Let $La(n,P)$ be the maximum size of a family of subsets of $[n]=\{1,2,...,n\}$ not containing $P$ as a (weak) subposet. The diamond poset, denoted $B_{2}$, is defined on four elements $x,y,z,w$ with the relations $x<y,z$ and $y,z<w$. $La(n,P)$ has been studied for many posets; one of the major open problems is determining $La(n,B_{2})$.
Studying the average number of sets from a family of subsets of $[n]$ on a maximal chain in the Boolean lattice $2^{[n]}$ has been a fruitful method. We use a partitioning of the maximal chains and introduce an induction method to show that $La(n,B_{2})\leq(2.20711+o(1))\binom{n}{\left\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\right\rfloor }$, improving on the earlier bound of $(2.25+o(1))\binom{n}{\left\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\right\rfloor }$ by Kramer, Martin and Young.
For $k\geq3$, a collection of $k$ sets is said to form a \emph{weak $Δ$-system} if the intersection of any two sets from the collection has the same size. Erdős and Szemerédi asked about the size of the largest family $\mathcal{F}$ of subsets of $\{1,\dots,n\}$ that does not contain a weak $Δ$-system. In this note we improve upon the best upper bound of the author and Sawin from arXiv:1606.09575 and show that \[ |\mathcal{F}|\leq\left(\frac{2}{3}Θ(C)+o(1)\right)^{n} \] where $Θ(C)$ is the capset capacity. In particular, this shows that \[ |\mathcal{F}|\leq(1.8367\dots+o(1))^{n}. \]
This work considers the one-shot capacity of communication networks subject to adversarial noise affecting a subset of network edges. In particular, we examine previously-established upper bounds on one-shot capacity. We introduce the Diamond Network as a minimal example to show that known cut-set bounds are not sharp in general. We then give a capacity-achieving scheme for the Diamond Network that implements an adversary detection strategy. Finally, we give a sufficient condition for tightness of the Singleton Cut-Set Bound in a family of two-level networks.

We present some problems and results about variants of sunflowers in families of sets. In particular, we improve an upper bound of the first author, Körner and Monti on the maximum number of binary vectors of length $n$ so that every four of them are split into two pairs by some coordinate. We also propose a weaker version of the Erdős-Rado sunflower conjecture.
A family $\mathcal{F}$ of subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ is called a $t$-intersecting family if $|F\cap G| \geq t$ for any two members $F, G \in \mathcal{F}$ and for some positive integer $t$. If $t=1$, then we call the family $\mathcal{F}$ to be intersecting. Define the set $\mathcal{I}(\mathcal{F}) = \{F\cap G: F, G \in \mathcal{F} \text{ and } F \neq G\}$ to be the collection of all distinct intersections of $\mathcal{F}$. Frankl et al. proved an upper bound for the size of $\mathcal{I}(\mathcal{F})$ of intersecting families $\mathcal{F}$ of $k$-subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. Their theorem h…
Let $\mathcal{A}_1,\ldots,\mathcal{A}_m$ be families of $k$-subsets of an $n$-set. Suppose that one cannot choose pairwise disjoint edges from $s+1$ distinct families. Subject to this condition we investigate the maximum of $|\mathcal{A}_1|+\ldots+|\mathcal{A}_m|$. Note that the subcase $m=s+1$, $\mathcal{A}_1=\ldots=\mathcal{A}_m$ is the Erdős Matching Conjecture, one of the most important open problems in extremal set theory. We provide some upper bounds, a general conjecture and its solution for the range $n\geq 4k^2s$.
For a family $\mathcal{F}$ of subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$, let $\mathcal{D}(\mathcal{F}) = \{F\setminus G: F, G \in \mathcal{F}\}$ be the collection of all (setwise) differences of $\mathcal{F}$. The family $\mathcal{F}$ is called a $t$-intersecting family, if for some positive integer $t$ and any two members $F, G \in \mathcal{F}$ we have $|F\cap G| \geq t$. The family $\mathcal{F}$ is simply called intersecting if $t=1$. Recently, Frankl proved an upper bound on the size of $\mathcal{D}(\mathcal{F})$ for the intersecting families $\mathcal{F}$. In this note we extend the result of Frankl t…
In the first part of this paper, we prove a theorem which is the $q$-analogue of a generalized modular Ray-Chaudhuri-Wilson Theorem shown in [Alon, Babai, Suzuki, J. Combin. Theory Series A, 1991]. It is also a generalization of the main theorem in [Frankl and Graham, European J. Combin. 1985] under certain circumstances. In the second part of this paper, we prove $q$-analogues of results on a recent notion called \emph{fractional $L$-intersecting family} for families of subspaces of a given vector space. We use the above theorem to obtain a general upper bound to the cardinality of such famil…
In this paper, some main eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the politics matrix are investigated. The number of upper-class families in a society is the number of eigenvalues which are very close to 1. An algorithm to identify all the upper-class families from the right and left eigenvectors of those eigenvalues is developed.
The main goal of this paper is to investigate the minimal size of families of curves on surfaces with the following property: a family of simple closed curves $Γ$ on a surface realizes all types of pants decompositions if for any pants decomposition of the surface, there exists a homeomorphism sending it to a subset of the curves in $Γ$. The study of such universal families of curves is motivated by questions on graph embeddings, joint crossing numbers and finding an elusive center of moduli space. In the case of surfaces without punctures, we provide an exponential upper bound and a superline…
