We consider nonlocal correlations in iron in the vicinity of the $α$-$γ$ phase transition within the spin-rotationally-invariant dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) approach, combined with the recently proposed spin-fermion model of iron. The obtained nonlocal corrections to DMFT yield a decrease of the Curie temperature of the $α$ phase, leading to an agreement with its experimental value. We show that the corresponding nonlocal corrections to the energy of the $α$ phase are crucially important to obtain the proximity of energies of $α$ and $γ$ phases in the vicinity of the iron $α$-$γ$ transformation.
We analyze the momentum- and temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibilities and magnetic exchange interaction in paramagnetic bcc iron by a combination of density functional theory and dynamical mean-field theory (DFT+DMFT). By considering a general derivation of the orbital-resolved effective model for spin degrees of freedom for Hund's metals, we relate momentum-dependent susceptibilities in the paramagnetic phase to the magnetic exchange. We then calculate non-uniform orbital-resolved susceptibilities at high-symmetry wave vectors by constructing appropriate supercells in the DMFT…
We present a comparative electronic structure study using DFT and various beyond-DFT (DFT+$U$, $G_0W_0$, DFT+DMFT) methods for ferromagnetic Iron (Fe) to find better approach for describing the spectral properties of correlated magnetic system. The computed value of $U$ ($W$) is $\sim$5.4 ($\sim$0.8) eV. The calculated spectra of all methods are providing good agreement with experimental spectra (ES) for peaks' positions. But, the proper line shape is only found from DFT+DMFT with correct estimation of incoherent states, which depends on $J$ and form of local Coulomb interactions. The estimati…
We investigate electronic structure of the new iron chalcogenide high temperature superconductor K{1-x}Fe{2-y}Se2 (hole doped case with x=0.24, y=0.28) in the normal phase using the novel LDA'+DMFT computational approach. We show that this iron chalcogenide is more correlated in a sense of bandwidth renormalization (energy scale compression by factor about 5 in the interval +/-1.5 eV), than typical iron pnictides (compression factor about 2), though the Coulomb interaction strength is almost the same in both families. Our results for spectral densities are in general agreement with recent ARPE…
We introduce a cluster DMFT (Dynamical Mean Field Theory) approach to study the normal state of the iron pnictides and chalcogenides. In the regime of moderate mass renormalizations, the self-energy is very local, justifying the success of single site DMFT for these materials and for other Hunds metals. We solve the corresponding impurity model with CTQMC (Continuous Time Quantum Monte-Carlo) and find that the minus sign problem is not severe in regimes of moderate mass renormalization.
While in strongly correlated materials one often focuses on local electronic correlations, the influence of non-local exchange and correlation effects beyond band-theory can be pertinent in systems with more extended orbitals. Thus in many compounds an adequate theoretical description requires the joint treatment of local and non-local self-energies. Here, I will argue that this is the case for the iron pnictide and chalcogenide superconductors. As an approach to tackle their electronic structure, I will detail the implementation of the recently proposed scheme that combines the quasi-particle…
We present an ab initio quantum theory of the finite temperature magnetism of iron and nickel. A recently developed technique which combines dynamical mean-field theory with realistic electronic structure methods, successfully describes the many-body features of the one electron spectra and the observed magnetic moments below and above the Curie temperature.
We have investigated the electron correlation effect on the electronic structures and transport properties of the iron-based superconductors using the density functional theory (DFT) and dynamical mean field theory (DMFT). By considering the Fe 3d electron correlation using the DMFT, the bandwidth near the Fermi level is substantially suppressed compared to the conventional DFT calculation. Because of the different renormalization factors of each 3d orbital, the DMFT gives considerably reduced electrical anisotropy compared to the DFT results, which explains the unusually small anisotropic res…
For reliable and efficient inclusion of electron-electron correlation effects in nanosystems we propose a combined density-functional-theory/nonhomogeneous dynamical-mean-field-theory (DFT + DMFT) approach which employs an approximate Iterative Perturbative Theory (IPT) impurity solver. The validity of the method is demonstrated by successful examination of the size-dependent magnetic properties of iron nanoparticles containing 11-100 atoms. We show that the DFT+ DMFT solution is in very good agreement with experimental data, in particular it does not lead to the overestimation of magnetizatio…
LDA+DMFT (Local Density Approximation combined with Dynamical Mean-Field Theory) computation scheme has been used to calculate spectral properties of LaFeAsO -- the parent compound of the new high-T_c iron oxypnictides. The average Coulomb repulsion U=3-4 eV and Hund's exchange J=0.8 eV parameters for iron 3d electrons were calculated using the first principles constrained density functional theory scheme in the Wannier functions formalism. DMFT calculations using these parameters result in moderately correlated electronic structure with effective electron mass enhancement m^*~2 that is in agr…
The temperature dependence of the paramagnetic susceptibility of the iron pnictide superconductor KFe2As2 and its connection with the spectral properties of that material is investigated by a combination of density functional theory (DFT) in the local density approximation and dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). Unlike other iron pnictide parent compounds where the typical oxidation state of iron is 2, the formal valence of Fe in KFe2As2 is 2.5, corresponding to an effective doping with 0.5 hole per iron atom compared to, for example, BaFe2As2. This shifts the chemical potential and thereby re…
We present an approach that combines the local density approximation (LDA) and the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) in the framework of the full-potential linear augmented plane waves (FLAPW) method. Wannier-like functions for the correlated shell are constructed by projecting local orbitals onto a set of Bloch eigenstates located within a certain energy window. The screened Coulomb interaction and Hund's coupling are calculated from a first-principle constrained RPA scheme. We apply this LDA+DMFT implementation, in conjunction with continuous-time quantum Monte-Carlo, to study the electroni…
We present the results of extended theoretical LDA+DMFT calculations for a new iron-pnictide high temperature superconductor NaFeAs compared with the recent high quality angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) experiments on this system [1]. The universal manifestation of correlation effects in iron-pnictides is narrowing of conducting bands near the Fermi level. Our calculations demonstrate that for NaFeAs the effective mass is renormalized on average by a factor of the order of 3, in good agreement with ARPES data. This is essentially due to correlation effects on Fe-3d orbitals only and no add…
We present a generalization of the spin-fluctuation theory of magnetism which allows us to treat the full rotational invariance of the exchange interaction. The approach is formulated in terms of the local density approximation plus dynamical mean-field theory (LDA+DMFT), providing a systematic many-body treatment of the effect of spin-density fluctuations. This technique is employed to study the electronic and magnetic properties of paramagnetic $α$ iron. Our result for the Curie temperature is in good agreement with experiment, while the calculations with the Ising-type exchange interaction …
The electronic spectral function of BaNi$_2$As$_2$ is investigated using both the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and a combined computational scheme of local density approximation together with dynamical mean-field theory (LDA+DMFT). In contrast to well studied isostructural iron arsenide high temperature superconductors, the BaNi$_2$As$_2$ demonstrate weak correlation effects although Ni-3d elections have even lager on-site interaction than Fe-3d ones. LDA+DMFT effective mass enhancement for bands crossing the Fermi level is found to be only about $1.2$ which agrees well wi…
$α$-FeSe, a prototype iron-chalcogenide superconductor, shows clear signatures of a strange incoherent normal state. Motivated thereby, we use LDA+DMFT to show how strong multi-band correlations generate a low-energy pseudogap in the normal state, giving an incoherent metal in very good semi-quantitative agreement with observations. We interpret our results in terms of $α$-FeSe being close to Mottness. A wide range of anomalous responses in the "normal" state are consistently explained, lending strong support for this view. Implications for superconductivity arising from such an anomalous stat…
We present a computational scheme for total energy calculations of disordered alloys with strong electronic correlations. It employs the coherent potential approximation combined with the dynamical mean-field theory and allows one to study the structural transformations. The material-specific Hamiltonians in the Wannier function basis are obtained by density functional theory. The proposed computational scheme is applied to study the ${γ\textrm{-}\varepsilon}$ structural transition in paramagnetic Fe-Mn alloys for Mn content from 10 to 20 at. %. The electronic correlations are found to play a …
We discuss the role of dynamical many-electron effects in the physics of iron and iron-rich solid alloys under applied pressure on the basis of recent ab initio studies employing the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). Electronic correlations in iron in the moderate pressure range up to 60 GPa are discussed in the first section. DMFT-based methods predict an enhancement of electronic correlations at the pressure-induced transition from body-centered cubic (bcc) alpha-Fe to hexagonal close-packed (hcp) epsilon-Fe. In particular, the electronic effective mass, scattering rate and electron-electr…
The importance of many-body effects on electronic and magnetic properties and stability of different structural phases was studied in novel iron oxide - Fe$_2$O. It was found that while Hubbard repulsion hardly affects the electronic spectrum of this material ($m^*/m \sim 1.2$), but it strongly changes its phase diagram shifting critical pressures of structural transitions to much lower values. Moreover, one of the previously obtained in the density functional theory (DFT) structures (P$\bar 3$m1) becomes energetically unstable if many-body effects are taken into consideration. It is shown tha…
We have performed sound velocity measurements in (V$_{1-x}$Cr$_x$)$_2$O$_3$ in the vicinity of the critical point of the first order Mott transition line. The pressure sweeps at constant temperature reveal a large dip in the $c_{33}$ compression modulus, this dip sharpens as the critical point is approached. We do not observe signs of criticality on the shear modulus $c_{44}$ which is consistent with a transition governed by a scalar order parameter, in accordance with the DMFT description of the transition. However, the amplitude of the effect is an order of magnitude smaller than the one obt…
Observation of an anomalous temperature dependence of the spin susceptibility, along with a spin gap in NMR, in the quantum paramagnetic normal state of Iron Pnictides is a signature of an unusual metallic state. We argue that both these anomalous features are associated with a wide fluctuational regime dominated by dynamical, short-ranged and frustrated spin correlations in a strongly correlated metal. Using LDA+DMFT, we show that both these features can be quantitatively undertstood in the doped Fe-pnictides. We argue that such spin correlations naturally arise in a Mottness scenario, where …
We study the momentum- and temperature dependencies of magnetic susceptibilities and magnetic exchange in paramagnetic fcc iron by a combination of density functional theory and supercell dynamical mean-field theory (DFT+DMFT). We find that in agreement with experimental results the antiferromagnetic correlations with the wave vector close to $(0,0,2π)$ dominate at low temperatures (as was also obtained previously theoretically), while the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic correlations closely compete at the temperatures $T\sim 1000$ K, where $γ$-iron exists in nature. Inverse staggered susc…
We consider the role played by the 4f states in the rare-earth oxyarsenides REOFeAs (RE=Ce,Pr,Nd) and the oxyphosphate CeOFeP, using a first-principles technique that combines the local density approximation and dynamical mean-field theory (LDA+DMFT). In the Pr and Nd compounds, the 4f states are located well below and above the Fermi level E_F, and essentially do not interact with the iron 3d bands located near E_F, resulting in local moment behavior. In the Ce compounds, our results reveal a qualitatively different picture, with the 3d-4f hybridization being sufficiently strong to give rise …
We study the Hubbard model at half band-filling on a Bethe lattice with infinite coordination number in the paramagnetic insulating phase at zero temperature. We use the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) mapping to a single-impurity Anderson model with a bath whose properties have to be determined self-consistently. For a controlled and systematic implementation of the self-consistency scheme we use the fixed-energy (FE) approach to the DMFT. In FE-DMFT the onset and the width of the Hubbard bands are adjusted self-consistently but the energies of the bath levels are kept fixed relatively to …
Electronic correlations were long suggested not only to be responsible for the complexity of many novel materials, but also to form essential prerequisites for their intriguing properties. Electronic behavior of iron-based superconductors is far from conventional, while the reason for that is not yet understood. Here we present a combined study of the electronic spectrum in the iron-based superconductor FeSe by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and dynamical mean field theory (DMFT). Both methods in unison reveal strong deviations of the spectrum from single-electron a…
The correlated electronic structure of iron, cobalt and nickel is investigated within the dynamical mean-field theory formalism, using the newly developed full-potential LMTO-based LDA+DMFT code. Detailed analysis of the calculated electron self-energy, density of states and the spectral density are presented for these metals. It has been found that all these elements show strong correlation effects for majority spin electrons, such as strong damping of quasiparticles and formation of a density of states satellite at about -7 eV below the Fermi level. The LDA+DMFT data for fcc nickel and cobal…
The anisotropic two-orbital Hubbard model with different bandwidths and degrees of frustration in each orbital is investigated in the framework of both single-site dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) as well as its cluster extension (DCA) for clusters up to four sites combined with a continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo algorithm. This model shows a rich phase diagram which includes the appearance of orbital selective phase transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior as well as antiferromagnetic metallic states. We discuss the advantages and drawbacks of employing the single-site DMFT with respect to…
We revisit a problem of theoretical description of alpha-iron. By performing LDA+DMFT calculations in the paramagnetic phase we find that Coulomb interaction and, in particular Hund exchange, yields the formation of local moments in e_g electron band, which can be traced from imaginary time dependence of the spin-spin correlation function. This behavior is accompanied by non-Fermi-liquid behavior of e_g electrons and suggests using local moment variables in the effective model of iron. By investigating orbital-selective contributions to the Curie-Weiss law for Hund exchange I=0.9 eV we obtain …
We consider electronic correlation effects and their impact on magnetic properties of tetragonally distorted chemically ordered FeCo alloys (L1$_0$ structure) being a promising candidate for rare-earth-free permanent magnets. We employ a state-of-the-art method combining density functional and dynamical mean-field theory. According to our results, the predicted Curie temperature reduces with increase of lattice parameters ratio $c/a$ and reaches nearly 850 K at ${c/a=1.22}$. For all considered $c/a$ from 1 to $\sqrt{2}$, we find well-localized magnetic moments on Fe sites, which are formed due…

Applying the local density approximation (LDA) and dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) to paramagnetic $α$-iron, we revisit a problem of theoretical description of its magnetic properties. The analysis of local magnetic susceptibility shows that at sufficiently low temperatures $T<1500K$, both, $e_{g}$ and $t_{2g}$ states equally contribute to the formation of the effective magnetic moment with spin S=1. The self-energy of t_{2g} states shows sizable deviations from Fermi-liquid form, which accompanies earlier found non-quasiparticle form of e_{g} states. By considering the non-uniform magnetic…
LDA+DMFT (Local Density Approximation combined with Dynamical Mean-Field Theory) computation scheme has been used to calculate spectral properties of LaFeAsO -- the parent compound for new high-T$_c$ iron oxypnictides. Coulomb repulsion $U$ and Hund's exchange $J$ parameters for iron 3d electrons were calculated using \textit {first principles} constrained density functional theory scheme in Wannier functions formalism. Resulting values strongly depend on the number of states taken into account in calculations: when full set of O-$2p$, As-$4p$, and Fe-3d orbitals with corresponding bands are i…
Iron oxide is a key compound to understand the state of the deep Earth. It has been believed that previously known oxides such as FeO and Fe2O3 will be dominant at the mantle conditions. However, recent observation of FeO2 shed another light to the composition of the deep lower mantle (DLM) and thus understanding of the physical properties of FeO2 will be critical to model DLM. Here, we report the electronic structure and structural properties of FeO2 by using density functional theory (DFT) and dynamic mean field theory (DMFT). The crystal structure of FeO2 is composed of Fe2+ and O2 2- dimer…
An ab initio study of the electronic and spin configuration for the iron ion in the active center of the human hemoglobin molecule is presented. It is well known that the iron ion, being surrounded by the porphyrin ring and the ligands, plays the key role in the realization of the basic oxygen-transport functions of the molecule. This work is focused on the investigation the features of the 3$d$-shell electronic states of the iron ion located inside the active center of the hemoglobin molecule. Also in this paper we study in detail the changes in these states occurring during the oxidation pro…
We investigate the role of correlations in the tetragonal and collapsed tetragonal phases of CaFe2As2 by performing charge self-consistent DFT+DMFT (density functional theory combined with dynamical mean-field theory) calculations. While the topology of the Fermi surface is basically unaffected by the inclusion of correlation effects, we find important orbital-dependent mass renormalizations which show good agreement with recent angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) experiments. Moreover, we observe a markedly different behavior of these quantities between the low-pressure tetragonal and the hi…
The momentum distribution function (MDF) bands of iron-group transition metals from Sc to Cu have been investigated on the basis of the first-principles momentum dependent local ansatz wavefunction method. It is found that the MDF for $d$ electrons show a strong momentum dependence and a large deviation from the Fermi-Dirac distribution function along high-symmetry lines of the first Brillouin zone, while the $sp$ electrons behave as independent electrons. In particular, the deviation in bcc Fe (fcc Ni) is shown to be enhanced by the narrow $e_{g}$ ($t_{2g}$) bands with flat dispersion in the …
We study the ground-state magnetism of the half-filled Hubbard model on the anisotropic triangular lattice, where two out of three bonds have hopping $t$ and the third one has $t^\prime$ in a unit triangle. Working in a spin-rotating frame and using the density matrix renormalization group method as an impurity solver, we provide a proper description of incommensurate magnetizations at zero temperature in the framework of the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). It is shown that the incommensurate spiral magnetic order for $t^\prime/t\gtrsim 0.7$ survives the dynamical fluctuations of itinerant…
We present a new quantum molecular dynamics (MD) method where the electronic structure and atomic forces are solved by a real-space dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). Contrary to most quantum MD methods that are based on effective single-particle wave functions, the DMFT approach is able to describe correlation-induced Mott metal-insulator transitions and the associated incoherent electronic excitations in an atomic liquid. We apply the DMFT-MD method to study Mott transitions in an atomic liquid model which can be viewed as the liquid-state generalization of the Hubbard model. The half-fille…
The superconducting (SC) state of iron-based compounds in both tetragonal and orthorhombic phases is studied on the basis of an effective Hamiltonian composed of the kinetic energy including the five Fe 3d-orbitals, the orthorhombic crystalline electric field (CEF) energy, and the two-orbital Kugel'-Khomskiĭ-type superexchange interaction. Our basic assumption is that the antiferromagnetic (AF) state in the parent compounds can be described by the $d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ orbitals, and that the electrons in these orbitals have relatively strong electron correlation in the vicinity of the AF state…
We study the one-band Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice using a combination of quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations and static as well as dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). This model is known to show a quantum phase transition between a Dirac semi-metal and the antiferromagnetic insulator. The aim of this article is to provide a detailed comparison between these approaches by computing static properties, notably ground-state energy, single-particle gap, double occupancy, and staggered magnetization, as well as dynamical quantities such as the single-particle spectral function. At the s…
We investigate signatures of electronic correlations in the narrow-gap semiconductor FeGa$_3$ by means of electrical resistivity and thermodynamic measurements performed on single crystals of FeGa$_3$, Fe$_{1-x}$Mn$_x$Ga$_3$ and FeGa$_{3-y}$Zn$_y$, complemented by a study of the 4$d$ analog material RuGa$_3$. We find that the inclusion of sizable amounts of Mn and Zn dopants into FeGa$_3$ does not induce an insulator-to-metal transition. Our study indicates that both substitution of Zn onto the Ga site and replacement of Fe by Mn introduces states into the semiconducting gap that remain locali…
We present a detailed theoretical study of the electronic, magnetic, and structural properties of magnesiowüstite Fe$_{1-x}$Mg$_x$O with $x$ in the range between 0$-$0.875 using a fully charge self-consistent implementation of the density functional theory plus dynamical mean-field theory (DFT+DMFT) method. In particular, we compute the electronic structure and phase stability of the rock-salt B1-structured (Fe,Mg)O at high pressures relevant for the Earth's lower mantle. We obtain that upon compression paramagnetic (Fe,Mg)O exhibits a spin-state transition of Fe$^{2+}$ ions from a high-spin t…
The recently discovered K-Fe-Se high temperature superconductor has caused heated debate regarding the nature of its parent compound. Transport, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and STM measurements have suggested that its parent compound could be insulating, semiconducting or even metallic [M. H. Fang, H.-D. Wang, C.-H. Dong, Z.-J. Li, C.-M. Feng, J. Chen, and H. Q. Yuan, Europhys. Lett. 94, 27009 (2011); F. Chen et al. Phys. Rev. X 1, 021020 (2011); and W. Li et al.,Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 057003 (2012)]. Because the magnetic ground states associated with these different phases have …
The effects of electron-electron correlations on the low-energy electronic structure and their relationship with unconventional superconductivity are central aspects in the research on the iron-based pnictide superconductors. Here we use soft X-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SX-ARPES) to study how electronic correlations evolve in different chemically substituted iron pnictides. We find that correlations are intrinsically related to the effective filling of the correlated orbitals, rather than to the filling obtained by valence counting. Combined density functional theory (DFT)…
Motivated by recent experiments and computational results on pyrochlore iridates, we compare single-particle properties of Y2Ir2O7 obtained from single-site dynamical mean-field calculations with results within the TRILEX approximation, where the latter takes non-local correlations into account. Our calculations are all based on ab-initio calculations within density-functional theory, and take spin-orbit coupling into account. In order to make the treatment within TRILEX feasible, we first define a single-band jeff = 1/2 model, by comparing its spectral features within DMFT to a three-band mod…
The newly discovered 112-type ferropnictide superconductors contain chains of As atoms that break the tetragonal symmetry between the $a$ and $b$ axes. This feature eliminates the need for uniaxial strain that is usually required to stabilize large single domains in the electronic nematic state that exists in the vicinity of magnetic order in the iron-based superconductors. We report detailed structural symmetry measurements of 112-type Ca$_{0.73}$La$_{0.27}$FeAs$_{2}$ using rotational anisotropy optical second harmonic generation. This technique is complementary to diffraction experiments and…
The recently discovered high-T$_c$ superconductor Ca$_{1-x}$La$_{x}$FeAs$_{2}$ is a unique compound not only because of its low symmetry crystal structure, but also because of its electronic structure which hosts Dirac-like metallic bands resulting from (spacer) zig-zag As chains. We present a comprehensive first principles theoretical study of the electronic and crystal structures of Ca$_{1-x}$La$_{x}$FeAs$_{2}$. After discussing the connection between the crystal structure of the 112 family, which Ca$_{1-x}$La$_{x}$FeAs$_{2}$ is a member of, with the other known structures of Fe pnictide sup…
We construct the symmetry adapted low energy effective Hamiltonian for the electronic states in the vicinity of the Fermi level in iron based superconductors. We use Luttinger's method of invariants, expanding about Gamma and M points in the Brillouin zone corresponding to two iron unit cell, and then matching the coefficients of the expansion to the 5- and 8-band models. We then use the method of invariants to study the effects of the spin-density wave order parameters on the electronic spectrum, with and without spin-orbit coupling included. Among the results of this analysis is the finding …
Superconductivity in the iron pnictides and chalcogenides is closely connected to a bad-metal normal state and a nearby antiferromagnetic order. Therefore, considerable attention has been focused on the role of electron correlations and spin dynamics. In this article, we summarize some key experiments that quite directly imply strong electron correlations in these materials, and discuss aspects of the recent theoretical studies on these issues. In particular, we outline a $w$-expansion, which treats the correlation effects using the Mott transition as the reference point. For the parent system…
We report ultrafast quasiparticle (QP) dynamics and coherent acoustic phonons in undoped CaFe_2As_2 iron pnictide single crystals exhibiting spin-density wave (SDW) and concurrent structural phase transition at temperature TSDW ~ 165 K using femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy. The contributions in transient differential reflectivity arising from exponentially decaying QP relaxation and oscillatory coherent acoustic phonon mode show large variations in the vicinity of T_SDW. From the temperature-dependence of the QP recombination dynamics in the SDW phase, we evaluate a BCS-like …
High pressure can provoke spin transitions in transition metal-bearing compounds. These transitions are of high interest not only for fundamental physics and chemistry, but also may have important implications for geochemistry and geophysics of the Earth and planetary interiors. Here we have carried out a comparative study of the pressure-induced spin transition in compounds with trivalent iron, octahedrally coordinated by oxygen. High-pressure single-crystal Mössbauer spectroscopy data for FeBO$_3$, Fe$_2$O$_3$ and Fe$_3$(Fe$_{1.766(2)}$Si$_{0.234(2)}$)(SiO$_4$)$_3$ are presented together wit…
We use neutron scattering to study spin excitations in single crystals of LiFe$_{0.88}$Co$_{0.12}$As, which is located near the boundary of the superconducting phase of LiFe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$As and exhibits non-Fermi-liquid behavior indicative of a quantum critical point. By comparing spin excitations of LiFe$_{0.88}$Co$_{0.12}$As with a combined density functional theory (DFT) and dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) calculation, we conclude that wave-vector correlated low energy spin excitations are mostly from the $d_{xy}$ orbitals, while high-energy spin excitations arise from the $d_{yz}$ and…
Nonequilibrium quasiparticle relaxation dynamics is reported in superconducting CaFe1.89Co0.11As2 single crystal using femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy. The carrier dynamics reflects a three-channel decay of laser deposited energy with characteristic time scales varying from few hundreds of femtoseconds to order of few nanoseconds where the amplitudes and time-constants of the individual electronic relaxation components show significant changes in the vicinity of the spin density wave (T_SDW ~ 85 K) and superconducting (T_SC ~ 20 K) phase transition temperatures. The quasipart…
A U(1) slave-spin representation is introduced for multi-orbital Hubbard models. As with the $Z_2$ form of L. de'Medici et al. (Phys. Rev. B 72, 205124 (2005)), this approach represents a physical electron operator as the product of a slave spin and an auxiliary fermion operator. For non-degenerate multi-orbital models, our U(1) approach is advantageous in that it captures the non-interacting limit at the mean-field level. For systems with either a single orbital or degenerate multiple orbitals, the U(1) and $Z_2$ slave-spin approachs yield the same results in the slave-spin-condensed phase. I…
