We propose a new approach to the problem of recovering signal from frame coefficients with erasures. Such problems arise naturally from applications where some of the coefficients could be corrupted or erased during the data transmission. Provided that the erasure set satisfies the minimal redundancy condition, we construct a suitable synthesizing dual frame which enables us to perfectly reconstruct the original signal without recovering the lost coefficients. Such dual frames which compensate for erasures are described from various viewpoints.
In the second part of the paper frames robust with respect to finitely many erasures are investigated. We characterize all full spark frames for finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. In particular, we show that each full spark frames is generated by a matrix whose all square submatrices are nonsingular. In addition, we provide a method for constructing totally positive matrices. Finally, we give a method, applicable to a large class of frames, for transforming general frames into Parseval ones.
Given a channel with additive noise and adversarial erasures, the task is to design a frame that allows for stable signal reconstruction from transmitted frame coefficients. To meet these specifications, we introduce numerically erasure-robust frames. We first consider a variety of constructions, including random frames, equiangular tight frames and group frames. Later, we show that arbitrarily large erasure rates necessarily induce numerical instability in signal reconstruction. We conclude with a few observations, including some implications for maximal equiangular tight frames and sparse fr…
In this paper we demonstrate that there are distinct differences between real and complex equiangular tight frames (ETFs) with regards to erasures. For example, we prove that there exist arbitrarily large non-trivial complex equiangular tight frames which are robust against three erasures, and that such frames come from a unique class of complex ETFs. In addition, we extend certain results in \cite{BP} to complex vector spaces as well as show that other results regarding real ETFs are not valid for complex ETFs.
In this paper we introduce a new probabilistic model for optimizing erasures occurring in data transmission using Parseval frames and a sequence of Bernoulli random variables associated to the channels of the transmission. We establish several results characterizing the optimal Parseval frames for our model. We show also that compared to existing models \cite{holmes2004optimal,casazza2003equal,leng2013probability,li2018frame}, our model gives better performance.
We give some new methods for perfect reconstruction from frame and sampling erasures in finitely many steps. By bridging an erasure set we mean replacing the erased Fourier coefficients of a function with respect to a frame by appropriate linear combinations of the non-erased coefficients. We prove that if a minimal redundancy condition is satisfied bridging can always be done to make the reduced error operator nilpotent of index 2 using a bridge set of indices no larger than the cardinality of the erasure set. This results in perfect reconstruction of the erased coefficients in one final matr…
Controlled frames which presented to improve the numerical output of iterative algorithms for inverting the frame operator, have been introduced by Balazs and et al. Also, these frames are used by Bogdanova and et al. for spherical wavelets. In this note, we aim to study some new results about controlled fusion frames and behavior of them under erasures. Finally, we will introduce the approximation operator for these frames and a result of the composition of the operators of two controlled fusion frames will be proved.
We consider finite frames with high redundancy so that if half the terms transmitted from the sender are randomly deleted during transmission, then on average, the receiver can still recover the signal to within a high level of accuracy. This follows from a result in random matrix theory. We also give an application of the operator Khintchine inequality in the setting of signal recovery when the signal is a matrix with a sparse representation.
Finding the optimal dual frame and optimal dual pair for signal reconstruction, which can minimize the reconstruction error when erasure occurs during data transmission, is a deep rooted problem from the perspective of frame theory. In this paper, we consider a new measurement for the error operator by taking the average of spectral radius and operator norm with probabilistic erasure. In this measurement, optimal dual frames are called Probabilistic Averaged Spectrally Optimal Dual frames, PASOD-frames in short and optimal dual pair is called PASOD-pair. The properties of the set of PASOD-fram…
We derive various interesting properties of complex equiangular cyclic frames for many pairs (n, k) using Gauss sums and number theory. We further use these results to study the random and burst errors of some special cases of complex equiangular cyclic (n, k) frames.
In this paper we study the problem of recovering a signal from frame coefficients with erasures. Suppose that erased coefficients are indexed by a finite set $E$. Starting from a frame $(x_n)_{n=1}^\infty$ and its arbitrary dual frame, we give sufficient conditions for constructing a dual frame of $(x_n)_{n\in E^c}$ so that the perfect reconstruction can be obtained from the preserved frame coefficients. The work is motivated by methods using the canonical dual frame of $(x_n)_{n=1}^\infty$, which however do not extend automatically to the case when the canonical dual is replaced with another …
Two-uniform frames and their use for the coding of vectors are the main subject of this paper. These frames are known to be optimal for handling up to two erasures, in the sense that they minimize the largest possible error when up to two frame coefficients are set to zero. Here, we consider various numerical measures for the reconstruction error associated with a frame when an arbitrary number of the frame coefficients of a vector are lost. We derive general error bounds for two-uniform frames when more than two erasures occur and apply these to concrete examples. We show that among the 227 k…
Error occurs in data transmission process when some data are missing at the time of reconstruction. Finding the best dual frame or a dual pair that minimizes the reconstruction error when erasure occurs,is a deep-rooted problem in frame theory. The main motivation behind this paper is to characterize the optimal dual under the spectral and operator norms. Here we give several equivalent conditions for which the canonical dual is an optimal dual frame for a given frame. We also go on to characterize the set of dual pairs which attains the optimal value.
In the field of compressed sensing, a key problem remains open: to explicitly construct matrices with the restricted isometry property (RIP) whose performance rivals those generated using random matrix theory. In short, RIP involves estimating the singular values of a combinatorially large number of submatrices, seemingly requiring an enormous amount of computation in even low-dimensional examples. In this paper, we consider a similar problem involving submatrix singular value estimation, namely the problem of explicitly constructing numerically erasure robust frames (NERFs). Such frames are t…
The most important purpose of this article is to investigate perfect reconstruction underlying range space of operators in finite dimensional Hilbert spaces by matrix methods. To this end, first we obtain more structures of the canonical K-dual. % and survey optimal K-dual problem under probabilistic erasures. Then, we survey the problem of recovering and robustness of signals when the erasure set satisfies the minimal redundancy condition or the K-frame is maximal robust. Furthermore, we show that the error rate is reduced under erasures if the $K$-frame is of uniform excess. Toward the prote…
The purpose of this work is to examine the structure of optimal dual fusion frames and get more exibility in the use of dual fusion frames for erasures of subspaces. We deal with optimal dual fusion frames with respect to different definitions of duality and compare the advantages of these approaches. In addition, we introduce a new concept so called partial optimal dual which involves less time and computation for detecting optimal dual for erasures in known locations. Then we study the relationship between local and global optimal duals by partial optimal duals which leads to some applicable…
