We present a self-consistent analysis of the topological superconductivity arising from the interaction between self-ordered localized magnetic moments and electrons in one-dimensional conductors in contact with a superconductor. We show that due to a gain in entropy there exists a magnetically ordered yet non-topological phase at finite temperatures that is relevant for systems of magnetic adatom chains on a superconductor. Spin-orbit interaction is taken into account, and we show that it causes a modification of the magnetic order yet without affecting the topological properties.
The electric conductivity of Dirac electrons in the organic conductor $α$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$I$_3$ [BEDT-TTF = bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene] under pressure has been examined using a two-dimensional tight-binding (TB) model with both impurity and electron--phonon (e--p) scatterings. We study an anomalous temperature dependence of the conductivity, which shows a crossover from $σ_{x} < σ_{y}$ at low temperatures [region (I)] to $σ_{x} > σ_{y}$ at high temperatures [region (II)]. $σ_y$ and $σ_x$ are diagonal conductivities parallel and perpendicular to a stacking axis of molecules, respective…
We investigate the temperature-driven quantum-to-classical crossover in a single-electron emitter. The emitter is composed of a quantum conductor and an electrode, which is coupled via an Ohmic contact. At zero temperature, it has been shown that a single electron can be injected coherently by applying an unit-charge Lorentzian pulse on the electrode. As the electrode temperature increases, we show that the electron emission approaches a time-dependence Poisson process at long times. The Poissonian character is demonstrated from the time-resolved full counting statistics. In the meantime, we s…
This work focuses on the microstructure of metallic deposits formed by galvanostatic electrodeposition inside a Hele-Shaw cell without both supporting electrolyte and flow. For a low applied current density j, the deposit grows under the form of ramified branches. As shown by Fleury (Nature, 390,, 1997), these branches are composed of small metallic crystals. This microstructure is built up by a re-nucleation process induced by the dynamics of a space charge region (non-electrically neutral solution) ahead of the growth front. When increasing j the crystal size decreases whereas the nucleation…
Quantum and Boltzmann transport in the quasi-one-dimensional wire with rough edges
We study quantum transport in Q1D wires made of a 2D conductor of width W and length L>>W. Our aim is to compare an impurity-free wire with rough edges with a smooth wire with impurity disorder. We calculate the electron transmission through the wires by the scattering-matrix method, and we find the Landauer conductance for a large ensemble of disordered wires. We study the impurity-free wire whose edges have a roughness correlation length comparable with the Fermi wave length. The mean resistance <ρ> and inverse mean conductance 1/<g> are evaluated in dependence on L. For L -> 0 we observe th…
