LDA+DMFT (Local Density Approximation combined with Dynamical Mean-Field Theory) computation scheme has been used to calculate spectral properties of LaFeAsO -- the parent compound for new high-T$_c$ iron oxypnictides. Coulomb repulsion $U$ and Hund's exchange $J$ parameters for iron 3d electrons were calculated using \textit {first principles} constrained density functional theory scheme in Wannier functions formalism. Resulting values strongly depend on the number of states taken into account in calculations: when full set of O-$2p$, As-$4p$, and Fe-3d orbitals with corresponding bands are included, computation results in $U=3÷$4 eV and J=0.8 eV. In contrast to that when the basis set is restricted to Fe-3d orbitals and bands only, computation gives much smaller parameter values $F^0$=0.8 eV, $J$=0.5 eV. However, DMFT calculations with both parameter sets and corresponding to them choice of basis functions result in weakly correlated electronic structure that is in agreement with experimental X-ray and photoemission spectra.

Effective Hamiltonians for LaFeAsO and LaFePO are derived from the downfolding scheme based on first-principles calculations and provide insights for newly discovered superconductivity in the family of LnFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$, Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, and Gd. Extended Hubbard Hamiltonians for five maximally localized Wannier orbitals per Fe are constructed dominantly from five-fold degenerate iron-3$d$ bands. They contain parameters for effective Coulomb and exchange interactions screened by the polarization of other electrons away from the Fermi level. The onsite Coulomb interaction estimated as…
We study the effect of Coulomb repulsion between oxygen holes on the London penetration depth $λ$ based on the concept of spin-polaron nature of Fermi quasiparticles in cuprates superconductors. It is shown that for the generally accepted values of the parameters of the spin-fermion model, taking into account the Coulomb interaction, both the one-site Hubbard $U_p$ and interaction between the holes on next-nearest-neighbor oxygen ions $V_2$, allows one to achieve a much better agreement of the calculated temperature dependencies of the value $λ^{-2}$ with the experimental data in La$_{2-x}$Sr$…
We have analysed the effect of intrinsic doping inhomogeneity and the presence of stripes in high-T_c superconductors on coupling λby using a simple analytically solvable model with an angular dependent λ(ϕ) represented by a square-well form. We have found that the introduction of the Coulomb repulsion λ_C, increasing the ''contrast'' | λ| + | λ_C |, or the depth of the angular modulation of λ(ϕ), leads to a remarkable enhancement of T_c. This effect can be optimized by combining attractive (λ<0) and repulsive (λ>0) interactions along stripes and perpendicular to them.
We study analytically and numerically dynamics and eigenstates of two electrons with Coulomb repulsion on a tight-binding lattice in one and two dimensions. The total energy and momentum of electrons are conserved and we show that for a certain momentum range the dynamics is exactly reduced to an evolution in an effective narrow energy band where the energy conservation forces the two electrons to propagate together through the whole system at moderate or even weak repulsion strength. We argue that such a mechanism of electron pair formation by the repulsive Coulomb interaction is rather gener…
Dynamic cluster quantum Monte Carlo calculations for a doped two-dimensional extended Hubbard model are used to study the stability and dynamics of $d$-wave pairing when a near neighbor Coulomb repulsion $V$ is present in addition to the on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$. We find that $d$-wave pairing and the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ are only weakly suppressed as long as $V$ does not exceed $U/2$. This stability is traced to the strongly retarded nature of pairing that allows the $d$-wave pairs to minimize the repulsive effect of $V$. When $V$ approaches $U/2$, large momentum c…
The majority of fulleride superconductors with unusually high transition-temperature to kinetic-energy ratios have a face-centred-cubic (FCC) structure. We demonstrate that, within extended Hubbard models with strong Coulomb repulsion, paired fermions in FCC lattices have qualitatively different properties than pairs in other three-dimensional cubic lattices. Our results show that strongly bound, light, and small pairs can be generated in FCC lattices across a wide range of the parameter space. We estimate that such pairs can Bose condense at high temperatures even if the lattice constant is l…
We study a lattice bipolaron on a staggered triangular ladder and triangular and hexagonal lattices with both long-range electron-phonon interaction and strong Coulomb repulsion using a novel continuous-time quantum Monte-Carlo (CTQMC) algorithm extended to the Coulomb-Frohlich model with two particles. The algorithm is preceded by an exact integration over phonon degrees of freedom, and as such is extremely efficient. The bipolaron effective mass and bipolaron radius are computed. Lattice bipolarons on such lattices have a novel crablike motion, and are small but very light in a wide range of…
We study the effect of interlayer Coulomb interaction in an electronic double layer. Assuming that each of the layers consists of a bipartite lattice, a sufficiently strong interlayer interaction leads to an interlayer pairing of electrons with a staggered order parameter. We show that the correlated pairing state is dual to the excitonic pairing state with uniform order parameter in an electron-hole double layer. The interlayer pairing of electrons leads to strong current-current correlations between the layers. We also analyze the interlayer conductivity and the fluctuations of the order par…
We observe the effect of non-zero magnetization m onto the superconducting ground state of the one dimensional repulsive Hubbard model with correlated hopping X. For t/2 < X < 2t/3, the system first manifests Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) oscillations in the pair-pair correlations. For m = m1 a kinetic energy driven macroscopic phase separation into low-density superconducting domains and high-density polarized walls takes place. For m > m2 the domains fully localize, and the system eventually becomes a ferrimagnetic insulator.
We investigate the superconductivity of 3D Luttinger semimetals, such as YPtBi, where Cooper pairs are constituted of spin-3/2 quasiparticles. Various pairing mechanisms have already been considered for these semimetals, such as from polar phonons modes, and in this work we explore pairing from the screened electron-electron Coulomb repulsion. In these materials, the small Fermi energy and the spin-orbit coupling strongly influence how charge fluctuations can mediate pairing. We find the superconducting critical temperature as a function of doping for an s-wave order parameter, and determine i…
Recently, Prakash et. al. have discovered bulk superconductivity in single crystals of bismuth, which is a semi metal with extremely low carrier density. At such low density, we argue that conventional electron-phonon coupling is too weak to be responsible for the binding of electrons into Cooper pairs. We study a dynamically screened Coulomb interaction with effective attraction generated on the scale of the collective plasma modes. We model the electronic states in bismuth to include three Dirac pockets with high velocity and one hole pocket with a significantly smaller velocity. We find a w…
We study superconductivity driven by screened Coulomb repulsion in three-dimensional Luttinger semimetals with a quadratic band touching and strong spin-orbit coupling. In these semimetals, the Cooper pairs are formed by spin-3/2 fermions with non-trivial wavefunctions. We numerically solve the linear Eliashberg equation to obtain the critical temperature of a singlet s-wave gap function as a function of doping, with account of spin-orbit and self-energy corrections. In order to understand the underlying mechanism of superconductivity, we compute the sensitivity of the critical temperature to …
The analytical expression for dynamical charge susceptibility in layered cuprates has been derived in the frame of singlet-correlated band model beyond random-phase-approximation (RPA) scheme. Our calculations performed near optimal doping regime show that there is a peak in real part of the charge susceptibility $χ({\bf q},ω)$ at {\bf Q} = ($π$, $π$) at strong enough inter-site Coulomb repulsion. Together with the strong maximum in the Im $χ({\bf Q},ω)$ at 15 meV it confirms the formation of low-energetic plasmons or charge fluctuations. This provides a jsutification that these excitations ar…
The two-dimensional boson-fermion model of high-temperature superconductors, numerically studied by Domanski (Phys. Rev. B v.66, 134512 (2002)) is not a superconductor. The critical temperature of the model is zero for any symmetry of the order parameter. The opposite conclusion advocated by Domanski and some other authors stems from an erroneous mean-field approximation neglecting the boson self-energy. The approximation is qualitatively incorrect even in three dimensions. Taking into account the boson self-energy changes the phase transition in 3D BFM, which is not a mean-field second-order …
We study the difference between on site Hubbard and long range Coulomb repulsions for two interacting particles in a disordered chain. While Hubbard repulsion can only yield weak critical chaos with intermediate spectral statistics, Coulomb repulsion can drive the two particle system to quantum chaos with Wigner-Dyson spectral statistics. For intermediate strengths U of the two repulsions in one dimension, there is a crossover regime where delocalization and spectral rigidity are maximum, whereas the limits of weak and strong U are characterized by a stronger localization and uncorrelated ener…
We present an approach that combines the local density approximation (LDA) and the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) in the framework of the full-potential linear augmented plane waves (FLAPW) method. Wannier-like functions for the correlated shell are constructed by projecting local orbitals onto a set of Bloch eigenstates located within a certain energy window. The screened Coulomb interaction and Hund's coupling are calculated from a first-principle constrained RPA scheme. We apply this LDA+DMFT implementation, in conjunction with continuous-time quantum Monte-Carlo, to study the electroni…
We investigate the effect of on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$ on the band gap of the electrically gated bilayer graphene by employing coherent potential approximation in the paramagnetic state, based on an ionic two-layer Hubbard model. We find that, while either the on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$ or the external perpendicular electric field $E$ alone will favor a gapped state in the bilayer graphene, competition between them will surprisingly lead to a suppression of the gap amplitude. Our results can be applied to understand the discrepancies of gap size reported from optical and transport measu…
Superconducting mechanism mediated by interband exchange Coulomb repulsion is examined in an extended two-band Hubbard models with a wide band crossing the Fermi level and coexisting with a narrower band located at moderately lower energy. We apply newly developed path-integral renormalization group method to reliably calculate pairing correlations. The correlation shows marked enhancement at moderate amplitudes of the exchange Coulomb repulsion taken smaller than the on-site repulsion for the narrower band. The pairing symmetry is s-wave while it has unconventional phases with the opposite si…
We represent the superconducting ceramic compounds by the single band extended Hubbard model. We solve this model for the simultaneous presence of antiferromagnetism and the d-wave superconductivity in the Hartree-Fock (H-F) and in the coherent potential (CP) approximation, which is applied to the on-site Coulomb repulsion U. The hopping interaction used in addition to the Coulomb repulsion causes rapid expansion of the band at carrier concentrations departing from unity. This expansion shifts the d-wave superconductivity away from the half filled point reducing its occupation range approximat…
A tight binding model of electrons interacting via bare Coulomb repulsion is numerically investigated by use of the Density Matrix Renormalization Group method which we prove applicable also to very long range potentials. From the analysis of the elementary excitations, of the spin and charge correlation functions and of the momentum distribution, a picture consistent with the formation of a one dimensional "Wigner crystal" emerges, in quantitative agreement with a previous bosonization study. At finite doping, Umklapp scattering is shown to be ineffective in the presence of long range forces.
We use core-valence-valence (CVV) Auger spectra to probe the Coulomb repulsion between holes in the valence band of Fe pnictide superconductors. By comparing the two-hole final state spectra to density functional theory calculations of the single particle density of states, we extract a measure of the electron correlations that exist in these systems. Our results show that the Coulomb repulsion is highly screened and can definitively be considered as weak. We also find that there are differences between the 1111 and 122 families and even a small variation as a function of the doping, x, in Ba(…
Recently a new phenomenological Hamiltonian has been proposed to describe the superconducting cuprates. This so-called Gossamer Hamiltonian is an apt model for a superconductor with strong on-site Coulomb repulsion betweenthe electrons. It is shown that as one approaches half-filling the Gossamer superconductor, and hence the superconducting state, with strong repulsion is unstable toward an antiferromagnetic insulator an can undergo a quantum phase transition to such an insulator if one increases the on-site Coulomb repulsion.
The role of Coulomb correlations in the iron pnictide LaFeAsO is studied by generalizing exact diagonalization dynamical mean field theory to five orbitals. For rotationally invariant Hund's rule coupling a continuous transition from a paramagnetic Fermi-liquid phase to a non-Fermi-liquid metallic phase exhibiting frozen moments is found at moderate Coulomb energies. For Ising-like exchange, this transition is first order and occurs at a lower critical Coulomb energy. The correlation-induced scattering rate as a function of doping relative to half-filling, i.e., delta = n/5-1, where n=6 for th…
With a variational three--body calculation we study the role of the interplay between the onsite Coulomb, Hund's rule, and superexchange interactions on the spinwave excitation spectrum of itinerant ferromagnets. We show that correlations between a Fermi sea electron--hole pair and a magnon result in a very pronounced zone boundary softening and strong deviations from the Heisenberg spinwave dispersion. We show that this spin dynamics depends sensitively on the Coulomb and exchange interactions and discuss its possible relevance to experiments in the manganites.
We show that in anharmonic one-dimensional crystal lattices pairing of electrons or holes in a localized bisolectron state is possible due to coupling between the charges and the lattice deformation that can overcompensate the Coulomb repulsion. Such localized soliton-like states appear as traveling ground bound singlet states of two extra electrons in the potential well created by the local lattice deformation. We also find the first excited localized state of two electrons in a soliton-like lattice deformation potential well given by a triplet state of two electrons. The results of the analy…
We calculate the effective Coulomb interactions between holes in dimers of the organic molecule BEDT-TTF in vacuo. We use density functional theory (DFT) to parameterise Hubbard models for beta and kappa phase organic charge transfer salts. We focus on the intra-dimer Coulomb repulsion, U_d, and the inter-monomer Coulomb repulsion, V_m. We find that U_d = 3.22 \pm 0.09 eV and V_m = 2.71 \pm 0.10 eV for 23 experimental geometries taken from a range of materials in both polymorphs. The quoted error is one standard deviation over the set of conformations studied. We conclude that U_d and V_m are …
We consider the bipolaron in the Pekar--Tomasevich approximation and address the question whether the ground state is spherically symmetric or not. Numerical analysis has, so far, not completely settled the question. Our contribution is to prove rigorously that the ground state remains spherical for small values of the electron-electron Coulomb repulsion.
The non-crossing approximation (NCA) is generalized for the Anderson model with finite Coulomb repulsion U. Resummation of infinite number of terms is performed so as to incorporate all leading contributions in the limit of large degeneracy of the local states. With negligible weight of the doubly occupied local states in equilibrium, the extension is achieved through simple modifications of the lowest order formulae. The single-particle excitation spectrum is calculated with almost the same computational effort as in the original NCA. The present scheme reproduces the scaling behavior of the …
The double exchange model with on-site Coulomb repulsion is considered. Schwinger-bosons representation of the localized spins is used and two spin-singlet Fermion operators are introduced. In terms of the new Fermi fields the on-site Hund's interaction is in a diagonal form and the true magnons of the system are identified. The singlet fermions can be understood as electrons dressed by a cloud of repeatedly emitted and reabsorbed magnons. Rewritten in terms of Schwinger-bosons and spin-singlet fermions the theory is U(1) gauge invariant. We show that spontaneous breakdown of the gauge symmetr…
In the framework of mean field approach, we study topological Mott transition in a two band model of spinless fermions on a square lattice at half filling. We consider the combined effect of the on-site Coulomb repulsion and the spin-orbit Rashba coupling. The ground state phase diagram is calculated as a function of the strength of the spin-orbit Rashba coupling and the Coulomb repulsion. The spin-orbit Rashba coupling leads to a distinct phase of matter, the topological semimetal. We study a new type of phase transition between the non-topological insulator and topological semimetal states. …
Here we present an analysis of the evolution of Majorana corner modes realizing in a higher-order topological superconductor (HOTSC) on a square lattice under the influence of local Coulomb repulsion. The HOTSC spectral properties were considered in two regimes: when the intensities of many-body interactions are either weak or strong. The weak regime was studied using the mean-field approximation with self-consistent solutions carried out both in the uniform case and taking into account of the boundary of the finite square-shaped system. It is shown that in the uniform case the topologically n…
We provide analytical and numerical solution of the two band fermion model with on-site Coulomb at half filling. In limiting cases for generate bands and one flat band, the model reduces to the Hubbard and Falicov-Kimball models, respectively. We have shown that the insulator state emerges at half filling due to hybridization of fermions of different bands with momenta k and k$+π$. Such hybridization breaks the conservation of the number of particles in each band, the Mott transition is a consequence of spontaneous symmetry breaking. A gap in the spectrum is calculated depending on the magnitu…
The boson-fermion model, describing a mixture of itinerant electrons hybridizing with tightly bound electron pairs represented as hard-core bosons, is here generalized with the inclusion of a term describing on-site Coulomb repulsion between fermions with opposite spins. Within the general framework of the Dynamical Mean-Field Theory, it is shown that around the symmetric limit of the model this interaction strongly competes with the local boson-fermion exchange mechanism, smoothly driving the system from a pseudogap phase with poor conducting properties to a metallic regime characterized by a…
We study how the Kondo effect is affected by the Coulomb interaction between conduction electrons on the basis of a simplified model. The single impurity Anderson model is extended to include the Coulomb interaction on the nearest-neighbour ligand orbital. The excitation spectra are calculated using the numerical renormalization group method. The effective bandwidth on the ligand orbital, $D^{eff}$, is defined to classify the state. This quantity decreases as the Coulomb interaction increases. In the $D^{eff} > Δ$ region, the low energy properties are described by the Kondo state, where $Δ$ is…
Recently a new phenomenological Hamiltonian was proposed to describe the superconducting cuprates in which correlations and on-site Coulomb repulsion are introduced by partial Gutzwiller projection. This Gossamer Hamiltonian has an exact ground state and differs from the t-J and Hubbard Hamiltonians in possessing a powerful attractive interaction among electrons responsible for Cooper pairing in the d-wave channel. It is a faithful description for a superconductor with strong on-site electronic repulsion. The superconducting tunneling gap remains intact and despite on-site repulsion. Near half…
We present a general method for determining screened Coulomb parameters in molecular assemblies, in particular organic molecular crystals. This allows us to calculate the interaction parameters used in a generalized Hubbard model description of correlated organic materials. In such a model only the electrons in levels close to the Fermi level are included explicitly, while the effect of all other electrons is included as a renormalization of the model parameters. For the Coulomb integrals this renormalization is mainly due to screening. For molecular materials we can split the screening into i…
We explore the possibility of a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless-like critical phase for the charge degrees of freedom in the intermediate-temperature regime between the charge-ordered and disordered phases in two-dimensional systems with competing short-range Coulomb repulsion. As the simplest example, we investigate the extended Hubbard model with on-site and nearest-neighbor Coulomb interactions on a triangular lattice at half filling in the atomic limit by using a classical Monte Carlo method, and find a critical phase, characterized by algebraic decay of the charge correlation function, be…
We discuss a reduction of superconducting transition temperature by the intersite Coulomb repulsion for the d-wave pairing in cuprates. We compare the results found for the spin-fermion model and the extended Hubbard model. We argue that in both the models the d-wave superconducting transition temperature is reduced by the Coulomb repulsion of holes in different unit cells. We also show that in the strong correlation limit the s-wave superconductivity cannot occur due to the kinematic restriction of no double occupancy in the Hubbard subbands.
We discuss the role of strong Coulomb interactions in iron-based superconductors (FeSCs). The presumed $s^{\pm}$ character of these superconductors means that the condensate is not symmetry protected against Coulomb repulsion. Remarkably, the transition temperatures and the excitation gap are quite robust across the large family of iron based superconductors, despite drastic changes in Fermi surface geometry. The Coulomb problem is to understand how these superconductors avoid the strong onsite Coulomb interaction at the iron atoms, while maintaining a robust transition temperature. Within the…
Self-organization of charged particles on a 2D lattice, subject to an anisotropic Jahn-Teller-type interaction and 3D Coulomb repulsion is investigated. In the mean-field approximation without Coulomb interaction, the system displays a phase transition of first order. In the presence of the Coulomb repulsion the global phase separation becomes unfavorable and the system shows a mesoscopic phase separation, where the size of the charged regions is determined by the competition between the ordering energy and the Coulomb energy. The phase diagram of the system as a function of particle density a…
Ultrafast lasers are an increasingly important tool to control and stabilize emergent phases in quantum materials. Among a variety of possible excitation protocols, a particularly intriguing route is the direct light-engineering of microscopic electronic parameters, such as the electron hopping and the local Coulomb repulsion (Hubbard $U$). In this work, we use time-resolved x-ray absorption spectroscopy to demonstrate the light-induced renormalization of the Hubbard $U$ in a cuprate superconductor, La$_{1.905}$Ba$_{0.095}$CuO$_4$. We show that intense femtosecond laser pulses induce a substan…
We study the interplay between spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and Coulomb repulsion in a Hubbard model on a decorated honeycomb lattice which leads to a plethora of phases. While a quantum spin hall insulator is stable at weak Coulomb repulsion and moderate SOC, a semimetallic phase emerges at large SOC in a broad range of Coulomb repulsion. This semimetallic phase has topological properties not observed in conventional metals such as a finite, non-quantized spin Hall conductivity. At large Coulomb repulsion and negligible spin-orbit coupling, electronic correlations stabilize a resonance valence b…
We investigate the zero-temperature phase diagram and spin-wave properties of a double exchange magnet with on-site Hubbard repulsion. It is shown that even within a simple Hartree -- Fock approach this interaction (which is often omitted in theoretical treatments) leads to qualitatively important effects which are highly relevant in the context of experimental data for the colossal magnetoresistance compounds. These include the asymmetry of the doping dependence of spin stiffness, and the zone-boundary ``softening'' of spin wave dispersion. Effects of Hubbard repulsion on phase separation are…
We investigate via LDA+DMFT (local density approximation combined with dynamical mean field theory) the manifestation of correlation effects in a wide range of binding energies in the hole-doped family of Fe-pnictides $A$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($A={\rm K}$, Rb, Cs) as well as the fictitious FrFe$_2$As$_2$ and $a$-axis stretched CsFe$_2$As$_2$. This choice of systems allows for a systematic analysis of the interplay of Hund's coupling $J_H$ and on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$ in multi-orbital Fe-pnictides under negative pressure. With increasing ionic size of the alkali metal, we observe a non-trivial chan…
We study superconductivity in the two-dimensional 16-band d-p model extracted from a tight-binding fit to the band structure of LaFeAsO, using the random phase approximation. When the intraorbital repulsion U is larger than the interorbital one U', an extended s-wave (s+--wave) pairing with sign reversal of order parameter is mediated by antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations, while when U<U' another kind of s-wave (s++-wave) pairing without sign reversal is mediated by ferro-orbital fluctuations. The s++-wave pairing is enhanced due to the electron-phonon coupling and then can be expanded over t…
We focus our quantitative analysis on the stability of the insulator state in the Hubbard model at a half-filling. Taking into account large-scale fluctuations (with a long relaxation time) of the on-site Coulomb repulsion, we consider the possibility of realizing a stabile state which is characterized by pairing for electrons. The pairing mechanism is as follows: due to fluctuations of on-site repulsion of electrons, holes, as excited states, are formed electron pairs. The bare values of on-site Coulomb repulsion and its fluctuations, for which the states with electron pairing are stable, are…
Recent experiments on vanadium-based nonmagnetic kagomé metals $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ ($A=$ K, Rb, Cs) revealed evidence for possible spontaneous time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking in the charge density wave (CDW) ordered state. The long-sought-after quantum order of loop currents has been suggested as a candidate for the TRS breaking state. However, a microscopic model for the emergence of the loop-current CDW due to electronic correlations is still lacking. Here, we calculate the susceptibility of the real and imaginary bond orders on the kagomé lattice near van Hove filling, and reveal the impor…
The problem of two holes in the presence of strong antiferromagnetic fluctuations is revisited using computational techniques. Two-dimensional clusters and 2-leg ladders with up to 32 sites are studied with the Lanczos and Truncated Lanczos algorithms. The main motivation is the recently discussed spatial distribution of holes in ladders where the maximum probability for the hole-hole distance is obtained at d=sqrt(2) in units of the lattice spacing, a counter-intuitive result considering that the overall symmetry of the two-hole bound state is d_{x^2 - y^2}. The existence of holes in the same…
We investigate theoretically the features of the Majorana hallmark in the presence of Coulomb repulsion between two quantum dots describing a spinless Aharonov-Bohm-like interferometer, where one of the dots is strongly coupled to a Kitaev wire within the topological phase. Such a system has been originally proposed without Coulomb interaction in J. of Appl. Phys. 116, 173701 (2014). Our findings reveal that for dots in resonance, the ratio between the strength of Coulomb repulsion and the dot-wire coupling changes the width of the Majorana zero-bias peak for both Fano regimes studied, indicat…
We have derived the interaction between Jahn-Teller centers due to optical and acoustic phonons. Without Coulomb repulsion the model leads to a global phase separation at low temperature. At long distances Coulomb repulsion always dominates the short range attraction leading to phase separation on a short scale. On the basis of Monte-Carlo simulation of microscopic lattice-gas model we have formulated an effective phenomenological model. In the limit of low density of polarons, phase separation takes place in the form of charged bubbles. In the limit of high density, charge segregation occurs …
