We report cross sections for the direct excitation of gamma-ray transitions up to 200 keV by the transient electromagnetic fields of electrons from a beam, for incident kinetic energies of 500 keV and 5 MeV. The cross sections for the electron activation of gamma-ray fluorescence are of the order of 300 nanobarns for an electron incident kinetic energy of 500 keV, and are of the order of 10 microbarns for an electron incident kinetic energy of 5 MeV. The electron excitation of nuclear transitions may lead to the development of pulsed sources of gamma radiation of narrowly defined energy.

The spectrum was validated via multi-foil activation method and irradiation of 2N2222 transistors. The hardness parameter (NIEL scaling factor) for displacement damage in bulk silicon was calculated and measured and kappa = 1.26 +- 0.1 was obtained.
Threshold activation reaction rates in 12C, 19F, 27Al, 59Co, 63Cu, 65Cu, 64Zn, 93Nb, 115In, 169Tm, 181Ta, 197Au, and 209Bi experimental samples placed along the axis inside and outside the 0.8 GeV proton-irradiated 92-cm thick W-Na and 4-cm thick W targets where measured at the ITEP proton synchrotron. 158 reactions of up to +AH4-0.5 GeV thresholds have been measured in 123 activation samples for W-Na target, and 157 reactions in 36 activation samples for W target. The reaction rates were determined using the gamma-spectrometry method. In total, more than 1000 values of activation reactions we…
Experimental excitation functions for long-lived products in proton induced reactions were measured with the activation method in the 37-65 MeV energy range on natural holmium. Stacked foil irradiation technique and high resolution gamma spectrometry were used in order to measure cross-section data for the production of $^{161}$Er, $^{160}$Er and $^{159,157}$Dy. For comparison of the production routes of medically related $^{161}$Er and $^{160}$Er radioisotopes new experimental cross section data were deduced for the $^{162}$Er(p,x)$^{161,160}$Er and $^{162}$Er(d,x)$^{161,160}$Er reactions by …
Additional experimental cross sections were deduced for the long half-life activation products (172Hf and 173Lu) from the alpha particle induced reactions on ytterbium up to 38 MeV from late, long measurements and for 175Yb, 167Tm from a re-evaluation of earlier measured spectra. The cross-sections are compared with the earlier experimental datasets and with the data based on the TALYS theoretical nuclear reaction model (available in the TENDL-2014 and 2015 libraries) and the ALICE-IPPE code.
Cross sections of the residual nuclei production in $^{129}$I, $^{237}$Np and $^{241}$Am target irradiated by proton beam with energy 660 MeV are measured by means of activation analysis with the use of HPGe detectors. The number of product nuclei identified amounts to 74 for $^{129}$I target, 53 for $^{237}$Np target and 80 for $^{241}$Am target. Theoretical model analysis employing eleven contemporary computer models of hadron-nuclear interactions is performed. Insufficient for practical purposes precision of modelling of the reactions under study is demonstrated. Methods for short-lived bet…
The $^{12}$C(n, 2n)$^{11}$C cross section was measured from just below threshold to 26.5 MeV using the Pelletron accelerator at Ohio University. Monoenergetic neutrons, produced via the $^3$H(d,n)$^4$He reaction, were allowed to strike targets of polyethylene and graphite. Activation of both targets was measured by counting positron annihilations resulting from the $β^+$ decay of $^{11}$C. Annihilation gamma rays were detected, both in coincidence and singly, using back-to-back NaI detectors. The incident neutron flux was determined indirectly via $^{1}$H(n,p) protons elastically scattered fro…
Flux-averaged cross sections for cosmogenic-neutron activation of natural tellurium were measured using a neutron beam containing neutrons of kinetic energies up to $\sim$800 MeV, and having an energy spectrum similar to that of cosmic-ray neutrons at sea-level. Analysis of the radioisotopes produced reveals that 110mAg will be a dominant contributor to the cosmogenic-activation background in experiments searching for neutrinoless double-beta decay of 130Te, such as CUORE and SNO+. An estimate of the cosmogenic-activation background in the CUORE experiment has been obtained using the results o…
