A class of dynamical dark energy models is constructed through an extended version of fermion fields corresponding to phantom dark ghost spinors, which are spin one half with mass dimension one. We find that if these spinors interact with torsion fields in a homogeneous and isotropic universe, then it does not imply any future dark energy singularity or any abrupt event, though the fermion has a negative kinetic energy. In fact, the equation of state of this dark energy model will asymptotically approach the value $w=-1$ from above without crossing the phantom divide and inducing therefore a de Sitter state. Consequently, we expect the model to be stable because no real phantom fields will be created. At late time, the torsion fields will vanish as the corresponding phantom dark ghost spinors dilute. As would be expected, intuitively, this result is unaffected by the presence of cold dark matter although the proof is not as straightforward as in general relativity.
We present a novel dark energy candidate, based upon the existence and dynamics of Ghost D-branes in a warped compactification of type IIB string theory. Gp-branes cancel the combined BPS sectors of the Dp-branes, while they preserve the same supersymmetries. We show that this scenario can naturally lead to either quintessence or phantom-like behaviors, depending on the form of the involved potentials and brane tension.
The Nine-Year WMAP results combined with other cosmological data seem to indicate an enhanced favor for the phantom regime, comparing to previous analyses. This behavior, unless reversed by future observational data, suggests to consider the phantom regime more thoroughly. In this work we provide three modified gravitational scenarios in which we obtain the phantom realization without the appearance of ghosts degrees of freedom, which plague the naive approaches on the subject, namely the Brans-Dicke type gravity, the scalar-Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, and the $F(R)$ gravity, which are more…
Ghost neutrinos in radiative Kerr spacetime endowed with totally skew-symmetric Cartan contortion is presented. The computations are made by using the Newman-Penrose (NP) calculus. The model discussed here maybe useful in several astrophysical applications specially in black hole astrophysics.
The possible process of creation/annihilation of traversable wormholes in the model with phantom (ghost) scalar field is described. It is shown that such process can be realized only for some special choice of a potential energy, in particular, for the Sine-Gordon potential.
It is proved that no wormholes can be formed in viable scalar-tensor models of dark energy admitting its phantom-like ($w < -1$) behaviour in cosmology, even in the presence of electric or magnetic fields, if the non-minimal coupling function $f(Φ)$ is everywhere positive and the scalar field $Φ$ itself is not a ghost. Some special static, spherically symmetric wormhole solutions may exist if $f(Φ)$ is allowed to reach zero or to become negative, so that the effective gravitational constant becomes negative in some region making the graviton a ghost. If $f$ remains non-negative, such solutions…
We obtain a family of regular static, spherically symmetric solutions in Einstein--Cartan theory with an electromagnetic field and a nonminimally coupled scalar field with the correct sign of kinetic energy density. At different values of its parameters, the solution, being asemptotically flat at large values of the radial coordinate, describes (i) twice asemptotically flat symmetric wormholes, (ii) asymmetric wormholes with an AdS asymptotic at the "far end", (iii) regular black holes with an extremal horizon or two simple horizons, and (iv) black universes with a de Sitter asymptotic at the …
We discuss the cosmological consequences of a model based on a non-local infrared modification of Einstein equations. We find that the model generates a dynamical dark energy that can account for the presently observed value of $Ω_{\rm DE}$, without introducing a cosmological constant. Tuning a free mass parameter $m$ to a value $m\simeq 0.67 H_0$ we reproduce the observed value $Ω_{\rm DE}\simeq 0.68$. This leaves us with no free parameter and we then get a pure prediction for the EOS parameter of dark energy. Writing $w_{\rm DE}(a)=w_0+(1-a) w_a$, we find $w_0\simeq-1.04$ and $w_a\simeq -0.0…
We review a dynamical dark energy model scarcely studied in the literature and we introduce two possible generalizations. We discuss separately the behavior of the original model and a minimal extension of it by exploring some early and late times limits, we find that the cosmic components are related by their parameters state. In order to have access to the phantom regime we present two dark energy densities inspired from the holographic approach and from the emergent entropic forces model in the early universe. For the first case we obtain a Type III singularity and in the second proposal we…
In this work, we reconstruct the $f(R)$ modified gravity for different ghost and generalized ghost dark energy models in FRW flat universe, which describe the accelerated expansion of the universe. The equation of state of reconstructed $f(R)$ - gravity has been calculated. We show that the corresponding $f(R)$ gravity of ghost dark energy model can behave like phantom or quintessence. We also show that the equation of state of reconstructed $f(R)$ gravity for generalized ghost model can transit from quintessence regime to the phantom regime as indicated by recent observations.
We consider the ghost-condensate model of dark energy with a generic potential term. The inclusion of the potential is shown to give greater freedom in realising the phantom regime. The self-consistency of the analysis is demonstrated using WMAP7+BAO+Hubble data.
It is concluded in the literature that Ellis wormhole is unstable under small perturbations and would decay either to the Schwarzschild black hole or expand away to infinity. While this deterministic conclusion of instability is correct, we show that the Ellis wormhole reduces to Schwarzschild black hole \textit{only} when the Ellis solution parameter $γ$ assumes a complex value $-i$. We shall then reexamine stability of Ellis and phantom wormholes from the viewpoint of local and asymptotic observers by using a completely different approach, viz., we adapt Tangherlini's nondeterministic, prequ…

The 6D braneworld with the phantom-like bulk scalar field is considered. We demonstrate pure gravitational localization of scalar field zero modes on the brane.
A black universe is a nonsingular black hole where, beyond the horizon, there is an expanding, asymptotically isotropic universe. Such models have been previously found as solutions of general relativity with a phantom scalar field as a source of gravity and, without phantoms, in a brane world of RS2 type. Here we construct examples of static, spherically symmetric black-universe solutions in general relativity with a minimally coupled scalar field ϕwhose kinetic energy is negative in a restricted strong-field region of space-time and positive outside it. Thus in such configurations a "ghost" …
We explore a dark energy model with a ghost scalar field in the context of the runaway dilaton scenario in low-energy effective string theory. We address the problem of vacuum stability by implementing higher-order derivative terms and show that a cosmologically viable model of ``phantomized'' dark energy can be constructed without violating the stability of quantum fluctuations. We also analytically derive the condition under which cosmological scaling solutions exist starting from a general Lagrangian including the phantom type scalar field. We apply this method to the case where the dilaton…
In a ghost-condensate model of dark energy the combined dynamics of the scalar field and gravitation is shown to impose non-trivial restriction on the self-interaction of the scalar field. Using this restriction we show that the choice of a zero self-interaction leads to a situation too restrictive for the general evolution of the universe. This restriction, obtained in the form of a quadratic equation of the scalar potential, is demonstrated to admit real solutions. Also, in the appropriate limit it reproduces the potential in the phantom cosmology.
Three static models with two interacting phantom and ghost scalar fields were considered: a model of a traversable wormhole, a brane-like model and a spherically symmetric problem. It was shown numerically that regular solutions exist for all three cases.
We investigate the generalized Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) ghost model of dark energy in the framework of Einstein gravity. First, we study the non-interacting generalized ghost dark energy in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) background. We obtain the equation of state parameter, $w_D=p/ρ$, the deceleration parameter, and the evolution equation of the generalized ghost dark energy. We find that, in this case, $w_D$ cannot cross the phantom line ($w_D>-1$) and eventually the universe approaches a de-Sitter phase of expansion $(w_D\rightarrow-1)$. Then, we extend the study to the interac…
We show that a scalar field without a kinetic term in the Lagrangian density, coupled to the covariant divergence of the torsion vector in the Einstein$-$Cartan theory of gravity, becomes kinetic in its general-relativistic equivalent formulation. The resulting kinetic term is negative: such a scalar field could be a source of phantom dark energy.
Cosmological scaling solutions are particularly important in solving the coincidence problem of dark energy. We derive the equations of sub-Hubble linear matter perturbations for a general scalar-field Lagrangian--including quintessence, tachyon, dilatonic ghost condensate and k-essence--and solve them analytically for scaling solutions. We find that matter perturbations are always damped if a phantom field is coupled to dark matter and identify the cases in which the gravitational potential is constant. This provides an interesting possibility to place stringent observational constraints on s…
We derive an exact wormhole spacetime supported by a phantom scalar field in the context of $f({\sf R})$ gravity. Without specifying the form of the $f({\sf R})$ function, the scalar field self-interacts with a mass term potential that is derived from the scalar equation and the resulting $f({\sf R})$ model is purely supported by the scalar field and it is free of ghosts and avoids the tachyonic instability.
The proposal of pilgrim dark energy is based on the speculation that phantom-like dark energy possesses enough resistive force to preclude the black hole formation in the later universe. We explore this phenomenon by assuming the generalized ghost version of pilgrim dark energy. We find that most of the values of the interacting ($ξ^2$) as well as pilgrim dark energy ($u$) parameters push the equation of state parameter towards phantom region. The squared speed of sound shows that this model remains stable in most of the cases of $ξ^2$ and $u$. We also develop $ω_Λ-ω'_Λ$ plane and observe that…
We construct explicit examples of globally regular static, spherically symmetric solutions in general relativity with scalar and electromagnetic fields, describing traversable wormholes with flat and AdS asymptotics and regular black holes, in particular, black universes. (A black universe is a regular black hole with an expanding, asymptotically isotropic space-time beyond the horizon.) Such objects exist in the presence of scalar fields with negative kinetic energy ("phantoms", or "ghosts"), which are not observed under usual physical conditions. To account for that, we consider what we call…
We perform a detailed analysis on the dynamics of a Chiral-like cosmological model where the scalar fields can have negative kinetic terms. In particular, we study the asymptotic dynamics for the gravitational field equations for four different models in a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space. When one of the scalar fields is phantom, we calculated that the cosmological fluid can evolves such that the parameter for the equation of state crosses twice the phantom divide line without the appearance of ghosts. Moreover, the cosmological viability of these four …
Bimetric gravity theories allow for many different types of cosmological solutions, but not all of them are theoretically allowed. In this work we discuss the conditions to satisfy the Higuchi bound and to avoid gradient instabilities in the scalar sector at the linear level. We find that in expanding universes the ratio of the scale factors of the reference and observable metric has to increase at all times. This automatically implies a ghost-free helicity-2 and helicity-0 sector and enforces a phantom dark energy. Furthermore, the condition for the absence of gradient instabilities in the sc…
We investigate de Sitter solutions in non-local gravity as well as in non-local gravity with Lagrange constraint multiplier. We examine a condition to avoid a ghost and discuss a screening scenario for a cosmological constant in de Sitter solutions. Furthermore, we explicitly demonstrate that three types of the finite-time future singularities can occur in non-local gravity and explore their properties. In addition, we evaluate the effective equation of state for the universe and show that the late-time accelerating universe may be effectively the quintessence, cosmological constant or phantom…
We construct explicit examples of globally regular static, spherically symmetric solutions in general relativity with scalar and electromagnetic fields describing traversable wormholes with flat and AdS asymptotics and regular black holes, in particular, black universes. (A black universe is a regular black hole with an expanding, asymptotically isotropic space-time beyond the horizon.) The existence of such objects requires invoking scalars with negative kinetic energy ("phantoms", or "ghosts"), which are not observed under usual physical conditions. To account for that, the so-called "trappe…
In the simplest Higgs phase of gravity called ghost condensation, an accelerating universe with a phantom era (w<-1) can be realized without ghost or any other instabilities. In this paper we show how to reconstruct the potential in the Higgs sector Lagrangian from a given cosmological history (H(t), ρ(t)). This in principle allows us to constrain the potential by geometrical information of the universe such as supernova distance-redshift relation. We also derive the evolution equation for cosmological perturbations in the Higgs phase of gravity by employing a systematic low energy expansion. …
We investigate the correspondence between the ghost and Chaplygin scalar field dark energy models in the framework of Einstein gravity. We consider a spatially non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting dark energy with dark matter. We reconstruct the potential and the dynamics for the Chaplygin scalar field model according to the evolutionary behavior of the ghost dark energy which can describe the phantomic accelerated expansion of the universe.
Phantom fields with negative kinetic energy are often plagued by the vacuum quantum instability in the ultraviolet region. We present a Lorentz-violating dark energy model free from this problem and show that the crossing of the cosmological constant boundary w=-1 to the phantom equation of state is realized before reaching a de Sitter attractor. Another interesting feature is a peculiar time-dependence of the effective Newton's constant; the magnitude of this effect is naturally small but may be close to experimental limits. We also derive momentum scales of instabilities at which tachyons or…
We reconstruct $f(R,T)$ theory (where $R$ is the scalar curvature and $T$ is the trace of energy-momentum tensor) in the framework of QCD ghost dark energy models. In this study, we concentrate on particular models of $f(R,T)$ gravity which permits the standard continuity equation in this theory. It is found that reconstructed function can represent phantom and quintessence regimes of the universe in the background of flat FRW universe. In addition, we explore the stability of ghost $f(R,T)$ models.
Regarding the Veneziano ghost of QCD and its generalized form, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe filled by a pressureless matter and a dark energy component interacting with each other through a mutual sign-changeable interaction of positive coupling constant. Our study shows that, at the late time, for the deceleration parameter we have $q\rightarrow-1$, while the equation of state parameter of the interacting ghost dark energy (GDE) does not cross the phantom line, namely $ω_D\geq-1$. We also extend our study to the generalized ghost dark energy (GGDE) model and show th…
Exterior Differential Systems (EDS) and Cartan forms, set in the state space of field variables taken together with four space-time variables, are formulated for classical gauge theories of Maxwell and SU(2) Yang-Mills fields minimally coupled to Dirac spinor multiplets. Cartan character tables are calculated, showing whether the EDS, and so the Euler-Lagrange partial differential equations, is well-posed. The first theory, with 22 dimensional state space (10 Maxwell field and potential components and 8 components of a Dirac field), anticipates QED. In the second, non-Abelian, case (30 Yang-Mi…
Exploring the accelerated expansion of the universe, we investigate the generalized ghost dark energy (GGDE) model from the statefinder diagnosis analysis in a flat FRW universe. First we calculate the cosmological evolution and statefinder trajectories for non-interacting case and then extend this work by considering the interaction between dark matter and dark energy components. We show that in the non-interacting case the phantom line can not be crossed and also he evolutionary trajectories of model in $s-r$ plane can not be discriminated. It has been shown that the present location of mode…

It was argued that the vacuum energy of the Veneziano ghost field of QCD, in a time-dependent background, can be written in the general form, $H + O(H^2)$, where $H$ is the Hubble parameter. Based on this, a phenomenological dark energy model whose energy density is of the form $ρ=αH+βH^{2}$ was recently proposed to explain the dark energy dominated universe. In this paper, we investigate this generalized ghost dark energy model in the setup of Brans-Dicke cosmology. We study the cosmological implications of this model. In particular, we obtain the equation of state and the deceleration parame…
Observations exploring the contemporary cosmic acceleration have sparked interest in dark energy models possessing equations of state with w < -1. We review how the cosmic expansion history of a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model with a standard brane cosmological constant can mimic that of ordinary 4-dimensional gravity with w < -1 "phantom" dark energy for observationally relevant redshifts. We reinterpret the effective phantom nature of the dark energy as arising from dynamical-screening of the brane cosmological constant in DGP. This unusual variety of expansion history is thus…
In this paper, we investigate the cosmological consequences of ghost dark energy model in modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We construct ghost dark energy $f(G)$ model by using correspondence scenario for both interacting and non-interacting schemes. For this purpose, we consider the FRW universe with pressureless matter and power-law scale factor. We examine the behavior of the equation of state parameter and check the stability of ghost dark energy model through the squared speed of sound parameter. We also analyze the behavior of phase planes like $ω_{eff}-ω'_{eff}$ and $r-s$ graphically. It i…
Ever since the first observations that we are living in an accelerating universe, it has been asked what dark energy is. There are various explanations all of which with have various draw backs or inconsistencies. Here we show that using a dark spinor field it is possible to have an equation of state that crosses the phantom divide, becoming a dark phantom spinor which evolves into dark energy. This type of equation of state has been mildly favored by experimental data, however, in the past there were hardly any candidate theories that satisfied this crossing without creating ghosts or causing…
We provide a general framework for studying the evolution of background and cosmological perturbations in the presence of a vector field $A_μ$ coupled to cold dark matter (CDM). We consider an interacting Lagrangian of the form $Q f(X) T_c$, where $Q$ is a coupling constant, $f$ is an arbitrary function of $X=-A_μA^μ/2$, and $T_c$ is a trace of the CDM energy-momentum tensor. The matter coupling affects the no-ghost condition and sound speed of linear scalar perturbations deep inside the sound horizon, while those of tensor and vector perturbations are not subject to modifications. The existen…
This work is based on pilgrim dark energy conjecture which states that phantom-like dark energy possesses the enough resistive force to preclude the formation of black hole. The non-flat geometry is considered which contains the interacting generalized ghost pilgrim dark energy with cold dark matter. Some well-known cosmological parameters (evolution parameter ($ω_Λ$) and squared speed of sound) and planes ($ω_Λ$-$ω_Λ'$ and statefinder) are constructed in this scenario. The discussion of these parameters is totally done through pilgrim dark energy parameter ($u$) and interacting parameter ($d^…
We introduce a large class of scalar-tensor models with interactions containing the second derivatives of the scalar field but not leading to additional degrees of freedom. These models exhibit peculiar features, such as an essential mixing of scalar and tensor kinetic terms, which we have named kinetic braiding. This braiding causes the scalar stress tensor to deviate from the perfect-fluid form. Cosmology in these models possesses a rich phenomenology, even in the limit where the scalar is an exact Goldstone boson. Generically, there are attractor solutions where the scalar monitors the beha…
It has been known for some time that General Relativity can be regarded as a Yang-Mills-type gauge theory in a symmetry broken phase. In this picture the gravity sector is described by an $SO(1,4)$ or $SO(2,3)$ gauge field $A^{a}_{\phantom{a}bμ}$ and Higgs field $V^{a}$ which acts to break the symmetry down to that of the Lorentz group $SO(1,3)$. This symmetry breaking mirrors that of electroweak theory. However, a notable difference is that while the Higgs field $Φ$ of electroweak theory is taken as a genuine dynamical field satisfying a Klein-Gordon equation, the gauge independent norm $V^2\…
The non-singular model of the Universe i.e. emergent scenario is now very well known in cosmology. In Einstein gravity such type of singularity free solution is possible in the context of non-equilibrium thermodynamical prescription (both in first and 2nd order theory) with particle creation mechanism. Also there are various models of emergent scenario in different gravity theories. The present work is a twofold attempt namely (i) it has been examined whether it is possible to have singularity free solution in Hořava-Lifshitz modified gravity theory, (ii) if such singularity free solution exis…
