Multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations of excitation energies, oscillator strengths and hyperfine structure constants for low-lying levels of Sm I
The multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method was employed to calculate the total and excitation energies, oscillator strengths and hyperfine structure constants for low-lying levels of Sm I. In the first-order perturbation approximation, we systematically analyzed correlation effects from each electrons and electron pairs. It was found that the core correlations are of importance for physical quantities concerned. Based on the analysis, the important configuration state wave functions were selected to constitute atomic state wave functions. By using this computational model, our excitation energies, oscillator strengths, and hyperfine structure constants are in better agreement with experimental values than earlier theoretical works.
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) model has been employed to calculate the expectation values for the hyperfine splittings of the 5d96s2 2D3/2 and 5d96s2 2D5/2 levels of atomic gold. One-, two-, and three-body electron correlation effects involving all 79 electrons have been included in a systematic manner. The approximation employed in this study is equivalent to a Complete Active Space (CAS) approach. Calculated electric field gradients, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, allow us to extract a nuclear electric quadrupol…
We perform accurate calculations of energy levels as well as fine and hyperfine splittings of the lowest $^{1,3}\!P_J$, $^{3}\!S_1$, $^{3}\!P^e_J$, and $^{1,3}\!D_J$ excited states of the $^9$Be atom using explicitly correlated Gaussian functions and report on the breakdown of the standard hyperfine structure theory. Because of the strong hyperfine mixing, which prevents the use of common hyperfine constants, we formulate a description of the fine and hyperfine structure that is valid for an arbitrary coupling strength and may have wide applications in many other atomic systems.
We have employed the relativistic coupled cluster theory to calculate the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine constants for the ground and low lying excited states of singly ionized magnesium. Comparison with experimental and the other theoretical results are done and predictions are also made for a few low lying excited states which could be of interest. We have made comparative studies of the important many body effects contributing to the hyperfine constants for the different states of the ion.
The present work determines the precise values of magic wavelengths corresponding to the clock transitions 5$^2S$-4$^2D$ of Y$^{2+}$ ion both at the levels of fine- and hyperfine-structures due to the external light beams having linear as well as circular polarization. To calculate the dynamic polarizabilities of the associated states of the transitions, we employ the sum-over-states technique, where the dominating and correlation sensitive part of the sum is evaluated using a highly correlated relativistic coupled-cluster theory. The estimated magic wavelengths of the light beams have substan…
The relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) and the non-relativistic multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) methods have been employed to calculate the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants of zinc. The calculated electric field gradients for the $ 4s 4p \,\, ^3 \! P^o_{1} $ and $ 4s 4p \,\, ^3 \! P^o_{2} $ states, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, made it possible to extract a nuclear electric quadrupole moment $ Q(^{67}{\rm Zn}) = 0.122(10) $ b. The error bar has been evaluated in a q…
We use relativistic Hartree-Fock and correlation potential methods to calculate nuclear spin-dependent parity non-conserving amplitudes (dominated by the nuclear anapole moment) between hyperfine structure components of the ground state of odd isotopes of K, Rb, Cs, Ba+, Yb+, Tl, Fr, and Ra+. The results are to be used for interpretation of current and future measurements.
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) model has been employed to calculate the transition rates between the nine lowest levels of radium. The dominant rates were then used to evaluate the radiative lifetimes. The decay of the metastable $ 7s7p ^3 P_0 $ state through 2-photon E1M1 and hyperfine induced channels is also studied.
The hyperfine constants of the levels 2p2(3P)3s 4P_J, 2p2(3P)3p 4Po_J and 2p2(3P)3p 4Do_J, deduced by Jennerich et al. [Eur. Phys. J. D 40 (2006) 81] from the observed hyperfine structures of the transitions 2p2(3P)3s 4P_J - 2p2(3P)3p 4Po_J' and 2p2(3P)3s 4P_J - 2p2(3P)3p 4Do_J' recorded by saturation spectroscopy in the near-infrared, strongly disagree with the ab initio values of Jönsson et al. [J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 43 (2010) 115006]. We propose a new interpretation of the recorded weak spectral lines. If the latter are indeed reinterpreted as crossover signals, a new set of exper…
This work presents accurate {\it ab initio} determination of the magnetic dipole (M1) and electric quadrupole (E2) hyperfine structure constants for the ground and a few low-lying excited states in $^{67}$Zn$^{+}$, which is one of the interesting systems in fundamental physics. The coupled-cluster (CC) theory within the relativistic framework has been used here in this calculations. Long standing demands for a relativistic and highly correlated calculations like CC can be able to resolve the disagreements among the lifetime estimations reported previously for a few low-lying states of Zn$^{+}$…
We present highly correlated multi-configuration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) calculations of the hyperfine structure of the 3p5 2Po_J levels of {33}S- and {35,37}Cl. We obtain a good agreement with observation. The hyperfine structure of the neutral sulfur {33}S 3p4 3P_J lowest multiplet that has never been measured to the knowledge of the authors, is also estimated theoretically. We discuss some interesting observations made on the description of the atomic core in MCHF theory.
Multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) and multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) calculations are performed for the $2p^{5}~^{2}P^{o}$, $2p^4(^{3}P)3s~^{4}P$, $2p^4(^{3}P)3s~^{2}P$ and $2p^4(^{3}P)3p~^{4}S^o$ states of $^{19}$F~I to determine their hyperfine constants. Several computing strategies are considered to investigate electron correlation and relativistic effects. High-order correlation contributions are included in MCHF calculations based on single and double multireference (SD-MR) expansions. The largest components of the single reference MCHF wave functions are selected to …
We have produced laser-cooled Wigner crystals of 229Th3+ in a linear Paul trap. The magnetic dipole (A) and electric quadrupole (B) hyperfine constants for four low-lying electronic levels and the relative isotope shifts with respect to 232Th3+ for three low-lying optical transitions are measured. Using the hyperfine B constants in conjunction with prior atomic structure calculations, a new value of the spectroscopic nuclear electric quadrupole moment Q = 3.11(16) eb is deduced. These results are a step towards optical excitation of the low-lying isomer level in the 229Th nucleus.
The hyperfine interaction constants of the 2p4(3P)3p 2Do_{3/2,5/2}, 4Do_{1/2-7/2} and 4Po_{1/2-5/2} levels in neutral fluorine are investigated theoretically. Large-scale calculations are carried out using the multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) and Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) methods. In the framework of the MCHF approach, the relativistic effects are taken into account in the Breit-Pauli approximation using non relativistic orbitals. In the fully relativistic approach, the orbitals are optimized using the Dirac-Coulomb Hamiltonian with correlation models inspired by the non relativistic ca…
We have systematically investigated the ground-state hyperfine structure for alkali-metal atoms ^{87}Rb, ^{133}Cs, ^{211}Fr and alkali-metal-like ions ^{135}Ba^+, ^{225}Ra^+, which are of particular interest for parity violation studies. The quantum electrodynamic one-loop radiative corrections have been rigorously evaluated within an extended Furry picture employing core-Hartree and Kohn-Sham atomic potentials. Moreover, the effect of the nuclear magnetization distribution on the hyperfine structure intervals has been studied in detail and its uncertainty has been estimated. Finally, the theo…
We calculate energies and hyperfine structure constants A and B for low-lying levels of $^{173}$Yb. The latter is treated as a two-electron atom. To account for valence-valence correlations the configuration interaction method is used. Valence-core correlations are accounted for within the many-body perturbation theory which is used to construct effective two-electron operators in the valence space.
The thorium nucleus with mass number $A=229$ has attracted much interest because its extremely low lying first excited isomeric state at about $8$eV opens the possibility for the development of a nuclear clock. However, neither the exact energy of this nuclear isomer nor properties, such as nuclear magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moment are known to a high precision so far. The latter can be determined by investigating the hyperfine structure of thorium atoms or ions. Due to its electronic structure and the long lifetime of the nuclear isomeric state, Th$^{2+}$ is especially suitable f…
Atomic quadrupole moments and hyperfine constants of the metastable $^2 D_{3/2, 5/2}$ states of Ca$^+$, Sr$^+$, Ba$^+$, Yb$^+$, and Hg$^+$ are calculated by the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and relativistic configuration-interaction methods. For Hg$^+$, the configuration is $5d^9 6s^2$. For the other ions, the configuration consists of a single $d$-electron outside a set of closed shells. Current interest in the quadrupole moments of these states is due to the fact that optical transitions of these ions may be useful as references for frequency standards. Energy shifts of the metastab…
Advances in laser spectroscopy of superheavy ($Z>100$) elements enabled determination of the nuclear moments of the heaviest nuclei, which requires high-precision atomic calculations of the relevant hyperfine structure (HFS) constants. Here, we calculated the HFS constants and energy levels for a number of nobelium (Z=102) states using the hybrid approach, combining linearized coupled-cluster and configuration interaction methods. We also carried out an extensive study of the No energies using 16-electron configuration interaction method to determine the position of the (5f^{13}7s^2 6d) and (5…
To search for the temporal variation of the fundamental constants one needs to know dependence of atomic transition frequencies on these constants. We study the dependence of the hyperfine structure of atomic $s$-levels on nuclear radius and, via radius, on quark masses. An analytical formula has been derived and tested by the numerical relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations for Rb, Cd$^+$, Cs, Yb$^+$ and Hg$^+$. The results of this work allow the use of the results of past and future atomic clock experiments and quasar spectra measurements to put constrains on time variation of the quark mass…
The off-diagonal hyperfine interaction between the 6p1/2 and 6p3/2 states in 133Cs is evaluated in third-order MBPT giving 37.3 Hz and 48.3 Hz, respectively, for second-order energies of the 6p3/2 F=3 and F=4 levels. This result is a factor of 10 smaller than one obtained from an uncorrelated first-order Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculation and used in the analysis of a recent high-precision (< 2 kHz) measurement of the 6p3/2 hyperfine structure [Gerginov et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 91, 72301 (2003)]. The factor of 10 difference has negligible effect on the conclusions of the recent experiment but will …
This work is an ab initio study of the 2p3 4So_3/2, and 2Do_{3/2,5/2} states of C- and 2p2 3P_{0,1,2}, 1D_2, and 1S_0 states of neutral carbon. We use the multi-configuration Hartree-Fock approach, focusing on the accuracy of the wave function itself. We obtain all C- detachment thresholds, including correlation effects to about 0.5%. Isotope shifts and hyperfine structures are calculated. The achieved accuracy of the latter is of the order of 0.1 MHz. Intra-configuration transition probabilities are also estimated.
We consider the hyperfine structure, the atomic spectrum and the decay channels of the bound mu+ mu- system (dimuonium). The annihilation lifetimes of low-lying atomic states of the system lie in the nanosecond range range. The decay rates could be measured by detection of the decay products (high energy photons or electron-positron pairs). The hyperfine structure splitting of the dimuonic system and its decay rate are influenced by electronic vacuum polarization effects in the far time-like asymptotic region. This constitutes a previously unexplored kinematic regime. We evaluate next--to-lead…
Removal energies and hyperfine constants of the lowest four $ns, np_{1/2}$ and $np_{3/2}$ states in Na, K, Rb and Cs are calculated; removal energies of the n=7--10 states and hyperfine constants of the n=7 and 8 states in Fr are also calculated. The calculations are based on the relativistic single-double (SD) approximation in which single and double excitations of Dirac-Hartree-Fock (DHF) wave functions are included to all-orders in perturbation theory. Using SD wave functions, accurate values of removal energies, electric-dipole matrix elements and static polarizabilities are obtained, howe…
In previous work devoted to {\it ab initio} calculations of hyperfine structure constants in nitrogen and fluorine atoms, we observed sizeable relativistic effects, a priori unexpected for such light systems, that can even largely dominate over electron correlation. We observed that the atomic wave functions calculated in the Breit-Pauli approximation describe adequately the relevant atomic levels and hyperfine structures, even in cases for which a small relativistic $LS$-term mixing becomes crucial. In the present work we identify new levels belonging to the spectroscopic terms $2p^4(^3\!P) 3…
A number of bound states properties and the hyperfine structure of the 23S(L=0)-state in the Be atom are determined from the results of highly accurate computations. The energies of the hyperfine structure levels for this state are ε(F=12) = -13725.635(7) MHz, ε(F=32) = -5490.254(7) MHz and ε(F=52) = 8235.381(7) MHz, respectively. The hyperfine structure splittings are Δ12 = 8235.381(7) MHz and Δ23 = 13725.635(7) MHz, respectively. The spectrum of low-lying (bound) triplet states in the Be atom is briefly investigated.

Hyperfine structure parameters are calculated for the 2p2(3P)3s 4P_J, 2p2(3P)3p 4Po_J and 2p2(3P)3p 4Do_J levels, using the ab initio multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock method. The theoretical hyperfine coupling constants are in complete disagreement with the experimental values of Jennerich et al. (EPJD 40(2006), 81) deduced from the analysis of the near-infrared Doppler-free saturated absorption spectra.
Hyperfine constants and anomalies of ground as well as few low lying excited states of $^{113,115,117}$In III are studied with highly correlated relativistic coupled-cluster theory. The ground state hyperfine splitting of $^{115}$In III is estimated to be 106.8 GHz. A shift of almost 1.9 GHz of the above frequency has been calculated due to modified nuclear dipole moment. This splitting result shows its applicability as communication band and frequency standards at $10^{-11}$ sec. Correlations study of hyperfine constants indicates a few distinct features of many-body effects in the wave-funct…
We carried out calculations of the energies and magnetic dipole hyperfine structure constants of the low-lying states of 233U^+ and 233U using two different approaches. With six valence electrons and a very heavy core, uranium represents a major challenge for precision atomic theory even using large-scale computational resources. The first approach combines configuration interaction (CI) with a method allowing us to include core-valence correlations to all orders of the perturbation theory over residual Coulomb interaction. The second approach is a pure CI method which allows the use of differ…
We employ a technique that combines the configuration interaction method with the singles-doubles coupled-cluster method to perform calculation of the energy levels, transition amplitudes, lifetimes, g-factors, and magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants for many low-lying states of neutral actinium. We find very good agreement with existing experimental energy levels and make accurate predictions for missing levels. It has been noted that some of the levels have been previously misidentified; our analysis supports this claim. If spectroscopy is performed with act…
By combining a recent precise measurement of the ionization energy of $^{87}$Rb with previous measurements of electronic and hyperfine structure, an accurate value for the $^{85}\textrm{Rb}-^{87}\textrm{Rb}$ isotope shift of the 5$^2S_{1/2}$ ground state can be determined. In turn, comparison with additional spectroscopic data makes it possible for the first time to evaluate isotope shifts for the low-lying excited states, accurate in most cases to about 1 MHz. In a few cases, the specific mass shift contribution can be determined in addition to the total shift. This information is particularl…
Employing two state-of-the-art methods, multiconfiguration Dirac--Hartree--Fock and second-order many-body perturbation theory, highly accurate calculations are performed for the lowest 272 fine-structure levels arising from the $2s^{2} 2p^{3}$, $2s 2p^{4}$, $2p^{5}$, $2s^{2} 2p^{2} 3l$~($l=s,p,d$), $2s 2p^{3}3l$ ($l=s,p,d$), and $2p^{4} 3l$ ($l=s,p,d$) configurations in nitrogen-like Ge XXVI. Complete and consistent atomic data, including excitation energies, lifetimes, wavelengths, hyperfine structures, Landé $g_{J}$-factors, and E1, E2, M1, M2 line strengths, oscillator strengths, and trans…
Large-scale $\textit{ab initio}$ calculations of the electric field gradient, which constitutes the electronic contribution to the electric quadrupole hyperfine constant $B$, were performed for the $5s^25p6s$ $^{1,3}\!P^{\rm o}_1$ excited states of tin, using three independent computational strategies of the variational multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method and a fourth approach based on the configuration interaction Dirac-Fock-Sturm theory. For the $5s^25p6s$ $^{1}\!P^{\rm o}_1$ state, the final value of $B/Q =703(50)$ MHz/b differs by $0.4\%$ from the one recently used by Yordanov ${\…
Determination of nuclear moments for many nuclei relies on the computation of hyperfine constants, with theoretical uncertainties directly affecting the resulting uncertainties of the nuclear moments. In this work we improve the precision of such method by including for the first time an iterative solution of equations for the core triple cluster amplitudes into the relativistic coupled-cluster method, with large-scale complete basis sets. We carried out calculations of the energies and magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants for the low-lying states of 229Th^(3+)…
In the framework of the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method, we investigate the transition properties of four excited states in the $2p^53s$ configuration of neutral neon. The electron correlation effects are taken into account systematically by using the active space approach. The effect of higher-order correlation on fine structures is shown. We also study the influence of the Breit interaction and find that it reduces the oscillator strength of the $^3P^o_1 - ^1S_0$ transition by 17%. It turns out that the inclusion of the Breit interaction is essential even for such a light atomic…
The Dirac-Hartree-Fock plus many-body perturbation theory (DHF+MBPT) method has been used to calculate hyperfine structure constants for Fr. Calculated hyperfine structure anomaly for hydrogen-like ion has been shown to be in good agreement with analytical expressions. It has been shown that the ratio of the anomalies for $s$ and $p_{1/2}$ states is weakly dependent on the principal quantum number. Finally, we estimate Bohr--Weisskopf corrections for several Fr isotopes. Our results may be used to improve experimental accuracy for the nuclear $g$ factors of short-lived isotopes.
This work presents a first time accurate calculation of the magnetic dipole hyperfine structure constants for the ground state and some low-lying excited states of Pb$^+$. By comparing different levels of approximation with experimental results, we demonstrate the importance of correlation effects which reach beyond lower order relativistic many body perturbation theory. Employing relativistic coupled-cluster theory we obtain a quantitative understanding of the core-polarization and correlation effects inherent in this system and observe completely different trends compared to $Ba^+$.
Relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) calculations with configuration interaction (CI) are carried out for the $^{1}S_{0}$ and $^{3}P_{0,1}^o$ states in neutral ytterbium by use of the available GRASP2018 package. From the resultant atomic state functions and the RIS4 extension, we evaluate the mass and field shift parameters for the $^{1}S_{0}-\,^{3}P_{0}^o$ (clock) and $^{1}S_{0}-\,^{3}P_{1}^o$ (intercombination) lines. We present improved estimates of the nuclear charge parameters, $λ^{A,A'}$, and differences in mean-square charge radii, $δ\langle r^2\rangle^{A,A'}$, an…
The values of nuclear electric quadrupole moment are different by about 7% for 87Sr nucleus between the recommended value [N. J. Stone, At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 111-112, 1 (2016); P. Pyykko, Mol. Phys. 116, 1328 (2018)] and earlier results [e.g. A. M. Matensson-Pendrill, J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 35, 917 (2002); K. Z. Yu et al., Phys. Rev. A 70, 012506 (2004)]. In this work, we reported a new value, Q(87Sr) = 328(4) mb, making use of our calculated electric field gradients produced by electrons at nucleus in combination with experimental values for hyperfine structures of the 5s5p 3P1,…
This work presents accurate ab initio determination of the hyperfine splitting for the ground state and few low-lying excited states of 113Cd+; important candidates for the frequency standard in the microwave region, using coupled-cluster theory (CC) in the relativistic framework. The calculated hyperfine splitting are well in agreement with recent experimental results. We have also carried out the lifetimes of the 5p2P1=2 and 5p2P3=2 states, which are in well agreement with recent experimental result (Moehring et al., PRA 73 023413, 2006). The roles of different electron correlation effects i…
By combining our theoretical calculation and recently measured electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constant of the $3d ^2D_{5/2}$ state in the singly ionized $^{43}$Ca, we determine its nuclear quadrupole moment to one percent accuracy. The obtained result, $-0.0444(6)b$, is about ten percent improvement over the considered standard value. We have employed the relativistic coupled-cluster theory at single and double excitations level to calculate the electronic wave functions. The accuracy of these wave functions are estimated by comparing our calculated magnetic dipole hyperfine constants…
Neutral uranium (U I) is a very difficult atom for theoretical calculations due to a large number of valence electrons, six, strong valence-valence and valence-core correlations, high density of states, and relativistic effects. Configuration-interaction many-body perturbation theory (CI-MBPT) can treat efficiently valence-core correlations and relativistic effects, but because the formalism was developed for Dirac-Hartree-Fock (DHF) starting potential that does not contain valence electrons, quite large CI space is needed to compensate for +6 charge of such a potential. Much more efficient is…
We have investigated energies, magnetic dipole hyperfine structure constants ($A_{hyf}$) and electric dipole (E1) matrix elements of a number of low-lying states of the triply ionized tin (Sn$^{3+}$) by employing relativistic coupled-cluster theory. Contributions from the Breit interaction and lower-order quantum electrodynamics (QED) effects in determination of above quantities are also given explicitly. These higher-order relativistic effects are found to be important for accurate evaluation of energies, while QED contributions are seen to be contributing significantly to the determination o…
Hyperfine structures of $^{211}$Fr due to the interactions of magnetic dipole ($μ$), electric quadrupole ($Q$) and magnetic octupole ($Ω$) moments with the electrons are investigated using the relativistic coupled-cluster (RCC) theory with an approximation of singles, doubles and important valence triples excitations in the perturbative approach. Validity of our calculations are substantiated by comparing the results with their available experimental values. Its $Q$ value has also been elevated by combining the measured hyperfine structure constant of the $7p \ ^2P_{3/2}$ state with our improv…
We have performed high-resolution two-photon dark-state spectroscopy of an ultracold gas of Rb molecules in the triplet ground state at a magnetic field of about 1000 G. The vibrational ladder as well as the hyperfine and low-lying rotational structure is mapped out. Energy shifts in the spectrum are observed due to singlet-triplet mixing at binding energies as deep as a few hundred GHz x h. This information together with data from other sources is used to optimize the potentials of the triplet and singlet states in a coupled-channel model. We find that the hyperfine structure depends weakly o…
Energy levels of 30 low-lying states of Lu2+ and allowed electric-dipole matrix elements between these states are evaluated using a relativistic all-order method in which all single, double and partial triple excitations of Dirac-Fock wave functions are included to all orders of perturbation theory. Matrix elements are critically evaluated for their accuracy and recommended values of the matrix elements are given together with uncertainty estimates. Line strengths, transition rates and lifetimes of the metastable 5d(3/2) and 5d(5/2) states are calculated. Recommended values are given for stati…
We investigate the hyperfine energy levels and Zeeman splittings for homonuclear alkali-metal dimers in low-lying rotational and vibrational states, which are important for experiments designed to produce quantum gases of deeply bound molecules. We carry out density-functional theory (DFT) calculations of the nuclear hyperfine coupling constants. For nonrotating states, the zero-field splittings are determined almost entirely by the scalar nuclear spin-spin coupling constant. By contrast with the heteronuclear case, the total nuclear spin remains a good quantum number in a magnetic field. We a…
High precision spectroscopy of the low-lying dielectronic resonances in fluorine-like nickel ions were determined by employing the merged electron-ion beam at the heavy-ion storage ring CSRm. The measured dielectronic resonances are identified by comparing with the most recent relativistic calculation utilizing the FAC code. The first resonance at about 86 meV due to the dielectronic recombination via (2s2p6[2S1/2]6s)J=1 intermediate state was recognized. The experimental determination of the resonance position at 86 meV reaches an uncertainty of 4 meV, which allows precise determination of th…
We perform high resolution spectroscopy on $^{176}$Lu$^+$ including the $^1S_0\leftrightarrow{^3}D_1$ and $^1S_0\leftrightarrow{^3}D_2$ clock transitions. Hyperfine structures and optical frequencies relative to the $^1S_0$ ground state of four low lying excited states are given to a few tens of kHz resolution. This covers the most relevant transitions involved in clock operation with this isotope. Additionally, measurements of the $^3D_2$ hyperfine structure may provide access to higher order nuclear moments, specifically the magnetic octupole and electric hexadecapole moments.
The low-lying n(=3,4,5)d $^2D_{5/2}$ states alkaline earth ions are of vital importance in a number of different physical applications. The hyperfine structure constants of these states are characterized by unusually strong electron correlation effects. Relativistic coupled-cluster theory has been employed to carry out {\it ab initio} calculations of these constants. The role of the all order core-polarization effects was found to be decisive in obtaining good agreement of the results of our calculations with accurate measurements. The present work is an apt demonstration of the power of the c…
Collisions of metastable antiprotonic helium atoms with atoms of the medium induce, among other processes, transitions between hyperfine structure (HFS) states, as well as shifts and broadening of microwave M1 spectral lines. In order to obtain matrix potential of interaction between $(\mathrm{\bar{p} He} ^+)$ and $\mathrm{He}$, we have calculated the potential energy surface (PES) in the framework of unrestricted Hartree-Fock method taking into account electron correlations in the second-order perturbation theory (MP2). With this potential, the system of close-coupling equations for HFS chann…
