using Monte Carlo simulation, we investigated the magnetic phases at 1/3-filling. We identified two successive transitions from high-temperature paramagnetic state to a Kosterlitz-Thouless-like phase in an intermediate temperature range and to a partially disordered phase at a lower temperature. The partially disordered state is characterized by coexistence of antiferromagnetic hexagons and paramagnetic sites with period $\sqrt3 \times \sqrt3$. We compare the results…
Phase diagram of an Ising-spin Kondo lattice model on a triangular lattice near 1/3-filling is investigated by Monte Carlo simulation. We identify a partially disordered phase with coexistence of magnetic order and paramagnetic moments, which was unstable in two-dimensional Ising models with localized spins only. The partial disorder emerges in the competing regime between a twosublattice stripe phase and three-sublattice ferrimagnetic phase, at finite temperatures above an electronic phase separation. The peculiar magnetic structure accompanies a charge order and develops a gap in the electro…
In this paper I present a conjecture for the Bethe ansatz equations for the model describing a star junction of $M$ quantum critical Ising chains. For $M>3$ such model exhibits the so-called topological Kondo effect [B. Beri and N. R. Cooper, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 109}, 156803 (2012)] related to existence of Majorana zero energy modes at the junction. These modes are of a topological nature; they non-locally encode an SO(M) "spin" which is screened by the collective excitations of the chains. For certain values of $M$ the model is equivalent to the Kondo models with known exact solution. These…
Heavy fermion (HF) states emerge in correlated quantum materials due to the interplay between localized magnetic moments and itinerant electrons, but rarely appear in 3d-electron systems due to high itinerancy of d-electrons. Here, an anomalous enhancement of Kondo screening is observed at the Kondo hole of local Fe vacancies in Fe3GeTe2 which is a recently discovered 3d-HF system featuring of Kondo lattice and two-dimensional itinerant ferromagnetism. An itinerant Kondo-Ising model is established to reproduce the experimental results which provides insight of the competition between Ising fer…
IVC characteristics as well as their derivatives were recorded for contacts on the base of CeNiSn, known as Kondo semiconductor, in the metallic and the tunnelling regime at temperatures between 0.1-8 K and in magnetic fields up to 8 T using mechanically controllable break junctions (MCBJ). It was found that CeNiSn behaves like a compound with typical metallic properties instead of the expected semiconducting behaviour. The main spectral feature is a pronounced zero-bias conductance minimum of about 10 meV width both for metallic and tunnel regime, which appears to be of magnetic nature. The e…
Phase diagram of an Ising-spin Kondo lattice model on a kagome lattice is investigated by a Monte Carlo simulation. We find that the system exhibits a peculiar ferrimagnetic state at a finite temperature, in which each triangle is in a two-up one-down spin configuration but the spin correlation does not develop any superstructure. We call this state the loop liquid, as it is characterized by the emergent degree of freedom, self-avoiding up-spin loops. We elucidate that the system shows phase transitions from the loop liquid to ferrimagnetically ordered states and a crossover to a partially fer…
Stable organic radicals integrated into molecular junctions represent a practical realization of the single-orbital Anderson impurity model. Motivated by recent experiments for perchlorotriphenylmethyl (PTM) molecules contacted to gold electrodes, we develop a method that combines density functional theory (DFT), quantum transport theory, numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations and renormalized super-perturbation theory (rSPT) to compute both equilibrium and non-equilibrium properties of strongly correlated nanoscale systems at low temperatures effectively from first principles. We …
We study a system of an impurity spin coupled to a junction of several Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids using a renormalization group scheme. For the decoupled S-matrix at the junction, there is a range of Kondo couplings which flow to a multi-channel fixed point for repulsive inter-electron interactions; this is associated with a characteristic temperature dependence of the spin-flip scatterings. If the junction is governed by the Griffiths S-matrix, the Kondo couplings flow to a strong coupling fixed point where all the wires are decoupled.
We derive the topological Kondo Hamiltonian describing a Y junction of three XX-spin chains connected to outer quantum Ising chains with different tilting angles for the Ising axis. We show that the tilting angles in the spin models play the role of the phases of the superconducting order parameters at the interfaces between bulk superconductors and one-dimensional conducting normal electronic wires. As a result, different tilting angles induce nonzero equilibrium spin (super)currents through the junction. Employing the renormalization group approach to the topological Kondo model, we derive t…
Electron transport between two superconductors through an Anderson impurity in the Kondo regime is investigated within the slave boson mean field approximation. The current, shot noise power and Fano factor are displayed versus the applied bias voltage in the subgap region and found to be strongly dependent on the ratio between the Kondo temperature $T_{K}$ and the superconducting gap $Δ$. In particular, the $I-V$ curve exposes an excess current in the limit $T_{K}/Δ\gg 1$.
The physics of a junction composed of a normal metal, quantum dot and 2D topological insulator (in a quantum spin Hall state) is elucidated. It maifests a subtle combination of Kondo correlations and quantum spin Hall edge states moving on the opposite sides of the 2D topological insulator. In a narrow strip geometry these edge states interact and a gap opens in the edge state spectrum. Consequently, Kondo screening is less effective and that affects electron transport through the junction. Specifically, when edge state coupling is strong enough, the tunneling differential conductance develops…
We apply a Gutzwiller-like variational technique to study Josephson conduction across a quantum dot with an odd number of electrons connected to two superconducting leads. We show that, for small values of the superconducting gap, Kondo correlations and superconductivity cooperate to enhance the Josephson current. As the superconducting gap increases, the current changes sign and the system becomes a $π$-junction. The $π$-junction behavior sets in much before antiferromagnetic correlations at the dot can be treated perturbatively.
It is shown that a junction of three quantum Ising chains ($Δ$-junction) can be described as the 2-channel Kondo model in a box which size is of the order of the Ising model correlation length with spin S=1/2 localized at the junction. The local spin is composed of the zero energy boundary Majorana modes of the Ising models.
In this paper I briefly overview recent theoretical and experimental advances in understanding of tunneling processes between normal metals and metals containing electrons which occupy partially filled f-orbitals. In heavy-fermion materials the effective mass of the quasiparticles far exceeds the bare electron mass due to strong hybridization between conduction and f-orbital states. Kondo lattices form a class of heavy-fermion systems in which an average occupation number of f-electron states is close to an integer. Therefore, the tunneling into a Kondo lattice necessarily involves co-tunnelin…
We investigate the temperature- and coupling-dependent transport through Kondo dot contacts with symmetric superconducting s-wave leads. For finite temperature T we use a superconducting extension of a selfconsistent auxiliary boson scheme, termed SNCA, while at T=0 a perturbative renormalization group treatment is applied. The finite-temperature phase diagram for the 0--pi transition of the Josephson current in the junction is established and related to the phase-dependent position of the subgap Kondo resonance with respect to the Fermi energy. The conductance of the contact is evaluated in t…
We study a system consisting of a junction of N quantum wires, where the junction is characterized by a scalar S-matrix, and an impurity spin is coupled to the electrons close to the junction. The wires are modeled as weakly interacting Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids. We derive the renormalization group equations for the Kondo couplings of the spin to the electronic modes on different wires, and analyze the renormalization group flows and fixed points for different values of the initial Kondo couplings and of the junction S-matrix (such as the decoupled S-matrix and the Griffiths S-matrix). We gen…
An effective Ising model for the spin-ice type Kondo lattice model is investigated by the classical Monte Carlo simulation. We clarify the magnetic phase diagram with four phases: ice-ferro, ice-(0,0,2π), 32-sublattice, and all-in/all-out ordered states. The result well reproduces the phase diagram of the Kondo lattice model studied previously [H. Ishizuka et al.: J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 81 (2012) 113706], which suggests that the RKKY interactions up to third neighbors are sufficient to describe the magnetic properties of the itinerant electron model. We discuss the peculiar nature of phase transit…
We investigate the dynamical and transport features of a Kondo dot side-coupled to a topological superconductor (TS). The Majorana fermion states (MFS) formed at the ends of the TS are found to be able to alter the Kondo physics profoundly: For the ideal setup where the MFS do not overlap ($ε_m=0$) a finite dot-MFS coupling $(Γ_m)$ reduces the unitary-limit value of the linear conductance by exactly a factor 3/4 in the Kondo-dominant regime $(Γ_m<T_K)$, where $T_K$ is the Kondo temperature. In the Majorana-fermion dominant phase ($Γ_m>T_K)$, on the other hand, the spin-split Kondo resonance ta…
The interplay between vibrational modes and Kondo physics is a fundamental aspect of transport properties of correlated molecular conductors. We present theoretical results for a single molecule in the Kondo regime connected to left and right metallic leads, creating the usual coupling to a conduction channel with left-right parity ("even"). A center-of-mass vibrational mode introduces an additional, phonon-assisted, tunneling through the antisymmetric ("odd") channel. A non-Fermi liquid fixed point, reminiscent of the two-channel Kondo effect, appears at a critical value of the phonon-mediate…
We study a Majorana island coupled to a bulk superconductor via a Josephson junction and to multiple external normal leads. In the absence of the Josephson coupling, the system displays a topological Kondo state, which had been largely studied recently. However, we find that this state is unstable even to small Josephson coupling, which instead leads at low temperature $T$ to a new fixed point. Most interesting is the case of three external leads, forming a minimal electronic realization of the long sought two-channel Kondo effect. While the $T=0$ conductance corresponds to simple resonant And…
We theoretically study the nonequilibrium thermoelectric transport properties of a strongly-correlated molecule (or quantum dot) embedded in a tunnel junction. Assuming that the coupling of the molecule to the contacts is asymmetric, we determine the nonlinear current driven by the voltage and temperature gradients by using the perturbation theory. However, the subsystem consisting of the molecule strongly coupled to one of the contacts is solved by using the numerical renormalization group method, which allows for accurate description of Kondo correlations. We study the temperature gradient a…
A mapping between fractional quantum Hall (FQH) junctions and the two-channel Kondo model is presented. We discuss in detail this relation for the particular case of a junction of a FQH state at $ν= 1/3$ and a normal metal. We show that in the strong coupling regime this junction has a non-Fermi liquid fixed point. At this fixed point the electron Green's function has a branch cut, and the entropy has a non-zero value equal to $S={1/2} \ln{2}$. We construct the space of perturbations at the strong coupling fixed point and find that the dimensions of the tunneling operator is 1/2. These behavio…
The non-local effects induced by Majorana fermions in field theories for condensed matter systems are deeply related to the fermion charge fractionalization discovered by Roman Jackiw in relativistic field theories. We show how the presence of Majorana fermions may be mimicked in pertinent networks of spin chains inducing a spin analogue of the multi-channel Kondo effect. The relevance of this spin analogue of the Kondo effect for networks of Josephson arrays and Tonks-Girardeau gases is highlighted.
We study the charge and spin Seebeck effects in a spin-1 molecular junction as a function of temperature (T), applied magnetic field (H), and magnetic anisotropy (D) using Wilson's numerical renormalization group. A hard-axis magnetic anisotropy produces a large enhancement of the charge Seebeck coefficient Sc (\sim k_B/|e|) whose value only depends on the residual interaction between quasiparticles in the low temperature Fermi-liquid regime. In the underscreened spin-1 Kondo regime, the high sensitivity of the system to magnetic fields makes it possible to observe a sizable value for the spin…
We investigate a model of two Kondo impurities coupled via an Ising interaction. Exploiting the mapping to a generalized single-impurity Anderson model, we establish that the model has a singlet and a (pseudospin) doublet phase separated by a Kosterlitz-Thouless quantum phase transition. Based on a strong-coupling analysis and renormalization group arguments, we show that at this transition the conductance G through the system either displays a zero-bias anomaly, G ~ |V|^{-2(\sqrt{2}-1)}, or takes a universal value, G = e^2/(π\hbar) cos^2[π/(2\sqrt{2})], depending on the experimental setup. Cl…
Magnetic and electronic states of an Ising-spin Kondo lattice model on a kagome lattice are investigated by a Monte Carlo simulation. In addition to the conventional ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic orders, we show that this model exhibits several thermally-induced phases, such as partially disordered, Kosteritz-Thouless-like, and loop-liquid states. In the partially disordered state, we show that the magnetic transition is associated with the charge-gap formation. We find that the density of state shows characteristic peaks reflecting the underlying spin texture. In the loop-liquid state, we a…
We present a powerful and general approach to describe the coupling of Majorana fermions to external leads, of interacting or non-interacting electrons. Our picture has the Klein factors of bosonization appearing as extra Majoranas hybridizing with the physical ones. We demonstrate the power of this approach by solving a highly nontrivial SO(M) Kondo problem arising in topological superconductors with M Majorana-lead couplings, allowing for arbitrary M and for conduction electron interactions. We find that these topological Kondo problems give rise to robust non-Fermi liquid behavior, even for…
The continuous quantum phase transition and the nature of quantum critical point (QCP) in a modified Kondo lattice model with Ising anisotropic exchange interactions is studied within the density-matrix renormalization group algorithm. We investigate the effect of quantum fluctuations on critical Kondo destruction QCP, by probing static and dynamic properties of the magnetic order and the Kondo effect. In particular, we identify that local Kondo physics itself becomes critical at the magnetic phase transition point, providing unbiased evidences for local quantum criticality between two insulat…
We report the first numerical identification of a locally quantum critical point, at which the criticality of the local Kondo physics is embedded in that associated with a magnetic ordering. We are able to numerically access the quantum critical behavior by focusing on a Kondo-lattice model with Ising anisotropy. We also establish that the critical exponent for the q-dependent dynamical spin susceptibility is fractional and compares well with the experimental value for heavy fermions.
We establish a mapping of a general spin-fermion system in one dimension into a classical generalized Coulomb gas. This mapping allows a renormalization group treatment of the anisotropic Kondo chain both at and away from half-filling. We find that the phase diagram contains regions of paramagnetism, partial and full ferromagnetic order. We also use the method to analyze the phases of the Ising-Kondo chain.
Magnetic and electronic properties of a Kondo lattice model with Ising localized spins are studied on an isotropic triangular lattice. By using Monte Carlo simulation, we present that the model shows a rich phase diagram with four dominant states: two-sublattice stripe, three-sublattice ferrimganetic, partially disordered, and Kosterlitz-Thouless like quasi-long-range ordered states. Among them, the partially disordered state and Kosterlitz-Thouless like state are intermediate phases induced by thermal fluctuations in the phase competing regime; they are present only at finite temperatures and…

Recently, the MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ material has been proposed as the first intrinsic antiferromagnetic topological insulator (AFMTI), where the interplay between magnetism and topology induces several fascinating topological phases, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect, Majorana fermions, and axion electrodynamics. However, an exactly solvable model being capable to capture the essential physics of the interplay between magnetism and topology is still absent. Here, inspired by the the Ising-like nature [B. Li \textit{et al.} Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{124}, 167204 (2020)] and the topological prop…
A theoretical study has been undertaken of the Peltier effect in normal metal - insulator - heavy fermion metal junctions. The results indicate that, at temperatures below the Kondo temperature, such junctions can be used as electronic microrefrigerators to cool the normal metal electrode and are several times more efficient in cooling than the normal metal - heavy fermion metal junctions.
Motivated in part by quantum criticality in dissipative Kondo systems, we revisit the finite-size scaling of a classical Ising chain with 1/r^{2-epsilon} interactions. For 1/2<epsilon<1, the scaling of the dynamical spin susceptibility is sensitive to the degree of "winding" of the interaction under periodic boundary conditions. Infinite winding yields the expected mean-field behavior, whereas without any winding the scaling is of an interacting omega/T form. The contrast with the behavior of the Bose-Fermi Kondo model suggests a breakdown of a mapping from the quantum model to a classical one…
We present the results of Monte Carlo simulation for a Kondo lattice model in which itinerant electrons interact with Ising spins with spin-ice type easy-axis anisotropy on a pyrochlore lattice. We demonstrate the efficiency of the truncated polynomial expansion algorithm, which enables a large scale simulation, in comparison with a conventional algorithm using the exact diagonalization. Computing the sublattice magnetization, we show the convergence of the data with increasing the number of polynomials and truncation distance.
We present theoretical results for the equilibrium Josephson current through an Anderson dot tuned into the magnetic regime, using Hirsch-Fye Monte Carlo simulations covering the complete crossover from Kondo-dominated physics to $π$ junction behavior in a numerically exact way. Within the `magnetic' regime, $U/Γ\gg 1$ and $ε_0/Γ\leq 1$, the Josephson current is found to depend only on $Δ/T_K$, where $Δ$ is the BCS gap and $T_K$ the Kondo temperature. The junction behavior can be classified into four different quantum phases. We describe these behaviors, specify the associated three transition…
The quantum phase transition between paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases of the Kondo lattice model with Ising anisotropy in the intersite exchange is studied within the framework of extended dynamical mean-field theory. Nonperturbative numerical solutions at zero temperature point to a continuous transition for both two- and three-dimensional magnetism. In the former case, the transition is associated with critical local physics, characterized by a vanishing Kondo scale and by an anomalous exponent in the dynamics close in value to that measured in heavy-fermion CeCu_{5.9}Au_{0.1}.
We use an estimator of quantum criticality based on the entanglement entropy to discuss the ground state properties of the 1D anisotropic Kondo necklace model. We found that the T=0 phase diagram of the model is described by a critical line separating an antiferromagnetic phase from a Kondo singlet state. Moreover we calculate the conformal anomaly on the critical line and obtained that c tends to 0.5 as the thermodynamic limit is reached. We conclude that these transitions belong to Ising universality class being, therefore, second order transitions instead of infinite order as claimed before…
Magnetic impurities bridging nanocontacts and break junctions of nearly magnetic metals may lead to permanent moments, analogous to the giant moments well known in the bulk case. A numerical renormalization group (NRG) study shows that, contrary to mean field based expectations, a permanent moment never arises within an Anderson model, which invariably leads to strong Kondo screening. By including in the model an additional ferromagnetic exchange coupling between leads and impurity, the NRG may instead stabilize a permanent moment through a ferromagnetic Kondo effect. The resulting state is a …
Using a precise coset Ising-Bose representation, we show how backscattering of electrons off a magnetic impurity destabilizes the two-channel Kondo fixed point and drives the system to a new fixed point, in agreement with previous results. In addition, we verify the scaling proposed by Furusaki and Nagaosa and prove that the other possible critical fixed point, namely the local Fermi liquid class, is not completely universal when backscattering is included because the Wilson ratio is not well-defined in the spinon basis.
Motivated by the unconventional superconductivity observed in heavy-fermion metals, we investigate pairing susceptibilities near a continuous quantum phase transition of the Kondo-destruction type. We solve two-impurity Bose-Fermi Anderson models with Ising and Heisenberg forms of the interimpurity exchange interaction using continuous-time quantum Monte-Carlo and numerical renormalization-group methods. Each model exhibits a Kondo-destruction quantum critical point separating Kondo-screened and local-moment phases. For antiferromagnetic interimpurity exchange interactions, singlet pairing is …
Anderson localization (AL) phenomena usually exists in systems with random potential. However, disorder-free quantum many-body systems with local conservation can also exhibit AL or even many-body localization transition. In this work, we show that the AL phase exists in a modified Kondo lattice without external random potential. The density of state, inverse participation ratio and temperature-dependent resistance are computed by classical Monte Carlo simulation, which uncovers the AL phase from previously studied Fermi liquid and Mott insulator regime. The occurrence of AL roots from quenche…
Recent experiments in quantum critical heavy fermion metals have pushed to the fore the question about whether antiferromagnetic fluctuations can promote both spin-singlet and spin-triplet superconductivity. Here we address the issue through non-perturbative calculations in antiferromagnetically correlated Kondo systems. We identify Kondo-destruction quantum critical points in both the SU(2) symmetric and Ising-anisotropic cluster Bose-Fermi Anderson models. The spin-singlet pairing correlations are significantly enhanced near the quantum critical point in the SU(2) case; however, with adequat…
The interplay of almost degenerate levels in quantum dots and molecular junctions with possibly different couplings to the reservoirs has lead to many observable phenomena, such as the Fano effect, transmission phase slips and the SU(4) Kondo effect. Here we predict a dramatic repeated disappearance and reemergence of the SU(4) and anomalous SU(2) Kondo effects with increasing gate voltage. This phenomenon is attributed to the level occupation switching which has been previously invoked to explain the universal transmission phase slips in the conductance through a quantum dot. We use analytica…
