Viewing Kan complexes as $\infty$-groupoids implies that pointed and connected Kan complexes are to be viewed as $\infty$-groups. A fundamental question is then: to what extent can one "do group theory" with these objects? In this paper we develop a notion of a finite $\infty$-group: an $\infty$-group with finitely many non-trivial homotopy groups which are all finite. We prove a homotopical analog of the Sylow theorems for finite $\infty$-groups. We derive two corollaries: the first is a homotopical analog of the Burnside's fixed point lemma for $p$-groups and the second is a "group-theoretic" characterization of (finite) nilpotent spaces.
We construct a differential graded algebra (DGA) modelling certain $A_\infty$ algebras associated with a finite group $G$ with cyclic Sylow subgroups, namely $H^*BG$ and $H_*ΩBG^{^\wedge}_p$. We use our construction to investigate the singularity and cosingularity categories of these algebras. We give a complete classification of the indecomposables in these categories, and describe the Auslander--Reiten quiver. The theory applies to Brauer tree algebras in arbitrary characteristic, and we end with an example in characteristic zero coming from the Hecke algebras of symmetric groups.
Let $G$ be a finite group with $2$-Sylow subgroup of order less than or equal to 16. For such a $G$, we prove a quantified version of Quillen's uniform $\mathcal{F}_p$-isomorphism theorem, which holds uniformly for all $G$-spaces. We do this by bounding from above the exponent of Borel equivariant $\mathbf{F}_2$-cohomology, as introduced by Mathew-Naumann-Noel, with respect to the family of elementary abelian 2-subgroups.
Adjoint functor theorems give necessary and sufficient conditions for a functor to admit an adjoint. In this paper we prove general adjoint functor theorems for functors between $\infty$-categories. One of our main results is an $\infty$-categorical generalization of Freyd's classical General Adjoint Functor Theorem. As an application of this result, we recover Lurie's adjoint functor theorems for presentable $\infty$-categories. We also discuss the comparison between adjunctions of $\infty$-categories and homotopy adjunctions, and give a treatment of Brown representability for $\infty$-catego…
This paper is the second in a series of two papers about generalizing Quillen's Theorem A to strict $\infty$-categories. In the first one, we presented a proof of this Theorem A of a simplicial nature, direct but somewhat ad hoc. In the current paper, we give a conceptual proof of an $\infty$-categorical nature of the same theorem. This proof is based on the theory of join and slices for strict $\infty$-categories developed by the authors in a previous paper, and on a comma construction for strict $\infty$-categories generalizing classical comma categories and Gray's comma 2-categories. This $…
We give a construction of the universal enveloping $A_\infty$ algebra of a given $L_\infty$ algebra, alternative to the already existing versions. As applications, we derive a higher homotopy algebras version of the classical Milnor-Moore theorem, proposing a new $A_\infty$ model for simply connected rational homotopy types, and uncovering a relationship between the higher order rational Whitehead products in homotopy groups and the Pontryagin-Massey products in the rational loop space homology algebra.
We prove a generalization of Quillen's Theorem B to strict $\infty$-categories. More generally, we show that under similar hypothesis as for Theorem B, the comma construction for strict $\infty$-categories, that we introduced with Maltsiniotis in a previous paper, is the homotopy pullback with respect to Thomason equivalences. We give several applications of these results, including the construction of new models for certain Eilenberg-Mac Lane spaces.
The aim of this paper is to prove a generalization of the famous Theorem A of Quillen for strict $\infty$-categories. This result is central to the homotopy theory of strict $\infty$-categories developed by the authors. The proof presented here is of a simplicial nature and uses Steiner's theory of augmented directed complexes. In a subsequent paper, we will prove the same result by purely $\infty$-categorical methods.
We provide a fairly self-contained account of the localisation and cofinality theorems for the algebraic $\mathrm{K}$-theory of stable $\infty$-categories. It is based on a general formula for the evaluation of an additive functor on a Verdier quotient closely following work of Waldhausen. We also include a new proof of the additivity theorem of $\mathrm{K}$-theory, strongly inspired by Ranicki's algebraic Thom construction, a short proof of the universality theorem of Blumberg, Gepner and Tabuada, and demonstrate that the cofinality theorem can be derived from the universal property alone.
We prove that a model structure on a relative $\infty$-category $(M,W)$ gives an efficient and computable way of accessing the hom-spaces $hom_{M[[W^{-1}]]}(x,y)$ in the localization. More precisely, we show that when the source $x \in M$ is *cofibrant* and the target $y \in M$ is *fibrant*, then this hom-space is a "quotient" of the hom-space $hom_M(x,y)$ by either of a *left homotopy relation* or a *right homotopy relation*.
We use Chen's iterated integrals to integrate representations up to homotopy. That is, we construct an A_infty functor from the representations up to homotopy of a Lie algebroid to those of its infinity groupoid. This construction extends the usual integration of representations in Lie theory. We discuss several examples including Lie algebras and Poisson manifolds. The construction is based on an A_infty version of de Rham's theorem due to Gugenheim. The integration procedure we explain here amounts to extending the construction of parallel transport for superconnections, introduced by Igusa …
In this paper, we extend the Goldman-Millson Theorem for $L_\infty$ algebras. We consider two $L_\infty$ algebras $L$ and $\tilde{L}$ endowed with descending, bounded above and complete filtrations compatible with the $L_\infty$ structures and ${U:L \rightarrow \tilde{L}}$ an $\infty$-morphism respecting the filtrations. We prove that in the setting of the linear part of $U$, say $ψ$, being a quasi-isomorphism on the r-1st page of the spectral sequences and ${H^1 ((\mathfrak{F}_{2^q} L)/(\mathfrak{F}_{\mathrm{min}(2^{q+1},r)} L))=0}$ for every $q$ with $2^q < r$ and ${H^i((\mathfrak{F}_1 \tild…
We identify the type of $\mathbb{C}[[\hbar]]$-linear structure inherent in the $\infty$-categories which arise in the theory of Deformation Quantization modules. Using this structure, we show that the $\infty$-category of quasicoherent cohomologically complete DQ-modules is a deformation of the $\infty$-category of quasicoherent sheaves. We also obtain integral representation results for DQ-modules similar to the ones of Toën and Ben-Zvi-Nadler-Francis, stating that suitably linear functors between $\infty$-categories of DQ-modules are integral transforms.
We establish a large class of homotopy coherent Morita-equivalences of Dold-Kan type relating diagrams with values in any weakly idempotent complete additive $\infty$-category; the guiding example is an $\infty$-categorical Dold-Kan correspondence between the $\infty$-categories of simplicial objects and connective coherent chain complexes. Our results generalize many known 1-categorical equivalences such as the classical Dold-Kan correspondence, Pirashvili's Dold-Kan type theorem for abelian $Γ$-groups and, more generally, the combinatorial categorical equivalences of Lack and Street.
