In the evolution of late universe, the main source of matter are Dark energy and Dark matter. They are indirectly detected only through their gravitational manifestations. So the possibility of interaction with each other without violating observational restrictions is not ruled out. With this motivation, we investigate the dynamics of DGP braneworld where source of dark energy is a scalar field and it interacts with matter source. Since observation favours phantom case more, we have also studied the dynamics of interacting phantom scalar field. In non interacting DGP braneworld there are no late time accelerated scaling attractors and hence cannot alleviate Coincidence problem. In this paper, we shall show that it is possible to get late time accelerated scaling solutions. The phase space is studied by taking two categories of potentials (Exponential and Non exponential functions). The stability of critical points are examined by taking two specific interactions. The first interaction gives late time accelerated scaling solution for phantom field only under exponential potential, while for second interaction we do not get any scaling solution. Furthermore, we have shown that this scaling solution is also classically stable.
It is demonstrated that the claim in the paper "Crossing $ω=-1$ by a single scalar field on a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane" by H Zhang and Z-H Zhu [Phys.Rev.D75,023510(2007)], about a prove that there do not exist scaling solutions in a universe with dust in a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld scenario, is incorrect.
The dynamics of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati Cosmology (DGP) braneworld with an anisotropic brane is studied. The Friedmann equations and their solutions are obtained for two branches of anisotropic DGP model. The late time behavior in DGP cosmology is examined in the presence of anisotropy which shows that universe enters a self-accelerating phase much later compared to the isotropic case. The acceleration conditions and slow-roll conditions for inflation are obtained.
We solve the Einstein equations in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model with a static, spherically symmetric matter distribution on the physical brane and obtain an exact expression for the gravitational field outside the source to the first order in the gravitational coupling. Although when confined on the physical brane this expression reproduces the correct 4D Newtonian potential for distances r_s << r << λ, where λ is a characteristic length scale of the model, it does not coincide with the standard linearized form of the 4D Schwarzschild metric. The solution reproduces the 5D Schwarzschild m…
The braneworld model of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) provides an interesting alternative to a positive cosmological constant by modifying gravity at large distances. We investigate the asymptotic behavior of homogeneous and anisotropic cosmologies on the DGP brane. It is shown that all Bianchi models except type IX isotropize, as in general relativity, if the so called $E_{μν}$ term satisfies some energy condition. Isotropization can proceed slower in DGP gravity than in general relativity.
In this letter we work out the secular precession of the spin of a gyroscope in geodesic motion around a central mass in the framework of the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati multidimensional gravity model. Such an effect, which depends on the mass of the central body and on the orbit radius of the gyroscope, contrary to the precessions of the orbital elements of the orbit of a test body, is far too small to be detected.
In this paper we examine the recently introduced Dvali Gabadadze Porrati gravity model. We use the space time metric in which the local gravitation source dominates the metric over the contributions from the cosmological flow. Anticipating ideal possible solar system effects we derive expressions for the signal time delays in the vicinity of the sun, and for various angles of the signal approach. We use the corresponding numerical value for the parameter r0 to be equal to 5 Mpc. In the vicinity of the Sun and with theta in the range -Pi/3 less than equal to theta less than equal to Pi/3, Delta…
An impressed feature of inflation on warped Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) brane is that the inflationary phase exits spontaneously for a scalar inflaton field with exponential potential, which presents a graceful exit mechanism for the inflation. But its reheating mechanism leaves open. We investigate the curvaton reheating in inflation on warped DGP brane model. The reheating may occur in effctively 5 dimensional or 4 dimensional stage. We study the permitted parameter space of the curvaton field in detail. We demonstrate how the inflation model of the warped DGP brane is improved by the curv…
We discuss an inflation model, in which the inflation is driven by a single scalar field with exponential potential on a warped DGP brane. In contrast to the power law inflation in standard model, we find that the inflationary phase can exit spontaneously without any mechanism. The running of the index of scalar perturbation spectrum can take an enough large value to match the observation data, while other parameters are in a reasonable region.
We propose a phantom crossing Dvali--Gabadadze--Porrati (DGP) model. In our model, the effective equation of state of the DGP gravity crosses the phantom divide line. We demonstrate crossing of the phantom divide does not occur within the framework of the original DGP model or the DGP model developed by Dvali and Turner. By extending their model, we construct a model that realizes crossing of the phantom divide. We find that the smaller the value of the new introduced parameter $β$ is, the older epoch crossing of the phantom divide occurs in. Our model can account for late-time acceleration of…
Recent type Ia supernovae data seem to favor a dark energy model whose equation of state $w(z)$ crosses -1, which is a much more amazing problem than the acceleration of the universe. Either the case that $w(z)$ evolves from above -1 to below -1 or the case that $w(z)$ runs from below -1 to above -1, is consistent with present data. In this paper we show that it is possible to realize the crossing behaviours of both of the two cases by only a single scalar field in frame of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworld. At the same time we prove that there does not exist scaling solution in a universe wi…
We detail the global structure of the five-dimensional bulk for the cosmological evolution of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworlds. The picture articulated here provides a framework and intuition for understanding how metric perturbations leave (and possibly reenter) the brane universe. A bulk observer sees the braneworld as a relativistically expanding bubble, viewed either from the interior (in the case of the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker phase) or the exterior (the self-accelerating phase). Shortcuts through the bulk in the first phase can lead to an apparent brane causality violation…
A number of proposals have been put forward to account for the observed accelerating expansion of the Universe through modifications of gravity. One specific scenario, Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) gravity, gives rise to a potentially observable anomaly in the solar system: all planets would exhibit a common anomalous precession, dw/dt, in excess of the prediction of General Relativity. We have used the Planetary Ephemeris Program (PEP) along with planetary radar and radio tracking data to set a constraint of |dw/dt| < 0.02 arcseconds per century on the presence of any such common precession. …
Cosmologists today are confronted with the perplexing reality that the universe is currently accelerating in its expansion. Nevertheless, the nature of the fuel that drives today's cosmic acceleration is an open and tantalizing mystery. There exists the intriguing possibility that the acceleration is not the manifestation of yet another mysterious ingredient in the cosmic gas tank (dark energy), but rather our first real lack of understanding of gravity itself, and even possibly a signal that there might exist dimensions beyond that which we can currently observe. The braneworld model of Dvali…
In addition to the pericentre ω, the mean anomaly M and, thus, the mean longitude λ, also the orbital period Pb and the mean motion $n$ of a test particle are modified by the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati gravity. While the correction to Pb depends on the mass of the central body and on the geometrical features of the orbital motion around it, the correction to $n$ is independent of them, up to terms of second order in the eccentricity $e$. The latter one amounts to about 2\times 10^-3 arcseconds per century. The present-day accuracy in determining the mean motions of the inner planets of the Solar …
An unexpected secular increase of the Astronomical Unit, the length scale of the Solar System, has recently been reported by three different research groups (Krasinsky and Brumberg, Pitjeva, Standish). The latest JPL measurements amount to 7+-2 m cy^-1. At present, there are no explanations able to accommodate such an observed phenomenon, neither in the realm of classical physics nor in the usual four-dimensional framework of the Einsteinian General Relativity. The Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworld scenario, which is a multi-dimensional model of gravity aimed to the explanation of the observe…
In this paper we explicitly work out the secular perturbations induced on all the Keplerian orbital elements of a test body to order O(e^2) in the eccentricity e by the weak-field long-range modifications of the usual Newton-Einstein gravity due to the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model. The Gauss perturbative scheme is used. It turns out that the argument of pericentre and the mean anomaly are affected by secular rates which are independent of the semimajor axis of the orbit of the test particle. The first nonvaishing eccentricity-dependent corrections are of order O(e^2). For cir…
We discuss whether or not bigravity theory can be embedded into the braneworld setup. As a candidate, we consider Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati two-brane model with the Goldberger-Wise radion stabilization. We will show that we can construct a ghost free model whose low energy spectrum is composed of a massless graviton and a massive graviton with a small mass. As is expected, the behavior of this effective theory is shown to be identical to de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley bigravity. Unfortunately, this correspondence breaks down at a relatively low energy due to the limitation of the adopted stabilization…
The multidimensional braneworld gravity model by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati was primarily put forth to explain the observed acceleration of the expansion of the Universe without resorting to dark energy. One of the most intriguing features of such a model is that it also predicts small effects on the orbital motion of test particles which could be tested in such a way that local measurements at Solar System scales would allow to get information on the global properties of the Universe. Lue and Starkman derived a secular extra-perihelion ωprecession of 5\times 10^-4 arcseconds per century, wh…
We present an holographic model of the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati scenario with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk. We concentrate on the solution that generalises the normal Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati branch. It is well known that this branch cannot describe the late-time acceleration of the universe even with the inclusion of a Gauss-Bonnet term. Here, we show that this branch in the presence of a Gauss-Bonnet curvature effect and an holographic dark energy with the Hubble scale as the infra-red cutoff can describe the late-time acceleration of the universe. It is worthwhile to stress that such an en…
In this article we study an intermediate inflationary model in the context of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) cosmology caused by a tachyon scalar field. Considering slow-roll inflation we discuss the dynamics of the Universe. Using perturbation theory, we estimate some of the model parameters numerically and compare them with the recent results from Planck satellite.
We analyze a spacetime structure on a new brane configuration constructed recently in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworld context. The brane, embedded on a five-dimensional bubble of nothing, has a wormhole structure. It is an exact solution without any matter fields, and thus the energy conditions for matter fields are trivially satisfied. We see that, under the traversability condition, the size of the bubble should be larger than 10^{10}cm or so.
We perform a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis of the self-accelerating and normal branch of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworld gravity. By adopting a parameterized post-Friedmann description of gravity, we utilize all of the cosmic microwave background data, including the largest scales, and its correlation with galaxies in addition to the geometrical constraints from supernovae distances and the Hubble constant. We find that on both branches brane tension or a cosmological constant is required at high significance with no evidence for the unique Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati modifications. The cro…
Brane and warped Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati inflationary universe models in the context of intermediate inflation are studied. In both models we consider that the energy density is a standard scalar field and we discuss the evolution of the universe during the slow-roll inflation. Also, we describe the conditions for these models. The corresponding Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe seven year data are utilized to fix some parameters in our models. Our results are compared to those found in General Relativity.
The Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane-world model provides a possible approach to address the late-time cosmic acceleration. However, it has subsequently been pointed out that a ghost instability will arise on the self-accelerating branch. Here, we carefully investigate whether this ghost problem could be possibly cured by introducing the Gauss-Bonnet term in the five-dimensional bulk action, a natural generalization to the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model. Our analysis is carried out for a background where a de Sitter brane is embedded in an anti-de Sitter bulk. Our result shows that the ghost excit…
The growth rate of matter perturbation and the expansion rate of the Universe can be used to distinguish modified gravity and dark energy models in explaining the cosmic acceleration. The growth rate is parametrized by the growth index $γ$. We discuss the dependence of $γ$ on the matter energy density $Ω$ and its current value $Ω_0$ for a more accurate approximation of the growth factor. The observational data, including the data of the growth rate, are used to fit different models. The data strongly disfavor the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model. For the dark energy model with a constant equation…
In this paper, we will present a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati stable model in order to perform an observational test using $H(z)$ data and radial BAO scale in the galaxy distribution. In this vein, we study the tension between constraints on the cosmological constant $Λ$ and the crossover scale $r_c$, which is associated with the DGP model. Our results show that observations do not favor the DGP stable model as a possible candidate to fit the observations of the late cosmic acceleration.
In this review, we summarize current understandings of black hole solutions in various braneworld models, including the Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali model, the Randall-Sundrum (RS) models, the Karch-Randall (KR) model and the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model. After illustrating basic properties of each braneworld model, we introduce the bulk/brane correspondence in the RS and KR braneworld models, adding supporting evidence for it. We then summarize the studies on braneworld black hole solutions, which consist of constructing exact or approximate solutions and investigating the phase diagram of …
We study Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworlds with finite thickness. In respect to standard (thin) DGP Friedmann equation, finite thickness of the brane causes a subtle modification of the cosmological equations that can lead to significant physical consequences. The resulting cosmology is governed by two length scales which are associated with the brane thickness and with the crossover length respectively. In this setup both early inflation and late-time acceleration of the expansion are a consequence of the 5D geometry. At early times, as well as at late times, 5D effects become dominant (gra…
In 2000, Giorgi Dvali, Gregory Gabadadze and Massimo Porrati (Dvali et al. 2000) was proposed a new braneworld model named as DGP model, having two branches with $(ε=+1)$ and $(ε=-1)$. Former one $(~ε=+1)$ known as the accelerating branch, i.e. accelerating phase of the universe can be explained without adding cosmological constant or Dark energy, whereas later one represents the decelerating branch. Here we have investigated the behavior of decelerating branch $(i.e.~ε=-1)$ of DGP model with Generalized Ghost Dark Energy (GGDE). Aim of our study to find a stable solution of the universe in DG…
DGP models can account for late-time acceleration of the universe without dark energy. Phantom Crossing DGP model is more compatible with recent observational data from Type Ia Superno…
A warm inflationary universe scenario on a warped Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane during intermediate inflation is studied. We consider a general form for the dissipative coefficient $Γ(T,ϕ)\propto T^{m}/ϕ^{m-1}$, and also study this model in the weak and strong dissipative regimes. We analyze the evolution of the universe in the slow-roll approximation, and find the exact solutions to the equations of motion. In both regimes, we utilize recent data from the BICEP2 experiment and also from the Planck satellite to constrain the parameters in our model in accordance with the theory of cosmological…
We apply the dynamical systems tools to study the (linear) cosmic dynamics of a Dirac-Born-Infeld-type field trapped in the braneworld. We focus, exclusively, in Randall-Sundrum and in Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane models. We analyze the existence and stability of asymptotic solutions for the AdS throat and the quadratic potential and a particular choice of the warp factor and of the potential for the DBI field ($f(ϕ)=1/V(ϕ)$). It is demonstrated, in particular, that in the ultra-relativistic approximation matter-scaling and scalar field-dominated solutions always arise. In the first scenario t…
It is shown by an explicit calculation that the excitations about the self-accelerating cosmological solution of the Dvali--Gabadaze--Porrati model contain a ghost mode. This raises serious doubts about viability of this solution. Our analysis reveals the similarity between the quadratic theory for the perturbations around the self-accelerating Universe and an Abelian gauge model with two Stueckelberg fields.
We analyze the weak gravity in the braneworld model proposed by Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati, in which the unperturbed background spacetime is given by five dimensional Minkowski bulk with a brane which has the induced Einstein Hilbert term. This model has a critical length scale $r_c$. Naively, we expect that the four dimensional general relativity (4D GR) is approximately recovered at the scale below $r_c$. However, the simple linear perturbation does not work in this regime. Only recently the mechanism to recover 4D GR was clarified under the restriction to spherically symmetric configurations, …
Using a covariant embedding formalism, we find the effective field equations for the Electromagnetism that emerge on branes in the context of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld scenario. Our treatment is essentially geometrical. We start with Maxwell equations in five-dimensions and project them into an arbitrary brane. The formalism is quite general and allows us to consider curved bulk spaces and curved branes whose tension is not necessarily null. The kinetic electromagnetic term induced on the world volume of the brane, proper of DGP models, is incorporated in this formulation by mea…
We solve for the behaviour of cosmological perturbations in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model using a new numerical method. Unlike some other approaches in the literature, our method uses no approximations other than linear theory and is valid on large scales. We examine the behaviour of late-universe density perturbations for both the self-accelerating and normal branches of DGP cosmology.
We consider a `brane-world scenario' recently introduced by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati, and subsequently proposed as an alternative to a cosmological constant in explaining the current acceleration of the universe. We show that, contrary to these claims, this proposal is already strongly disfavoured by the available Type Ia Supernovae, Cosmic Microwave Background and cluster data.
Warm inflationary universe models on a warped Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane are studied. General conditions required for these models to be realizable are derived and discussed. By using an effective exponential potential we develop models for constant and variable dissipation coefficient ratio $r=\fracΓ{3 H}$. We use recent astronomical observations for constraining the parameters appearing in our models.
We apply the dynamical systems tools to study the linear dynamics of a self-interacting scalar field trapped in the braneworld, for a wide variety of self-interaction potentials. We focus on Randall-Sundrum (RS) and on Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld models exclusively. These models are complementary to each other: while the RS brane produces ultra-violet (UV) corrections to general relativity, the DGP braneworld modifies Einstein's theory at large scales, i. e., produces infra-red (IR) modifications of general relativity. This study of the asymptotic properties of both braneworld mod…
The braneworld model proposed by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati leads to an accelerated universe without cosmological constant or other form of dark energy. Nevertheless, we have investigated the consequences of this model when an holo- graphic dark energy is included, taken the Hubble scale as IR cutoff. We have found that the holographic dark energy leads to an accelerated universe flat (de Sitter like expansion) for the two branch: {\ko} = \pm1 of the DGP model. Nevertheless, in universes with no null curvature the dark energy presents an EoS corresponding to a phantom fluid during the presen…
We construct traversable thin-shell wormholes in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati theory with cylindrical symmetry applying the cut and paste procedure to a flat black string solution of the five-dimensional vacuum Einstein field equations. In contrast to general relativity case, where thin-shell wormholes violate both weak and null energy conditions, we show that static wormholes are supported by normal matter while vacuum wormholes do not exist.
We construct exact solutions with the bubble of nothing in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati braneworld model. The configuration with a single brane can be constructed, unlike in the Randall-Sundrum braneworld model. The geometry on the single brane looks like the Einstein-Rosen bridge. We also discuss the junction of multibranes. Surprisingly, even without any artificial matter fields on the branes such as three-dimensional tension of the codimension-two objects, two branes can be connected in certain configurations. We investigate solutions of multibranes too. The presence of solutions may indicat…
In this talk we review the perspectives of testing the multidimensional Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) model of modified gravity in the Solar System. The inner planets, contrary to the giant gaseous ones, yield the most promising scenario for the near future.
Our numerical results can form the basis of a detailed comparison between the DGP model and cosmological observations.
We study the observational constraints on the Phantom Crossing DGP model. We demonstrate that the crossing of the phantom divide does not occur within the framework of the original Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) model or the DGP model developed by Dvali and Turner. By extending their model in the framework of an extra dimension scenario, we study a model that realizes crossing of the phantom divide. We investigate the cosmological constraints obtained from the recent observational data of Type Ia Supernovae, Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies, and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations. The best fi…
Recently it has been suggested to use the perigee of the proposed LARES/WEBER-SAT satellite in order to measure the secular precession which would be induced on such Keplerian orbital element by a weak-field modification of gravity occurring in some Brane-World scenarios put forth by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati. This precession, derived for the first time by Lue and Starkman, amounts to 4\times 10-3 milliarcseconds per year for an Earth orbiting satellite. In this paper we show that, according to the recently released EIGEN-CG01C Earth gravity model the quite larger systematic errors due to t…
We derive an analytical expression for the growth rate of matter density perturbations on the phantom brane (which is the normal branch of the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model). This model is characterized by a phantomlike effective equation of state for dark energy at the present epoch. It agrees very well with observations. We demonstrate that the traditional parametrization $f=Ω_m^γ$ with a quasiconstant growth index $γ$ is not successful in this case. Based on a power series expansion at large redshifts, we propose a different parametrization for this model: $f=Ω_m^γ\left(1+\frac{b}{\ell H}\r…
The self-accelerating universe realizes the accelerated expansion of the universe at late times by large-distance modification of general relativity without a cosmological constant. The Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model provides an explicit example of the self-accelerating universe. Recently, the DGP model becomes very popular to study the observational consequences of the modified gravity models as an alternative to dark energy models in GR. However, it has been shown that the self-accelerating universe in the DGP model contains a ghost at the linearized level. The ghost carries …
The self-accelerating branch of the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) five-dimensional braneworld has provided a compelling model for the current cosmic acceleration. Recent observations, however, have not favored it so much. We discuss the solutions which contain a de Sitter 3-brane in the cascading DGP braneworld model, which is a kind of higher-dimensional generalizations of the DGP model, where a $p$-dimensional brane is placed on a $(p+1)$-dimensional one and the $p$-brane action contains the $(p+1)$-dimensional induced scalar curvature term. In the simplest six-dimensional model, we derive th…
We study quasi-static perturbations in a cosmological background in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model. We identify the Vainshtein radius at which the non-linear interactions of the brane bending mode become important in a cosmological background. The Vainshtein radius in the early universe is much smaller than the one in the Minkowski background, but in a self-accelerating universe it is the same as the Minkowski background. Our result shows that the perturbative approach is applicable beyond the Vainshtein radius for weak gravity by taking into account the second order effect…
The braneworld model of Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) provides an intriguing modification of gravity at large distances and late times. By embedding a three-brane in an uncompactified extra dimension with separate Einstein-Hilbert terms for both brane and bulk, the DGP model allows for an accelerating universe at late times even in the absence of an explicit vacuum energy. We examine the evolution of cosmological perturbations on large scales in this theory. At late times, perturbations enter a DGP regime in which the effective value of Newton's constant increases as the background densit…
We perform a detailed comparison between the Finsler-Randers cosmological model and the Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati braneworld model. If we assume that the spatial curvature is strictly equal to zero then we prove the following interesting proposition: {\it despite the fact that the current cosmological models have a completely different geometrical origin they share exactly the same Hubble expansion}. This implies that the Finsler-Randers model is cosmologically equivalent with that of the DGP model as far as the cosmic expansion is concerned. At the perturbative level we find that the Finsl…
We characterize a class of simple FRW models filled by both dark energy and dark matter in notion of a single potential function of the scale factor $a(t)$; $t$ is the cosmological time. It is representing potential of fictitious particle - Universe moving in 1-dimensional well $V(a)$ which the positional variable mimics the evolution of the Universe. Then the class of all dark energy models (called a multiverse) can be regarded as a Banach space naturally equipment in the structure of the Sobolev metric. In this paper we explore notion of $C^{1}$ metric introduced in the multiverse which meas…
Observations exploring the contemporary cosmic acceleration have sparked interest in dark energy models possessing equations of state with w < -1. We review how the cosmic expansion history of a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model with a standard brane cosmological constant can mimic that of ordinary 4-dimensional gravity with w < -1 "phantom" dark energy for observationally relevant redshifts. We reinterpret the effective phantom nature of the dark energy as arising from dynamical-screening of the brane cosmological constant in DGP. This unusual variety of expansion history is thus…
The braneworld model of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) is a theory where gravity is modified at large distances by the arrested leakage of gravitons off our four-dimensional universe. Cosmology in this model has been shown to support both "conventional" and exotic explanations of the dark energy responsible for today's cosmic acceleration. We present new results for the gravitational field of a clustered matter source on the background of an accelerating universe in DGP braneworld gravity, and articulate how these results differ from those of general relativity. In particular, we show that orbi…
In this paper, the cosmological dynamics of a modified holographic dark energy which is derived from the UV/IR duality by considering the black hole mass in higher dimensions as UV cutoff, is investigated in Dvali-Gabadaze-Porrati (DGP) brane world model. We choose Hubble horizon and future event horizon as IR cutoff respectively. And the two branches of the DGP model are both taken into account. When Hubble horizon is considered as IR cutoff, the modified holographic dark energy (HDE) behaves like an effect dark energy that modification of gravity in pure DGP brane world model acts and it can…
We consider the classical equations of motion for a single Galileon field with generic parameters in the presence of non-relativistic sources. We introduce the concept of absolute stability of a theory: if one can show that a field at a single point---like infinity for instance---in spacetime is stable, then stability of the field over the rest of spacetime is guaranteed for any positive energy source configuration. The Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) model is stable in this manner, and previous studies of spherically symmetric solutions suggest that certain classes of the single field Galileon …
We review recent attempts to address the cosmological constant problem and the late-time acceleration of the Universe based on braneworld models. In braneworld models, the way in which the vacuum energy gravitates in the 4D spacetime is radically different from conventional 4D physics. It is possible that the vacuum energy on a brane does not curve the 4D spacetime and only affects the geometry of the extra-dimensions, offering a solution to the cosmological constant problem. We review the idea of supersymmetric large extra dimensions that could achieve this and also provide a natural candidat…
Braneworld models with induced gravity have the potential to replace dark energy as the explanation for the current accelerating expansion of the Universe. The original model of Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) demonstrated the existence of a ``self--accelerating'' branch of background solutions, but suffered from the presence of ghosts. We present a new large class of braneworld models which generalize the DGP model. Our models have negative curvature in the bulk, allow a second brane, and have general brane tensions and localized curvature terms. We exhibit three different kinds of ghosts,…
In this study, we investigate the characteristics and properties of a traversable wormhole constrained by the current astrophysical observations in the framework of modified theories of gravity (MOG). As a concrete case, we study traversable wormhole space--time configurations in the Dvali--Gabadadze--Porrati (DGP) braneworld scenario, which are supported by the effects of the gravity leakage of extra dimensions. We find that the wormhole space--time structure will open in terms of the $2σ$ confidence level when we utilize the joint constraints supernovae (SNe) Ia + observational Hubble parame…
