We evaluate $n$-particle ($n=2,3,4,5$) transverse momentum correlations for pions and kaons following from the decay of statistical clusters. These correlation functions could provide strong constraints on a possible existence of thermal clusters in the process of particle production.
Transverse momentum spectra of particles produced in high energy collisions are very important due to their relations to the excitation degree of interacting system. To describe the transverse momentum spectra, one can use more than one probability density functions of transverse momenta, which are simply called the functions or distributions of transverse momenta in some cases. In this paper, a few distributions of transverse momenta in high energy collisions are compared with each other in terms of plots to show some quantitative differences. Meanwhile, in the framework of Tsallis statistics…
Inclusive and semi-inclusive deep inelastic leptoproduction offers possibilities to study details of the quark and gluon structure of hadrons. In many of these experiments polarization is an essential ingredient. We also emphasize the dependence on transverse momenta of the quarks, which leads to azimuthal asymmetries in the produced hadrons.
The conventional NLO parton model is enough for the description of total cross sections and one-particle distributions. In the case of two-particle correlations, the collinear approximation has failed, and it is necessary to account for the transverse momenta of initial partons. The different possibilities to do this are discussed.
We discuss our recent study of the impact of collinear PDFs and their uncertainties on the determination of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distributions and the description of Drell-Yan (DY) production measurements at low transverse momenta. Using QCD factorization and evolution in transverse coordinate b space, this study takes into account for the first time flavor-dependent non-perturbative b-profiles. It illustrates that collinear PDF uncertainties and non-perturbative TMD flavor dependence are both essential to obtain reliable TMD determinations.
We discuss and compare different approaches to include gluon transverse momenta for heavy quark-antiquark pair production. The correlations in azimuthal angle and in heavy quark, heavy antiquark transverse momenta are studied in detail. The results are illustrated with the help of different unintegrated gluon distribution functons (UGDF) from the literature. We compare results obtained with on-shell and off-shell matrix elements and kinematics and quantify where these effects are negligible and where they are essential. We concentrate on the region of asymmetric transverse momenta of charm qua…
Several methods to improve the parton-shower description of hard processes by an injection of matrix-element-based information have been presented over the years. In this article we study (re)weighting schemes for the first/hardest emission. One objective is to provide a consistent matching of the POWHEG next-to-leading order generator to the Pythia shower algorithms. Another is to correct the default behaviour of these showers at large transverse momenta, based on a comparison with real-emission matrix elements.
We report recent results on the extraction of the rapidity evolution kernel for Sudakov processes from experimental measurements of Drell-Yan (DY) transverse momentum distributions. We discuss the role of high-precision Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, and illustrate the interplay of this analysis with transverse momentum dependent and collinear parton density functions.
In the present work, Monte-Carlo toy model with repulsing quark-gluon strings in hadron-hadron collisions is described. String repulsion creates transverse boosts for the string decay products, giving modifications of observables. As an example, long-range correlations between mean transverse momenta of particles in two observation windows are studied in MC toy simulation of the heavy-ion collisions.
We calculate the cross section for the inclusive production of single hadrons with finite transverse momenta in deep-inelastic scattering at next-to-leading order (NLO), i.e. through O(alpha_s^2), in the parton model of QCD endowed with non-perturbative parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs). The NLO correction is found to produce a sizeable enhancement in cross section, of up to one order of magnitude, bringing the theoretical prediction to good agreement with recent measurements for neutral pions and charged hadrons at DESY HERA. This provides a useful test fo…
Intrinsic transverse parton momenta pT play an important role in the understanding of azimuthal/spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and the Drell-Yan process (DY). We review and update what is presently known about pT from these processes. In particular, we address the question to which extent data support the popular Gauss model for the pT-distributions. We find that the Gauss model works very well, and observe that the intrinsic transverse momenta in SIDIS and DY are compatible, which is a support for the factorization approach. As a byproduct we recover a si…
We study the transverse momenta and (pseudo)rapidity spectrum of the top quark and their decay products, the tt-system, and the total number of jets in proton-proton (pp) collisions at 13 TeV by using the Tsallis-Pareto-type function and the three-source Landau hydrodynamic model, respectively. The related parameters, such as the effective temperature of the interacting system (T), the non-extensivity of the process (n) and the width ($σ$) of (pseudo)rapidity distribution are extracted.
The partonic transverse momentum, k_t distribution plays a crucial role in driving high-energy hadron interactions. If k_t is limited we have old fashioned Regge Theory. If k_t increases with energy the interaction may be described by perturbative QCD. We use BFKL diffusion in ln k_t, supplemented by a stronger absorption of low k_t partons, to estimate the growth of the mean transverse momenta <k_t> with energy. This growth reveals itself in the distribution of secondaries produced at the collider energies. We present a simple, BFKL-based, model to demonstrate the possible size of the effect.…
The creation of particles with large transverse momenta in high energy hadronic collisions is a long standing problem. The transition from small- (soft) to hard- parton scattering `high-pt' events is rather smooth. In this paper we apply the non-extensive statistical framework to calculate transverse momentum distributions of long lived hadrons created at energies from low (sqrt(s)~10 GeV) to the highest energies available in collider experiments (sqrt(s)~2000 GeV). Satisfactory agreement with the experimental data is achieved. The systematic increase of the non-extensivity parameter with ener…
The inclusive production of high-p_\perp particles (pions) in the beam fragmentation regions of high-energy hadronic collisions is driven by the breakup of valence constituents of the beam hadrons into their two-body Fock-state components, and their subsequent fragmentation. We briefly discuss an approach, that allows the consistent inclusion of intrinsic and radiatively generated transverse momenta of initial state partons, and describe an extension of our approach to nuclear targets.
Data from the Large Hadron Collider on elliptic flow correlations at low and high $p_T$ from Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$~TeV are analyzed and interpreted in the framework of the HYDJET++ model. This model allows us to describe simultaneously the region of both low and high transverse momenta and, therefore, to reproduce the experimentally observed nontrivial centrality dependence of elliptic flow correlations. The origin of the correlations between low and high-$p_T$ flow components in peripheral lead-lead collisions is traced to correlations of particles in jets.
The charged particle transverse momentum ($p_T$) spectra measured by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations in proton - proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9 and 7 TeV have been studied using Tsallis thermodynamics. A thermodynamically consistent form of the Tsallis distribution is used for fitting the transverse momentum spectra at mid-rapidity. It is found that the fits based on the proposed distribution provide an excellent description over 14 orders of magnitude with $p_T$ values up to 200 GeV/c.
We present a next-to-leading order calculation of H+jet in gluon fusion including the effect of a finite top quark mass $m_t$ at large transverse momenta. Using the recently published two-loop amplitudes in the high energy expansion and our previous setup that includes finite $m_t$ effects in a low energy expansion, we are able to obtain $m_t$-finite results for transverse momenta below 225 GeV and above 500 GeV with negligible remaining top quark mass uncertainty. The only remaining region that has to rely on the common leading order rescaling approach is the threshold region $\sqrt{\hat s}\s…
Despite large uncertainties in the $W^\pm$ and $Z^0$ transverse momentum ($q_T$) distributions for $q_T\lsim 10$ GeV, the ratio of the distributions varys little. The uncertainty in the ratio of $W$ to $Z$ $q_T$ distributions is on the order of a few percent, independent of the details of the nonperturbative parameterization.
We perform a calculation of inclusive $Z$ boson production in proton-lead collisions at the LHC taking into account the transverse momenta of the initial partons. We use the framework of $k_T$-factorization combining transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) with off-shell matrix elements. In order to do it we need to construct appropriate TMDs for lead nuclei which is done using the parton branching method. Our computations are compared with data from CMS taken at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV. The results are in good agreement with the measurements especially the transverse momentum di…
The cross section for transverse momentum dependent double parton scattering involves transverse momentum dependent double parton distributions (DTMDs). In the region of perturbative transverse momentum the DTMDs can be matched onto collinear double parton distributions. We present the framework and results for this matching, as well as the evolution equations for DTMDs in the region of large distance between the two partons. We discuss explicit results for one-loop matching coefficients and evolution kernels.
Fits to the transverse momentum distributions of charged particles produced in p - p collisions at LHC energies based on the Tsallis distribution have been shown to work over 14 orders of magnitude. Two versions of the Tsallis distribution are compared and discussed, the thermodynamically consistent version leads to a temperature of T = 74 +/- 13 MeV at the highest beam energy, a result which is in agreement with previous analyses done with lower transverse momentum data.
Charged lepton transverse momenta in the Drell-Yan processes play an important role at the LHC in precision measurements of the Standard Model parameters, such as the W-boson mass and width, their charge asymmetries and sin^2(theta_W). Therefore, their distributions should be described as accurate as possible by the Monte Carlo event generators. In this paper we discuss the problem of matching the hard-process kinematics of the Monte Carlo generator WINHAC with the parton-shower kinematics of the PYTHIA 6.4 generator while interfacing these two programs. We show that improper assignment of the…
Low transverse momentum direct photon measurements have been carried out by the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC in small collision systems (pp, $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ and 8 TeV and p--Pb, $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=5.02$ TeV) as well as in heavy-ion collisions (Pb--Pb, $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=2.76$ TeV). For the first time, also the multiplicity dependence of direct photon production was investigated in p--Pb collisions. Whereas in the small systems no significant thermal photon signal was observed, a $\sim15\%$ excess has been measured in central Pb--Pb collisions in the region of $p_{\rm T}<3$ GeV/$c$. A sig…
We study the impact of electroweak radiative corrections on direct production of photons with high transverse momenta at hadron colliders. Analytic results for the weak one-loop corrections to the parton scattering reaction $\bar q q \to γg$ and its crossed variants are presented. For the high-energy region, where the corrections are strongly enhanced by logarithms of $\hat s/M_W^2$, we derive simple asymptotic expressions which approximate the exact one-loop results with high precision. The dominant two-loop electroweak contributions are also calculated. Numerical results are presented for th…
We find supersaturation for the intrinsic gluon distribution of nuclei, i.e. the low $x$ unintegrated nuclear gluon distribution peaks at intermediate transverse momenta $k_t=Q_s$ and vanishes at zero $k_t$. Taking into account the intrinsic transverse momenta of the gluons and the saturation scale $p_s$ of the produced gluons, we calculate the minijet cross section arising from gluon gluon scattering for RHIC energies. For central collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200GeV$ the saturation scale $p_s \approx 1.4$ GeV is larger due to intrinsic $k_t$ effects and increases with energy. Our theoretical resul…
The resummed transverse momentum distribution of the Higgs boson in gluon fusion through LO+NLL for small transverse momenta is considered, where the Higgs is produced through a top- and bottom-quark loop. We study the mass effects with respect to the infinite top-mass approach. The top-mass effects are small and the heavy-top limit is valid to better than 4% as long as the Higgs' transverse momentum stays below 150 GeV. When the bottom loop is considered as well, the discrepancy reaches up to about 10%. We conclude that bottom-mass effects cannot be included in a reasonable manner by a naive …
We perform calculations of Z+jet cross-section taking into account the transverse momenta of the initial partons. Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) parton densities obtained with the Parton Branching method are used and higher order corrections are included via TMD parton showers in the initial state. The predictions are compared to measurements of forward Z+jet production of the LHCb collaboration at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. We show that the results obtained in kT-factorization are in good agreement with results obtained from a NLO calculation matched with traditional parton showers. We also demon…
LHC data on the correlations of the elliptic flow $v_2$ of particles at low and high transverse momenta $p_T$ from Pb+Pb collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV are analyzed in the framework of the HYDJET++ model. This model includes soft and hard components which allows to describe the region of both low and high transverse momenta. The origin of $v_2$ values in different $p_T$ regions is investigated at different centralities. It is shown that the experimentally observed correlations between $v_2$ at low and high $p_T$ in peripheral lead-lead collision…
In this paper, the experimental (simulated) transverse momentum spectra of negatively charged pions produced at mid-rapidity in central nucleus-nucleus collisions at the Heavy Ion Synchrotron (SIS), Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies obtained by different collaborations are selected by us to investigate, where a few simulated data are taken from the results of FOPI Collaboration who uses the IQMD transport code based on Quantum Molecular Dynamics. A two-component standard distribution and the Tsallis form of standard distribution are used to fit th…
We present a study of higher order QCD corrections beyond NLO to processes with electroweak vector bosons. We focus on the regions of high transverse momenta of commonly used differential distributions. We employ the LoopSim method, combined with NLO packages, VBFNLO and MCFM, to merge the NLO samples with different multiplicities, in order to compute the dominant part of the NNLO corrections at high pT. We find that these corrections are indeed substantial, in the 30%-100% range, for a number of experimentally relevant observables. For other observables, they lead to significant reduction of …
Light-front quantized quark and gluon states (partons) play a dominant role in high energy scattering processes. Initial state hadrons are mixed ensembles of partons, while produced pure partonic states appear as mixed ensembles of hadrons. The transition from collinear hard physics to the 3D structure including partonic transverse momenta is related to confinement which links color and spatial degrees of freedom. We outline ideas on emergent symmetries in the Standard Model and their connection to the 3D structure of hadrons. Wilson loops, including those with light-like Wilson lines such as …
In this letter we suggest the generalization of $k_T$-factorization formula for inclusive gluon production for the dense-dense parton system scattering. It turnes out that the soft gluon production with transverse momentum $p_T$ is suppressed by additional Sudakov-like factor that depends on $p^2_T/Q^2_s$ ratio in a good agreement with the first numerical calculation in Colour Glass Condensate approach by J.P. Blaizot, T. Lappi and Y. Mehtar-Tan.
It has been recently noticed that transverse momenta ($p_T$) distributions observed in high energy production processes exhibit remarkably universal scaling behavior. This is seen when they are in some suitable variable, replacing the usual $p_T$. On the other hand, it is also known that transverse momenta distributions in general follow a power-like Tsallis distribution, rather than an exponential Boltzmann-Gibbs, with a (generally energy dependent) nonextensivity parameter $q$. We now show that it is possible to choose a suitable variable such that $p_T$ distributions of particles produced i…
We discuss the production of $t\bar t$ quark-antiquark pairs in proton-proton collisions via the $γγ$ fusion mechanism. We include topologies in which both protons stay intact or one or even both of them undergo dissociation. The calculations are performed within the $k_{\rm T}$-factorisation approach, including transverse momenta of intermediate photons. Photon fluxes associated to inelastic (dissociative) processes are calculated based on modern parameterisations of proton structure functions. We find an integrated cross section of about 2.36 fb at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV for all contributions. T…
We calculate the cross section for $p p \to W^{+} W^-$ in the recently developed $k_{\rm T}$-factorisation approach, including transverse momenta of the virtual photons. We focus on processes with single and double proton dissociation. First we discuss the gap survival on the parton level as due to the emission of extra jet. Both the role of valence and sea contributions is discussed. The hadronisation of proton remnants is performed with {PYTHIA 8} string fragmentation model, assuming a simple quark-diquark model for proton. Highly excited remnant systems hadronise producing particles that ca…
Jet production at hadron colliders provides constraints on the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton, in particular on the gluon distribution. In the present paper, the impact on PDF of CMS inclusive differential jet cross sections at center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt s = 8$ TeV for jets with low momentum $p\mathrm{_T}$ and produced in the forward direction is investigated at next-to leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The results of the QCD global analysis are compared with theoretical predictions. The impact of low-$p\mathrm{_T}$ jet measurements on the det…
We discuss our recent results on azimuthal distributions in vector boson + jets and multi-jet production at the LHC, obtained from the matching of next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative matrix elements with transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton branching. We present a comparative analysis of boson-jet and jet-jet correlations in the back to-back region, and a study of the theoretical systematic uncertainties associated with the matching scale in the cases of TMD and collinear parton showers.
The parton densities of the proton are of fundamental importance not only for our description of hadronic and nuclear structure, but also for reliable predictions for new heavy particle searches at colliders. At the large partonic momentum fractions required for the production of these particles, the parton distribution functions, in particular the one of the gluon, are unfortunately still badly constrained. In this paper, we investigate the possibility to improve on their determination with new data coming from electroweak vector boson production at large transverse momenta at the LHC with ce…
We consider transverse-momentum resummation for top-quark pair production in hadron collisions. At small transverse momenta of the top-quark pair, the logarithmically-enhanced QCD contributions are resummed to all orders up to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. At intermediate and large values of transverse momenta, the resummation is consistently combined with the complete result at fixed perturbative order. We present numerical results for the transverse-momentum distribution of top-quark pairs at LHC energies. We perform a detailed study of the scale dependence of the results to estimate…
We discuss the point that the processes with high transverse momenta could have a nonperturbative origin. This discussion is motivated by the fact that there are several experimental indications that such processes can originate from soft dynamics. The model combined with unitarity and impact parameter picture provides simple mechanism for the hadron production and reproduces power like dependence of the differential cross-sections in such processes at high transverse momenta and exponential behavior at small values of p_t. This model can be used for support of the argument that the soft dynam…
The invariant cross sections for direct photon production in hadron-hadron collisions are calculated for several initial energies (SPS, ISR, S$p \bar p$S, RHIC, Tevatron, LHC) including initial parton transverse momenta within the formalism of unintegrated parton distributions (UPDF). Different approaches from the literature are compared and discussed. A special emphasis is put on the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) distributions and their extension into the soft region. Sum rules for UPDFs are formulated and discussed in detail. We find a violation of naive number sum rules for the KMR UPDFs. An i…
The dipole and the DGLAP approximations are combined with the $k_t$ factorization theorem to demonstrate the fundamental property of pQCD: smaller is the size of the colorless quark-gluon configurations in the fragmentation region, more rapid is the increase of its interaction with the target as a function of energy. First, we show that the transverse momenta of the quark(antiquark) within the $q\bar{q}$ pair, produced in the fragmentation region by the strongly virtual photon, increase with the decrease of x for fixed $Q^2$. As practical consequence of these effects we show that the cross sec…
The differential cross section for the dilepton production is calculated including Fermi motion of hadron constituents as well as emission from the ladders in the formalism of unintegrated parton distributions. We use unintegrated parton distributions which fulfil Kwieciński evolution equations. Both zeroth- and first-order (for matrix element) contributions are included. We calculate azimuthal angular correlations between charged leptons and deviations from the $p_t(l^+) = p_t(l^-)$ relation. We concentrate on the distribution in dilepton-pair transverse momentum. We find incident energy and …
The description of the hadron production at very forward rapidities and low transverse momentum is usually made using phenomenological models based on nonperturbative physics. However, at high energies and large rapidities the wave function of one of the projectiles is probed at very small Bjorken $x$, being characterized by a large number of gluons. In this kinematical regime, a new state of matter - the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) - is expected to be formed. One the main characteristics of such system is the presence of a new dynamical momentum scale, the saturation scale $Q_s$, which can a…
We discuss production of $W^+ W^-$ pairs in proton-proton collisions induced by two-photon fusion including, for a first time, transverse momenta of incoming photons. The unintegrated inelastic fluxes (related to proton dissociation) of photons are calculated based on modern parametrizations of deep inelastic structure functions in a broad range of their arguments ($x$ and $Q^2$). In our approach we can get separate contributions of different $W$ helicities states. Several one- and two-dimensional differential distributions are shown and discussed. The present results are compared to the resul…
The previously publicated analysis of transverse momentum spectra of $Λ^0$ hyperons from LHC experiments (ALICE, ATLAS, CMS)in the comparison with earlier experiments was reconsidered with correct spectra from STAR collaboration. The LHC data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 7 TeV and the data of proton-proton experiments of lower energies were fitted with the universal formula that includes the energy dependent slope as the main parameter. The dependence of average transverse momenta on $\sqrt{s}$ has been obtained with the help of this formula. The asymptotics of the energy dependence of average Pt s…
We study the transverse momentum distributions of single inclusive hadron production in ${e^ + }{e^ - }$ annihilation processes. Although the only available experimental data are scarce and quite old, we find that the fundamental features of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution, historically addressed in Drell-Yan processes and, more recently, in Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes, are visible in ${e^ + }{e^ - }$ annihilations as well. Interesting effects related to its non-perturbative regime can be observed. We test two different parameterizations for the $p_\perp$ d…
We present the construction of unintegrated double parton distribution functions which include dependence on transverse momenta of partons. We extend the formulation which was used to obtain the single unintegrated parton distributions from the standard, integrated parton distribution functions. Starting from the homogeneous part of the evolution equations for the integrated double parton distributions, we construct the unintegrated double parton distributions as the convolutions of the integrated double distributions and the splitting functions, multiplied by the Sudakov form factors. We show…
We investigate the impact of three-body forces on the transverse-momentum distribution of partons inside the proton. This is achieved by considering the three-body problem in a class of hyper-central quark potential models. Solving the corresponding Schrödinger equation, we determine the quark wave function in the proton and with appropriate transformations and projections we find the transverse-momentum distribution of a single quark. In each case the parameters of the quark potentials are adjusted in order to sufficiently describe observable properties of the proton. Using a factorization an…
In this article we discuss the measurement of spin at the LHC, in events with two unknown four-momenta. Central to this problem is the identification of spin-dependent kinematic variables and the construction of a statistical test that can distinguish between different spin hypotheses. We propose a method for reconstructing kinematic variables that depend upon the unknown momenta. The method is based upon a probabilistic reconstruction of each event, given the masses of the final and intermediate states and the cross-section of the assumed hypothesis. We demonstrate that this method can distin…
The structure of hadron-hadron correlations is investigated in proton-proton collisions. We focus on the transmission of the initial transverse momenta of partons (``intrinsic $k_T$'') to the hadron-hadron correlations. Values of the intrinsic transverse momentum obtained from experimental correlations are compared to the results of a model with partially randomized parton transverse momenta at ISR and RHIC energies. Procedures for extracting the correlations from data are discussed.
The D0 collaboration has recently introduced new variables, a_T and phi* to more accurately probe the low Q_T domain of Z boson production at hadron colliders than had been previously possible through a direct study of the Q_T distribution. The comparison of such accurate data to precise theoretical predictions from QCD perturbation theory will yield important information on the ability of resummed QCD predictions as well as parton shower models to describe the low Q_T domain and should enable more stringent constraints on non-perturbative effects. In the present paper we provide analytical pr…
The transverse mass of semi-invisibly decaying particles, calculated from the transverse momenta of their decay products, has been used in a broad range of searches and measurements at hadron colliders, such as the LHC. This variable is invariant by construction under Lorentz boosts purely in the longitudinal (beam) direction, thereby minimising sensitivity to fluctuations in the fractions of the proton momentum carried by the colliding partons. In this paper we examine, by contrast, the properties of the transverse mass under boosts with a component also in the transverse plane perpendicular …
The SIDIS transverse spin asymmetries weighted with powers of $P_T$, the hadron transverse momentum in the $γN$ reference system, have been introduced already twenty years ago and are considered quite interesting. While the amplitudes of the modulations in the azimuthal distribution of the hadrons are the ratios of convolutions over transverse momenta of the transverse--momentum dependent parton distributions and of the corresponding fragmentation functions, and can be evaluated analytically only making assumptions on the transverse--momentum dependence of these functions, the weighted asymmetr…
To match the precision of present and future measurements of Z-boson production at hadron colliders, electroweak radiative corrections must be included in the theory predictions. In this paper we consider their effect on the transverse momentum ($p_T$) distribution of Z bosons, with emphasis on large $p_T$. We evaluate, analytically and numerically, the full one-loop corrections for the parton scattering reaction $q\bar q \to Z g$ and its crossed variants. In addition we derive compact approximate expressions which are valid in the high-energy region, where the weak corrections are strongly en…
To match the precision of present and future measurements of W-boson production at hadron colliders electroweak radiative corrections must be included in the theory predictions. In this paper we consider their effect on the transverse momentum (p_T) distribution of W bosons, with emphasis on large p_T. We evaluate the full electroweak O(alpha) corrections to the processes pp -> W+jet and p\bar p -> W+jet including virtual and real photonic contributions. We present the explicit expressions in analytical form for the virtual corrections and provide results for the real corrections, discussing i…
The boundary of a boson system plays an important role in determining the momentum distribution of the bosons. For a boson system with a cylindrical boundary, the momentum distribution is enhanced at high transverse momenta but suppressed at low transverse momenta, relative to a Bose-Einstein distribution. The boundary effects on systems of massless gluons and massive pions are studied. For gluons in a quark-gluon plasma, the presence of the boundary may modify the signals for the quark-gluon plasma. For pions in a pion system in heavy-ion collisions, Coulomb final-state interactions with the …
