We employ the so-called companion matrix method from computational algebraic geometry, tailored for zero-dimensional ideals, to study the scattering equations. The method renders the CHY-integrand of scattering amplitudes computable using simple linear algebra and is amenable to an algorithmic approach. Certain identities in the amplitudes as well as rationality of the final integrand become immediate in this formalism.
Rational coefficients of special functions in scattering amplitudes are known to simplify on singular surfaces, often diverging less strongly than the naïve expectation. To systematically study these surfaces and rational functions on them, we employ tools from algebraic geometry. We show how the divergences of a rational function constrain its numerator to belong to symbolic powers of ideals associated to the singular surfaces. To study the divergences of the coefficients, we make use of $p$-adic numbers, closely related to finite fields. These allow us to perform numerical evaluations close …
We study the scattering of particles and quasiparticles in the framework of algebraic quantum field theory. The main novelty is the construction of inclusive scattering matrix related to inclusive cross-sections. The inclusive scattering matrix can be expressed in terms of generalized Green functions by a formula similar to the LSZ formula for the conventional scattering matrix. The consideration of inclusive scattering matrix is necessary in quantum field theory if a unitary scattering matrix does not exist (if the theory does not have particle interpretation). It is always necessary if we wa…
Using geometric approach we formulate quantum theory in terms of Jordan algebras. We analyze the notion of (quasi)particle (=elementary excitation of translation-invariant stationary state) and the scattering of (quasi)particles in this framework.
The definitions of scattering matrix and inclusive scattering matrix in the framework of formulation of quantum field theory in terms of associative algebras with involution are presented. The scattering matrix is expressed in terms of Green functions on shell (LSZ formula) and the inclusive scattering matrix is expressed in terms of generalized Green functions on shell. The expression for inclusive scattering matrix can be used also for quasi-particles (for elementary excitations of any translation-invariant stationary state, for example, for elementary excitations of equilibrium state.) An i…
We obtain eigenvalue equations satisfied by various elliptic modular graphs with five links where two of the vertices are unintegrated. Solving them leads to several non--trivial algebraic identities between these graphs.
There is a remarkable connection between the boundary structure of the positive kinematic region and branch points of integrated amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. A long standing question has been precisely how algebraic branch points emerge from this picture. We use wall crossing and scattering diagrams to systematically study the boundary structure of the positive kinematic regions associated with MHV amplitudes. The notion of asymptotic chambers in the scattering diagram naturally explains the appearance of algebraic branch points. Furthermore, the scattering diagram construction al…
We relate scattering amplitudes in particle physics to maximum likelihood estimation for discrete models in algebraic statistics. The scattering potential plays the role of the log-likelihood function, and its critical points are solutions to rational function equations. We study the ML degree of low-rank tensor models in statistics, and we revisit physical theories proposed by Arkani-Hamed, Cachazo and their collaborators. Recent advances in numerical algebraic geometry are employed to compute and certify critical points. We also discuss positive models and how to compute their string amplitu…
We define inclusive scattering matrix in the framework of geometric approach to quantum field theory . We review the definitions of scattering theory in the algebraic approach and relate them to the definitions in geometric approach.
We study Feynman integrals and scattering amplitudes in ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills by exploiting the duality with null polygonal Wilson loops. Certain Feynman integrals, including one-loop and two-loop chiral pentagons, are given by Feynman diagrams of a supersymmetric Wilson loop, where one can perform loop integrations and be left with simple integrals along edges. As the main application, we compute analytically for the first time, the symbol of the generic ($n\geq 12$) double pentagon, which gives two-loop MHV amplitudes and components of NMHV amplitudes to all multiplicities. We repres…
