The ALICE muon spectrometer studies the production of quarkonia and open heavy- flavour particles. It is equipped with a Trigger System composed of Resistive Plate Chambers which, by applying a transverse-momentum-based muon selection, minimises the background from light-hadron decays. The system has been continuously taking data throughout the LHC Run I; it has undergone maintenance and consolidation operations during the LHC shutdown period 1. In the first year of the LHC Run II, the system, fully recommissioned, has participated in data taking in pp and Pb/en-dashPb collisions. The performance of the system throughout the last data-taking period is presented.

The Muon Spectrometer (MS) of the ALICE experiment at LHC is equipped with a HLT (High Level Trigger), whose aim is to improve the accuracy of the trigger cuts delivered at the L0 stage. A computational challenge of real-time event reconstruction is satisfied to achieve this software trigger cut of the HLT. After the description of the online algorithms, the performance of the online tracker is compared with that of the offline tracker using the measured pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV.
The ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) consists of a central barrel, a muon spectrometer, zero degree calorimeters and additional detectors which are used for trigger purposes and for event classification. The main detector systems of relevance for measuring diffractive and electromagnetic processes are described. The trigger strategy for such measurements is outlined. The physics potential of studying diffractive and electromagnetic processes at the LHC is presented by discussing possible signatures of the Odderon.
The ALICE experiment at the LHC is equipped with an electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal) designed to enhance its capabilities for jet measurement. In addition, the EMCal enables triggering on high energy jets. Based on the previous development made for the Photon Spectrometer (PHOS) level-0 trigger, a specific electronic upgrade was designed in order to allow fast triggering on high energy jets (level-1). This development was made possible by using the latest generation of FPGAs which can deal with the instantaneous incoming data rate of 26 Gbit/s and process it in less than 4 μs.

The High Level Trigger (HLT) of the ALICE experiment requires massive parallel computing. One of the main tasks of the HLT system is two-dimensional cluster finding on raw data of the Time Projection Chamber (TPC), which is the main data source of ALICE. A dedicated front-end electronics has been developed for the trigger chambers of the ALICE muon spectrometer which will work at the future LHC at CERN. These trigger chambers are based on RPCs (Resistive Plate Chambers) working in streamer mode. The ALICE Central Trigger Processor (CTP) is going to be upgraded for LHC Run 3 with completely new hardware and a new Trigger and Timing Control (TTC-PON) system based on a Passive Optical Network (PON) system. The new trigger system has been designed as dead time free and able to transmit trigger data at 9.6 Gbps. A new universal trigger board has been designed, where by changing the FMC card, it can function as a CTP or as a LTU. It is based on the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA and upgraded TTC-PON. ACORDE, the ALICE COsmic Ray DEtector is one of the ALICE detectors, presently under construction. It consists of an array of plastic scintillator counters placed on the three upper faces of the ALICE magnet. This array will act as Level 0 cosmic ray trigger and, together with other ALICE sub-detectors, will provide precise information on cosmic rays with primary energies around $10^{15-17}$ eV. Cross sections of reference trigger processes were obtained based on beam property measurements in dedicated luminosity calibration experiments (van der Meer scans). These cross-sections are essential for absolute cross section determinations of physics processes. The reference cross sections are presented for pp collisions at two center of mass energies; 2.76 TeV and 7 TeV, and for Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV together with a discussion of the systematic uncertainty originating from beam intensity and rate measurement uncertainties.
